TRULY A BEAUTIFUL TRIP

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel/trip. Maybe my only complaint is that it was over 30 degrees and sunny EVERY day. What a horrible thing! :) The staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and fridge was stalked everyday with beer and pop. Many times people say the food is not very good in Cuba but NOT at this place. Variety and flavor galore. The additional restaurants where a lovely touch with great food. Hamburger and French fries at the snack bar was always n [... read more]ice to nibble on in the day. And you can always find something at the buffet. Never found that they ran out of anything. The drinks...WOW! as many as you like and they were never cheap on the shots. The beach...what to say about that....it was spectacular. Turquois green water and soft white sand. Plenty of lounge chairs for everyone. Came home with a lovely tan and well rested. If you have a chance to go, I would highly recommend this place.

Good for families

Our visit to Fiesta Americana was our first family all-inclusive vacation. Thre were many positives to the resort - the pools and beach were lovely, and there were many options for places to find food and drinks. It is a very large resort and our building (47) was quite far from everything, but we planned ahead and packed everything we needed for the day. Activities: The kids especially loved the catamaran and pedal boats on the beach, and the calm shallow water was great for them. We only attended one evening show, the water ballet show, and it was very impressive. We did not use the kids club, it didn't seem as though anyone was ever there. Food: The buffet restaurant has somewhat limited choices but the food does seem fresh and properly kept and stored. The smaller breakfast buffet, which is located in the seafood restaurant but has as many choices as the main buffet, is much calmer and quieter. The omelettes there are awesome. The Italian a la carte has fabulous pizza for lunch, and a great dinner as well, but with 5 courses, the meal takes longer than most kids will have the patience for. We also tried the Asian and Mexican a la carte restaurants and they were also both pretty good. The taco bar is also great for lunch. We tried to go to the snack bar for lunch one day, but they had run out of food. The beach snack bar has lunch as well, but the 'hamburger' was a little suspect. It might have been made out of actual ham? Drinks: There are many bars to get drinks, and lots of options at all of them. The mojitos at the swim up bar closer to the beach are awesome! A few special staff really added to our experience: Cesar, the animacion coordinator, made a particularly great impression on the kids - he always made sure to say hi and see how we were doing. Eduardo, the bartender in the cigar bar, makes amazing pina coladas. Luis on the beach took us on a fantastic catamaran ride. All in all, as far as Cubas resorts go, I think this one was pretty good.

Clean, but worn out.

Our first impression was walking down the hall of our block. The ceiling tiles were stained and falling down in the hall and inside the room entrance. The room doors had been painted white over blue so the colour blue was bleeding through and looked terrible. The bathroom had 1970s tile still installed with many corners broken off. The tub had many layers of caulking around it as if no one ever removed the old before installing new. We were on the ground floor an the patio door wouldn't lock [... read more] because the metal opening for the latch was literally worn away from 25 years of use. Curtain rods were falling down and light fixtures were stained and broken. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean which made the week bearable. First night at the buffet was late and it was not good. It was dirty and several roaches were running around the floor. The food was not good at all. The a la carte restaurants made the food situation okay. Pools were nice and the beach was perfect. The grounds and sports facilities were not kept up. Water sports equipment was good and the guides on the catamarans were great. Overall we had a good time but pushing this as a 4 star is a false representation.

Crowded Resort

Formerly Blau Costa Verde, this Hotel recently added a few hundred rooms but unfortunately did not increase the dining facilities or staff to accommodate so many added guests. The a-la-carte restaurants (Asian, Cuban, Italian, and Mexican) no longer require reservations but are now on a first come first serve basis causing frequent lineups and wait times. The Buffet restaurant added some production but food quality and variety was at times impressive and other times disappointing. Super Friendly Atmosphere!

