Grand Sirenis Tropical Suites: We had a wonderful time
The staff were very friendly and tried to help whenever they could even though they couldn't understand English very well. The pool was amazing and my 3 kids ages 8,5 and 2 spent most of their time there. For some reason there was a lot of seaweed while we were there but the locals said they had never seen that much before. The hotel worked hard to clear what was on the beach continuasly.
We had the best weather, beautiful everyday... And when it did rain it was only a shower and then the sun wo[... read more]uld return. Even saw a rainbow.
The food was good .. Always found something to eat and the deserts were plentiful .
Drinks were always good and the beer was nice and light , perfect for the hot weather.
The banana mama was yummy.
We stayed in a sweet cause there was five of us and I thought it was pretty and it accommodated us just fine. Only downside is the beds are hard. Can't beat the view though.
Plus who really wants to sleep too long anyways while on vacation ;)
We did the dolphin excursion with the kids and although we had a lot of fun I was very disappointed that it was all about taking pictures and smiling and posing for their camera. And then come to find out the pictures they were selling were $40 US a peice . Or the package was over $200 for just 3 of us who interacted with the dolphins.
My husband was allowed to take pictures but he was pretty far away so they didn't turn out very well. Be prepared to bring a great camera with a telephoto lense or pay. $$ for the pictures you want.
The water park at this resort is amazing .. Something for all ages, my kids myself and my husband had a blast. You can also get food and beer at the water park .. But it's not too much of a walk if you want to go back to the resort buffet.
We had a great family vacation and I would recommend this resort traveling with a young family . Your kids will love it and that will make your vacation that much better.
They also have activities for the kids like ice cream party and popcorn party.

Riu Palace Macao: Great location but avoid Sunwing at all costs!!
The food was hot, excellent favors and the selection was fantastic. We had both red and black caviar, lobster, crab, smoked salmon, a selection of fish dishes, beef dishes, lamb, duck, chicken, pasta, roast turkey, roast beef, roast pork, roast chicken, multiple salads, pizzas, multiple vegetable dishes, exotic fruit, multiple deserts including a chocolate fountain. The list of food types and variations goes on and on... Cleanliness was clearly evident as staff members continually run around mak[... read more]ing everything look perfect. The rooms were clean, bright, cool, and no musty smell whatsoever. Every staff member was very pleasant and eager to accommodate all our wants. There is even a pool waiter bringing you drinks as you lounge in the sun around the "clean" pool. The ocean and beach was both warm and clean with plenty of loungers, umbrellas, palm trees, and space whether you wanted full sun, shade or anything in-between. The white sand on the beach which stretched from the pool to the ocean (over 200 feet) was free of buts and finer than sugar. No, there is no slide at the pool, no mini golf, and no giant chess board, as this is an "adults only" resort. On the other end of the scale, this is also not the Ritz where you "must have" designer clothing. Those who are looking for those types of atmospheres may not appreciate this place and should go elsewhere. To end, both my wife and I had a great time at the Macao and look forward to our return if, "and only if", we can get there without flying Sunwing as there inability to maintain a schedule resulted in a total delay time of 30 hours, 16hr on the way there and 12 on the way back....I can say that I now know both airports like the back of my hand...

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Overall, a very pleasant 2 weeks
Well kept grounds, exceptionally well kept pool. Wide selection of foods, nicely presented in the specialty restaurants. Breakfast & lunch buffets presented a challenge, if you like your food hot, get your eggs cooked to order. Sea was as advertised, murky. Beach was clean & no shortage of loungers. Room was large & well appointed. The first week housekeeper needed a nudge now & then about towels & restocking the fridge, different housekeeper the second week, completely on the ball. Staff at all[... read more] levels were cheerful & helpful, especially the senior management. Downside for us was the isolation, we like to take a Gua gua or motoconcho into the villages & poke around. Did not seem possible. If you are looking for pure R&R this would be a very good choice.
I stayed at the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana over Christmas and had a fantastic time. I have been to the DR several times and travel to all inclusive resorts at least twice a year.
This was my first solo vacation but I had no issue meeting people or relaxing by myself. I have also never been away for the holidays and I must say the hotel did a fantastic job of bringing Christmas to its guests. We had a visit from Santa via power boat followed by a huge celebration on the beach, stockings (with [... read more]candy inside) were left in all our rooms, Christmas carols playing and a grand piano player in the piano bar each evening which was a great touch. The rooms were very clean; I was on the ground floor with a pool view and private sitting area and outdoor Jacuzzi which I loved. Only downside was that the foot traffic in the morning and few rowdy people passing by late at night or early in the morning was a bit disturbing. If you are a light sleeper, I would opt for a higher level room. If that is not a problem definitely go with the ground floor pool view, well worth the extra money. Food was decent; breakfast buffet was by far the best and should NOT be missed. Staff were incredible!!!!! The beach is nice, some rough water which is fun if you don't mind being tossed around a bit. Seaweed is a bit of an issue as it comes ashore in large amounts and I assume is hard to stay on top of. Having said that the water is gorgeous, sunsets are amazing and you can walk the beach for hours checking out other hotels in the area.
Cons: Beach towels are worn and must be replaced (you can ask the towel service guy for a new one they have boxes but choose to keep the older ones in circulation). Also, only one towel per guest is issued which I think is silly. My toilet leaked all over the floor twice during my stay (just clean water) and my shower roof dripped on me while I was showering. Colonial Club upgrade didn’t seem to be worth the $.
If those are all my complaints, and I really had to think of something to say, I would say not too bad at all. I would highly recommend this resort!!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Nice Resort, staff very friendly
My family and I enjoyed our stay at this resort, the food was good, the staff were friendly and helpful as well. The only thing that wasn't great was the amount of stairs there were, however if you waited for a shutle bus to take you to where you wanted to go on this resort it was worth the few minute wait. I would not recommend this resort to people who have trouble walking, people with strollers or older people due to the stairs, other than that the resort was terrific, no complaints. TRS Turquesa: Disappointing
We went to the Royal Turquesa the first week of January/15. We have been to Punta Cana twice previously and enjoyed but thought we would try something new. That was a mistake. This appears to be an older resort although the room we had was recently renovated and was nice. There was strong sewer smell outside our room and around one of the bar areas , although we saw work crews doing something with this 3-4 days into our stay. The food not very good and we understand many guests had the same comp[... read more]laint. In fact, my husband picked up something from the food on day 2 and was sick the balance of the week. There was little food on the resort itself, all dining establishments were in other parts of the larger resort, so if you are not mobile this is not the place for you. We saw very few Canadians at this resort, almost all Russian and German guests. Two positives - the Butler service was excellent (try and get Ramces if you go) and the weather was great!

