Getting reservations was terrible. They wouldn't allow us to have more than 3 for fine dining and got denied at one restaurant for wearing dress shorts and not full length pants; in the heat of the islands I was expecting more logic and understanding from the staff. Unacceptable, will not return

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Just ok
I'm definitely not a picky person and an easy going traveller. The hotel was not bad in terms of cleanliness but the service was bad. I'm well travelled all though first time in DR. I didn't like the service AT ALL. rooms were Ok with many noisy neighbours. Beaches were superb, pools were nice and clean. The food was no different then Cuban food. It would serve the same for the next day by just adding something to the left overs to make it look different. The waterpark was a nice added feature a[... read more]nd added to the price of the hotel. Definitely a three star property

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: very disappointed
The staff was not very knowledgable, a few times we were sent to the wrong restaurant cause they didn't know the difference between the asian restaurant and the Japanese, one driver was outright rude with us when we asked.
Hotel does not have ice dispenser, so we had to call room service and they took more than 45 minutes to bring it to us.
Sometimes they'll leave enough water for three people and sometimes we had to go and get it ourselves.
One day I saw an employee that was supposed to clean t[... read more]he washrooms close to the beach, writing his name down and the cleaning time on a paper posted on the wall, and then taking off without cleaning.
The beach was full of seaweed, they had employes raking the seaweed but leaving it very close to the shore, big waves came and took it back to the sea again. I told the guy "if you rake it, you should pick it up" the guy looked at me and laughed on my face.
The only helpful person, and I truly appreciate his help, was Richard Morales!

Wyndham Alltra Samana: great resort
We are going back in March 2015. Can't wait we met new friends and the staff was wonderful.didn't see the time go by and we where there for 2 weeks. Love it. The food was great and we never ran out. Really enjoyed the party on the beach with a great meal and served like queens and kings the last night before we left the next day. Never had this before on our other trips.

Grand Palladium Palace: Not a very great experience
Resort was beautiful when we checked in and our room was fine on the first night. We had no idea where we were and thought that we were supposed to have a room with a loft. When we called the front desk we were told very rudely that we were given an upgrade and if we didn`t like it to call the concierge and then the phone was hung up. Our room was beautiful so we thought it would be ok. Questions regarding wifi were given 2 different answers - computers in the lobby, purchasing for access in our[... read more] room, which I did for $50, only to find out 3 days later that we could use the wifi in the lobby at no charge. During the middle of our second night we were woken by loud noises coming from the bathroom and the next morning our toilet was plugged. Cleaning staff came in and flushed and then it overflowed. Maintenance was called and we thought that the problem was solved. In the meantime, we tried to book our a la cartes with great difficulty. We were told that we could not book into the steak house at all during our week. After 3 attempts we were finally given reservations to the bbq, the steak house and the Japanese restaurant. Food at the buffets was not great, but the staff were so nice that we were ok with it. On our last evening we had a great time at the Japanese restaurant but when we got back to our room it was completely flooded. Maintenance was called and came at about 9 pm, worked until midnight to clean and disinfect. We were woken several times during the night with the loud noises coming from the washroom. At 6 am I got up and saw that the toilet was plugged again. I went to the lobby to use the washroom. I told staff at the front desk twice that we were not happy about what had happened and they told me that they would make a report. By this point we just wanted to get home! We got on our bus that afternoon and arrived at the airport. Going through customs was a nightmare. The computers went down, the fans were not on, children were screaming and after approximately 90 mins we made it through. Hurried to get to the duty free shop, but the power went off before we could pay for our purchase and were told to leave the store. We rushed to get to our gate and managed to grab something quickly at the next duty free, but had no time to eat before we boarded. We did not eat before leaving the resort because we thought that we would have a lot of time at the airport and with no sleep the night before, we were exhausted. Upon our return, our daughter Stephanie left 2 voice mail messages with Trip Central to talk about our trip, but her calls were not returned. She felt terrible because she researched and helped us book our first trip to an all inclusive resort. The food, beverage, cleaning and maintenance staff are very nice, but we would never go back to this resort.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: The good the bad and the ugly!
The overall resort was beautiful, very clean. My biggest problem was the food everything was undercooked in the buffet. Also, there were many catches such as a la carte is only avail at the end of your vacay (they lie and say they are fully booked). After a certain time of day the staff are told to hide ketchup! ( I had to beg waiter to sneak some). Besides that it's a nice resort but a lot of kids! If you're looking for a private getaway this is not the place!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Family Getaway!
Very clean, friendly resort. Staff was extremely friendly. Rooms were clean. Really enjoyed our stay. Only negative feedback is that there wasn't much support from the restaurants with regards to food allergies and it took a long time to get assistance from front desk.

