Cold shower and not so good food

The hotel was ok . The rooms are ok but dated , changed rooms after 3 days of cold showers . Food was not very god but always found something to eat though and the breads are always good. Renovating the theater so shows were in the lobby ( worst shows I ever been to at a resort ). Beach is beautiful , nothing fancy about the pool. I would only rate this resort as a 3 star . I have been to many resorts in Cuba that I would go back to but definitely not this one .

Way to Go

The physical infrastructure is very nice; they are already renovating the buildings; having the Transat rep on site helped save us a prebooked tour; was blown away by the professional entertainment every night; genuinely friendly and accommodating staff;no issues till very last day; omelette bar was serving heavily cracked eggs with chicken excrement and blood on many eggs; this is a Public Health violation; cracked eggs and raw chicken are automatically considered to be contaminated with Salmon [... read more]ella bacteria; it can kill immunocompromised people in infants and seniors and make you very ill; Salmonella typhi is Typhoid Fever; one of many strains of this bacterium; I told the chef behind the counter but he didn't speak English; also advised the resort manager on duty before we left for the airport; will be following up with Public Health Agency; I am a Public Health Inspector/Supervisor with 40 years experience in Toronto/Durham Region.

Not bad

Some good - some bad

The resort is undergoing a lot of construction - which is good. But there were things that were not good and had nothing to do with construction. Usually we always had to call and ask for more water - they are supposed to deliver water everyday - but that did not happen. This also happened with the other beverages as well.. Ok Resort

Hotel was average. Did not get rooms adjoining as requested-adjoining room was under renovation. Did get 2 rooms next to each other. One room had a faulty electric panel so the lights and air conditioning would not stay on. There was no hot water in the same room. Staff were attentive about the matter however it was never fixed properly. The solution was to move one of the rooms only which was not acceptable to us. Bedding appeared stained and blankets were not clean-obvious signs of uncleanline [... read more]ss. Maids did not change sheets until we asked them to even though they were dirty. One room appeared to have black mold on the wall. Safe in one room did not work. A lot of broken glass on the grounds and many cigarette buts everywhere. Could have been more well kept overall. Cockroach found in one of our rooms-not impressed. No shade at all in the pool area. Shaded areas were nice on beach but not nearly enough for the demand. Swim up bar drinks were very poor quality. To get a decent beverage you had to go to the main lobby which was a far distance. Snack bar food was very poor quality and most times did not have food available. Evening entertainment was poor and the entertainment center was closed down all week.

Excellent time

The hotel had everything we wanted for our vacation: great service, good food, excellent amenities ... I can't say enough about the Cuban people that worked there; they were amazing. I would go back there again, and would recommend it to families and adults-only guests. .

Would Not Change Anything!!!

First I would like to thank Teresa Gates at tripcentral for being very professional and recommending the perfect resort for me and my fiancé. This was not my first time to Cuba and like always the Cuban people were very inviting. From the day that booked our trip over the phone with Teresa, till the day we landed back in Canada after our trip EVERYTHING ran smoothly. I honestly would not change anything about the resort or experience we had while booking or on vacation. A good bang for the buck

Overall a very decent resort. Very good food for our standards, decent room, amazing beach and relatively friendly service. Resort is clean with the exception of the lobby washroom which could use some overhaul; for example: some urinals don't work, most of the time there is no paper towel, several times there was no soap and usually about half of the stalls don't have toilet paper. Besides the lobby washrooms, the whole experience in general was quite plesent. I would recommend this resort.

Would recommend!

We just returned from a one week stay with our two children ages 10 & 12. The staff were amazing! Always greeted with a warm smile and willing to help. (The lady making the breakfast omelets was so sweet!) Beach was beautiful spent most of our time there. Lots of palapa and loungers. The food was okay (we didn’t go hungry or get sick). Beautiful Resort

Rooms were clean and comfortable, Loved the pool area , lots of fun , beautiful beach love love love the Ocean.!! The staff were very friendly , would definitely recommend this resort , very family friendly

Great staff

The staff are amazing .. it s a bit dated but you can see them working on it to upgrade it , the buffet was not great but the pool snack bar was awesome and the staff could not do enough for you there . The bed are not very comfortable at all ... they are too hard, If there were issues the main desk tried to help but it was slow. we did get Locked out of the room because the mechanism to put your card in would not open the door . TERRIBLE. WILL NEVER RETURN.

This is our 4th stay at this resort and the last. Check in took an hour because there is only one person at reception after 9PM. Our room was newly painted and the washroom was renovated. There were no pictures on the walls, no shades on the lamps, no paper and pencil on the table, no information sheet about the resort or the list of telephone extensions ,no coffee makers or coffee. There are 2 washrooms near the lobby that serve the buffet restaurant, the lobby bar and the lobby.They needed work 4 years ago but nothing has been done. They were not clean,and there were no paper towels or hand dryers.In the men's washroom 3 of 5 urinals were out of service.The day after our arrival both washrooms were closed and were still closed when we left 5 days later. Food was ok but very little selection at the buffet. I learned from someone in the know that Hurricane Irma destroyed fruit, vegetable,coffee and tobacco crops. Staff was courteous but not as warm when meeting people on the main walk...no greeting of any kind. Basically I would be generous to rate this resort a 3 star.

