Magical place

Beautiful gardens.The room was spacious and clean,they made sure the fridge was full.The restaurants were perfect and the servers very friendly and polite.I enyoyed my stay very much.The only thing I did not like ways the Air Transat rep.he was not the most friendly.I could not understand him very well.

Wonderful place

Absolute beautiful.Almost magical. The grounds are impeccable. Did not like when I went shopping they took me for one shop,and I felt compelled to buy something.Rather be on my own.The entertainment could be better.why not use the trapeze? Or ballet in the water.

Friendly Staff and Fun resort

The hotel is very big, it has a lot of good amenities such as sports bar, kids zone, kids pool, and the best part is pool bar:) The buffet is ok but the alacarte was really good. The staff works hard and friendly. The entertainement in the theater was great. However, the day entertainment by the pool area can be improve. The room we have was oceanfront but gave us a double bed and our room was above the French restaurant and you can hear pots and pans at all times in the room. We requested a new room with a king but the view isnt as great. The room is clean they maintain the room everyday and fresh towels daily. Our last day the we didnt have hot water we called the front desk but we were checking out anyway so we ended up just having a cold shower. Guest Services were all very accomodating with the dinner reservations and booking alacarte is never a hassle. The beach is pristigne, clean, and no seaweed compare to other resorts beside it. We walked about 3 miles along the beach to the market and we found that Occidental Caribe had the best beach and sand. Also, the beach isnt very crowded because the beach area is big. The buffet workers and chef are so friendly, but I wish the coffee and water can be a bit hotter in the morning. Overall experience in this resort was amazing. Both big pools are kept clean and maintain. Love the pool bar and the bartender is super friendly.

Nice Resort

Clean grounds, lobby, restaurants and bars. Rooms were nice for a 4 star, everything worked well ! Maid service daily was great and most staff very friendly. No pushy time-share folks like Palladium and Hard Rock that we visited in 2017. As much as the dune buggy (Polaris Rzr's) look exciting, they are a bigger rip-off than previous times as you spend more time stopping at 'family vendors' than you actually do any driving. Not bad, not amazing

Overall good experience... Pools and beaches were well maintained and cared for, rooms were dated but fair size, food was just okay, only good food was the Japanese restaurant, staff were all very pleasant and professional and very good English for a Spanish destination.

Occidental caribe

Hotel was very clean , staff at the bar stations at the best of time was friendly and quick to serve drink . Speaciality restaurants were ok but the japenese was our favourite, the buffet was horrible and the food was not what we expected compared the the occidental we stayed at in Aruba . Definitely will not be my first choice again . You need more shaded area by the pool which was very clean

Great Time !!

Just returned from this resort and all was good ! My husband and I went with 2 other couples and there were no real complaints. Pools are clean & nice, the pool with the pool bar has all the entertainment and is louder and the other pool is quite large and is quiet. This offers good options, if you just feel like relaxing or if you want to party it up your choice. Staff are friendly. food is good. All of us upgraded to a Superior oceanfront room, view was excellent.. Great resort!!

Would go back to this resort. If you’re looking to hang out in your room, probably not the resort for you, as rooms are dated. We didn’t care about that. Food was good, beach was beautiful. We had a great vacation.

Awful experience

The hotel itself, the room, the view and giving us complimentary champagne for our anniversary was lovely, unfortunately that was the only nice things about the experience. We arrived late Monday evening and went for something to eat on the buffet. Later that evening I was ill, it could have been from the full day of travel but I have traveled many times in the past and did not have this happen. It was apparent from the first morning going down to the buffet for breakfast that the service was [... read more] not the best. Almost every morning this would happen, we would get a table, we could never find one already set with cups, napkins and silverware. Then one of us would wait at the table to get a cup of coffee. Most of the wait staff spoke very little English so communication was quite a struggle. If you were Spanish speaking you received excellent service, sometimes more than one server at the table. I am not too sure if the staff were hesitant to approach due to the language barrier. On the Wednesday we were at the pool swim up bar, I am not too sure if this was due to having too much sun or having a reaction from the liquor they call Mamawanna but I became very ill and had to be assisted back to my room by wheelchair. Again, I would say that my husband and I have traveled many times to Cuba, Mexico and cruises and have not had this happen. For two days there was no cold water in the room, therefore you could not flush the toilet or take a shower. Then we had no hot water for one day. We usually love to sit on the beach and enjoy the ocean. Unfortunately it was far too windy to be able to enjoy that, the pools are kept very clean and we did enjoy the quieter pool that had wonderful service for lunch at the restaurant. It was helpful that we were able to have a la carte restaurants almost every night as we found the buffet quality of food not very good. Things did improve slightly when we had a great experience on an excursion. We were stopped in the lobby daily to try to get us to buy into their vacation club and found this very annoying. We went to try to purchase souvenirs at a local market within walking distance and found the people very aggressive, we did not return and purchased things at the airport instead. On the day we were leaving I called for assistance with our luggage and they did not understand at the front desk. My husband was returning the towels so I attempted to bring the suitcases down, I was struggling to bring them to the front desk and was not offered any assistance. I asked the front desk where we could store our bags, the girl simply pointed to a door. I went to the door, it was locked, when going to get assistance from one of the bellmen I tripped and fell, again no assistance from anyone. We had our beach towels stolen from poolside not once but twice. I spoke to the manager regarding this and he did assist me to get new towels. In the advertisement for the package it said there would be a robe, slippers and a bottle of rum in the room, this was not there upon arrival, when trying to speak to staff or the Sunwing rep again there were things lost in translation and understanding. It is customary that the cleaning staff leave a decorative towel design, ensure that there are fresh towels and restock the bottles of water as needed unfortunately this did not happen as well. This was out first experience in Domincan Republic and I do not think we would return. For the amount of money spent I really felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff and they really did not like the tourists at all. A very different experience from when I have traveled in other countries where they are so very polite, friendly and approachable. This was a vacation that I wanted to leave to go home instead of feeling sad for leaving. The flight was excellent and staff on the flight very friendly.

