Ok Resort

Travelled to Club Amigo 6 times, I love the location and beach. However, there are seldom enough beach chairs, but lots of boom boxes screaming out songs from other guests with no consideration for others. We stayed at the Villa, which is quite an increase over the standard rooms. Two small towels, not changed daily, calls for restocking of toilet paper. I come on vacation to relax, no continually have to request what should be included. Food ran out at the different snack bars, sorry no egg [... read more]s, no coffee, no burgers, no fries, no pizza. No wonder they run out as people ordering for their 10 family members on the beach who do not have bracelets. As you wait your turn to be order, a group of Cubans come in and get waited on immediately after I’ve already waited 30 minutes 😞 Each day was a new struggle, no pina colada’s today, no margaritas today. Going on vacation should be relaxing, the daily foolishness just gets to be enough, will not be returning to this resort. It is a three star, however it’s more like a 1, over the years things have gone downhill.

Week at Club Amigo

it was fantastic depend what's you want do ,arrived at hotel it was busy not enough room so they give us suite for free, really good 2 little beach ,1big the site is big so if feel party or quiet you got choose snockling by yourselve free bycicle ,people was really friendly We will go back there next year

Club aamigo is so so

hotel is just ok beach is smallish still cannot believe a mohito was hard to get-! :( staff are good but few in number. things to do were unavailable like billiards after 5 pm price for it was good however i'd paid more for Brisas , next door, which i did on another trip. rooms not ready upin arrival was expected but a hassle nevertheless. to get a beer outdoors after 5pm was not possible, a la carte are great and the breakfast s are always healthy

This is a great resort!!

This is my 5th time in Cuba, and my 1st time in Holguin. I typically stay in 3.5-4 star resorts. This is a great hotel with very friendly service. The grounds are spacious, and the accommodations are varied. We stayed in what are known as "The Barracks" by many of the guests at the resort who are regular patrons of the resort. This is considered a "standard room" (called "Garden View" on my ticket; although I think more than 80% of the rooms would qualify with this description because t [... read more]hey mostly seem to fit this description). Even though our room was a 10-minute walk to the lobby, it was actually quite close to a set of pools, the 24-hour bar, and, most importantly, the beach!!! There was quite a variety of bars, a la cartes, and there was even more than 1 buffet (which you don't find very often). The food was standard Cuban cuisine, including standard Cuban food quality. And as always, I always found something to eat, regardless of the time of day. The only negative part of my stay was actually the check-out (12:00 noon SHARP; PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE ACTUALLY AT THE LOBBY DESK CHECKING OUT AT OR BEFORE THIS TIME, NOT JUST LEAVING YOUR ROOM). A bus had arrived (with new guests) at the same time as I (and 40 others) were checking out. There was no organized filing system, and I spent 1/2 hour in the wrong line, coupled with the fact that many existing patrons were constantly jamming in line ahead of us. We actually had to use my favourite bartender to speak with some of the staff in order to get any service. By the time we reached a clerk, we were informed that we had to pay a late check-out fee (because it was now past 13:30. But it was not the standard fee for late check-out. It was only 5 CUC. This seemed like a bit of a shake-down, so we argued against it. After calling a couple of managers, the fee was waived. I truly enjoyed my holiday at this resort and would definitely return.

Not Near As Good Anymore

The service this year wasn’t near as pleasant as the past three years. The receptionists at the front desk were exceptionally rude. We’ve been to Club Amigo four times, but I will definitely not be returning again.

Good resort Good value

Large resort, always lots to do and see. Beautiful beach and some smaller beaches. There is a village not far, do yourself a favour and go to the village for lunch or dinner. 2 beers, 1 shrimp dinner, 1 fish dinner, total cost $ 4.00 . Yes, for everything. If you are a single traveller you will meet lots of new friends. Enjoy,

Bad Experience

First night I slept and woke up with a colony of red ants all over my bed and all over the hotel room floors. Next night woke up with a big cockroach waiting for me in the bathroom. Last but not least they ran out of beach towels and the public relations lady knew about the problem but decided to hide in her little cubical with her cockroach friends. Simply put I will never even go back to Club Amigo Amigo Atlantico in holguin Cuba ever.