Grand Palladium Palace: Allergic persons, beware!
Neat resort, very clean except on the day when it ran out of water. Then, all public toilets were full to the rim with human waste, some overflowing on the floor. One client of the hotel, a plumber by trade, helped fix one toilet. Not the kind of activities you expect while on vacations, I bet.
My fellow traveler, allergic to peanuts and nuts in general, had a bad experience at the tapas restaurant. Even though she asked if her dessert contained nuts and was assured by the waiter, a young man, [... read more]that it did not, it did in fact contain nuts. She was very sick that night (cramps and vomiting). We did return to the tapas restaurant on our last night. We did not expect the steak tapa to contain nuts! Again, she had an allergic reaction, but this time she came prepared with Benadryl. The reaction was mild. She did speak to the manager, who explained to her that she should have got some "Allergy card" at the front desk the night we arrived (we arrived @ 11:30pm) to ensure proper service at restaurants. That experience left us a bit weary.
We both got hit with Matuzema's revenge, my friend on our last day at the resort and I back home. Avoid any food not cooked, said the nurse back home.
The room was lovely, with 2 double beds, shower, toilet, sink and tub, though we would have preferred not to have the bath tub in the sleeping room, but in the bathroom, as we are not a couple. Our balcony faced the ocean.
This place is actually 4 resorts on one gigantic property. A mini train of sort travels between the different hotels. The property is very well maintened (except for the overflowing toilets when the water is cut off). Clients have access to all restaurants, except the one reserved for the clients of the adult-only resort. No sign warns you of this so we waited 30 minutes for a restaurant just to be told that we could not go in.
No reservations at the restaurants. The steak house and the Italian restaurants have long queues that form 45 minutes before the doors open. Before queueing, always check that the restaurant is actually open that night (information that is not given at restaurants, but on a card display in the lobby).
We had no clue how the Brasilian restaurant operates. The waitress kept coming by with more meat until we told her we had enough. She then turned a green card on our table to the red side. This meant we didn't want any more food. If someone had told us that, we would have turned it ourselves way before, instead of wasting food. Overall, the best restaurant was the steak house. Perfectly grilled meat (I like mine medium-rare), but all plates had these funny decorations that looked like alien antennas.
Make sure to bring enough medications and sunscreen, as the products sold at the resort store are 20 times more expensive than in Canada. US$40 for a bottle of sunscreen? No thank you.
Staff is friendly, but a part from the personnel at the front desk, most speak limited English.
About the beach. Lovely beach, with white sand, but the clients go out at 4:00-5:00 am to put out their beach towels and reserve umbrellas! This meant we either had to find shelter under some bushes or try to fit our chairs under the limited shade of the coconut trees that line the beach. Either the clients are crazy or there is really not enough sun umbrellas.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great vacation, was scared at first
We got a great price through trip central the pictures looked awesome and got me hooked. A lot of mixed reviews but decided to book anyways as I was hoping there would be a lot to do and people were wrong. This resort is great!! foods good, people are nice, a lot of pools and bars to choose from. I made sure we got the Noli plus package which got us in a central located suite, which was perfect!! I believe if you are a laid back easy going person that doesn't look for negatives you will have a g[... read more]reat time! Our room wasn't huge but had a king size bed and large patio which was perfect for us, the buffet is good to but if you are a picky eater I can see why some people may not agree. The drinks I thought were delicious, not watered down or made with not good alcohol. What I noticed is the alcohol and liqueurs they do use are locally made and nothing is wrong with them. My fave drink was the lifestyle party ( milk, grenadine, blue curacao), or the banana mama.
Downfall would be the A la carte went to 1 of the 3 simply because we were unable to change them due to time and booking, but wasn't a big deal since we enjoyed the buffet and the buffet had theme nights.Foam party was awesome, VIP party Awesome, Welcome party awesome. We did 2 excursions waterfalls and snorkeling, awesome!!!!
I would definitely go back again and if you are having reservations like I did I say don't. Go with an open mind and are laid back you will have fun there is a lot to do and see. Now have been there I feel like the negative reviews come a lot from very picky people who prob travel a lot!! and may compare this resort to better ones they have been too. If you don't like walking or waiting for shuttles then this is not for you, I enjoyed walking around and checking things out also nothing is more then a 5 min or so walk away but for some that can be a lot.
Anyways I hope this review helps great price, great hotel, reviews scared!!!! me but quickly realized for myself that they weren't as true or as big of a deal as made out be.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana: Great Resort - Would Definately visit again
Resort was fantastic. My only dislike was the pool service (drink & snack bar), no ashtrays were provided for smokers and for a Hard Rock, there was very LITTLE rock and roll music. The pools played the club house music all day, and the resort indoor bars only had a rock and roll band 2 nights out of 7. The remaining was club music.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Grand Bahia Principe Resort Review
We enjoyed the resort. The resort is well maintained, clean. There was a problem with the toilets...flushing issues. When we first arrived our villa was not cleaned...it had a foul smell going up the stairs but as more people came in the week, it had been cleaned. We had the Royal Golden suites but the rooms were exactly the same. VIP room gave us a safety deposit box, room services which was slow, the services we received as VIP did not make much difference in our trip. The cleaning services so[... read more]metimes didn't come until the evening of the following day...having clean towels was an issue. Service regarding beach towel could be improved. We enjoyed the pools, the beach had too much seaweed. Lot of seaweed that was on the shoreline made it difficult to walk along the beach without getting little sticks caught in your feet. When we first arrived the dining services were efficient. We got seated quickly and service was good. As the week progressed the service got worse. Dining a la carte at French and Italian restaurant was excellent. I also did not like the number of presentations we had to attend e.g. Privilege Club, Timeshare, Lifeshare. There should be a way to tell them you are not interested before you arrive so they don't keep intruding on your vacation.

Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus: Not even close to 5* hotel it rates itself
Grounds: Look picturesque but... peacocks screaming their heads off in the middle of the resort starting around 3am. We had to suffer for 2 weeks; the management did nothing to our request for relocation to any room not overlooking the central area where the birds are roaming free. Other things were OK but having slept only a few hours per night we didn't really enjoy them much.
