Paradisus rio de Oro

This hotel is amazing please. It is true paradise. It’s quite and full off beautiful gardens. Service is definitely 5 stars. I don’t understand when people say in Cuba there is no good food . I guess you are going to cheep wrong hotels because this one has fantastic food and world chef. We stay in Royal section but the also the regular part is amazing.

Great staff!

The amenities on the resort were great from the volleyball courts, snorkelling, and paddle boats. A beautifully maintained beach, and pool area is where we spent most of our time. The food was really good for Cuba, never found ourselves going hungry. The best part was the staff they really went out of their way for us whenever they could and it truly made it the best stay possible! However, until all of the covid restrictions are lifted I will not be returning to Cuba, the PCR test you take on [... read more] the resort was very sketchy and they just give you a hand written note on a paper saying negative signed by a doctor. One of our friends tested “positive” and they wouldn’t retest her and wouldn’t let her partner stay in the hotel with her - they take you to a hotel in the city with no hot water where they try to sell you “medicine” so that you retest negative. They told her because they already swabbed her nose if they retested her it would come back negative because they removed all the bacteria - they stopped harassing her to buy medicine once the embassy was involved, the embassy retested her and she tested negative showing it was all just a money grab on the Cuban government’s part. Obviously this wasn’t the hotels fault tho, just beware when travelling to Cuba.

Beautiful Resort Dec, 2021

Just returned from a 5 day stay. Nice hotel, nice grounds, good food and very nice and helpful Staff. They have a good gym, the beach was beautiful and good snorkeling to the right of the resort. The mattress was the best I’ve had in the 20 or more stays in Cuba

Great Resort

I loved this hotel,so did my daughter who i travelled with for a one week stay.The rooms were very clean,every day the maid came.Our room was 4224 building #42 a short walk from the buffet, lobby, entertainment.The grounds were well kept,there was a lot of painting of the buildings that were not in use ,they did not distract from anyones holiday, they were very quiet,no loud banging,the painting looks wonderful and fresh.As for the restaurants,the buffet was open for breakfast daily,they lacked  [... read more]some things like mayo,pepper,onions,condiments(ketchup,vinigear,) no bacon or syrup for the pancakes.Only ham,sausage,tomato,cheese for the omelet.They are having difficulty getting some products.The supper in the buffet was not open ever day,we had our choice of the other restaurants on these nights.The food was good,but i did stay at this hotel 2 years ago,then the food was better.The pool area is lovely,Lorenzo is the pool bartender,he takes good care of you no matter where you are around the pool or in the pool,his Pina Colada's are the best,make sure you ask him to blend them in the blender.The beach is not the best at this hotel,it has a lot of rocky area,if you walk farther up the beach to Sol Rio De Luna,which is being renovated right now,no one is there,you can swim there.I will tell everyone,the beach is not cleaned every day,much to everyone's dismay,there is a lot of garbage(old sandals,plastic cups,old toothbrushes,etc.)on the beach.They should make sure it is cleaned,people love Cuba,the beach is visually stunning in this area,without the garbage. This hotel is not too large,easy to get around,lots of palm trees.Please make sure you have good covid insurance,plus optimal credit card coverage as someone did test positive for covid,the costs of staying longer were adding up for the lovely person and his wife.

Fabulous resort and staff!

Visited November 17th for a week and stayed in a Royal suite to celebrate our honeymoon. The grounds, pools, spa, beaches, entertainment and service were all top notch. Highly recommend this resort. So much that we're heading back in January!!! Staff were very attentive and always wore face masks as required by covid procedures. Hand sanitizer stations and personnel were present at entrances to restaurants and common areas. Tables and chairs were sanitized after use. Beach offers a great combination of white sand areas, coral for snorkelling and shade for lounging. Pools were very nice, although the display of public affection by some of the younger visiting locals was a bit inappropriate at times. Highly recommend Paradisus Rio De Oro!

A good 4star resort

The grounds and room were very nice except for the rat that ate our sandwiches. And we had to clean up after each morning. The food was average for Cuba, we expected more. Needs to upgrade service employees to a higher standard to meet the 5 star rating. The 5 star rating is it compares to other Cuban resorts. Not to world standards.

