Beautiful resort , friendly staff, continental service. Do it yourself Upon arrival we were left alone to find our room which was assigned to someone else. Had to pay upgrade for a bed larger then a double. Whole resort under construction. The room next to us was under construction, because of that we had a large water leak flooded our bathroom. The next day toxic fumes because of the reconstruction of that room. We were told to stay in our room with both front and deck doors open to air out the[... read more] fumes. The staff at breakfast were only there to clear tables. Alot of staff there no one asking if you want coffee. It was all get it yourself. Very hard to get a drink at any meal. Bring your own from the bar before hand just water was put at table but not refilled Durning meal.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Wonderful Adult resort
I had a lovely vacation at this Resort the food was excellent the buffet was beautiful and have plenty of food plenty of selection so that nobody could complain really about the food they were very pleasant the people were very nice they helped you whenever they could they gave you brought you whatever you wanted to just were excellent. The rooms were there really nice and no they were clean the sheets were white clean really clean upon arrival there was a fruit bowl there with a bottle of wine [... read more]in the fridge in a little bottle of rum there it was great. The beach was a little bit of a walk so anyone with disabilities might have a little bit of trouble getting there unless they're in a wheelchair in any event they have it's a nice walk way that they can go to the beach on and once they get to the beach they have a special chair for people with disabilities to go in the water. All right I really had an enjoyable time they had to change my room once because the what was it the compressor died. Oh I woke up at 3 a.m. sweating because it had died in the middle of the night I went to the lobby and told him it's really hot in my room so immediately they sent the central meeting in person and asked me if I'd like to move into a room with better air conditioning right away they help me move my stuff and off to sleep I went and it was absolutely cool from there on in. The air conditioning in the second room was great it was nice and cool all the time. The only real complaint I have is the fact that Sunwing didn't take us directly to Puerto Plata we had to go to Punta Cana and then stop over there it took us from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Toronto time until 7:30 p.m. Puerto Plata time to get there it took a long time we were like 9 hours. They took us off the plane in Punta Cana and then they loaded us back on it was just ridiculous it was a very long exhausting and tedious day so we lost that day. And coming home we had to leave the hotel at 11 so we lost that day so technically we had a 6-day vacation.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Could be better...
Hotel
• Decent walk to & from the beach(make sure you bring anything you need for beach)
• There's a hot tub on the upper level EVEN THAT is closed by 8pm
• Great primary pool, but is severely underutilized. It's an adult only resort with a shallow pool(4.4ft) with beautiful color changing pool lights that can only be appreciated at night. Why aren't the "adults" allowed to swim after 8pm. It's a vacation/resort the min time should be 1am (really available whenever an guest wants to go [... read more]in) that includes the jacuzzi.
• Terrible wifi. It's included in the package but you have to be doing artistic poses to get a strong stable connection (rooms & throughout the resort grounds) & when you get one it drops.
Food
• Mexican restaurant: great options.
• Italian restaurant: can be better (over cooked)
• Dominican restaurant: need more variety in food choices.
• Beach bar/buffet isn't too bad, but variety in food choices there would be another bonus. Fruits in all locations (beach & buffet) were not recipe enough.
Rooms
• AC system comes & goes, this caused major condensation in the room, a small pool in fact.
• Hot water comes & goes.
• Not enough towels for the bathroom.
• No maid service door sign was available (had to call each morning).
• No toothpaste, face towels, not enough bathing toiletries.
• Room door broke(electronic key) , if it wasn't by luck one of us left early & tried coming back into the room, we would've been locked out.
• After all this, we didn't get a room change (even though there were available rooms, they just kept sending a repairman).
Staff
• Staff is touch & go, some positive/some negative, majority negative.
• The coordinators/staff need to speak much better English as majority of hotel guests tend to be from English speaking countries. It's going to be difficult to communicate with staff when they don't understand what your saying.
Activities
• Night life, extremely disappointed (it was a down season). They made no adjustments to make it a more inviting atmosphere. Although very good music selections for "disco night".
• Activities (scheduled) need to be updated, still using music & ideas from 10+ years ago.