Vista Sol Punta Cana: Great family-friendly resort
This was our 6th visit to the D.R. and our first stay at Vista Sol. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the staff is always busy making sure the pool deck is clean too. While we have stayed at friendlier locations, we didn't experience anything negative from the locals. It is heavily attended by Russians, who don't like to wait their turn for anything; hence constantly budding in lines, whether it be at the bar or the buffet. And while most considerate people would move to a single lane w[... read more]hen passing people along paths, this group of people make you walk off the paths to pass them - even though you're going in opposite directions.
If you are a smoker, you will fit right in. We aren't smokers and regrettably, there was no consideration to those who appreciate breathing clean Carribbean air.
There are signs posted indicating no reserving of loungers at the pool, however that didn't stop people from laying their towels down and then not showing up to use their spots until long after 3pm. Because of the trees, you have to be strategic with shifting your chair of you want sun exposure. For the most part, we didn't use the beach much because the winds were so high during this trip.
Despite some of the comments above, I would still recommend this resort. We wanted a clean room - we got it. We wanted a good variety of foods - we got it. There was always a different roasted meat offered daily. We wanted a pool with swim up bar - we got it, although the bartenders were only tending from the top level.
This is a good family-friendly value resort.

Occidental Punta Cana: Some not great things, but a fun trip!
There are some really good things about this resort and some quite bad. Our group was quite large with 11 people.
PROS
- The resort grounds are very nice. They keep it very clean and well manicured.
- Service is awesome. Most times I never had to get up to get a drink.
- The Resort entertainment is some of the best I've seen. There is something different every night and the talent is quite good.
- Most of the time we didn't have trouble finding chairs for our entire group
- Beach is awesome. I [... read more]usually don't spend a lot of time in the ocean but at this resort I spent every day there.
- Pools are very nice - multiple there - some quiet for families, and a party one with a swim up bar
- Mexican al la Carte was awesome. Oriental was okay. Others were not great.
- 24/7 available food
- The disco just off the resort called Mangu is amazing..awesome music and we had so much fun there.
- Very family friendly
CONS
- Rooms are just awful. Many people on the resort complained. I knew this going in from other reviews so I didn't expect much going in
- The safes are old school. You actually have to carry a key around with you and if you lose it, you have to pay $75 to get it "smashed" open. Just ridiculous. It's also not included with your room. I think it was $25.
- Other than the Mexican restaurant and the 24/7 pizza oven, the food was not good. I tried many different dishes, however there's nothing I could rave about.
- The people selling stuff on the beach gets kind of annoying, they are constantly bugging you.
Besides all that, I did really enjoy myself. I think the people you are with really make a trip and the cons certainly didn't keep us down!

There are many great features of this resort. The layout is functional and easy to get around,. You get a great view of the grounds and the pool area when you come off the main lobby. Bars are conviently located thorughout the resort for easy access. The pool deck is huge! I loved the pool area. There are a lot of activities and music that occur around the pool. There is a publi casino and disco a short distance away and it is safe to walk off the resort. I lovd tthe gym that was located at the front of the resort. It had wall to wall windows air conditioning, it was clean and modern! A big plus!

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Great location
The rooms were clean; the food was delicious and plentiful; the service was awesome; the location a half hour from the Punta Cana airport. The rooms, dining, and swimming were close by the ocean which was handy. The room was a bit dark -- they could have used a few lamps. Bring your own amenities -- the rooms are basic.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Relaxing experience
Overall very nice time, food was good, beach was nice and the pool always seemed clean. No swim up bar, but there was one really close to the pool. No problems with our room, but we did find that the washrooms through out the resort were not always clean.