Amazing resort

We had beautiful weather,food was good,staff friendly and helpful. The resort was perfect not to big not to small. I would definitely go their again . We took the local bus to into town a few time good restaurants, markets. Shopping

Never again!

This is our second visit to this resort and it will definitely be our last. We don't expect GREAT food when we come to Cuba, but we do expect EDIBLE food. The food was terrible! The fruit was barely ripe, most of the tomatoes were green, where there were any available. Salad fixings were always hit or miss. The meat was overcooked and tasteless. Ordering drinks from the wandering wait staff was an exercise in patience. It could be 15-20 minutes to get a drink, if they even came back at all. After tired of waiting at one point I went to the bar myself only to find that the guy that had taken my order was now behind the bar making drinks and not serving at all. When you did get a drink, it was questionable if there was any alcohol in it. We found out after a few days that if you wanted rum in your pina colada you had to ask specifically for rum. The same drink served 3 times would be completely different each time. Very bizarre! After a couple of days at this resort we were trying to find a way home early.So long Cuba! Never again.

Great resort

This hotel was very clean. The food was above fine. The staff were all very kind and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to my friends. We had a week in January and our trip was fun and relaxing.

Good overall value!

This resort was good overall with a few glitches here and there. Upon arrival around noon, we were told our room wouldn't be available until after 4. This was a common occurrence as throughout the week, the lobby was full of weary travellers crashed on sofas waiting for hours on end for rooms.It killed the first day of our vacation. Once settled in the room, it was quaint and clean. The resort grounds were lovely, well manicured. There was minimal residual damage from hurricane Irma. With only one bar to handle to crowds in the lobby, it was extremely difficult to get a drink. The beach was beautiful and could not disappoint! You can walk for hours in either direction. The main buffet was decent, had some great food and some not so great food. omelets were excellent in the mornings and I was delighted they had delicious bacon. The problem with the buffet is it is very very noisy with the clattering of plates and people. Most food is not very warm, unless you get something cooked fresh off the grill. Evening dinners in the buffet often featured a large roast which was always good. lots of fish available as well. I highly recommend the beach restaurant for lunch. fresh grilled meats and fish in a quiet peaceful setting. Much nicer thatn the busy buffet and you get a view of the ocean. I ate lunch here most days. The snackbar at the pool was good but terrible busy. The pool itself was lovely, not very warm and there is no shade anywhere. I ate at 3 a la carte restaurants: Japanese, very fun and good, the Italian, very good, and the French, it was the best! the beef was incredible and was served under a silver dome. WE did one excursion to Havanna. I was told it was a 2 hour drive, and it is 140 kms BUT....bus took forever to pick up many guests from other hotels which made it 3.5 hrs to havanna from the time we boarded. the bus toilet was out of service. guide did make a washroom break en route. A few of the minor complaints at this resort are: - poor check in -not enough bartenders (lobby and beach had huge lineups) - room fridge was stocked daily with water, but rarely beer -over crowded lobby for evening entertainment -no shade at pool

One of the better ones so far

We stayed from Jan 12th to Jan 19th 2018. Again, the people make the difference. This was our 7th visit to Cuba never staying at the same resort twice and will return again. As always the people are friendly and helpful and you can go anywhere at anytime and not feel intimidated or fearful. The Hotel received minimal damage from the recent hurricane with just two of the fountains not working and the theater was closed due to some main overhead permanent tarpaulin damage. The entertainment didn't [... read more] stop though, they just moved it to the main lobby of the hotel and as usual was great to watch. No reason to go hungry here, the food was really good with a lot of options. Grounds were kept clean and free from garbage left by late party goers. Weather wasn't the best but we used the sun free cooler days to go into Habana and Varadero. Closest stroll yet to the Hop on Hop off bus, it almost stops at front doors. Main swim up bar was great and the whole area kept clean and has amazing bar staff. Rooms were cleaned everyday with a fresh bottled water and restocked bar fridge by the time we returned from breakfast. Would certainly consider staying here again but we have a few more to check out first. If this resort doesn't meet your standards then your travelling to the wrong country and are a little high maintenance....remember where you are.

A Nice Getaway for a Good Price

Melia Peninsula Varadero Overall, this was a very nice resort with very friendly and helpful staff. I would visit this resort again. It was cold the first week of January, so people couldn't enjoy the beach and other outdoor activities. It would have been nice if the hotel had more rainy day activities for guests. They loved him. The in-house dancers and singers were good. I really liked the singers. The acrobats were excellent. Could be Better: - the ladies bathroom in the lobby was always smelly. It looked clean. Was it the plumbing? At the very least a good air freshener would help... or a really good cleaning, perhaps. - for us, it would be better if the buffet restaurant staff cooked the pork ingredients away from the non-pork ingredients. - the pool restaurant didn't have a lot of the menu items e.g. calamari, cheese sticks... just fries which were burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside - the Jacuzzi didn't look clean, I would have used it otherwise

No food

Walk up to buffet with a empty plate if you could get one and sit back at your table with a empty plate! One guy cooking eggs for the entire hotel for breakfast witch you were in a-line for 30 min. To 45 min.! Pealpe were so hungry when they replenished any items they acted like vultures.