Second time here

Although it seems the resort has gone down since the last time We were here, it was still a great expirence. They are renovating the older buildings, and they new ones look beautiful. Staff is lovely, food Is typical Cuban food but anyone can find something, beach is still the most beautiful And weather was fantastic. What more can you ask for. We will be going back again.

Great resort !!

I have been to this resort 3 times now. Amazing location lots of pools, snack bars, and bars. The beach is fantastic. Only complaint is the rooms. They definitely need to be renovated but honestly never spend time there so it’s not the end of the world. Everything else was amazing!!!

Will return

For the money, a great trip. Sure the resort is a bit dated, but all the staff were very friendly (and not fake friendly, but genuinely welcoming). Food is perfectly edible contrary to what I’ve heard about Cuban food. The resort is quite large so even if there’s a lot of people you don’t seem to notice because everyone isn’t packed on top of each other. We didn’t go there expecting a 5 star resort, and it’s not. But it has its charm and we can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful beach I always found something to eat. And when I didn’t like the buffet I went to the snack bar.

We stayed in the Villa section which I definitely recommend. Quieter than the other sections. The beach was wonderful the room was very nice. If you are looking for a quiet vacation this is not the place I found it very loud. The entertainment people were not the best. I was told to meet then one morning at 8:30 AM for a hike they never showed up and when they did they said it’s a bicycle activity they were doing that day I was not impressed. And when I didn’t like the buffet I went to the snack bar.The countryside is beautiful I went horseback riding with a guy named Michael he drives a buggy if you want to find him he took me to a cave which was incredible.

Beautiful Resort

Very clean resort, staff are very friendly and will help you with any questions. The grounds are kept clean and the beach is very spacious. With a few mini little beaches around the resort. I found the food good and was beyond the expectations I had. Never went a day hungry. Overall a 5☆ 7 night stay and will be returning.

Amazing Resort

I think the hotel is really good ,I loved my son enjoy the pool , the beach is beautiful!! The service was amazing everybody really gentle and lovely everything clean. I have a really nice honeymoon. We thinking to go again next year.

Ok, but have gotten more for less $ in the past

This resort is situated on a beautiful stretch of beach and had the most friendly and accommodating staff. We had a room in the tropical section and it was clean and had everything we needed, the bed was ok but the pillows are very thin. Our biggest issue came with the food, we are not foodies and have always been budget travelers so we are used to mediocre food. The food served on day one repeated for each day after that, same beef ordered in the al la cart was the same as the buffet but not cut up, right down to the sauce, the soup was beef noodle the entire week and the snack bars had only cheese sandwiches, hamburger and fries. Which is fine but you get sick of it fast. Never any pizza and not one single morsel of chicken anywhere on the resort the whole time :-O (not even in al la carts) it’s always my go too when the stinky fish turns me off.. not this time. We ended up going to the little shopping place next door a few times for better choices when we started to get hangry. I’d likely not come back here again unless I got it for a real cheap price to factor in eating off the resort in order to be content. You don’t realize how important a decent meal is when traveling until you don’t have one.

Another great stay!

This was my third time at this hotel and won't be my last. Gorgeous beaches and resort is nice too if you view it through the idea "I'm in Cuba." Grounds were clean, room was clean, and had hot water. It is not for people looking to be entertained. This is a resort to relax at. There are parties available on and around the resort but nothing extravagant. Buffet food was ok. Saw a lot of the same things everyday but I ate and was full. Went to one a la carte, I wasn't impressed and didnt try an [... read more]other. Staff was mostly friendly. They warm up to you as they see you more often. I stayed in a tropical room. Was close to everything. They had even given us an extra bed without asking. Tropical room was a bit rough but air worked and slept great. Can't wait for next holiday.

