Roc Barlovento: Home away from home
Unlike other Varadero hotels we've stayed at, Roc Barlovento has remained comfortable and consistent over the past four years that we have stayed there. The rooms are always clean, and things usually work (ie toilet, shower, tv, ac). Food choices were a little lackluster this past trip, but there is always something worth eating. I appreciate the quietness, and beauty of the grounds and beach. The staff is usually in a good mood and eager to help. Great value for the money!
Hotel Villa Cuba: Good Value Vacation
Good value for the money we paid. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Beach is nice. Food a bit repetitive but you can get buy. Lots of French Canadian and Russians. Smoking is allowed in public areas. Overall a nice vacation.
Roc Barlovento: Great Beach and Location!
Hotel is small and older, rooms very dated but clean, 2 pools ( not enough shade at pools) but great beach, always enough shade and chairs, 5 min walk to everything....lots of room for improvement but good enough! Lots of older guests, not many young partying....Loved that it was small and intimate, old style Cuba!
Club Karey: Amazing staff
Not much too eat but very clean good staff, not too noisy, good entertainment, snack bar was very good, pool is clean, drinks are cold and refreshing, music was great, private restaurant was delicious, like the beds, woke up in shape
Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Amazing Vacation!
We had a wonderful time at the Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo. The resort is an older resort but extremely well maintained. The grounds were well maintained and clean. The pools crystal clear. The beach beautiful with the ability to walk in both directions quite far. It is a beach frequented by kite surfers so lots to watch! The main pool has a wonderful pool bar with an excellent grille for hamburger, fries, etc. The drinks great. My favourite place - the lobby bar and cafe had wonde [... read more]
Club Kawama: Krazy Kawame
Kawama is a fun spot for the budget conscious while still giving you a stunning beach, comfortable bed, attentive staff and a delicious cappuccino. The shows are pretty lack-lustre but there’s always a cold bevvy at the bar and some form of excitement with the friendly colourful folk. Kawama’s location is perfect as it’s off the strip but close to town to explore the many night spots, restaurants and markets Varadero has to offer. Great swimming pool, decent food, bar burgers and grilled c [... read more]
Hotel Villa Cuba: never again
This trip was a second one this year to the same resort . First one we have delay of 6 h for the departure and we lost a lot of precious time but the resort was nice so we decide to go again after 8 months. Second trip was very disappointing since there was no towels in the rooms , food was less variety and always something missing. On top of that the hola sun representatives should book our paid trip to caves Matanzas for Wednesday, we waked up early and when bus stop our name wasn’t on the l [... read more]
Club Kawama: club kawama awful resort
dirty pillows, stinky blankets dont know the last time they were washed stinky room with poor service,,staff took forever to fix our safe..we paid for it they were quick to get our money but super slow to fix the safe..we got contamination from food and or water.unhygienic place..even the animals look unwell.awful resort will never go back.
Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Beautiful staff, beautiful beach!
Excellent staff who welcomes all like family. Grounds are immaculate. Beach is clean, lots of chairs and gorgeous clear water. Excellent kite school with lessons available. Kiting here is the best location in Cayo Coco/Cayo Guillermo. Great value for the price.
Club Kawama: Would choose different resort on the same beach.
Very little positives at this resort. When it's difficult to acquire a simple thing like bottled water there is many more problems. Staff are not very helpful Rooms look nice but getting a toilet or light bulb fix could take your whole week. Better to eat and get supplies off resort. Security and door staff are very friendly and helpful other than that it's touch and go. Perhaps Cuba economy plays a factor in this review and it was bad timing for our vacation at Kawama because I have heard [... read more]
Club Kawama: Absolutely terrible except the beach
The rooms were very run down and not cleaned. Our last day we looked under the bed to make sure we didn’t miss any of our stuff and found a flip flop from a previous guest so obviously it’s never cleaned under the beds. The food was terrible with almost no selection staff with the exception of a few people were rude and uncaring. The hotel ran out of water and told us we had to go down the street to buy it at the store. Had to eat out every night. The pool was clean but no swim up bar. Beach [... read more]
Club Kawama: awful
old rundown hotel, dirty rooms, awful food...thank goodness for the beach. can literally not say one good thing about this resort. although the odd day when they put out the stale crackers and pickles for snacks was at least edible. avoid!
Club Kawama: skip this resort
rooms are old, outdated, and mildly gross (bloody towels) all the safes are broken and they will make you pay for them upon check in, even though the reception already knows they’re broken. be prepared to be ripped off as well...as each front desk lady makes up a different price for the safe...i “lost†$20 Canadian that day! the buffet food is evil...out of our group of 23 almost everyone was “busy in the bathroom†for most of the trip. also the resort will “run out of water†[... read more]
Club Kawama: Disappointed
When travelling to Cuba everyone expects the food to be horrible which was true at this resort but it was so bad to the point we had to eat out every meal. Spend the extra $500 for a nicer hotel because you'll spend that on eating out anyways. They also ran out of bottled water and had guests going back and forth between the front desk and different bars telling us the other person had the water. Their beach towels were always "being washed" so they never had any for us. Our bathroom light blew [... read more]
Club Kawama: Good resort for the money!
Food not so good, activity crew non existent. Ocean is awesome, staff are also awesome! We ate off the resort more than on for dinner. Ate Breakfast and lunch there, grill at bar is great. Beatles bar is a must!
Roc Barlovento: Great Intimate Hotel
New ownership leading to good improvements.Rooms are slowly being upgraded, new pool chairs, more ashtrays at the beach, staff are as wonderful as ever. Still need more garbage receptacles around pool areas and lobby. Lobby seating could use new cushions or at least wash the ones already in place. Food could use more variety if products available - take your own condiments. Beach area clean and beautiful. Location is perfect, markets and restaurants within walking distance. Special thanks to Cla [... read more]
Hotel Villa Cuba: Would NOT recommend
Was not very pleased with the resort. Food was aweful, no hot water for 2.5 days, had to hide the toilet paper (if you had a few squares they would not replace or leave a new roll) we had to go to public bathrooms just to get some. The towels they gave you for a shower were the size of hand towels. We had to use our pool towels. The bath tubes were disgustingly dirty we had to wear our sandles in the shower. And tones of aunts...be sure to bring raid to spray your rooms The beach was beau [... read more]
Roc Barlovento: Charming and authentic
The staff was very friendly, smiling and helpful. Our chambermaid, Alina made a different towel sculpture everyday and she was very happy to have a conversation, as were all the staff. All staff was bilingual, even trilingual and professional. The grounds were beautiful, well maintained and clean. There is a lot of foliage at this resort, which is one of the reasons we chose it. The beach was perfect and there was even an employee there to make sure we had a lounge chair and he brushed the sa [... read more]
