Good but not great!

Good food (avoid opa & italiam resto they are sub par), good entertainment, nice resort, nice beach, poor service, avoid the nexus tours desk at the beach especially. I wont be returning to any royalton hotels after finding out they are owned by the infamous sub par sunwing airlines.

Incredible holiday!

The resort is beautiful (very new) with lovely facilities. The rooms were clean and nicely laid out. The swim up rooms are fun for the kids. Food at the buffet was excellent ( thw kids loved the kids area in rhe buffet snd the gelato station was a hit at lunch and dinner) and the a la care restaurants were even better! The water spa prior to my treatment wa [... read more]s a highlight! Pools around the resort varied in temperature but most were reasonably heated. The sand on the beach was so soft which was a treat compared to some other Mexican resorts that had more of a rocky texture. For dinners at the a la carte restaurants, we had group of 15 so reservations were sometimes tricky but they did try to accomodate our size and time requests as best as they could. The only thing lacking was the kids club. The staff wasn't very engaging or welcoming with the kids and they close for lunch every day which is tough when we are only dropping them off at 10 or 11 am. Otherwise I would recommend this resort to families with kids if all ages.

Great resort!

This resort offers great service and lots of amenities. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The beach is great, but the water is quite dirty (lots of seaweed) so if you're looking to spend all your time in the ocean, you may not enjoy it.

Top knotch resort

I'd recommend this resort. The food was excellent and the staff were well trained and friendly. Great pool area with waterslides for the kids. The beach is very nice with lots of chairs and great sand, but the swimming area at the beach is just so-so. My only other quibble would be they have staff that are asking you about once a day to attend a time share presentation. They're nice enough about it, but it gets old after a bit.

Amazing family resort

Everything was amazing from the rooms to the pools and the food! Kids club was well run and they give you a pager for when your child is ready to leave. The only thing is this resort is pretty secluded- taxi to the nearest town is $50 usd each way.

Luxury at its finest!!!!

It was our first time in Mexico and we loved everything about Royalton Cancun Riviera all inclusive resort. From the impressive lobby to the amazing service provided we would return in a heartbeat. The restaurants were incredible. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the cafe/ice cream parlour was a great treat for us on the hot days! The multiple pools and kids play were so convenient. Highly recommend for families

Amazing resort. Food was fantastic at the buffet. High chairs readily available in all the restaurants. Swim out family suite was beautiful and perfect for us with an infant napping multiple times a day. Kids splash pool was the best set up I have seen for kids.

Great vacation!

The resort was the best I've ever been to, clean, the staff was very helpful, the food amazing! Loved that you didn't need a reservation at the alacarte restaurants and that these were unlimited, this adds great value and is hard to find. The only complaint was that the resort was far away from everything.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa

Tripcentral.ca team RE.: Our recent stay at Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa – 4 November to 11 November 2016 Here are our comments about our trip review to the Royalton in Riviera Maya. We travelled with our friends and their young daughter of 4. Overall we were pleased and happy with our stay at the Royalton, However, we do have some comments that we hope will help you improve their offering. Sunwing: We tried to board early the Montreal to Cancun flight considering that parents  [... read more]with children are always called to do so prior to most of the other passengers. We were not pleased at all when the Sunwing employee at the gate reminded us in a very stern manner that she had not called for parents with children to board. We propose that this employee revectors her career where she will not deal with customers. The rest of the flight as well as the return flight were fine. Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: The transfers from and to the hotel were fine. Upon arrival, at approximately 11:00 AM, we were graciously welcomed and checked in without any problem. The lady that checked us in did a great job to find us 2 separate rooms close to each other, our friends and us. We would like to propose, if possible, that the flight time from Montreal be delayed from 06:00 to 10:30/11:00 AM with an arrival time around 03:00 PM in Cancun in order to eliminate the 4 hour wait we had prior to accessing our rooms. Speaking of rooms, we would like to note that ours was not inspected prior to our arrival as the toilet bowl was not flushed by the last user and one of the sinks was blocked. Maintenance staff came promptly and fixed our problems. After check-in we were then met by a Butler who, as we gathered later, sole purpose was to convince us to purchase local tours, encourage local shops, etc. One of his first lines or sales proposition was that if we were ¨good¨ during our stay we would obtain greater benefits if we were to come back for another stay at the resort. Wow what a sales proposition, the resort does not think that you are worthy of such benefits now but if you behave they will really treat us better on your next visit. I think that the sale proposition of the resort show be to make sure that we really enjoy our first stay which should motivate us to later come back to the resort for another stay. More positive statement and not as derogatory. We were also recommended to attend the 1.5 hours ¨Welcome meeting¨ the next morning to again listen to the sales pitch of different vendors, we assumed, as we were already welcomed by the Butler. We declined to attend such meeting, returned the gift coupons offered to us upon arrival and released the Butler of his duties with us. He was very surprised by our decision and claimed that he may lose his bonus on account of our decision. Interesting comment! The hotel set-up is good and we liked the proximity of the beach with the pools and restaurants. The beach needs to be cleaned on a more regular basis to get rid of the ever-present algae. Food should be available on the beach. The entertainment is excellent and we really enjoyed the shows. The restaurants and bars were fine with a few exceptions. Le Marché was the best restaurant with its variety and quality of food and where we ate on a regular basis. Other good spots were the Mexican (Agave), the Mediterranean (Opa) restaurants. We were not impressed with the quality of food at the Caribbean restaurant and found the food at the Italian restaurant ordinary. Interesting note about the Italian restaurant, we were told that to be seated upstairs for dinner, we needed to purchase a bottle of wine. Never had such a condition imposed in all our traveling around the world, bizarre. Speaking of wine, to our knowledge we never saw, during our stay, anybody purchase a bottle of wine. I would think that is because the prices of your wines are exorbitant and in some cases 5 times the regular prices of the same wines in the SAQ in Quebec, I do not know about the LCBO prices. We would like to comment on the food at the Zen restaurant but were never able to get a reservation after 3 tries. The one area that is excellent is the staff at the resort. Wonderful family resort

