The grounds are amazing!

The best feature of Melia's Las Antillas are outside the hotel itself. A shark pond encircling the pool area is unique, attracting a lot of attention from guests. Little bridges connect all the land areas making for an attractive landscaping feature and good photo opportunities. The beach is good; lots of chairs and palapas, but get there early or they are taken for the day. Most rooms follow a standard layout. They are spacious, but the bathrooms are quite basic. Generally there are signs that maintenance needs to be improved - an elevator long out of service, many missing tiles in the pool, several public toilets plugged. Having said all that, there are many positives. The staff, without exception, were very friendly and helpful. The evening shows, especially the magic acts and the water ballet, are definitely worth seeing. Also, since our flight home was in the evening, we appreciated the no-charge courtesy room available for showering and changing after check-out.

Nice Resort

We had the VIP Concierge service and stayed on the 5th floor of the main building. The view was beautiful. We could see the ocean from the front and back. The extras were a nice touch. Rooms are not fancy but they are very clean. There's plenty of room, with a sitting area, TV and a balcony. The cleaning staff and Concierge will ensure all your needs are met. The buffet is OK but the restaurants are very good. They also offer nice wines for a price. With our service, I had the lobster dinn [... read more]er which was fantastic. The beach is amazing. No need to reserve your chairs early, as there are plenty. The water is not deep and the waves are fun. The pool is huge but since we're beach people and never went into it. You can change your money at the resort. The CDN exchange rate was $0.714. Entertainment was very good but 3 days before we left, Fidel Castro passed away. That meant no music or entertainment for 9 days. The resort was quiet but that was ok. Vendors are at the lobby level every day. They've got some nice things and prices are reasonable. Vendors tend to change regularly. The people at the resort are nice and friendly. They work hard for little pay so tip well.

Nice resort

We liked this resort. Nice size, the rooms were clean and nice and the food was excellent. If looking for an adults only resort we would return. The only thing I would complain about is that we had to wait to check into our rooms. After a very early flight we just wanted to get to our room and relax.

Amazing resort

The first time I laid eyes on the buffet I knew we came to the right place. It was colourful, tasty, and a variety of different foods. More choices of vegetables to. And the best was the fish, love fish. The lobby was nice and big. The pool was nice and at this time of year it was warm. We love the beach. My husband and I always walk the beach after breakfast and it was nice to be able to walk on a beautiful long and clean beach. Being a diabetic I like to go bare feet and not step on or around  [... read more]seaweeds and other things.Our room was nice but maid could do a better job by actually cleaning the shelf over bed and the mirror over sink. They were never done. We had water leaking over the sink , had to get someone in to open ceiling up as the pipe to air conditioner had a build up of condensation. They did not come with flashlight so my husband stayed and helped the guy with our flashlight and my husband helped with fixing the problem. We came to this resort to celebrate my sister and her husbands 30th Wedding Anniversary and was happy to hear the resort treated them to champagne in their room and a romantic dinner. (Thanks to our travel agent Carole Williams) as I mention to her the reason why we were going. 😊 Being an older resort some renovating could be done. There are a couple of things they should improve on #1 at resort, is turn on outside lights by the rooms around the time when people are leaving with luggage early in mornings not everyone has good eyes and i worry about seniors falling. #2, at the airport speed up the incoming line going through those customs doors. We had a early flight into Cuba from Toronto, tired and had to wait in a hour line. Not sure why it takes so long to look at passports and paper we had to fill out. Then go through those doors to another long line to put carry ons and other belongings on conveyors to get scanned. Then wait for our bus to take us to resort. over all we did have a great time at this resort? We also went into Havana and had a great time touring there.

Good time. Awesome beach !

Had a great time. Food was cuba good and no issues at all with it. Staff was unbelievably friendly and kind. This was my 4th trip to Cuba in 2 years so I have a bit to compare to. Hotel is a very small resort and everything and everyone was close by. I liked that. No walking for miles to get breakfast ! Hotel was rated a 4.5 star... Well maybe more like a 4 ! Rooms where big and comfortable but very run down and old. Was livable and we managed fine ! Very much worth the price we paid !

Resort grounds Amazing

The grounds are amazing. The beach was wide, clean, great sand, amazing waves. Start every morning with a walk as long as you want on the beach. Staff was very friendly at every restaurant and bar. Quick friendly service. Rooms were fine. Bed was king size and comfortable. Our shower needed repair, but in a group of 12 we were the only one with a problem. Very close by cab to the town of Varadaro where you can visit the market and a great outdoor bar named The Beatles. What a blast.