This was our first time in Cuba and we were not disappointed. Check in was smooth, and the welcome drinks were delicious! We knew that this resort was an older resort when we booked. It is clean, and we had no issues with our room. Our maid was amazing. Staff here are very friendly, and take the time to get to know you, which makes your days there feel like you're with people you know. The Buffet had lots of choices, and we tried a few of the a la cartes, the Italian and Asian being  [... read more]our favourites. The omelette stations are busy in the mornings, but well worth the wait. The Cuban coffee is a must have. If you are looking to hang out by the pool, this resort has two, and both are maintained well. The pool closer to the beach isn't as busy. The beach is great and you can snorkel by the coral. The shop by the bar has equipment if you don't bring your own. There are also paddle boats and you can catch a catamaran ride here as well. There is an animation staff that holds an Aqua Gym class every day at the beach. There is evening entertainment at this resort (we missed most of it as we were so tired from enjoying the great weather all day) that includes some children's entertainment as well. So if you are bringing kids they will be well entertained :) There are vendors that set up beside the Buffet restaurant every day, so if you are not inclined to leave the resort, you can still do some shopping. There is a market a 10 minute walk from the resort as well. We opted to do a late check out on our last day, and this process went smoothly. All in all we had a great time during our first trip to Cuba. We will definitely book at this resort again!

Wonderful!

This resort and the Cubans are beautiful. It offers a lot of options and its not jam packed. A lot of space to enjoy. It is clean and the food is good, there are many options. Always fresh fruit and vegetables, they will vary on season and supply. There is also a lot to do off resort excursions or on your own, it is a safe place. The staff and locals are very friendly and I recommend learning about and from them. To beach lovers, it can be a bit crowded at times lounging on the beach but th [... read more]ere is a little private beach close to the resort to enjoy most of the time on your own. The snorkeling is good, and there is lots of ocean life to see. To the tourists, be grateful to have the opportunity to visit this gorgeous country, be respectful, and drop any expectations of perfect at your door before you leave for the airport. You're going to another country, hopefully to enjoy yourself and take in another culture, not to criticize. Adapt. The Cubans work very hard 6 days a week catering to tourists so we may have a good time. If you are someone that seems to always attract black flies and reacts to the bites, they will eat you, bug repellent advised. It was the only bad thing for me, but it seems to happen anywhere I go. I have been to this resort 3 times in 10 years. The name has changed with some new additions but the feeling is the same.

Great Resort

Hotel was fantastic. Food and service was good. The buffets had a very wide variety and the a la cartes were delicious! Pools were great for the kids along with the daily kids clubs. The staff who ran the kids club were amazing with the kids. The beach was beautiful and a 2 min walk from the resort. The resort itself was the perfect size. It was big but not so big to the point where you couldn't walk to where you needed to go. Beach Beach Beach

We started our vacation Feb 18th for one week. Playa Pesquero beach, snokerling on shore was the best. We had awesome weather. Our room was 1204 superior, dated bathroom, couldn’t open the balcony, required full strength but the best bed I had in Cuba. New comfortable bed! Beach was extremely crowded between the palapas. Unfortunately no pizza all week due to flour shortage,no bread at times. The Ceviche lunch bar was the best! Tasty and large variety. Buffet was average. Relaxing resort!

I’ve been to Cuba many times and this was definitely one of my favourites! The food was the best I’ve had in Cuba. Variety of different cheeses, fresh fish including shrimps, pasta bar and more! Breakfast was the highlight of our stay! We would eat on the beach breakfast restaurant which had crepes with Nutella!! The employees were really nice and could all speak English really well! One day we even got a rum and cigar service and got a free bottle of rum and cigar! That was fun. There were many excursions to choose from as well. The drinks were great they even have top notch booze including absolute vodka and dark chocolate tequila! Bartenders were awesome, quick and really friendly!! The beach was where we stayed most of the trip! There are a few rocks, but not sharp at all and there are spots where you can walk in where there are no rocks! Overall I would definitely recommend and would go back :)

Great Resort

Had a great time at Fiesta Americana Costa Verde. The weather was beautiful, resort was very clean, staff was amazing, food good and lots of hot water. Any issues we had, which were very few, were resolved immediately. Having said that, the number of washrooms at the beach and newer pool area really need to be addressed as one small female washroom certainly is not sufficient for the number of people. Also, reservations for the specality resturants need to be put back in place as the lines u [... read more]ps are very long without them.

