Excellent Resort- Adult only

I like the service/staff were wonderful, Grounds kept very clean/, Beach was good/Food was great then any place I have being in other Cuba resorts/some rooms were renovated but still need to work on rooms/ Great Adult resort/ close to Markets/Pools were clean. Restaurants were clean. Bars were just great and available great service.

Mediocre

Still updating the resort. Not enough snack foods and nothing open past 9:30 for food at night. Said bottle of water daily but did not happen. I feel the safe should be included in Roc Plus. Said plus seating at buffet...nope. Staff were extremely rude especially front desk and bartenders!!! Food was ok but never hot. Not near enough chairs at pool or beach. people entered your room thru out the day without permission!! People came to dinner in bathing suits. Great hotel

The staff very helpful. The food was great very secure resort.Beautiful beach. Great location near Varadero . You can walk to flea market and dine at good restaurant near the resort. Adult only made a big difference met some great people

Convenient, friendly resort

The beach is incredible. The pool area was good. The lack of lounge chairs is a bit frustrating but not enough to ruin a stay. Food was very good. Staff is very friendly. Rooms were comfortable, even the non renovated ones. No complaints.

Very Pleased and we'll be back

Hotel is nothing super.fancy but it has everything you need. Rooms are.basic but clean and functional. Shower water pressure was low but at least we could have a hot shower. Food was really good actually and taste. Al la cartes were excellent especially the Mexican. All the staff were super friendly and always served you with a smile. Adults only is a nice part of the resort as is that it's not too big and location is perfect.

Good Value and Positive Atmosphere

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barlovento. It is one of the older all inclusive resorts in Veradero but it was well managed, quite clean and reasonably well maintained. It is situated on the western edge of town and allowed us to walk through the community. There are daily afternoon games and evening entertainment adjacent the pool and on stage. As well, there is evening musical performances in the lobby/lounge are featuring local musicians. The beach is great and there is bar  [... read more]service on the beach. The staff is friendly and it is evident they enjoy working there.

The price was right.

A few of the rooms have been renovated but not all of them. The important thing is that they are clean. Our maid did a wonderful job of keeping them neat and clean everyday. I did like the size of the resort, with everything being quite close. They do need a lot more loungers. There are not that many and half are in terrible shape. The food is typical Cuban food. The exact same things at the buffet for two weeks straight. Almost all of it was not good.There was a line up for the spaghetti everyd [... read more]ay and it was lousy. The ice cream and breads are wonderful but the desserts look great and taste like cardboard.

Excellent Resort

We had a very good time, dining was clean - food was fresh and very good. The grounds were very well kept. Rooms were spacious and maid service was very good. Lobby bar was excellent congrats to the bartenders for mixing excellent tasty drinks. The coffee bar in lobby area made very good coffee the best I've tasted so far. The reception area staff spoke good english and tried their very best to please everyone. Barlovento, overall very good vacation

grounds well kept, public w/rms often no TP, pools 3,excellent, clean., great beach , never cleaned in my 11 days beach towels great size,thick. Food, better than average for Cuba, enough choices,[ never relish at the 4 places been to. ], dressings and condiments at lunch, never at dinner. Check in, excellent, got Rm 102 facing pool as requested.[due to a mobility issue walking long distances and doing stairs] Bars, great as always, 24 hrs..Staff, warm, friendly, helpful.

Wonderful resort

The people are wonderful (as usual for Cuba), the ocean was great (little hill to get out of ocean) the main swimming pool was very clean, I enjoyed the other pool but not as well maintained - food was salty but great choice (first time I saw peanut butter) the room was as cuban hotel room - maintenance was great (any problem they were there) the animals were therapy - LOVED THEM - I would recommend this hotel

Amazing

everything was great.freindly staff.the only thing missing was a bar closer to the beach.hotdogs and hamburgers at the beach for lunch would make more sense instead of a big buffet. having been to Cuba 7 time. i would definitely say i would want to go back again.

Resort was under complete construction

resort was under complete construction but the future looks promising the newly done rooms are far better because of the heavy rains we had it made it akward to get around especial to the eating area because main dining room was closed

Needs some renos and upkeep.

Great location for walking around Varadero. Rooms and Food Fair. Staff very courteous and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms need updating. Pool clean. Would prefer bar closer to pool. Afternoon and evening entertainment good. Would pay a little more to get better rating. .

Amazing beach

Rooms were comfortable enough, food was not so good, pools looked good for those who don't go into the ocean. Grounds were well maintained. Staff were friendly enough. I recommend the Cuban restaurant for on Resort the Mexican not so much, never tried the Italian. Good Pizza's just off the resort very reasonable.

Adult only resort -fabulous beach -great price!