• Definitely should try going to local bar/clubs. It's gonna give you a better night fun no"seniors" although can have fair amount of mid 20s to mid 30s inhabitants.
Beach (public)
• Beautiful sand, (very fine), but gentle.
• Alright setup for the beach chair to water distance. (if you leave your stuff on your seats, you won't be able to see it from the waters edge). So be careful leaving things unattended.
• During the busy season since it's a public beach, locals can pass through & with your stuff laying around, definitely can go missing.
• Definitely under utilized, they could make more of it with events & activities (day or night).

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Wonderful Time
Well kept hotel. Room was well stocked and clean, Beach area very nice. Just beware you will be constantly approached by vendors.
Food was average.
Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful.
My only concern is that the main pool needs to be renovated. Pool has some jagged areas as the cement is crumbling due to its age. My granddaughter cut her foot on the bottom of the pool.
This was my 4th visit to the resort and I would return.
All the entertainers were wonderful.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. There is something for everyone here due to its huge size. The rooms are always tidy and clean due to the hard working cleaning people. The pools are available almost everywhere, and there is a variety of different depths. The restaurants are also all delicious, but some have more variety than others. The entertainment is also an amazing part of the resort. Every night there is a show except for Thursday when they have a huge resort wide party. Casa Marina Reef Resort: This Resort is Waste of Money
The beach was not clean and there was not a variety of food. The rooms stung and the service was so poor. We were three guests in the room and the housekeeper was leaving only one small shampoo and only 2 small water bottles. In the restaurant the waiters didn't pay attention to the guests and serving as they were exhausted. Overall, was waste of money.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great little resort, Perfect for a weeks getaway in the sun!
Sunscape, Puerto Plata in Playa Dorada
Vacation review August 16th to the 23rd, 2019.
The airport was a breeze, and the transfer bus easy to find and the weather was superb.
A pleasant 15 minute drive to our hotel which was the first stop.
Has soon as we arrived we where escorted to a private check in for the Sun club.
I had prearranged this a week before and the upgrade was worth it.
The check in was relaxing and we had welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres, very nice.
The Sun club o[... read more]ffers family and adults only. The adults only is where we stayed.
The adults section had its own pool, which was small but adequate to cool off and relax.
It was also gated so another nice touch.
The rooms where clean and comfortable and maids cleaned and restocked each day.
They were pretty basic and simple but they had a really nice large screen TV and nice toiletries.
The hotel grounds where very clean and lush, everybody works so hard to keep it looking so pretty.
The hotel itself is a very small resort feel, with a family pool near the reception area and main buffet
and a larger pool with a swim up bar near the entertainment sections, restaurants above second level.
We never used the large pool but they had foam parties on a weekend that looked fun.
The beach was very close by and was huge and really nice, the waters had no sea grass or seaweed,
beautiful and clear and refreshing. The afternoons tended to get windy. There where quite a lot of vendors
trying to make a living selling various products, they would ask but if your weren’t interested they just walked away.
However It was quite annoying to be pestered from time to time, it would have been nice to have an area that the
vendors couldn’t enter. This didn’t spoil my vacation.
The restaurants where lovely, we used the Gohan, Pizzeria and Caribbean. The time of the year we went it was their quiet season.
So the Sun club continental breakfast was available in the mornings and also the buffet with a varied selection.
Snacks were available throughout the day and the buffet and restaurants in the evenings with the sack bars
available later on. Because it was quiet they alternated the restaurants, and we always managed to get a seat.
The weekends are busy and so patience is required when dining. The local people tend to use the resort on the weekends.
There was entertainment and schedules for everything, every day and a kids club. We where around to hear the entertainment as
its close to the restaurants and cafe bar, but we stayed near the adult bar most nights. There are some shops on site, and some
within walking distance, slightly cheaper. Theres also a city tour but we missed that one, but my husband and son booked the beach
buggies and had so much fun, they came back really muddy!