Great Resort

Overall, this hotel met our needs for a quiet 5 day getaway. The grounds are very pretty with so many healthy palm trees and well lit paths. The surrounding mote is kind of neat with the fish and shark (yes, shark). It gets a little smelly at times, but doesn't last long (sulphur smell). The layout is great and lots of chairs and shade around the pool. The room was spacious and always kept very clean, but the bathroom fixtures could use some updating. The bathtub with shower curtain was mo [... read more]st annoying since the curtain was mounted too close to the shower head, so impossible to keep the curtain from touching my body. The service in the bars and buffet restaurant was top notch. We didn't partake in any a la carts, so can't comment on those. Never once felt the need to tip, and when I did tip it was acknowledged with great appreciation. Lots of selection in the buffet, with a cheese and deli meat table, breads, veggie salads, pickled salads and cold seafood. There was a pasta station, pizza station, fish grill, and carving station, plus many hot food choices. Outside was another grilling station for beef, chicken, turkey and pork. The beach is fantastic and the water was very warm this time of year. Only complaint here would be that the 'beach bar' isn't actually on the beach - it's up in behind some trees between the resort and the beach.

Very Nice

Very well located - 15 minutes out of Varadero. Resort is becoming dated but clean and well maintained. Food was over expectations. Staff, as expected, genuinely friendly and cordial. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Amazing resort

We have visited this resort Sep.23-30, 2016. Checked in without delay. Have got room in block 6700 the first from the beach. Ground/landscaping very good maintained. Room was clean not a five star but everything was functional. Amazing with sand beach well maintained. No problem with beach towels. Three restaurants were to visit.(Cuban, Italian, European cuisines). Main for every day restaurant had air conditions with dissent varieties of food and clean. Staff was very respectful.

Beautiful Hotel

The hotel was very beautiful, I was impressed. The grounds were gorgeous, meticulous. The pool was nice, but I personally love the ocean. Veradero Beach is in the top of best beaches in the world! Loved the room, cute, little step down living room. Liked the vanity outside of the washroom, great maid service. Excellent coffee at the Lobby cafe!!! Bought some to take home. Good Holiday!

Older hotel and needs some upgrades and maintenance which they are working on. We had a great room in the main building; close to the restaurants and coffee bar. Fantastic beach - very clean clear warm water. Be aware; smoking is allowed in pretty much any out door area and we found this great for us and from the looks of it many other appreciated the freedom to smoke. Food is a bit of a shock; really weird items on the buffet; but once we found what we liked it was fantastic! Weird that y [... read more]ou could only get beer in the buffet - no mixed drinks; no coffee other than at breakfast; I guess they want you to use the coffee bar. Lots of pool and beach chairs; but as usual there were towel hogs; one thing that we noticed is that some people hogged chairs at the beach and the pool - come on; let some one else have a chair - you don't use 2 at a time. All in all we met some great staff and had a great time.

Not terrible

I've been to this resort this August and must say its not terrible. It's adult only, so it's nice and quiet. Food was well cooked, but not so many choices, which is to be expected in Cuba. The beach was beautiful, long and wide however they did not clean it everyday and this means we could find cigarettes buds, plastic glasses, small garbage on the beach. Although my cleaning lady was super nice, I do think that the cleaning could of been better. Show was surprisingly good considering, you could see those same dancers go on for an hour without almost any break, that was impressive. Overall, good for the price you pay.

Amazing beach & ocean *

The hotel itself was OK,but need to be updated...the room was comfortable and clean.The food was not the best,but loots of variety....service can be better ~ lot of them don't speak English....nightly entertainment very good. But when I saw the beach and ocean ..beautiful white sand ,clean, turquoise and warm water I forget all of that and enjoyed my days. Thank you Gina Kiriakopoulos . x

Plus average resort

The location of the hotel is good, distance from the sea, about the right. building is clean but old. elevator need to be repaired. several times we walked to reach upper levels, while my wife is suffering from leg joint problem. all the people serving the hotel are very friendly. at reception, at bar, in restaurants, and buffet. the entertainment programs were very good. dancers were amazing.I personally enjoyed them. but I was sad about one thing, their socks were teared off. the dancers nee [... read more]d to have better and new cloths. drinks were good available any time. food in buffet had average quality, while the behavior of the servers were excellent. If you want to get more customer you need to invest on followings: 1- arrange slideshow about history and geography of Cuba. this could be an outdoor program. 2- arrange a program (class room) to teach people about food by getting help from a nutritionist. 3- arrange out door exercise. Would go back and would recommend