Great vacation

We enjoyed our stay at this resort. It is in a great location with a very nice beach and pools. The restaurant choices were adequate and the service was great. We had an ocean front room with a great view! However the room itself was average and could use some upgrading in the bathroom. Overall though the resort was clean and the staff friendly and accommodating.

Awesome resort

We loved the place. The beach was amazing with enough chairs for everybody. Our room was nice and clean, the food was good at the buffet. A+ for the French, Japanese and the Italien restaurants. The two pools area was fantastic with plenty of activities. I would definitely recommend this place.

Service sucked

The service sucked at this hotel... I've been to 3 star hotels that have better staff and service then this hotel. Also the afternoon events were lacking ...no bingo and Zumba dancing. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will not be returning there.

Well laid out resort

I really like the way this resort is laid out. The resort is very wide instead of deep so all rooms are close to the beach, pools, restaurants, and Lobbys. The beach has many palm trees so there is lots of lounges in the shade if you want that. The beach is beautiful. Some of the other resorts down the beach had some seaweed problems but not here. Do it your way

This was our second visit so we knew what to expect. If you are able to overlook some imperfections this is a good resort. The beach is great. We liked the layout of the resort with quite areas, and not so quite areas, day and night. There are lots of activities for all ages and lots of places just to relax. There are guests from all over, many families and kids. The food is good, no need to go hungry. Don't expect 5 star meals. If you have food allergies learn how to say so in Spanish. The second was inundated with sounds from the restaurants. If you like to hit the sack before midnight you should arrange for a quiet place room when booking. The inconvenience of moving can be avoided. We needed some repairs in our washroom which they fixed promptly. All in all we like the resort. 3.5 to 4 stars

Simply Loved It!

This resort had such a warm and friendly environment. We stayed in the Ocean Front Superior room. So clean. The buffet area is beautiful and the food is great, We certainly did not go hungry. The pool area for the kids was amazing and the bigger pool was fantastic. Our favorite al a Carte was the Italian. My husband is Italian and a very picky eater. We went twice. Loved it. We cannot say enough about the staff. They were very attentive and polite. I highly would recommend this resort.

Very nice resort!

The grounds at this huge hotel were spectacular! I loved the beach the best, great for a long walk, sand was soft to walk on and not hot, and not too much seaweed in this area! There were waves every day and the kids loved that! Lots of places to eat besides the buffet, and we always found something we liked! Good week away

A lot of positives: incredible beach, nice staff, nice hotel, good a la cartes (especially the Italian and Japanese). A few negatives: lunch and dinner buffet (breakfast is good), overly pushy condo sales team and excursion reps at the beach and pool. Tip the staff and you will have no problems. Fresh towels, room upgrade, great service. Very nice people.

Amazing Resort

Very well designed with excellent landscaping. Beach areas spacious and sandy. Waters calm and worm. Many pools with lots of activities. Large theatre and many shows. Fresh foods with variety in Buffet and restaurants(Sea food , steak, Mexican). Clean room and very good room service.Nice staff all around.

Just an amazing hotel. I enjoyed the every moment of my stay. Clean hotel, good food, beautiful beach, great pools, fantastic night shows and very good service. I consider it the 5 stars of the 4 stars. You get a lot of bang for your buck

Not impressed

The beaches were stunning, strong currents so had to be cautious when going in water. The resort it self was certainly disappointing. Had an upgraded room and have no idea what was upgraded. Water trickled out of shower. More pressure in the sink tap. Beach towels and room towels were an issue, never knew if you would get them. Fridge never stocked from day to day.
