Loved the beaches, the resort and Varadero in general.
excellent staff, food was decent...very scenic.
live music was amazing and throughout the day.
activities: beach volleyball a highlight
main pool and swim up bar closed for maintenance
beds - not too comfortable - only complaint - but most of the time spent at the beach - so not a big concern

Melia Internacional: Location and value are great!
Melia overall was a great experience. It has an amazing beach with a ton of chairs. The pool was decent but 2 of the 4 days there was a strong sewage like smell across the pool which made it next to impossible to be in.
The food wasn't as bad as what I've heard other resorts in Cuba can be. The BBQ spot on the right side of the resort has great fresh meats.
The resort is brand new and you can tell that they have really tried to go "modern" I would be interested to see if they can keep up[... read more] how new it looks in a few years. Overall the staff and entertainment were good for a family resort.

Hotel Vigia: Worst I experienced in Cuba
The resort is really old or appears so. Small. Service almost non existent. No plates, glasses, no variety of food. All the same. Waiters would not offer water or bring it when you ask them. Snack bar would run out of ingredients all the time. Could not even get a burger or hot dog. Bars would run out of red wine every day. Toilets didn't flush. Air conditioner was leaking leaving a puddle on the floor. Staff would not bring water to rooms. No clean towels unless you ask them. Same for toilet pa[... read more]per. Didn't sweep room or change sheets. Entertainment was poor. No variety, no daily live shows. Only had 2 shows in a week. Restaurant was closed for 4 days. When tried to book, the staff gave us confusing messages. As a result even when we tried to reserve it, they did not have us on their list.

Melia Varadero: Would recommend
The hotel was maintained beautifully, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and while Cuba is not known for their food I found this much better than my other trips. Also the beach is incredible.

Melia Las Americas: Amazing Adults Only Resort
Amazing adults only resort. Even though they were completely full didn’t feel like it. Always could find a lounger at the beach. Food was great. Always could find something we enjoyed. We had an amazing corner suite with ocean view. The lobby bar was the best place for drinks. The beach was beautiful!!

Paradisus Varadero: Worse resort/vacation ever
Paradisus Varadero:
The worst vacation in 30 years. The resort is sub standard, in every way. The rooms look super cheap, terrible workmanship, etc, etc. Service is way below average. The workers (most, not all) look completely disinterested. Food is sub par, at best.
No, it gets worse. There was a theft of my daughter's expensive cosmetics bag. We turned the room up-side down. Nothing. It took approx. 1 hour to complete an official security report.
The next day, we leave our room at 9[... read more]am, for the day. When we return (5pm), the cosmetics bag is sitting on the book shelf... 100%! it was not there in the morning. Clearly, it was returned by the thief.
No, it gets worse. The next morning, 8:30am, a young group of people living below us, started blaring their sound speaker...as loud as you would typically hear at a night club. I called reception and we asked to be moved.
No, it gets worse. Back at our room, we pack our bags and proceed to reception...but, we were told our new room is not ready. We had to wait 2 hours in the lobby for our new room.
We go to dinner and then to our new room. But, they never transferred our bags to the new room (as promised). At 9pm we finally! get our bags.
This resort is rated 5 stars. You've got to be kidding me. I would give it 1 1/2 stars, l'm being generous because the beach is very nice.
If some one were to offer me a "free" 1 week trip to this resort...100% l would turn it down.
Just terrible!

