Hotel and staff are great! Beautiful beaches and food is delicious! I've traveled to a number of places and resorts, this was one of my favorites for food! Drinks are tasty too. Would highly recommend!

Riu Palace Tropical Bay: A Great Resort
From the moment you walk into the reception area you know this place is going to be a great place to stay. The room was clean and spacious, the food at the restaurants and buffet were wonderful with the buffet having a very large selection. The beach was what one expects to find in the tropics, clean white sand and shade to be had under a palm tree.
What made this place extra special was the people. The pride they showed in their work and how they were ready to help. Truly an exceptional [... read more]group.

Riu Emerald Bay: Awesome Resort
We had the BEST time at Riu Emerald Bay! The staff was awesome, super friendly and helpful it really seemed like they loved being there! The hotel its self was SO clean, second to none! Food was good if you go hungry here it's your own fault they had everything anyone could want! Service was great no lines for food. The bars can be a bit busy but that's to be expected but never waiting longer than about 5 minutes for a drink. Pools were great! Beach is AMAZING! I would recommend this hote[... read more]l to anyone. We brought out 3 kids youngest is 9 and oldest is 13, they had a GREAT time and we felt SAFE SAFE SAFE the entire time! The only bad thing I have to say is that the beds were quite hard not overly comfortable unfortunately. But other than that totally worth it!

Riu Ocho Rios: Fourth time at Riu Ocho Rios
Never a disappointment! We love the hotel, entertainment and staff! I prefer the à la cartes to the buffet, only because I’m a picky eater. Might go back for a 5th visit in 2027! We tried Riu tropical palace in Negril but it doesn’t even compare.

Riu Ventura: Beautiful new resort
We recently stayed as a group at Riu Ventura. Resort is brand new. Rooms are beautiful and clean. The food, drinks and service are great. The beach is beautiful however the water is pretty rough. Our kids loved it but they are older. May not be a great choice for little ones. There is quite a lot of noise from traffic in the evening. Upon arrival there was a strong sewage odour outside the front of the Hotel that lasted the first couple days but never smelled after that. You don't smell it insid[... read more]e. I understand there is a sewage facility nearby. Overall we had a great stay.

Riu Ventura: Worse Resort ever!!! star rating 2.5 to 3 the most
Seeing that I paid over $6,000 for a week my expectations were high seeing this is suppose to be a 5 star and equivalent to a Dreams resort. What went wrong
1. Food poisoning that my husband got from the sport bar (chicken wings)
2. Cancun is known for high winds, they choose the cheaper way and only put out umbrellas. Due to high winds, we only were able to sit on the beach 2 days as they advised that the umbrellas will fly away. They should have installed permanent Palapas.
3. No ent[... read more]ertainment during the day, they did Yoga at the pool for 30 min in the morning only
4. Buffett - TERRIBLE. When they cook your eggs, they cook them in advance for any type of egg and set them under a heat lamp
5. A La Carte - The Italian and Japan is Buffet??? To get your apps and desserts are buffet style, only the 1 main item is off the menu. I have never seen a part time buffet at an A La Carte. The Gourmet is horrible. The only good one is the Steak House. Of course, this is suppose to be a no reservation resort, but NOPE not the Steak House. We went to do the Italian restaurant at 7:10 PM and was told they were booked??? How can that be if there is no reservations needed and they close at 11PM.
6. No 24-hour room service
7. No Hot Tubs
8. Air Conditioner was broken
9. Putrid smell in our room and in the hall way of sewage. We went down to the front desk to ask about the smell and they were unsure. My husband who is a Plumber and Gas Fitter, went across the street to GoMart, and saw the workers working on the pipes. Obviously they were plugged. Eventually the smell was gone. The worse part was when they covered the smell in the Lobby with perfume.
8. The designated smoking area was in the middle of the ground with no shade what so ever
9. No drink service at beach or pool, you had to get your own drinks
10.Mayonnaise is left out in heat 24/7
11.Meant 4 other people that were sick from the food. Obviously there working stations are not cleaning properly and not being monitored
12.There are 3 Elevators only 2 worked. We took the stairs to get to the lobby and surprise it only takes you to the first floor. We went back up, and could not figure out how to get to the lobby. After roaming the halls there is a green sign with a person running, that is the stair case you need to take. Their were a total of 7 of us all strangers trying to figure this maze out. If there was a fire, this is a MAJOR LIFE RISK!!!!
Huge disappointment for the price that we paid for 2 of us. They are using the RIU brand name, but truly are only a 2 or 3 star at the very most.
The GOOD
1. Room is very clean and beds were comfortable