Very relaxing

We basically had the entire resort to ourselves. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was surprisingly good, the only real headache was just the traveling. Also the staff we’re having some issues with the Covid tests they had to administer. Short term headaches, overall we had a great experience and would definitely go again.

Amazing resort!

It was another time we spent amazing 7 days from March 1 to March 7 2020. We always stay in Royal service, and can not stop enjoy the vacation there. Everything is perfect, we could not dream more. Manager of Royal Service Lina Cordovez Lorenzo takes care about everybody and everything the best way you can imagine. Unbelievable how she can find so much energy and heart to talk to every guest, make sure everything is good for everybody. A great ten days at a wonderful resort.

We arrived at Paradisus Rio De Oro in early afternoon and were immediately greeted at registration with welcoming smiles. After a speedy registration, we were taken to our room. The buffet was open so we quickly slipped into vacation mode. The main area includes registration, shops, the lobby bar, the entertainment section and has lots of areas to enjoy the atmosphere while you sip on your favourite beverage. The grounds are lovely and you can see the great pride that the garden crew takes in k [... read more]eeping the foliage and flowers well trimmed as well as being creative in what they grow. The ecological garden is fascinating.The beach is beautiful and you can walk along, snorkel and swim, or relax in a recliner. The grounds, the public areas, the rooms and dining areas are always kept clean. There are lots of choices for dining in the various restaurants as well as at the buffet. We were greeted by friendly, caring genuine staff who were always willing to help and make your day a great one. We look forward to returning to Paradisus soon.

Wonderful getaway

Our first all inclusive, so we don't have a large sample to work with. 7 days of relaxation and sun. We chose the Royal Service option after having to reduce our time there from 10 to 7 days. The upgrade was absolutely worth it. A beautiful infinity pool with a superb view and great service. Employees unconditionally focussed on exceeding your expectations and ensuring you enjoyed your stay. The resort does show some signs of aging (examples: loose pool tiles, aging toilets, worn out seat cu [... read more]shions, lounges by the main pool were past their past). But overall these minor draw backs are well outweighed by a great spot, quiet rooms and friendly guests. If you are looking for inpool bars and a lively experience, the main resort may be more your scene. But if you want privacy, a getaway and a chance to recharge. Royal Service may be right for you. We are already thinking about our next stay.

Excellent Resort: Much Better Than Expected

This was my first time in Holguin and my partners second. As it was our anniversary, and her 2nd time at the resort -- we requested and were graciously authorized for a upgrade to the villas-- . essentially a bungalow with a nice patio out back facing the mountains and a walk way. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The food at the resort was very good, much better than we expected. However, the vino tinto (red wine) was likely the worst we have ever had at any resort although so [... read more]me of the wines available for purchase were quite good. There were some things not available, such as bananas and grapefruit -- which I understand is a logistical thing so let us move on. The beach and water were excellent albeit certain areas of the beach were somewhat treacherous to get into the water so we entered the ocean further up the beach -- which is why I only gave 4* for the beach. The pools are definitely 5* and we especially enjoyed the swim up bar. We found that all the staff were wonderful, especially Manager Emile (a fellow guitarist), Eduardo in the pool bar, Marisol, who seemed to be everywhere and Roberto at the beach bar all went above and beyond in their duties and should be highly commended. As a musician, I had the distinct pleasure of performing Cuban tunes such as Chan Chan, La Bamba, Guatanamara and of course Hotel California (not so Cuban however people always asked for it) with Alex, Vlady and Manuel several times (Echo Band) -- who are incredibly talented musicians. Cuba is such a great country for music going as far back as The Buena Vista Social Club musicians. I was unaware that scuba diving was available free at this resort; however, when I was told of this by bar patron Mark, I immediately signed up and was able to complete a great dive amongst some beautiful coral and fish life. Be sure to bring your diver's certification and log book. The gym facilities were very good albeit I did only work out twice. There are weight plates and an assortment of dumbells and of course your typical machines. Be sure to go to the beach area behind the spa. The management invited Cheryl and I to a special by invitation only dinner at the Beach Bar restaurant on our final evening where incidentally they also have live music during the week from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. by Alex's band. We must say that this special dining experience was fantastic! The chef went out of his way to make an incredible six course dinner which we enjoyed while listening to a very talented solo musician playing her nylon string guitar. We would highly recommend you stay at Paradisus Rio de Oro and please tell the aforementioned people hello from Larry and Cheryl and that we highly recommended them. To give you an idea of the exchange, I received 39 CUCs for 50 $Cdn. Have fun and drink responsibly. BTW if you have any old cell phones you plan to get rid of, bring for the locals.