Overall a pleasant relaxing stay, great food and lovely hard working people who try to make your stay as memorable as can be.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing Trip at the VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort
We were a group of 5 ranging from ages 13-62. Upon our early arrival at 11am we were told the rooms may not be ready until 1pm or 3pm. The staff was accommodating to provide our 3 rooms as close as possible unfortunately that meant 2 of our rooms weren't ready until 3pm. This is understood though that this is check in time and we proceeded into the hotel to check out the grounds. From here on out I will break this review down.
Grounds/Pools/Rooms
The grounds were immaculate. I did n[... read more]ot see a cup/ straw/ cigarettes/ paper plate anywhere. The ground looked swept and mopped at all times. The hotel uses hard plastic reusable cups and there are no plastic straws, cups, plates that can be easily littered. I like this aspect as it's better for our environment. There was always a lounger by the main pool and the quiet pool was a nice break from the crowd. Rooms was kept clean and the maid service was impeccable. They attempted to clean rooms if it was inconvenient for you well into the afternoon. I have one suggestions for those that like an afternoon "siesta" the beverage guy came a little late and would wake my Mom up during her nap but through the week he accommodated her as well! 5 stars
Food/Entertainment/Beverage
The food options were amazing. We had not one complaint from our group and we had a strict Vegetarian travelling with us. She was able to find something at every meal. The buffet was never a let down. The A la Cartes, we only indulged in the Octopus and the Italian as they booked up very quickly. The Italian was fantastic we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. As for the Octopus this restaurant did not have much in way of Vegetarian options aside from the "cheese sticks" and my Sister indulged in about 8 of them, they were to die for! I ordered the Lobster at an additional cost of 35US but I received 3 lobster halves, potatoes, garlic butter, medley of vegetables. I barely finished the plate and it was a sight to see!
There is a VIP bar if you upgrade that is airconditioned and inside we didn't choose this option but you can go up and charge a drink to your room if you're craving a Bailey's after dinner. The Entertainment was okay the staff work hard but I've seen most of the kind of shows that they put on at resorts. There were pool tables and ping pong as well. We opted to play cards most of the time after dinner as a group. The Bars close at midnight and there is no Disco which for me was a bit of a disappointment as the drinks at the off site disco were very high. About $10 Canadian for a Corona so if you're looking for a "club" night be prepared with cash.
Conclusion
Although this is a calmer/smaller resort than what I am used to it was a breath of fresh air. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this resort, the customer service is by far some of the best I have experienced and you can tell they enjoy their job when you try to speak Spanish with them. It's the small things that help when visiting someone else's country so a little effort goes a long way. I have no complaints about the VH Gran Ventana and will return one day.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Fabulous stay with friends
My friend and I stayed at the cofresi palm beach resort by lifestyle, it was a fantastic stay. The room was not so great but we only slept there so we didn't care. We got fresh towels and toilet paper and clean room so we were good. The beach is I believe man made so it's not the prettiest. BUT all the pools were great and the place is HUGE so we had lots of options. You do have to shuttle a lot of places but there are shortcuts you can take to get to the restaurants. There are tons of a la cart[... read more]e restaurants but you do have to book them early because they go fast, every single one we went to was delicious. Casablanca buffet was amazing. Every night is a different theme so the food is not repetitive.I have read many reviews and they all said there are a lot of stairs and a lot of walking and they weren't kidding so if you're not prepared to upgrade to VIP to use the golf carts there's going to be a lot of walking. The people were amazing they treated us like Queens, if you stay at the cofresi there is a VIP bar it's called the sports bar and the bartenders are awesome it's has AC and the drinks are delicious I definitely recommend it. All in all it was a great stay.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Excellent resort
I must say I was surprised. I usually go to Cuba, but decided to try Puerto Plata. I was pleasantly astonished to find out that the rooms and food was much better than Cuba. However, the ocean is very rocky. You will find rocks that are 2-3 feet tall. However, that is not the case everywhere. There are certains parts that are flat and no rocks whatsoever. There are lots of waves as well, but I personally did not mind that. Staff was always friendly. Overall, great vacation!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Average
The buffet was understaffed. We had to chase someone for water or coffee every morning. It was worse on the weekend when nationals came for 2 days.
