Fabulous Vacation at Grand Sunset Princess, Maya Riviera

Everything, from the front lobby, check-in, checkout, lobby bar, buffets, a-la-carte dining, suites, pools, beach and staff, Everything was awesome. We will be coming back! Friendly, considerate and well spoken employees.

Beautiful Resort

Very well maintained. Beautiful walkways. Nice rooms, however our room was very smelly and I got a bad headache the first night I stayed. I think it was a mold problem. Also, the air conditioning was not adjustable and was very cold. When we turned off the air conditioning, there was a bad sewer smell in the room. Our friends did not have this problem in their rooms so it might be an isolated problem. The other issue we had was 3 of us booked back in July, 2017 and we were not placed tog [... read more]ether. Our rooms were quite far apart which made it hard to contact each other. Also, the WIFI connection was bad and kept kicking us out. Needed to sign in all the time. If not for our bad room, I thought the resort was lovely.

Huge Resort

Beautiful resort. Food was mediocre. Not enough variety of fruit. Our room smelled musty, and I’ve got a chest infection now as a result. The wait staff, cleaning staff were phenomenal. Wish there were more stores in the hotel.

Beautiful resort-food disappointing

We returned to the Grand Sunset Princess for our third time. We haven't been here for 6 years and some things have changed. First, let me say that the resort is very well maintained, the grounds are immaculate and the rooms still look good. We did stay in the Platinum suites so I cannot say how the other rooms are but ours was nice. The Platinum pool area and bar are well worth the money and the staff in this area are excellent. Our only complaint and it's a deal breaker for us....the food was NOT good. We only ate in ala cart restaurants so no buffets. Again, the last 2 times we were here the food was really good but not any more. The only two out of 7 that were good was the Italian and the Japanese. The rest were pretty BAD. We heard this complaint over and over again from other guests. Ok I lied I have another complaint- don't go here if you don't like raccoons roaming freely around...under your chair, on the beach, by the pools EVERYWHERE. They are everywhere...hundreds of them. My wife was a nervous around them and that's no way to spend your vacation. They are called Coatis...they are in the raccoon family and they are not shy around people, it's not uncommom to see 10-12 of them in a group while you are walking around.

Wonderful resort with amazing service!

We spent a week here from Jan 6-13, 2018 in the Platinum Suites. The resort is very clean and inviting, a bit dated, but overall very good. Its a very nice size for walking, there is a shuttle but we didn't use it as its only 10-15 minutes easy walk from one side to the other. There are numerous areas to congregate both in the pools and out, so everyday can feel like a different resort. The resort is obviously paying attention to customer service and asked for our feedback a couple of times during the visit. We loved our bartender Sebastien, he was a delight! The food at the buffets is pretty standard, fresh and tasty for the most part. You need to try the various sauces that are hidden around the buffet to spice it up. My favourite was the Fondue a la carte dinner. A unique experience for Mexico and really good. My only complaint would be the fact that we had a ground floor suite and the Coaties (raccoon type animals) made in impossible to use that space. They are very aggressive and one tried to claw through our screen door, luckily the glass was closed at the time. Next we will get a swim out or a higher floor. Overall I would recommend this resort as a good value for the price and would certainly go back.

Amazing Place

What an amazing place the Princess Riviera is. We have been in many places in the Caribbean and so far this is our favourite one. The beach is just as you would expect. The staff is very friendly and will bend backward to help you. The food was awesome with lots of variety. The à la carte restaurant is a must. Our favourites were the Italian and the Japanese. Sometimes the daily entertainment would be quite loud but at 11:00PM everthing is over and the resort becomes fairly quiet. The resort is a little isolated and you have to take a 20 minutes ride in a shuttle to get to Playa del Carmen. Overall, we will definitely come back

Fantastic trip

The staff were friendly the resort was clean loved my room with jacuzzi and swim up room who could ask for more the drinks were strong unlike Cuba my only complaint was the food not a big enough selection nothing special but was ok

Not bad, I wouldnt go back again though ,

Sunwing was great english. others not so good... Just wanna say that this is my first time ever going away for Christmas in 30 years . The one thing that really upset me was when I was trying to check out and leave. I did a "50 min" spa which i was told it was 70$ CDN that was to be charged to my room. ( which I thought would of been to my visa I used to book the trip. ) when i went to check out, they told me i had to pay in cash or i wasn't able to check out and be boarded on the bus b [... read more]ack to the airport. I didn't have cash on me, forced me to use a ATM, $6 sur charge fee just to use it. then when i went to go pay my 70$ bill, for some reason it came out to be 85$ CDN, and when i gave a 100$ CDN bill, they gave me back PESOS and told me tough luck, here's your check out papers, and be on my way pretty much. I would not recommend this place to someone whose looking for stress free vacation.. and for what i paid to go on this trip... you think i would have gotten a little better service.

Amazing resort

Beautiful beach, great pools, lots of a la carts, yummy food, very clean rooms. Servers are amazing and the whole resort staff are very accommodating and nice. Will come back again! 10/10 would recommend

True 4 star

The room was excellent...clean, dry and cold. Rooms cleaning staff were excellent. Food was good...not amazing, but enough selections to a find a nice plate. Deserts were plentiful with good selection. Swim out suite was great...but the sun only hit that side of the building for half the day....so spend the am there, and move to the main pools or the beach. Grounds were clean and in good repair, save for the main big pool that was closed for repair. They have to fix them sometime right? Snac [... read more]k bar on the beach was great....drink lines moved well....staff were happy and polite. Loved that they controlled the lines and sent people who cut lines to the back...not sure hot they kept track of that while making drinks...impressive. If you love the ocean, this is not the greatest spot...rocky just inside the water. Bring water shoes ! Overall we have found better in the area, but this was solid for sure.

