I would cautiously recommend

We can clearly see that the hotel is being renovated. The grounds are pretty and well kept. ROOMS: The only decent thing about the rooms are the new mattresses. That's where it ends. The AC is very poor. The bathrooms are dark and in need of serious repairs. We had requested an accessible room at time of booking and our agent sent a message a couple days before our arrival regarding the accessible room. When we arrived we were not given an accessible room. The following morning we wen [... read more]t to the front desk and had the letter with us requesting an accessible room. They still said they didn't have any. Excellent planning on their part. We finally did get an accessible room....walk in shower was there, no safety bars anywhere. Having to pick your stuff up off the floor because there wasn't a shelf anywhere is also not considered accessible. FOOD: the buffet is fine. The A la cartes are impossible to book. Yes we can book 3 st a time but nothing was available till 9PM. We did manage to get into the steak house and it was good. BEACH: nice walking beach. A nice heavy currant, we enjoyed that. Just lay there and float. The beach chairs are in absolutely terrible shape. They are all broken in one way or another. POOL: Pools are fine. Seriously lacking chairs and umbrellas. If you're not up early to "reserve" chairs you're out of luck. And really, how much would it cost for a dozen or two umbrellas? The shopping street has a bakery...its the same bakery items you get at the buffet. You can also get ice coffees which were great and "fancy" coffee. Theres an ice cream place and pizza place, again the same as you would get in the buffet. EXCURSION: We did a private excursion with RV Tours. It was the best part of our trip. It was a private trip....just our group of 10. They did an amazing job. It was the Blue Lagoon trip. We truly were the only ones on this massive private beach, at the waterfall, at the blue Lagoon. There was absolutely nothing they could have done to make it better.

Lacking!

Weather was great but there wasn’t enough chairs, staff, dishes, pool umbrellas for the amount of people. Pool had big chunks coming off of it. Whether you tipped or not it didn’t matter. Food was ok but the same buffet every day.

Beautiful Resort, clean and well kept.

The Resort was well kept and beautiful, very clean, the staff was friendly and the beach was well kept. Some work could be done with the food and evening entertainment. The food was pretty much the same with every meal and the evening entertainment was nothing exciting. Our Sunwing Agent was amazing and was very accommodating. Thanks Bernie for all your help. Perfect staff and wonderful environment

The staff was just amazing, always ready to help with a smile, I felt like a princess the entire time. The daily activities were entertaining because of the active entertainment crew. I enjoyed the dance lessons and the pool aerobics. The food was always on point. The restaurants really outdo themselves. The ice cream was to die for. The pools are clean and crystal clear. The beach is free from litter. If I were to recommend this place I would do it a hundred times. The only downside was the f [... read more]irst night checking in. The reception was so slow. They spent way too much time checking in one person. I feel like they should have a digitized system and just make a few clicks when checking in instead of filling out the forms manually at the counter.

A paradise within the heart of the Atlantic Ocean

Services were incredible and the staff was amazing. Senator resort is a perfect escape to all things fun, relaxation and rejuvenation especially after a long winter season in North America. This incredible resort caters for families, couples, friends or corporates. Fun activities, themed parties and lively Dj's made this trip worthwhile. Awesome resort.

The resort was lovely, my friends and I loved it. We were lucky enough to get an ocean front view which made the experience even more wonderful. The staff is great and the food is good (not seasoned enough lol). The hotel staff was very friendly and we loved the facilities. One thing I did not like though was that a group of us arrived to the hotel at 11pm from the airport and had to wait for almost 3 hours to be checked in. Beautiful resort.

All staff very helpful except for Reception. The day we arrived, we found that our mini fridge was empty. We called/went to Reception about 6 times to ask for water. They laughed at us and finally gave us a few bottles. After this, fridge was refilled regularly. Resort has been updated however the rooms have not except for new mattresses. Fantastic!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Senator Resort and Spa Peurto Plata. The resort has recently been remodeled and is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and housekeeping/maintenance work continually throughout the day to keep common areas and public washrooms sparkling clean. We loved how close everything was and that we didn't require a golf cart to get around from one area to the other. Our experience with administrative staff was fantastic, check in was a breeze and any questions or concerns (2 minor hiccups) were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Likewise, our experience with the serving staff was amazing. Orlando and Ana Maria in the buffet and Juana in the snack bar off the pool were always smiling and available. The staff in the a la cartes and sports bar were equally friendly. Occasionally, during busy times the serving staff did seem stretched a little thin for the amount of diners and resulted in longer than normal wait times for refills or fresh plates. This is probably most true in the sports bar and the snack bar off the pool. We still received great service, just took a little longer. This is not a staff issue, but rather an issue of staffing during busy/peak periods. The Entertainment staff were just that - entertaining. They took time to learn people's names and really read the room when it came to approaching visitors. They were friendly and fun without being obnoxious or too over the top. Pollo was a real stand out in this area and even though my husband and I aren't really " joiners" he made us feel part of the fun while letting us remain at our own comfort level. Food was great and there was quite a bit to choose from. We went to the Japanese a la carte which is a great time and the steak house which was lovely. There are a couple of areas that could use some work. These include the number of chairs and umbrellas around the pool, which, especially in the case of umbrellas, are too few. If you want a seat and an umbrella, be prepared to get up prior to 5 am to "save" your spot. I didn't like that we had to do that and it was the only real issue I had with the resort. Another issue that we saw that needs to be addressed related to the Japanese a la carte. We had a woman at our table/hibachi-thing that had a severe allergy to shellfish - either she needed to be told this a la carte could not accommodate her allergy or the staff at the restaurant need to be better trained about preventing these types of allergic reactions/cross contamination. She was forced to leave because of food preparation practices. This is a training and communication issue. Overall though, a fantastic time at a great resort. We'll be back.