Pros Adults only... Not a party crowd Spectacular very clean beach... The best we have had in Varadero. Located right in Varadero... But very peaceful PRICE!!!! if you're staying at the far tip of the peninsula, its a 25 dollar taxi ride just to get to town and another $25 to get back. At this resort you were already in town. The staff especially Senor Juan, the manager are great! The nightly entertainment by the 5 beautiful girl & boy dancers was incredible. Make sure you join the salsa lesson  [... read more]on Friday afternoon with a live band and all the dancers. Cozy- only 200+ rooms Very very safe. We are foodies and thought the food was good. But in Cuba you have to pick and choose. The Fish at Cuban restaurant was 5* and Tacos at Mexican were good but you had to add lettuce & tomatoes from salad bar to tacos. Bar b q chicken, porc was 5 *. All the food is fresh, never frozen and 100% organic. Con's: Fellow tourists from Ontario that are soooo rude!! Everyone from Quebec, Marritimes and Prairies were great! Beach chair & pool chair shortage. I guess some rooms need help but we lucked out. Our room was great: clean, pillows and matress were comfy, great AC and maid kept it spotless. TIPS Bring your own beach towel, as you only great a fresh one 3 times a week. Fill up you water bottle at the bars Get coffee at coffee bar and take to restaurants as needed. Get fresh limes from town or hotel bar and squeeze onto fish, salads porc chicken. Take fresh fruit from buffet to bars and ask for fresh fruit + alcohol cocktail. If no bar b q at lunch - make a sandwich. If you are a wine person - bring some bottles down with you. Cubana Air let's you take TWO 23 kg bags from Toronto EACH! When ever you change $ in Cuba ask for a receipt and count the money. Use room safe. If you walk on ANY Carribean beach after dusk you will be bitten by sand fleas. In the Carribean never leave open or left over food or glasses from sugary drinks in your room you will get get bug visitors. Go out to the clubs, but ask the youngest staff member which one that night. Go for a sunset ride in a 57 Cadillac convertible... You will feel like a movie star! Treat Cubans with a little respect and you will have a great holiday. Yes, we will return to Barlovento. Our cred: 15 Carribean holidays over 25 years. 3.5- 4.5 stars.

Average hotel

The hotel was an average hotel- nothing fancy or pretentious, it was what we wanted.The staff were friendly, our room was cleaned daily and we had no issues. Well the patio door didn't lock but that was ok because we were on the third floor facing the tennis courts. The few negatives were- the beds were rock hard and after the first night we got used to it. The pillow was really flat but the maid Nurian brought extras when we asked. The buffet was the same everyday- for every meal. It became ted [... read more]ious after 5 days. The only other issue we had was the other hotel guests. Our fellow Canadians from Quebec were at times- well almost all the time extremely loud and inconsiderate. We had several across the hall and on the same floor that would stand in the hall and talk very loudly at 2 or 3 in the morning. They would slam their doors at all hours. Hogged several palapas at the beach and pool chairs at the same time. The hotel can use more umbrellas and chairs around the pool for sure. The hotel is located in the best position, close to several large markets and restaurants etc. There are 3 employees that stand out for us! At the Mexican and Italian a la cartes. Ernesto, Mongo and Eddie! They made eating there so much fun and are wonderful people. The Mexican was by far the best and a much welcome change from the buffet. I would not return to this resort as the buffet was not the greatest for us. It just became to much to eat the exact same items everyday. I did not take this into account when I chose a smaller resort. Small resort =small buffet. Defintely food for thought.

Fourth time to Cuba, 1st time staying at the ROC..

It has probably the best beach in Cuba. AMAZING!!!!!! as for the resort, very outdated, pool loungers scarce and next to no shade. Beds were comfy, and room relatively clean. A/C worked great. Staff definitely pleasant and always willing to help. Food (well it's Cuba) same thing every night. Breakfast of course being the best. Biggest issue was a pack of homeless dogs who hung around. Woke us up every morning barking. As long as you go with no expectations this resort is fine.

Good resort, old but beautiful.

good beach, good location in town, rooms clean. The new Vintage bar which only opens on Saturday and Sunday is the best on the Island. Classy premium drinks at minimum cost served by a gentleman, Javier. 4th time at this hotel, 15th time in Cuba.

Ok hotel - but had a good time

When you have stayed at really nice resorts the bar gets raised, and unfortunately every other vacation gets measured up against the best you've had. With that having been said, this resort didn't come to close to being one of the better ones , however we did in the end make the best of it and actually had pretty good time. If it hadn't been so close to the town of Veradero I think it would have been otherwise. Decent food and friendly environment!

Location of this resort is fantastic - it's easy walk to markets, the downtown and the hop on and off bus. The food was quite good and no complaints overall. The pools and the beach are well maintained and clean. Rooms are dated but in the process of being renewed. Having been to other resorts, we came here not expecting too much, but were very pleasantly surprised, and might actually come again.
