Decent place for vacation

This resort very positively distinguishes from other resorts of Bahia family. Though it is not categorized as Luxury it provides all the same amenities to the guests (besides alcohol in the rooms) and you always feel yourself welcome in this resort. Transfer from and to airport was well arranged, warm reception and comfortable rooms, great beach and clear water, delicious food, tasty cocktails in the bar. What else is needed for relaxing vacation?

Nice Surprise

We had been to this resort six years ago, and we’re happy with our stay then. However upon returning we were pleased with the changes and updates to the resort. Beach remains beautiful nice to walk, food was very good, property well maintained. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Awesome resort

This was our second time staying at the Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo in Samana. We had an amazing time once again. We love this resort because it is on the smaller side which makes it easier to get around. We also love that El Portillo is located right on the beach so there is no need to take a shuttle back and forth to the beach. The beach is simply spectacular! There are only 2 swimming pools. The large pool located right on the beach hosts daily activities. We enjoyed going for a swim in the small pool located away from all of the action. It has a bar where you can get a drink and is a nice quiet place to chill out after a busy day at the beach. The A la Carte restaurants were excellent. Our favourite was Portofino (Italian). The buffets offered a wide variety of choices for breakfast lunch and dinner. We particularly enjoyed eating lunch at Las Olas buffet while taking in the gorgeous views of the beach just steps away! The service in all areas of the resort was outstanding! We will definitely be returning to Bahia Principe El Portillo in the future!

Absol.amazing resort

Everything perfect!!! Recommend all friends-100 %. Will be back next vacation next year. Clean area,nice show,beach party so nice,animation group best, tasty food,clean beach,interesting excursion Haiti park and Levantado island.

Beautiful, tropical resort.

Overall a great vacation. The resort was well maintained and spacious. Very good beach area but also very busy. Food was excellent. Rooms adequate but bathrooms have no ventilation or fans. Found the pool hours a little restrictive as they closed at 7pm. Much of the entertainment and music caters to the Latino element so if you can't salsa you are not dancing.

Wow Best Holiday Ever

This resort is my new favourite. The ground are beautiful and very clean. All the tree are green and well trim . The room are large well stocked fridge with soft drink,beer juice boxes and bags of Lays Potato chip. The entire room is immaculate, fresh towels and linen changed daily. Large walk in shower with a rain shower head and lots of water pressure. Included in the room is also a jacuzzi bath tub. Air conditioner works well including the ceiling fan. The lobby is very nice including the  [... read more]bars and dining buffet. You have the choice of two buffet which open at 7:00 am. One buffet is located on the beach with spectacular view in the morning while drinking your coffee and eating your breakfast. What more could you ask for. Very good and large assortment of food. Best food I had in a resort so far and I have travel for many years. The beach is very nice and you could walk in either direction for miles. Great snorkeling also with lots to see. The pool is very nice and all drink serve are excellent. Animation is very active and fun to talk with, good shows in the evening. Will definitely return soon.

Yes very nice !

Lovely location and holiday ! The beach was superb and the staff were outstanding. Everything was close to our rooms and the weather was sunny and 29c. Excursion went really well and guide Bobby J was fantastic. Food and al a carte restaurants were a real treat.

Great Hotel!

We had a wonderful 7 days with 1 excursion day, which we really enjoyed. The resort is very peaceful, food is good and plentiful. If you want noise, games and entertainment during the day, there is a pool area near the beach for that, however, we enjoyed going to the beach in the morning, lunch at Las Olas and then retreat to the quieter pool away from everything. One thing that was annoying was even though it was posted on the beach tiki huts 'reserving prohibited', it was not enforced. It  [... read more]was very frustrating that the availability of tiki huts was next to nil. All in all, we really had a great stay.

Good trip

Beach is beautiful with long walk on both side. Food at the buffet with lots of choice for every one with sea fish and exotic fruit every day. Staffs very helpful and friendly. An employee from the resort will approach you to join their Privilege Club Membership, DO NOT BUY, it will cost you more to travel every year, and you have to pay a big deposit sum of money at the beginning.

Great resort

The resort was fantastic. It's not too big, not too small. The waterpark for kids is great. The staff is friendly. The food is good and plentiful. The rooms are nice. Daily and nightly entertainment is great. I recommend this place for sure. The beach is beautiful but there are rocky areas in the water. The pool is not very big and there is no pool bar. There is a bar NEAR the pool though. The weather was absolutely fantastic! We flew with Air Canada and it was ok with us, but I know some [... read more] people were late to the bus by 5 minutes and the bus left without them. They had to take a cab.

Beautiful resort

This facility exceeded all our expectations in every area. Would not think twice about going there again. The beach was beautiful, food was phenomenal and room and total facility was clean and certainly a 5 star plus. There are great seating areas for those who want to be outside but not in sun. All the people there are so accommodating and friendly going over and above.

Beautiful Resort

The resort was very green. The buffet food was very good and lots to pick from. The beach was very clean. The snorkeling was great. The rooms were very clean. The staff were very friendly It was definitely a 4 1/2 star.

The best Bahia Principe I have ever stayed at

The resort is amazing, the people are extremely friendly and very accommodating. The food was good and always a variety. I loved the tropical fruits which I grew up with and was amazed to find it there. The only thing I would like to see in the suites is a long mirror as there is enough big empty walls to put one up for when the women get dressed.

Great Resort

Best resort I have visited for the price. Great service, clean grounds and wonderful food. The easy check in on the bus meant no line up and the choice to go directly to our room to drop off our bags and organize our things before returning to the main village to eat.

Wonderful Holiday!

Totally enjoyed our vacation. Resort clean, excellent food, excellent people. Only down fall was the internet, possibly better instruction. Reception was good, but no info given. Example,we got to the lunch buffet on day of arrival, and waited to be seated, as this is what we were used to from previous vacations. At this resort you seat yourself. Was not informed of this. Other than that, it was an incredible holiday.

Nice place.

This is a beautiful clean resort.The food is pretty good. The brazilian a la carte was great. The service was good. Lacking in emuntrtainment. Beautiful long beach to walk.Must have been march break for quebec. Alot of french families. A lot of young children. Its our second time to el potillio. Ithink we will try somewhere else .

Perfect week!

We always stay with Bahia Principe, and Samana area is our favourite part of Dominican. We loved this resort. Food was terrific with a lot of variety all week. Beach is stunning and the snorkeling, right on the beach, is awesome. A couple days of wind stirred up the sand but the rest of the week was crystal clear. Highly recommended.

Nice resort

The resort is really clean, good food, nice rooms, long walking beach, beautiful staff willing to help in anyway. We tried all the specialty restaurants and liked them all. My favourite was the gourmet restaurant.

Wonderful experience and great resort

We enjoyed our room so close to all the amenities. We could listen to the music from our patio. We were concerned about noise there but at 11 pm all was quiet. Maid service was great and never did we need to wait for them to clean the room. They seem to work around our schedule and rooms were cleaned when we got back. So grateful to Josephina that she ensured we had our drinks ready prior to dinner. Alta Gracia was an amazing woman. Always entertaining. Yisel and Yudelka made sure our ta [... read more]ble of 8 was available for lunch and we enjoyed our servers Ronnie and Luis with their wonderful wit and smiles. Overall, we would come back again. Great

The hotel was great but should highlight the stairs in the lobby better. My husband, who is disabled fell down them and I also saw two other people fall. If you walk up the stairs, you see the signs but there are no signs that there is a step going down. The lighting in the lobby was poor. I saw one guy slip and fall, and not one person from the hotel came to assist him.