Riu Latino: It’s ok, not great.
This hotel is not 5 stars it’s 3 on a good day. My boyfriend and I arrived late that we missed dinner on the first night. So our option was the 24 hour snack bar, you know what we had to choose from, ham and cheese sandwiches and ice cold hot dogs that we were told to microwave. So 0 star on that. The beach was fantastic! It looks like a Cuba beach which is amazing, however if you want drinks on the beach you better be ready to wave down only 2 servers that serve the beach or participate in a lo[... read more]nnnnnnggggg sandy walk back to the pool bar. If you go to a Riu expect them to force the jungle/pink/white/neon parties every chance they get because that’s what you are paying for at Riu. I personally won’t go to a Riu again but that’s because it was all about parties. This resort is not the place if you want to relax and have good food. The buffets are the exact same every meal and they are mid at best. The restaurants are boring and barely a step up from the buffet. The only positive thing I have to say is that they upgraded us to a Riu Palace down the road 5 days in because they overbooked. And let me tell you the Palace was a large step up from the Latino. I would recommend this place to the fresh 18-22 year olds that don’t have kids and want to meet people. If you aren’t that category don’t go here.

Riu Guanacaste: Hidden Gem!
We hadn’t really considered Costa Rica in the past and had stuck to the Caribbean. This resort, and the entire country of Costa Rica feels like a hidden gem. We stayed at the Guanacaste, which has been beautifully renovated. The rooms are clean, and the beds are very comfy.
Food is great, especially at the buffet!

Riu Guanacaste: Beautiful resort
We stayed here for 1 week and it was perfect. It was all new therefore everything was absolutely beautiful from our room to the lobby area to the restaurants to the pools;) All areas are always clean and the service was excellent. The ocean was great to swim in and although we do not like to sit on the beach we could see that there are not many areas that you can get shade. We would definitely go back to this resort for sure;)

Riu Lupita: Good service at average resort
Service was good! People like Carlos(supervisor ?)in the buffet was always very welcoming and couldn’t do enough it seemed. And also the server Sayman was eager to please too.
Santos and Bianca in the main bar were excellent and very friendly.
Delphino worked the beach bar (mostly) and was also very good and friendly.
Overall the service was good even at the check in/lobby. When we needed or asked for something they did their best to do it quickly. Whether a request in person or through [... read more]the RIU app. (A very handy tool to know what is open(or available) or what shows are on each day at the theatre or to make a complaint (about the room for example) although there were very few for us over our 2 week stay!
The beach shuttle works as it should w a very friendly driver who usually plays “local Latin music” which helps get the day started off with a smile and a tapping foot! He “fist pumps” every single rider and always has a big smile and a Hola or Buenas dias!
Now for some constructive criticisms.
Entertainment:
Some nights we enjoyed it and some nights it felt like we were at a high school musical or at a budget friendly resort. (Which I guess, some may call the Lupita).
For what we paid however, this is not in our “budget friendly category”. So for what we paid, we were a little disappointed.
The grounds were ok. The rooms and buildings are ok. However, Everything is showing its age. Dirty and a little uneven walkways with grease and oil spills from vehicles on the pavement to and from our room(I personally would never walk barefoot around this resort). Our room was on the other side of the tennis court,(I wouldn’t recommend it as there seemed to be better blocks/units around the quiet pool)
We had to mostly walk by where all the buses were parked. We had to walk through this to get to our room or take longer to walk around it. Not a big deal but of course we always took the shorter route.
Pools - the main pool is dirty. The water felt slimy and the smell was bad. We had the feeling it was getting pee-d in and not getting scrubbed clean each day. The tiles were slimy the whole time we were there.
The “relaxing pool” was better and was also a quiet escape from the music and busyness of the main pool. The main pool had a bubble party and a few other fun events and activities throughout our stay(2 weeks-which we felt was 1 week too long).
Lots of wildlife around and not an issue for us as we love animals! The stray cats had a little house and food/water provided. There was a sign saying they were spayed/neutered and had up to date vaccines. (Hope this is true). The cute “coaties” (a native rodent type species) were everywhere but didn’t bother us. Even though they were scouring everyone’s tables looking for food.
Loads of birds, geckos and iguanas mostly around the quiet pool.
Food was ok at the buffet. Service at all restaurants was good. The Mexican, Italian and steak house (a La carte choices) were ok but the Italian and Mexican is not organized well. When 7pm comes you need to be right at the entrance or you won’t get a seat. Then you will have to wait for an hour to get in.
The steak house is different as you need a reservation. However - At 7am “on the morning of” you need to line up in front of the buffet restaurant to secure your spot. 7am is early and you should be there a few minutes before as there are always those people who don’t see any lines and feel they can just walk to the front. This happened a few times throughout our stay but for the most part people were good and respectful.
Breakfast at the beach is almost non existent. We tried it once and decided to have breakfast before heading there.
The shuttle would drop you off near 5th avenue and that worked great for us. Did that many times.
So I would give the Lupita 3 stars overall. Needs a little tlc. Needs better entertainment. Better organizational for the a La Cartes.