Good Value

the hotel grounds were kept to perfection. flowers every where and very clean no trash. the food at the buffet was better than Ok. the food in the la a carte restruants was very good. the staff was friendly and helpful. the beaches and pools area very clean also. I was blown away by the value as per cost.

Good bang for your buck....

It's my 2nd time at this resort. 1st one was 10 years ago. I kinda knew what to expect, so nothing was a surprise to me. To keep it short, it's good decent hotel, obviously it's not a 5 star hotel, so if you expect to be pampered, don't. However, if you there to get away from everyday rat race and soak up the sun, you'll find it satisfactory. The main point is you going to get a good bang for your buck.

Enjoyed our stay

This hotel is great for a 3 Star Cuban vacation. Staff are very friendly, lots of options for dinner and lots of places to walk or bike to. Beach is beautiful but not a lot of shade for sitting there. Had a great two week vacation here. Rooms are always clean, but some are very old and need some repair work. We enjoyed the pool near the bungalows the best as it is quieter.

More Like Club "Buen Tiempo" Amigo

This is my second trip to Club Amigo. I went in 2011 and this year. I've been to Havana and Varedero in the past as well. The resort proper has improved considerably. We had a great time and would recommend it and go again. (We would not use the same tour package) It's a three and a half star resort (mostly because it is clean, safe and cheap). However, you get what you pay for so the food is passable but barely, the nightly entertainment is pretty good by half and the staff hit or miss. We  [... read more]had great maid service but passive aggressive bar service. It can be vice a versa so suck it up. What are you? Sinatra? The tipping will drive you up a wall as everyone has their hand out. Yes, it's how they make a living but still it can be annoying after seven days. You don't have to tip for every drink you get at the bar but you want the staff to see that you are appreciative for their service. So BE SEEN tipping or if you're making a night of it introduce yourself to the bartender and pass him a 10 spot for the night. You don't have to tip but you'll find it really screws with your karma. (Also the peso is now only in coin so unless you are willing to carry tons of change with you, you end up tipping the next currency up which is 3 pesos. Tricky. Figure on about 100 to 150 convertible pesos in tipping for the week.) The resort is clean (TIP your maid daily a peso or 2 and at the end) but the sink in our room leaked badly. Meh. We lived with it. The room isn't that important as you won't be in it much except for daily wardrobe changes and afternoon naps. (Oh, you'll nap.) If something should take five minutes to do, you can be assured the staff will find a way to to take 25 minutes. They pace themselves so you should too! Don't sweat the small stuff or you'll be miserable. The excursions through the resort are very good. Don't skip the "free" ones as they are often even better. They have fun stuff planned through the day (contests, games, dance lessons, exercise groups, etc.) but you have to be pro-active and most of it takes place in the main pool via the hotel. We rent a moped (rental office is off resort but nearby) and have a ball riding through Guardalavaca. Get it for 24 hours (it's the best value) and it will be safe in the resort over night. Walk the La Guanas Eco Nature Trail. It's 3 pesos for the most amazing views. Do the half day bus tour to Holguin with a tour guide. (You see and do more and you're home before it's too hot.) Don't give out "care packages" randomly or you will get swarmed and mobbed. It's not pleasant and things can get out of hand pretty fast. (If you're so inclined give to churches, schools and resort staff.) RESPECT the sun and worship responsibly or you can ruin your trip with hives, burns and sun flu. (The sun and free booze can be your friend or your worst nightmare. Juega seguro!) They have a lot of regulars at Club Amigo who swear by the resort and will be glad to fill you in on particulars and when the weather is perfect every day it's very hard not to enjoy yourself. Go to meals when they first open or the pickins will be sparse. (Check out the pizza place. It's not part of the resort but pizza is good and cheap! You'll wait an hour for it but it's worth it) Buy lots of bottled water for your room. Lots! The beach is gorgeous and the three pool areas are lovely. So like the song says, "Why don't you leave your cares and troubles behind and tell 'em your new address is where they stay up late and drink to their blind and fine but never the less their glad to see you in c-u-b-a"!