Nice resort

Loved our room we had a wheelchair accessible room it was in a great location close to the buffet. There was a few things I was not happy about I had to pay 100 Canadian to rent a wheelchair because they only had 1 and it was out. All the walkways are all very rough I had a cast on so I had to literally hold my leg up because the bumping hurt my foot. If you love the beach the water in front is all coral so you need water shoes or walk down the beach a piece to swim. Great snorkeling at this beach Unfortunately I didn’t get to. There ladders into the pool are into the water like the start of the Ladder is not on dry cement one was missing completely. It was a nice resort. It is on a cliff the view was beautiful

Amazing resort

This resort was truly beautiful. We had an ocean view bungalow with an out door shower which was so unique and totally cool. The ocean was great for snorkeling, saw a lot of pretty fish. The staff were amazing very friendly and helpful. The food was really good with lots of options at the buffet. The entertainment staff were always on the go with games and dance lessons, always a lot to do. The really amazing thing was there was always beach and or pool chairs available and any given time of [... read more] the day. Lots of friendly people to hang out with over a drink and a chat. The shows at night were also very entertaining. Would we go back to this resort...in a minute.

Wonderful resort

This was our 3rd time at paradisus rio de oro and it did not disappoint. We have tried other Cuban resorts and always come back to this one. It is absolutely the best. The people are so friendly and efficient, they make our stay perfect. The rooms are superbly clean, well appointed and bright and airy. The staff goes out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect

Stunning!!

This resort was by far the best we've been to. We were a little sceptical going to Cuba, as this was our first trip there, but wow were we wrong. This resort has an amazing beach, lush mature grounds that are extreamly well maintained, friendly staff, quiet when you want quiet relaxation but still fun and full of entertainment when you want it. I would 100% recommend this resort. We cant wait to book again for next year.

Everything is great at Paradisus Rio De Oro!

Highlights include: - Great beach with lots of shaded places to sit. Lots of fish to see while snorkeling. There is always staff at the beech which is very nice. It also nice to have the wash room close to the beech and beverage bar handy. - The pool is nice too with swim up bar. Water was warm and lots of daily entertainment at the pool: volleyball, dancing, etc. - Musicians were amazing! One band played music almost all day on Cuba day on the beach. What a treat! A highlight too was the opera singers on the first night. - Everyone is friendly there and always want to please you. - Love the morning coffee in the lounge. The Buffet is very good with lots of choices, and all our restaurant meals were also very good. - Nothing at all negative to say.

Great Stay!

We had a group of 8 stay at the PRDO feb 12-19. Aside from the perfect weather the resort was fantastic! The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely time. Some reviews state the beach isn’t ideal but we all found it perfect! There are some rocks but you are still easily able to lounge and swim. The pool bar staff were fantastic, Lorenzo and Osmany in particular. Food was good! The Mediterranean was very delicious and the Japanese was such a fun experience. 2nd visit. Will be back again.

This resort, offers more than I could do in a 7 day trip. Keep in mind I'm there to relax and unwind. There is 7 hours of wifi included when you arrive, more than I required. The food is awesome for Cuba, it exceeds expectations. The entertainment staff, keep things lively considering how quiet the resort is. The vendors are polite and not pushy, they always make deal. Many people complain about missing creature comforts of home like chips, and condements, bring salt and pepper, and ketchup [... read more] packets, and individual peanut butter, if you are the things that will ruin your experience... The staff are always happy and many remembered me from my previous trip. If you have a question about what cigar is right for you, they have a fantastic Sommelier Aliens, he will be glad to help you! My maid Mariluz kept my room immaculate, and made impressive towel creations daily. I will return and I recommend you go.

Highly recommended

We were looking for a quiet place to relax and we found it! The room was perfect, clean and comfortable. The beach was amazing, soft sand to walk on, clear blue water and not overcrowded. Food was spectacular, wouldn't change a thing. The people are so friendly and just lovely. We had a great vacation.