Really nice

We had a basic hotel room. Great value. The pools and beaches were great. dining was great a lot of variety and fresh made food all hours. The staff was very nice and friendly. The resort seemed clean everywhere I went.

Nice vacation

We enjoyed are stay here although there some improvements they could make. The resort is exceptionally clean. The grounds are emaculate.Rooms were very nice . Problem with the air conditioner was quickly fixed. Service atthe bars was very slow at times. Buffet was very repetative. Food was often cold. Alacartes were good but hard to get reservations. Both times at the alacartes there were empty seats yet people couldn't get reservations.Over all it was a good holiday.

Resort with growing pains

On the positive .nice staff...very clean. ..nice beach..negatives...no character . Poor entertainment...mediocre food..impossible to get chairs at the pool...not enough staff..not enough amenities...hard to get a la carte. Won't go back

Great time

Had a great time at the Senator Puerto Plata, rooms were squeeky clean and the maids left decorations daily, fridge was always restocked. Food was excellent at the buffet and the restaurants and the strip with pizza, ice cream and coffee shop was a nice touch. Enjoyed the entertainment staff, activities and especially the live music. Beach was amazing and great for a nice walk to burn off all the food. Staff everywhere was absolutely amazing and freindly. Miss it already.

Awesome Resort

The hotel was wonderful. It was in a really good location. The check in was too slow. The food was 5 star. The buffet was good if you are early. The beds to sleep on were awesome . The rooms were nice. The maids were really good. They need beer in the fridge.

Great resort in Dominican Republic

We thoroughly enjoyed the Senator resort in a minimalistic renovation which is very well done, very welcoming ( Eusebio was a great communicator) , very clean, excellent location on beach with view of in and outgoing cruise ships, fabulous variety of food, very helpful service professionals, kind and nice waiters and waitresses. Highly recommend it Air transit should have wider seats in their plane!

Self Serve

This resort was extremely clean and groomed. The rooms were small but adequate. The food was mediocre, lukewarm at best. Steak restaurant was amazing. Service in the buffet and around the pool was almost non existent. Sure saved on tips! Air Transat rep was more interested in selling the excursions than telling us about the resort.

Really great resort

Could not say enough nice things about staff. Friendly, obliging and always courteous. Very clean, washrooms, restaurant and especially rooms. Resort was just lovely, pool areas and beaches. Only 2 things a bit of a nuisance, towels were unavailable by 10.30 in am, and has to wait a few hours to get any, also areas surrounding accommodations were very dimly lit and you had to be cautious when following the lanes. However I would certainly recommend this resort to friends etc. And would consid [... read more]er returning in the future.

Clean resort with horrible food.

If you're looking for a modern resort with clean rooms and updated facilities. This is the place. If you by chance happen to enjoy food and are looking for a culinary par to north america. Don't go here. I'll start with the good - rooms are all nice we stayed in a non luxury room and it was clean well kept and comfortable. Turn down service and bar re stocked every day. Sports bar a snack hut have slightly better food. Sandwich and fries are okay but generally cold and take 30+ minutes to serve. La carte restaurants.... We had 3 allowed. We were only able to book one - hotel would not help us on this or offer anything else. Sunwing rep was also no help told us we didn't understand how restaurants worked (meanwhile I'm a restaurant owner/operator) Service from staff wasnt terrible a hand full of staff really helped us out and would treat us well but most staff had no sense of urgency and are happy to have you wait 20+ minutes too take your order. So to sum up - if you don't care at all about food and are happy with pizza and fries this place is good. If you like eating good food you won't like Senator.

Beautiful Resort

From the time we arrived till we left the resort was just what the brochure said, the staff were very friendly and always there to help, the beach was beautiful, the pool needed a little up dating but well maintain. The restaurants were very tasty, Japanese, Italian and steak house, the Buffett had a lot of variety, but there were so many options for food, There is a sports bar with chicken strips, fries ,nachos and onion rings, a coffee shop, ice cream parlour, pizza shop, and beach hut th [... read more]at serves you. If your wanting a relaxing holiday I would recommend going here, everything is within a five minute walk from your room. Entertaining staff were very engaging with getting everyone to participate. Beautiful Resort

The resort is beautiful and the grounds kept immaculate. The staff are friendly and work hard to make the guests experience positive. A special mention for the entertainment team who are exceptional and work very hard to engage the guests in the many fun activities they provide. The food was satisfactory at the buffet and the al a crate options excellent. Overall I would recommend this resort for a relaxing getaway!