Melia Cayo Coco: Good value for your money
The hotel is small enough, convenient to walk between different restaurants and facilities. The beach is amazing, with clean white sand and turquoise water. Staff everywhere are respectful, provide amazing services; an attestation to hotel management. Restaurants' food are average compared to other Caribbean islands, but the cook-to-order seafood/meat section in the buffet restaurant is tasty. Theater entertainment shows are above average, but the main lobby live Jazz show is excellent! Paradisus Varadero: NOT A FIVE STAR RESORT!
The grounds were clean, the staff friendly, however, the rooms were not renovated as indicated on the website--we changed rooms three times. The beach area was full of stones. The food was okay--not amazing. Not what we expected according to their website.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Nice resort
The resort was in great shape visually. The ala carts were great. The hilltop restaurant was very nice. The miramar was amazing.
The service was just okay. The entertainment was just okay. Running out of food and wine is absolutely not acceptable. This is an all inclusive I should not have to buy wine. We should have been told. The owners do not care and think of as many excuses as possible.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great Stay!
We had a group of 8 stay at the PRDO feb 12-19. Aside from the perfect weather the resort was fantastic! The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely time. Some reviews state the beach isn’t ideal but we all found it perfect! There are some rocks but you are still easily able to lounge and swim. The pool bar staff were fantastic, Lorenzo and Osmany in particular. Food was good! The Mediterranean was very delicious and the Japanese was such a fun experience. Rooms were very clean. Sol Palmeras: Great Resort!
This is a smaller, older resort but great overall. We picked this resort beacause of the great reviews and the repeat customers.
We had a standard room which was perfectly fine but please ensure to ask for a renovated room. They still have old standard rooms which are not up to par.
Lots of selection to food and restaurants, including a BBQ grill at lunch and a snack bar on the beach. There is no bartendar service around the pool or the beach and there is no swim up bar at the pool. Rat[... read more]her there is a bar in the middle of the pool that you access by a bridge.
The al a carte restaurants were all great! We ate at the Latino, international, Italian, Chinese and the Tex Mex. Italian was our favourite but they were all good. Often people say the food in Cuba is bland, but we didn't experience this at this resort and this is our 4th time to Cuba. There were the odd times where they didn't have items as they ran out, but it was subsituted with something else if it was at the al a carte restaurants or if it was in the buffet, then usally the next day or two, they would have it.
The beach at the resort is awesome....large and wide compared to other resorts next to us and there were no rocks. There are a lot of beach chairs and spacious palapas. Best of all no pedlars trying to sell you stuff on the beach.
The hotel is in a great location, not to far from the town of Varadaro. We took a bus right outside the resort for 5 convertible Cuban pesos which is unlimited rides for the day as long as you keep the ticket. It was about a 15 minute ride to town. You can also walk to the Las Americas mall (5 minute walk) or take the free shuttle train from the resort. The resort also has bikes for free of charge but we didn't use them.
The activities at this resort were standard and could have had more and better promoted. The evening consisted of singers or magicians, etc. in the lobby bar. We really enjoyed the open air roof top lounge off of the main lobby. They did have an outside stage for shows which we didn't attend.
They have a very small gym with basic equipment but unfortunately wasn't air conditioned so it got very hot if you're doing cardio on the treadmill or elliptical machines.
The staff at this resort were awesome...very friendly and always wanting to please. This made our stay very enjoyable.
We would definitely recommend this resort.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: 2nd visit. Will be back again.
This resort, offers more than I could do in a 7 day trip. Keep in mind I'm there to relax and unwind. There is 7 hours of wifi included when you arrive, more than I required. The food is awesome for Cuba, it exceeds expectations. The entertainment staff, keep things lively considering how quiet the resort is. The vendors are polite and not pushy, they always make deal. Many people complain about missing creature comforts of home like chips, and condements, bring salt and pepper, and ketchup[... read more] packets, and individual peanut butter, if you are the things that will ruin your experience... The staff are always happy and many remembered me from my previous trip. If you have a question about what cigar is right for you, they have a fantastic Sommelier Aliens, he will be glad to help you!
My maid Mariluz kept my room immaculate, and made impressive towel creations daily.
I will return and I recommend you go.

We were looking for a quiet place to relax and we found it! The room was perfect, clean and comfortable. The beach was amazing, soft sand to walk on, clear blue water and not overcrowded. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Outstanding grounds
Paradisus Princess Del Mar has an outstanding grounds layout; everything is in located close by with many amenities. The pool is amazing and the beach incredible. A lot of beach chairs—not crowded together. Food is Cuban style; variety was good, prepared to your taste. Something for everyone. Staff is friendly who had to deal with customer complaints regarding NO WINE DURING MEALS (even at a la carte).! For a 5-star...not ideal considering the price paid.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Will definitely be returning
Just returned from an amazing week at Melissa Peninsula Varadero. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who were very fast and efficient. The resort is beautiful. Meticulously landscaped, and very clean. The buffet while not the biggest selection, was always good and service was great. We did the Italian and Japanese ala carte’s both were outstanding. The beach is second to none, just outstanding with lots of chairs. The pool area could use more shade areas, but has lots of seat[... read more]ing. The lobby bar although busy at times was always staffed by very friendly hardworking bartenders and waitresses. The nightly entertainment was okay but would have liked a bit more variety. Our housekeeper Alicia(room 1431) was just outstanding, keeping our room spotless and always surprising us with her towel creations. Thank you so much Alicia it was a real pleasure talking with you. I would definitely recommend this resort. Thanks to all the staff and management for making our stay so memorable. We will definitely be returning. Special thanks to our travel agent Kevin Dupuis (Trip Central) for recommending this resort.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Recent Yearly Stay
We have recently returned from our two week stay at the Paradisus
(Feb.4-18)
On the whole, things have remained very positive at the Paradisus, (as you will see with my star review below) despite fuel shortages across the country, and strained economic relations.
I will mention some worthwhile points.
1. I was happy to see that there were new shows added to the regular lineup, since we are yearly guests. Kudos to the young dancers, musicians, and entertainment team! (Delmis, Dian[... read more]a, Junior, Ali, just to mention a few.)
2. Of course, there is no lack of musical entertainment: small Cuban ensembles, awesome rock guitar, classically trained singers, clarinetist & flautists, the list is endless, and by far my favourite aspect of the holiday.
3. There did appear to be several shortages in the buffet this year, however, it did not stop one from enjoying the assortment of foods available at the grilling stations, pasta bar, or the regular cooked meats and vegetables. The a la cartes were good. By far, my best meal was at the El Patio, where I thoroughly enjoyed the suckling pig with candied sauce!
Too many names to mention for the extra care!
4. The only thing I can I say about service at the Paradisus, in terms of room care, reception, buffet, and bar.....wonderful!! Thank you to Yamalet, Delia, Yudith, Pablo, Maria, Yadira, Marice, Danilou, Raymond, Allien, Lenore, Yelenis, Dayle, Osmani, George, Lazarus, Yallie,, Youre’, William to mention some! Everyone goes out of their way regardless of how they feel! Always a smile! 😀
5. Smoking Areas: Greater attention on behalf of management is needed where smoking is concerned. Of course Cuba is great for it’s cigars, however, tables need to be clearly marked as smoking/non-smoking. Too often, patrons were smoking in non-smoking areas. :o(
In speaking with many guests over the 2 weeks, the general consensus is that the Adult only Paradisus is a favourite for so many! I look forward to my next visit.:o)