For those of you not keen on knowing the details of my stay let me say that I throughly enjoyed my stay at Melia Las Antillas, will likely stay again and would recommend it to others. For those of you interested in more details... SERVICE: The service is good, particularity at the buffet and a la carte restaurants. I was impressed with the service in these areas. The service at the outdoor bars was okay, but nothing great. The service at the main indoor lobby bar was also mediocre. ROOMS: Our room was extremely clean and well taken care of. No issues with bugs or dirt of anything of that sort. Martha was great. I wouldn't say the rooms are dated, but a few updates wouldn't hurt...however, when I'm on vacation I don't worry about my room as long as it's comfortable. The AC works extremely well, so well in fact we had to turn it off at night, and considering we travelled in mid August a strong AC was appreciated. FOOD: I've been to Cuba before and stayed at a Melia that time as well, and the food at this hotel was much better. The buffet food was very good considering my expectations were low. There is a good selection of food, and if you eat seafood like my mother and I do you'll be pleased. If you don't...there's still a decent selection of items. For our a la carte dinners we went to Conuco and the Italian restaurant Both were good, but Conuco being outside in August was relatively painful. The mosquitos had a feast We should have thought about that before we booked though. The bbq area by the beach is good for a quick lunch if you don't want to go back to the buffet and leave the beach or if you're hungry at a time when the buffet isn't open. BEACH/POOL: Awesome. Lots of chairs at both locations (but we did go at off season). Both locations are well kept with absolutely no garbage or anything of that sort in sight. They play music in both areas but it isn't overbearing - perfect volume to relax to. The beach is gorgeous and is where we spent most of our time, you can paddle board or go on a catamaran free of charge, but we did always tip, both are a great experience. It's honestly picturesque. EXCURSIONS: We took the day trip into Havana - it's a must do. We booked with Sunwing when we arrived, it's 59 CUC. We took the double decker bus into downtown Varadero - also a must do. However...do NOT get on the bus if it's heading the opposite direction (like we did after being encouraged to do so by the driver). If you do you will be taken to every single hotel on the strip and stop at every one to see if there's passengers waiting, a 15 minute ride ending up taking 90 minutes. It was a nice tour, but completely unnecessary. It costs 5 CUC to ride it all day. SOME ISSUES: The lobby isn't air conditioned, nor is any other area in the hotel other than the restaurants and hotel rooms. This is an issue in the summer, and unfortunately we found ourselves going back to our room early to escape the heat. Bring bug spray. They seem to not be bad during the day but they make up for it at night. The coffee at the buffet is awful. Be sure to get your coffee from the main bar lobby. It's amazing! Other than that I have no complaints whatsoever. As I said earlier, my stay was great, I'd stay again and will recommend!

Average

The food was average, the cleanliness as expected but they never cleaned the bathtub or sink the whole time I was there. Grounds were fabulous, pool outstanding, too far to the beach. The beach however was amazing as were the activities on the beach.

Sunwing Supersaver Room

I just returned from Melia Las Antillas,stayed week of July 25 to August 1st. My first response to this hotel was just average. After a day, it didnt seem that bad. Grounds were very nice, great pool, sparkling clean. Staff were always cleaning everywhere. The stafff were amazing, very friendly, always smiling and helpful at all times.The beach is a 10! Again 1st day I was not impressed, but felt better about the food as the week went on. Check in was very good, only 1 bus arriving at 8pm, quite organized. Exchanged currency then at front desk, 100cad gave me 70CUC. There is also a currency desk opened the following morning.Tips are shared between waiters and dish washers.. I enjoyed leaving nail polish, jewellery items, also gave dis razors, bandads, hairbands, ect., bungee cords and duck tape for the chair guy at the beach. I flew with Sunwing, all good, actually left 40 min early on return flight. My room with Sunwing was a supersaver suite, had king bed as requested and 2nd floor. I was travelling as a solo female, had room not far from lobby, close to al acartes and buffett.. Short walk to pool and beach. The room was very basic, clean, great AC. The view was non exsistant, looked over lower level buffett restaurant and entertainment terrace off lobby. but the live music was only before dinner and ended about 9pm. Upgrades to bungalow or 4 or 5th floor were costly, did not feel it was worth it. People said the extra services were nonexistant, just newer rooms with view because you were higher, you could see the ocean. but pool and ocean were quite distant, so view was not that great. All in all, I found initially this resort did not impress me, but after a day or so, not that bad. I booked late and prices had just increased by 200 the day before I booked( due to only 6 seats left on flight). As single, I paid 1665cad for the week. so this was quite high, compared to other places I have stayed 5* for less $$, but this was due to not booking earlier, and I wanted to try Cuba again.

Beautiful Resort...beautiful people

The hotel is open and breezy with wonderful gardens. The pond houses fish and sand sharks who come to the surface to say hi (more likely for food). The food was good...lots of variety for us. The fresh fish station was amazing and we used it daily. The rooms were very clean and well stocked. If you needed anything, you just had to ask. We met so many people who treated us with respect and consideration. I like to think that we returned the respect to them. Melina Las Antillas resort

This resort was renovated. Rooms are good size. Grounds, floors are clean. Beach, pools are also clean. Services are good. Particularly the food and beverage manager. This is the first time I met him. I can see him working hard, has good customer skills. Staffs are very friendly. I would hardly recommend it to my friends.

Lovely Resort

This is a well kept adult resort. While not lavish it is tastefully designed and the grounds are meticulous. It is clean and the pool is fantastic, as is the beach. Some of the staff are outgoing but not all.
