Now that we have returned from our recent holiday at the Grand Muthu Imperial, I want to express our gratitude for the hospitality and professionalism of all the staff at this fabulous resort. If you are looking at a place to relax and be pampered, then this is the place.
There are some of the staff that went above and beyond to make our holiday very enjoyable.
At the Snack Bar we were always met by Yulliet and Laimy with a smile and the best Spanish coffee in Cuba.
Aimee, Maury, Osvel and G[... read more]uillermo from Buffet that provided us with a comfortable setting.
Siomara our housekeeper in block 9, she would always provide an surprise in our room, love the art work.
Jeny from the pool bar, she would always provide us with a special drink that was know to us as the Jeny Special.
Yadi from Sports bar, she is always very entertaining to watch as she made the most elaborate drinks.
Carlos, Pino, Higteandro, Maceo Yanet, Grether,Asiel, Lince, Yoendry and Fatima from Lobby bar, they have bar tender traits that made our late nights a party atmosphere.
We cannot forget the gardeners and cleaners who keep the grounds and hotel look amazing.
Food and Beverage Managers Joan and Jean.
Thank you for always checking in to make sure everything was okay. Yordanis from Marketing and Adriana and Jorge from Customer Service.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Relaxing spot
3rd trip to Cuba, and 1st at Gran Muthu Imperial. Hotel is beautiful, grounds are lovely. Spent most time at the pools, but beaches were great. Travelled with my husband and 2 other couples who were returning guests at the Imperial. Covid had some affect on the variety of food but there was always lots to eat. As usual the Cuban people were the hit of the trip and the staff here were great. Starting with our rooms in building 9, Rosy and Siomara kept everything spotless and we were entertai[... read more]ned by the most fabulous “towel†art. We started our mornings with coffees/drinks in the snack bar where service from Yulliet, Laimy, and the others was great each day. Always helpful at the front desk were Rachel, Ismary and Yoenny, and Adriana and Jorge from Customer Service. Our dining was made better by the staff in the buffets Aimee, Laura, Maury, Osvel and Guillermo. Food and Beverage Managers Joan and Jean checked in regularly to see if we needed anything. Also Yordanis from Marketing, was always making sure we were happy. We had great service from Jeny and William at the pool bar. And in the evenings we made a regular stop at the sports bar to enjoy the daiquiris that Yadi makes. And we cannot forget the staff at the lobby bar Higteandro, Carlos, Pino, Maceo Yanet, Grether, Asiel, Lince, Yoendry and Fatima. And while we didn’t get their names there were the gardeners and cleaners that kept everything looking nice.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Wonderful resort
Our vacation was wonderful - the resort was very well kept. The staff were AMAZING, kind, friendly, helpful and just very genuine. There was no shortage of anything... food and drinks were abundant. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable (except the pillows, bring your own if you can). The Lobby is great social gathering place in the evening - go watch a show and have a few drinks on the house! The pool and surrounding area was very well kept. It was cleaned daily and the staff were alwa[... read more]ys out tidying and ensuring it was up to par. The beach are is very nice - it gets a little rocky when you go too far left or right from the entrance, but if you stay central to enter, you are golden. Overall - nothing at all to complain about!! We even made some new friends. We will be back for sure!

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Not bad.
Been here a few times, staff are great. Some small detail care like paint, caulking, mirrors without rust would go a long way to make it really nice. Our AC didn’t work, told them a few times and it never got fixed. Food has gotten better over time, drinks are good. There was no cola but that is t a resort issue it is in shortage in Cuba. Better lighting along walkways is needed for heading back to your room. But overall a decent place to spend a week.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Good times
Best cuban resort so far!
Beats all the many 3-4* Varadero hotels I've visited.
Beach is second to none
Rooms are very good
Resort is clean and friendly
Service is adequate
Food is typical cuba, but more limited options
Bug bites for some, but most had none.
I will definitely return, and go to Lenny's for $25 lobster more often...