Not very good

This hotel was a big disappointment. I’ve been to the Fiesta American in Puerto Valerta and it was so much better. Even with keeping Cuba standards in mind, it was not very good. I had to upgrade to a newer room and it was a bit better. The food was not good. They are happy to announce you in the presentation that the à la carte restaurant is available for you every night and without reservation but what they don’t tell you is that you have to wait in line for sometime more then 1 hou [... read more]r. 1/2 the item on the menu are not available and the food is about as tasty as the one at the buffet. The beach and the pools are good. The animation during the day and at night is really low end. I would not return to this hotel.

Great Beach, Pools, Staff; Terrible food, rooms

Fiesta Americana resort was priorly known as Blau Costa Verde. We had a good experience with this resort in 2006. Thus our return visit. We were reassured by the fact of recent renovations and the addition of a large, second pool. The beach is still great, the pools nice and the staff friendly. However we had to change our room three times. All had run down, somewhat moldy bathrooms, old tubs and faucets, poorly designed curtains, and insects occasionally in the rooms. There were cracks in t [... read more]he tiling and walls. Two of the rooms the patio doors didn’t work properly. The worst was the power outage for 3 days in Block 6, no air conditioning and cold showers. Finally the admin “evicted” us all and moved us to different rooms. Our third room was a “deluxe” room which we were informed was a gift we should appreciate as we were getting it at no extra cost. The first night the toilet failed. For the following last 3 nights the air conditioning did not work. The final day I found hundreds of tiny brown ants in the room on a cough drop wrapper. Food: everything was out of a can except for the occasional chopped up half green tomatoes and cucumbers. There was no green salad. No fresh veggies. Canned corn, peas, beans, mushrooms, tomato sauce and pasta were featured at lunch and dinner. Fresh fish and omelettes were available but one had to stand in a long line. There was NO bread at lunch or dinner. Scrambled eggs swam in a watery vat. There was plenty of mystery meats and weiners for breakfast. But no bacon or toast. Occasionally there was chopped up watermelon (half green), pineapple and canned peaches. Oh I forgot the brown/black bananas! I was thrilled one day to find some chopped up apples in a creamy sauce at lunch. There was occasionally soft, poached chicken. The beef was tough and inedible. I resorted to eating some ground beef occasionally which had mixed in it green olives (from a can) and pickled onions (from a can). Hamburgers and French fries were only available outside at the snack bar at certain times of the day. One day we waited 45 minutes for this treat. The Seafood restaurant was the best bet. Only open at lunch, the grilled fish there was good. They advertised calamari, but it was only available once out of the 5 times we ate there over our 14 days at this resort. They also advertised fish tacos but also ran out of the tortilla shells. The lack of fresh vegetables and and orange juice not to mention the absence of bread or even potatoes at lunch and dinner was deplorable. The gym had NO free weights. A sparse Universal machine and a few cardio machines were all that was available. There were NO toilet facilities near the beach. It was a very long walk back behind the Seafood restaurant and then the ladies room was either locked or unavailable since there was only one toilet for hundreds of women at the large pool which was near the Seafoid restaurant. This was our second time at this resort and our 19th time in Cuba. This resort had the worst rooms and food we have ever experienced in Cuba. Yes the beds were comfortable (unusual for Cuba) but we need air conditioning in 30C weather. And it became very humid our last 5 days. The bars and drinks were good. The staff tries very hard. But we never received an apology or recompense for going 3 days without power or hot water in our second room. Oh I forgot! All the rooms are non-smoking. Our third room reeked of smoke from the previous occupants. It stunk all 3 days we were in it. Not a good environment for 2 guests such as we who are asthmatic.

Nice Resort!