Melia Marina Varadero: Great Stay!
We had a one week Sunday to Sunday trip booked in Feb at the Melia Marina Varadero hotel. We also decided to travel and stay in Havana Tuesday to Thursday. Upon arriving at the hotel, check in was easy, although our room was not ready for another hour since we were early for check in. We stored our bags and were able to grab a sandwich from the snack bar by the pool.
The hotel is large and clean. Everyone was courteous and attentive. It is at the very end of the peninsula so you will be the las[... read more]t ones to get dropped off, and first ones to get picked up on any shuttles.
Our room was large and although somewhat dated, was maintained clean. The bed and pillows were really not comfortable but you get used to it. Our toilet ran, which meant you had to flush it twice (I only mention this because others complained about it...)
Between Sunday to Tuesday we felt that the hotel was actually quite empty, with an older Canadian crowd. When we came back from Havana, the hotel was full of Cuban families and couples and the vibe was much more lively. Turns out they had a promotion for Valentine’s day. Because of this, there were some lines to eat at the buffet, which we were able to skip by making reservations for the Hotel restaurants. The food at the buffet had enough variety to keep us happy. Our favourite was the snack bar by the beach for lunch as they had great vegetable options and a charcoal BBQ. The Hotel restaurants were okay, the service was great, but I think I prefer the options at the buffet. The process to book the restaurants was easy, and could be done in advance – I booked on Tuesday for Thursday, and on the same day for Valentine’s day.
The pools are huge, and even when the hotel was full, were never crowded. There are aquafit classes and Zumba classes throughout the day, that after a few drinks are quite fun to participate in.
The bars can get crowded but all the bartenders do a great job at multi-tasking. The drinks are generous pours and delicious. White wine sometimes ran out but you could always get more for $2 CUC at the tapas bar under the main staircase.
The beach is a short walk away, as the hotel is on the marina side, with a convenient shuttle that takes you back and forth if you need it. We never struggled to find chairs on the beach (although many were broken). There is some seaweed, but really the beach is quite magical.
The only con I really had was with fellow Canadians who were not on their best behaviour, and I am not talking about kids on spring break. We heard complaints about food not being made fast enough (it is literally being bbq'd in front of you), about not all staff being fluent in English (you would never expect the same if someone travelled to Canada), and just an overall level of arrogance and impatience that was really embarrassing! Yes, you are on vacation! In someone else's home country! Take a chill pill and relax, have a mojito and enjoy the beach.
I would stay again and recommend it to my friends and family

Melia Las Americas: Excellent Resort!
I found this resort very clean and the staff were very friendly and professional. I had a standard room and it was much larger than anticipated. The beach was the highlight, it was clean and there was never a problem getting a lounge chair. The only negative things would be I had trouble getting a reservation in a few of the restaurants at the earlier time I was looking for. I ate at the buffet most the time, and there was always something for someone and a good variety. The desserts could [... read more]have been changed out a bit more, for example, have pies or cakes.
Overall, if you are looking for a high-end resort and a relaxing time, this would be the perfect place. The majority of the guests were on the older side, which could be because it is an 'Adults Only' resort and geared to golfers.