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Cuba is Cuba
This being our third time there, the last 3 years ago pre covid we weren't expecting a lot. The grounds are well maintained. Being the rainy season everywhere was very green. Lots of bugs at the beach. People calling them sand fleas. I am not a bug expert but was bitten more than a hundred times the first week at the beach. My skin did not react but my wife really suffered. We were there for 2 weeks and after the first she just wanted to come home. Luckily we had Reactine & Benadryl whic[... read more]h helped her. The second week we adjusted our schedule and would only go to the beach to go in the water and then back to the pool. The pool area was very well maintained and clean. We kept away from the bushes and zero problems. We also kept in the windiest areas areas to put the chances of bugs on our side. We paid for an upgrade to a suite and really enjoyed it. The bathroom was redone and the main area was 2 levels with lots of room. The A/C worked perfectly with a large TV that pivoted from bed to sofa. As there are just 4 units in the suites we had zero problems with noise. The personnel were in general very friendly and helpful. Money! Don't change your money into Cuban pesos. They don't want it. Give regular tips in loonies & toonies. Still no good, because the Cuban banks don't accept them. But... Take 5,10,20 bills and change them for loonies and toonies to carry on giving tips. With the bills they can go to their bank and change it for US$. The US$ is then put on a debit card and then they can go buy things. With the abolishment of the CUC the US$ is now essentially the currency of the country. The resort workers who have access to us are the rich of the country. I asked a barman if I were a teacher in Cuba how much would I make in US$. He said about 30$. Per day I said. He laughed at my ignorance. No per month. The average Cuban is really suffering under inflation which has hit them hard. By comparison the resort workers are paid about 8-10 US$ per month. Because they have access to us. So essentially slave labour but they thay want the jobs because of us. As well Cayo Coco being an island all the workers go back and forth every day. Access is controlled by the military. Every bus of workers is taxed on its way out of the island. But enough is left for the barmen and waitresses to be the nouveau riche of Cuba. Food. So all this background to come to food. So no hamburgers at the snack bar for the 2 weeks we were there. No coffee for 3 days. Crisis for my wife but I drink tea so... No wine for 12 days and the last 2 they had but not drinkable. No Sprite/7 Up for drinks at all. No juice for drinks. A few days Gin but no tonic. Cuban lemonade syrup or powdered Pina Coladas with Vodka or Rum but the Vodka is pretty horrible. And beer but we are not beer drinkers. The buffet is essentially the movie Groundhog Day if you have ever seen it. The one exception being one day I smelt BBQ. Followed my nose and my wife and I each got a rib. Last 2 of the resort. 1 rib each. Checked around with other travelers and that was it. First come first served and everybody got 1 rib. Not a question of do you want a full or 1/2 rack. Went to the Asian restaurant one evening. Rolled up rice they called sushi and pork with mystery sauce same as in the buffet. But at least it was quieter. Funny/pathetic situation. They have sittings at 6 7 8 o'clock. We were at 6. Lots of empty seats. Client comes by and sees empty tables. Wants to come in and eat. Oh no. Have to have a reservation. He was upset. So as my title suggests Cuba is Cuba. I never go for the food or drinks. I am the cook of the house here and have never seen such a lack of effort with making things good. They have great potential with their lean meat but it needs to be simmered to soften it up. Anyway if you go to Cuba go for the sun and the beach. Even that isn't a guarantee. Perhaps in a year things will be better. We have been there 25 times and this was by far the worst. I am just sorry for the Cuban people. A place with so much potential!

Melia Costa Rey: Good but….
The resort looked really nice, everything was really pretty but when you got to the room there were stains on the sheets as well as the couch in our room. We were also without running water for 2 days. You couldn’t flush or have a shower and customer service at the hotel would just give you a 2L bottle of water to use. The pools for 2 days as well were dirty, you could see green algae all over the pools.

The resort was beautiful, grounds, restaurants, pools and decor. The staff were amazing they were very pleasant and always willing to help with any issues. And that's where the good review ends. This resort has been closed since 2020. It opened November 7th we arrived November 8th. We were shocked. If we had known this and we should have been informed we would never have booked. This resort has over 500 rooms which equals to over 1000 guests. There were only 60 people there. Because of the sm[... read more]all # very little was available. Closed restaurants, very little entertainment and a huge lack of food. I have been to cuba before and new not to expect the food to be very good, but this was horrible. We were so hungry and couldn't even get any snacks, nothing! The beach was not very nice. Couldn't go there until the afternoon because the workers had to rake seaweed away. Then we got eaten alive by sand fleas.
I am not a picky traveler but will never go back to this resort. I hope it improves because as I said it is a beautiful resort.