Beautiful Hotel

This hotel is so big and beautiful I was amazed! I would strongly recommend it to other travelers! The cleanliness and service of the staff was incredible and made our vacation effortless. Food and amenities were also enjoyable! I can't wait to go back again :) Two thumbs up and five stars in my books.

Amazing resort!

We stayed in a platinum room and it was amazing. The grounds were very nice and kept clean. It was a nice walk from platinum to the main lobby or there were regular shuttles to and from. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only thing I didn't like was the platinum area of the beach. It was farther away and the wait staff had to use the same bar as the reg beach, so it took a while to get your drinks. All in all we can't wait to go back

This resort was great 10/10

Food was amazing.The grounds were clean worker's are friendly.Many a le carte restaurants to choose from.Buffet was good and 24 hour sports bar was awsome.night showtime was entertaining and live bands at the bar had a good mox of music e every night.

Unforgettable vacay

The resort is really great. The rooms are very comfortable. Our only problem was that the swim out suite couldnt be locked from outside which makes it difficult to actually use as it should be. The restaurants are very good, both a la carte amd buffets. There were several parts under renovations but it didnt cause big problems for us. service and personnel very nice.

Very nice Resort

Travelled mid-october. weather was awesome (high twenties), weather forecast showed thunderstorm everyday but it was not accurate at all. only rained at nights a little bit but it would stop fast. Resort is huge, at least 20 minute walk from lobby to beach. good for kids, they have a family club area where you can drop your kids from age 3. Not much shades on pools if you travelling with infants. even the kids pool is uncovered and no shade in the pool. Rooms are nice and modern. they charge you [... read more] a small fee when checkin in, around 1 dollar per night. which tooks us by surprise, apparently is a new fee the locals are charging for maintenance of the beach, etc. Buffets were good, ala carte too but they dont all open everyday, we couldnt get the mexican because they fill out fast. Dont go to La fondue, bad service and food. the grill, International and Miso are very good. There are some royal club reps always trying to reclute people around to get you in to listen to their 90 minute talk to get you enrolled in their service. very very annoying, we got approached at least 5 times everytime we walked to the Buffet. At some point, i wanted to take another path to the buffet because they will always cut in saying hi and having small talks just to then offer you to join them and sign up with them for a talk. and they put pressure. also., they change staff every day so everyday you will get approached. Beach was ok, smelled really bad the days we were in there, and always with red flag. Some mosquitos at night for sure, very annoying if u get bit. Plenty of pools, entertainment could be improved. very close to playa del carmen. Other resorts have more things to do and ammenities i believe. overall i would give this a 4 star. good time

Fabulous time away!

Hotel and grounds were incredible. The staff were always helpful and smiling. Went with three buddies and had a great time. Only complaint was the Thai food at the Miso restaurant. Seemed like they used the same sauce for every dish and it certainly wasn’t an authentic Thai sauce.

Very nice resort

Our family spend one amazing week in this resort.Room was clean,comfortable beds.No problems with any towels.Great variety of food choices.Staff is very friendly and trying to serve best possible way they have been taught. Unfortunately some of the waitress didn't know the etiquette,and the right way to serve,but it is not their fault.However our vacation was great and we had very nice time together.

Large, Lively and Impeccable Grounds

If you enjoy a large and lively resort then this one is for you! There is always something to do from water activities, cultural tours like Tulum, Chichen Itza, beach dance lessons and games to evenings filled with live bands and performances and great evening shows. The demographics are pretty scattered, from young children to elderly from everywhere around the world. We found the majority were from the UK, US, Russia and Spain. We asked staff members if the water is usually that sandy and covered in seaweed, but they said it's usually clear, it was caused by the high winds of the storm that lifted the ocean floor.That was true since a few days into our vacation the water did clear. Regardless, my husband and I were in the ocean every single day. As mentioned, the resort is large. It is long so the distance from the beach to the main lobby is about an 8 minute walk. We don't mind walking at all so it didn't bother us. There was a trolley that apparently came every ten minutes or so on the outer paths, but we never saw one and we didn't care to use it anyway. This resort offers a daily shuttle to Playa Del Carmen for 8USD round trip which drops you off directly downtown and the driver explains the pick up times and provides you with a small map to find the location. The service was incredible. My husband and I love Mexico because we find that the service, food and culture is the best. The staff was very organized and kept records of everything it seemed. We really liked the idea of offering a "Boxed Lunch." My husband and I departed at 6am so we asked front desk if the buffet would be open so early. They stated that the sports bar would be available with some breakfast foods and drinks, but they also offered the boxed lunch which is ordered at the reception the previous day and they have it ready for pick up the next morning. It apparently came with an apple, sandwich water from what he briefly described. It was a magnificent vacation and we would definitely recommend this resort.

Great Trip

Everything was what we expected it to be. We had a great trip! The resort was very spacious and clean. The beach was also very clean and beautiful. Lots of entertainment and the shows were amazing!!!!

Great Resort

Amazing place! Good food, entertainment and staff! Enjoyed every bit of the trip. Great place to go for a get away vacation. Resort has so many activities to do. Can easily book tours outside the resort.