This resort was quite large, a little larger than expected. While our room was very nice and I was told recently renovated, we were put in the farthest block from the main lobby taking about 10 minutes to walk to the front where everything is located and doing that 2-3 times a day was a bit tiring. The resort was very well landscaped and beautifully taken care of. The pools were both very nice although they are lacking enough chairs at the main pool, however the pool was well maintained. The ala carte restaurants were pretty good also, although not making reservations for these restaurants in advance can cause quite a lot of people showing up for dinner at the same time resulting in really long wait times for dinner. Overall it was a pretty good resort and we enjoyed our stay.

Great place

We just returned from the Fiesta and had a wonderful time Unfortunately our room was over the lobby bar. Very noisy at night, as the theatre is right beside, and people congregate at the lobby bar after the disco closes. We usually left the tv on low for white noise. This also has the most quiet air conditioner in all resort we have travelled to in the Caribbean. You have to get up early if you want a good chair on the beach, as people start reserving early. Beach is large so you get a chair n [... read more]o problem, but be aware the beach area is quite crowded. Also, there is lots of coral in the water, water shoes would help. You have to walk through some bare spots to get to deeper water. Lots of fish to see close by if you enjoy snorkeling. The food is good, a la crates very good, but long lines form after the first seating at 6PM. NO reservations. So you may have a long wait. Hotel staff is friendly.. bars and coffee service is excellent This is a very nice resort, but I would not return because of the coral in the water, as we like a sandy beach & water for swimming.

Beautiful week and a very relaxing girls trip!

Just got back from a girls trip on Saturday. The weather last week (February 10th-16th) was absolutely beautiful! 30+ all week. Overall our stay was great and it was a relaxing trip. Some main things I noticed: • Beach: The beach is super close which is nice! Lots of lounge chairs. The negative is that we got eaten alive the first few days by sand fleas and they were super itchy at night. The beach bar is great and super friendly. There is quite a bit of rock on the beach so be careful with  [... read more]kids etc. But once you get out far enough it is fine. •Pool: We mainly hungout by the “adult” pool all week and it was great. Not to busy and lots of chairs. The bartenders at the swim up pool are also great. • Food: The food is actually better then we anticipated. The buffet is quite simple and standard but you don’t starve and we always found something to eat. I would say pasta and rice is going to be your staple at this resort. No bread or milk this week due to shortage. Also they had no ketchup at the snack bar. The snack bar was horribly slow for service but I know they were busy. 1 hour + wait to get a hotdog and fries. The service was also very spotty and most times we didn’t even get our drinks we ordered and had to up and get them- again not the end of the world. The al la cartes are first come and do get quite busy but the food is good and different. We quite enjoyed the Mexican one. We were told to go early around 5:45pm to miss the line. We never waited in line more then a few minutes and were in eating. • Rooms: We were in block 28 and it was only a few minute walk from the lobby, pool, buffet etc. We had some bad neighbours unfortunately and they were quite loud so our sleeps weren’t the best. Our room was cleaned mediocre but it could of been worse. •The main concern this week I would say is the public washrooms- there was no ladies washroom around the pool. The washroom near the seafood restaurant was also broken and my two of my friends got locked in there and finally got helped out after screaming for help. (this was reported to the lobby and the customer service and nothing was done about it) •They also brought in a large amount of locals to the resort for Valentine’s Day which made the resort extremely overcrowded and busy. No one was aware of this. •The wifi was horrible and spotty and only worked for maybe 1 minute before cutting out. But this isn’t the reason you are here in Cuba and it’s not the end of the world. It is just nice to check in at home. Overall I would say it was a great relaxing trip and the weather was beautiful. The people and Cuba in general are so wonderful and that is what I would return for!