Melia Costa Rey: Not a bad resort
We were scheduled to leave on Sunday November 6th until Sunday November13th with OWG.
There was a flight change that we were notified about with the time and we paid for our seats but when we arrived for our departure our seats were not what we paid for and we were not sitting together.
OWG staff were very professional about this but there was nothing they could do.
Arrival at the resort was smooth and check in was a breeze.
Now the resort, the lobby, main bar and coffee bar are all [... read more]in the same open area which would not be a problem, but when everyone is mingling in the area there is not enough seating.
With the lobby, main bar and coffee bar being on the "main" level, you are never without having to walk up and down plenty of stairs, could be a problem if you have mobility issues.
There 2 elevators in this area, 1 has not worked in many years and is boarded up. The other one did not work at all.
The resort is bland in color, not like the other resorts in Cuba have stayed in. Pullman definitely needs to be updated with color.
We were in block 24 with an ocean view which was nice but, it could have been nicer.
In the different blocks there are only stairs so if you have mobility issues you would need a ground floor room as there are plenty of stairs.
The room itself was clean without any problems.
The buffet was just that, your regular Cuban buffet, you will not starve.
We had 3 ala carte restaurants booked for us with the Cuban being first. It was fine, not great, but again it is Cuban food.
2nd was the Italian, very good in our opinion.
3rd was the French and it was great.
The grounds themselves as well as the rest of the resort were kept clean.
The beach was wonderful and it was the perfect time of the year to be swimming. It was rather windy so we did not utilize our snorkeling this time around.
Although the beach is the most beautiful in Cayo Coco and the staff is always so friendly and ready to help the best they can, they have so very little ressources available, especially now with all the shortages of goods of all types. They run out of food and drinks everyday and if things break, they try to fix them the best they can with what they have. The buildings desperately need a fresh coat of pain as mold shows everywhere and doors and furnitures in restaurants and at buffet are all so[... read more] dirty (black marks) and would really need to be deep-cleaned. Many air conditioning systems were poorly functionning... The plandemic has had a devastating impact on Cuba and it is not going to get better soon, unfortunately for them. Melia Cayo Coco: A good experience
We were pleased with our experience at this resort and no concerns from the perspective of COVID-19 protocols. There were a couple initial supply chain issues likely due to the pandemic and recent hurricane but they didn’t last and we were well taken care of, especially compared to other folks at other resorts.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful Resort
Text: Another wonderful vacation with our friends at the Gran Muthu Imperial.
Being our third time at this resort the staff, once again did not disappoint. We were welcomed back with open arms (literally) and for the whole week we enjoyed seeing the hard working staff of this resort, it is so wonderful to see how dedicated and humble these people are, it truly makes us want to stay longer each and every time we visit. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: It was better
It was our 3rd time in this resort and not the best one. Sometimes pool get very dirty, so hotel closes it. Many kids had ear infections. The staff were wonderful as usual. But the quality and variety of food is terrible. We had 2 rooms connected, in both there were problems with toilets. The door in one room didn't work.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful resort!
It was a very beautiful resort and since this was my first time so don’t really have anything to compare with, but I loved every minute of my trip. Amazing drinks (very colorful) and nice view, nice swimming pools and great staff. Just too many mites is bed they so tiny you can barely see them. As a vegetarian don’t have much options to eat but fruits, fries and grilled sandwiches were alright! Overall I had great time.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Excell Commitment Ceremony
With the latest Regulatory requirements, weddings at the resorts have become commitment ceremonies. Especially Canadian / Cuban. We had our commitment ceremony on Nov 5, 2022, on the beach at Hotel Playa Paraiso and a formal, legal marriage ceremony in the city of Moron. The staff at the Hotel outdid themselves to ensure that our special time was fabulous. from the ceremony at the beach to the following recception/dinner they made our time very special.