Riu Republica: very nice
We liked it very much and expect to get back.
Nice resort, well situated on a long beach of white sand. Impressed by the number of chairs, the dunes next to the beach with shade under the trees.
Lots of bars including wet bars, some more quiet, others with lots of entertaining.
Liked the bar in te room with whiskey, rum, gin and vodka.
Big (huge) self serve main restaurant. A second opne on the far side. The a la carte not so good.
Good service and the food was quite diverse. Had a gastro a[... read more]fter the spanish restaurant and never went to another a la carte afterwards. I heard other people complaining about gastro on the scuba trips.
No sports on the beach, probably because of the wind. Nice waves though and clear water.
Rooms are large with air conditioning running without having to keep a key card in the room.
Good entertainment in most of the days.
If it rained (one evening) we realized that we didn't have to go out in the rain to move almost everywhere on the site,
On the bad side for the administration of the resort, the checkin was a nightmare. We did the online checkin in advance. We still spent more than one hour at the special checkin desk waiting in line to discover that our online checkin didn't count.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Great pools, great food, no family friendly evening entertainment
We really enjoyed Riu Palace as a multigenerational family trip - 2 young kids, parents and grandparents. Quiet, lovely resort with huge pools, excellent food, attentive friendly staff and clean, spacious rooms. Staff were lovely with our young children and very friendly (and patient with us trying to practice Spanish!). *We enjoyed the waterpark (over at Santa Fe) a few times - the small splash area is appropriate for young children, and the larger waterslides are only for >120cm tall (my li[... read more]ttle one was quite disappointed). Very impressed at the level of supervision from lifeguards.
My only suggestions/comments:
* Swim up rooms include small plunge pool which our children loved but only available for booking to 'adults only' (grandparents stayed here) and not bookable to be close to any other room type so we weren't able to stay very close by which was our original request.
* Evening entertainment mostly involved going over to nearby Riu SanteFe for 'parties' that were not family-friendly at all. One evening was a
'kid friendly' show at 730pm at Palace but was very poorly done with terrible 'mascot' and awkward child-friendly characters. We would have preferred any cultural show or generic show that started before 9pm to enjoy/watch as a family.
* For families or anyone wishing a quieter room, ensure you are NOT near activity pool nor overlooking Santa Fe resort walkways or pools.

Riu Palace Macao: Great two week vacation!
We loved the Riu Palace Macao. Check in and out at the desk was easy. They accommodated our group of six in the same building and on the same floor with King beds. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The shower water was always hot. The room was clean and quiet (room 5113). The buffet was very good. ALL the buffet staff were always friendly and moved tables so our group of six could sit together. Pepe's Food Grill at the pool was amazing! The grounds and bathrooms were always clean. We especia[... read more]lly enjoyed ALL the activity staff who made our stay fun! Everyday there were activities around the pool. Short easy games of hoop toss, ladder toss, corn hole, board bowling, darts, plinko, bingo etc. There were two ping pong tables at the pool that we enjoyed using. Everything was within easy walking distance for us 65 + visitors.