Good choice

We were pleasantly pleased to arrive at this resort. Check in was done quickly. We were not impressed that we had to wait over two hours to get into our room (5:30) but once we did, we were happy campers. We had a room in Block 17 and the room was gorgeous. Everything we needed was in there and the mini fridge was stocked daily. Milady our housekeeper was fantastic and kept our room extremely clean. Word of caution - watch out for the shower. We had plenty of hot water but it goes from [... read more] cool to scalding very quickly. Our terrace overlooked the pool and by 4:00 it was mostly empty and it was lovely to sit and enjoy a quiet drink enjoying the view. I will add no bugs - either outside or in the room! We had no mosquito or noseeum bites considering it was extremely hot & humid. Maybe those buggers don't like our blood. The beach was stunning ! As stated there were areas with some rocks but it was great nonetheless. Beach bar service was exceptional and the bartenders sure made our vacation even better. At times the line-ups were long but never had to wait more than a few minutes. Having the water jugs at the bar was a very nice touch. Really encourages people to drink water. There were more than enough beach loungers but sometimes shade spots were hard to find. We always found a prime spot and stayed there all day. Didn't really use the pool much. Seemed to be quite a busy spot but the pools were huge and again, plenty of loungers. Food at the buffet was pretty good. There was always a large selection of dishes and there is always something to find. Typical mystery meats and although we stayed away from them, they looked good. The grillers grilled chicken, fish & beef to perfection. Huge selection of cheeses and as well as desserts. Everything was tasty and no complaints there. Unfortunately there was still a bread shortage going on and it was hit and miss. Milk also was scarce. No biggie for us. The only complaint was when the locals arrived they wiped out the buffet pretty quickly. Several times they just went up to the griller and took everything she had on the grill leaving us to stand even longer while she prepared more meat(s). It was wrong and she should have remained firm in telling them back of the line ! Ah well, we're on vacation. A la cartes were very good and a nice change from the buffet. Yes there were line-ups to get in but we were there just prior to opening and didn't wait too long. I just don't understand the noise level in those restaurants. Why oh why do people have to yell at each other - so much for nice, quiet dining. Unfortunately we didn't have the famous fish tacos but made up for it by having other types of tacos - very good. Pizza was available only one day and we were lucky to have it - again, very good. Service at all the restaurants was top notch and we never waited long for our drinks or refills. They all served us with a smile and every wait staff we encountered were wonderful. Was everything perfect? Absolutely not. We had several petty incidents not even worth mentioning but the service we received was amazing. Front desk were on a few issues and within minutes things were resolved - top notch staff. It's the staff that make or break a vacation and the Fiesta staff definitely made our vacation a memorable one. We are low maintenance people and were treated like 5 star guests - from the animation staff to the waitresses to the front desk - they were all wonderful and fun ! We met so many wonderful guests and made some great friends here. Even with sickness we managed to enjoy ourselves and all that the resort had to offer. Pat & Diane, North Bay Ont.

Little Disappointed

I have been to this resort 6 times, however my last visit I was a little disppointed for these reasons; - dinner reservations no longer required, (the a-la- carte restaurants are not large enough to accomdate the number of guests), line ups were over 1 hour some nights - there was no bread or cerial for entire visit - there was a shortage of juice, pancakes, and fruit - no milk for 2 days - no pizza at Italian Restaurant for 3 days (no flour) As usual the staff was great especially at t [... read more]he Mexican A-la-carte I will probably go back, however a little reluctant to refer to family or friends, at this time

A Few Problems

The hotel was fine the first 5 days - then they ran out of milk, flour (no bread or pizza), red wine and room towels. The staff was great, the grounds beautiful and the beach and pools were very nice.

Adequate

This is my fourth time visiting Cuba, I wasn’t all that impressed with this resort. Luckily we booked at a decent price, it definitely isn’t a 4 star, close but not there yet. I’ve always been fine with the food in Cuba, never a problem with past visits but this resort had substandard food, and always repetitive. The snorkeling in front of the hotel is terrible, there is nothing to see. The rooms are very dated and I didn’t find the staff overly friendly whatsoever. The grounds were beau [... read more]tiful, the VIP pool very nice, and the beach was beautiful... lots of beach loungers any time of the day. I will not be returning and wouldn’t recommend this resort for the food alone.

Fiesta Americana Costa Verde

For the area it was wonderful. We enjoyed our vacation as we went there to relax and do a few excursions. The people are very nice and the tour guides were fantastic. We didn't mind the food and the weather stopped us from seeing the entertainment a few nights but when we did see it, it was good.