The Royalton was a beautiful resort and was well equipped with multiple pools. Some of the highlights included the foam party in he pool, the wide range of choices at the buffet, the Hunter restaurant, the service and the unbelievable powdery soft sand. It is truly unfortunate that the Mosquitos are so bad and that everyone suffered such horrible bites. Also the consistency of the food and drinks could be improved.

Wonderful Stay at Royalton

We returned to the Royalton for a second time after staying there the previous Spring. It is truly an excellent resort. The food throughout (buffet and restaurants) is really good with lots of selection. The property is large enough that the pools and beach are not overly crowded. Grounds are well kept, and the hotel is overall clean and well maintained. Only complaint is the entertainment - it's awful. We enjoyed the resort

The resort had large lovely rooms, we found the area to be clean and the food at the buffet very impressive. The staff were all so friendly and all seemed to enjoy children. We enjoyed the Caribbean restaurant and the Zen restaurant the best. We were a group of nine people and two of us for some odd reason were covered with mosquitoe bites (more like welts). We were told that we had been upgraded to a better room, we were very grateful for that but a little disappointed that only two of our roo [... read more]ms were together, one of our party's room was away from the other two, which made it slightly inconvenience at times with the kids. All in all we were happy with the resort.

Family friendly resort.

Great hotel with very good services. The staff was always friendly and helpful. They had nice.food selections from buffet a la carte restaurants. The pools were.well.design for.kids and our.kids really enjoyed it. The beach wasn't that nice, it had lots of.seaweed floating in the water. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Paradise!!

Best vacation ever! There is not one thing negative that I could say about Royalton Riviera! "It's my pleasure" was the comment from all of the staff and just made my day!! The accomodation was exactly as it looked in the pictures, the food was way beyond any expectations,the beach and pools just incredible.We would go back in a heartbeat! Marlene and Aaron

Great Vacation

Our family of 3 enjoyed our trip to Royalton Riviera Cancun. Pros: Excellent service with Sunwing from the airport to the hotel, very quick and easy check in. Room was very nice, cleaned daily, air conditioning worked very well. Pools were not very busy, easy to get lounge chairs. Food was DELICIOUS! Excellent service and did not need to wait for a la cartes in the evening. Cons: Mattresses were firm (we are used to a soft mattress), could have provided more towels in the rooms, the beach  [... read more]was not the greatest (a lot of seaweed and water looked murky) and restaurants opened for lunch too late (this was only due to us travelling with our toddler and trying to follow her schedule, if we were on our own would not have been an issue). Beautiful resort overall and would definitely recommend to friends.

Great food

This was honestly the most beautiful all inclusive resort I've been to. Food is better quality than the keg. Even the buffet as everyone else says is unreal. They have every thing except for lobster, crab and scallops which is understanding. The cooks at te buffet will cook anything for you fresh from prawns to steak chicken lamb duck tuna steaks... I got the petit fillet but have choice of cut u want. Beach grill ( Caribbean) open for lunch and dinner. Loved the clam chowder for lunch but who eats soup in Mexico right? You could get a lobster there for Lunch at an extra charge but get this, you get a lobster tail for FREE at dinner as its on the menu. That made my trip right there. Italian restaurant great menu as well beef tenderloin calamari, wood stove oven pIzza. I mean even the sports bar had great food . Can't say anything bad about the food and if you can you're way too picky. Even if u did have a bad experience at a restaurant go to the buffet after and satisfy for you're belly. The beach, ya some days it was more beautiful than others and yes there is some seaweed but not much and it's white sand has palm trees and an infinite lookout into the horizon. Plus servers come out to your lounge and get you drinks. What more could ask for. Bars everywhere except for maybe near kids pool but that being for a good reason.the have medelo, corona and deixsecies? On tap and all the liquor were premium. Unreal

Not as good as a year ago

Went to the Royalton for our second time in about a year. The resort was only a few months old when we went then and we had an amazing time, so we figured we would go back because of our last experience. This time around however , although the resort service is fantastic and the food is beyond good , in a year the resort seems tired. Our biggest complaint however was that we requested an ocean view or for that matter a partial ocean view room and we were put into a mangrove swamp view room , whi [... read more]ch is absolutely beyond disgusting because of the smell. The two minutes you need to go out to the balcony and hang your bathing suit to dry is an adventure in agony. The other complaint is DO NOT WASTE EXTRA MONEY and book into the diamond club to get the extra priviledges , it absolutely of no use this time around. Asking for extra towels over and over again did not happen, even though our "butler" said the request was maid several times. The last thing you should know is that the class of people this resort now attracts is far from clean and proper.

Amazing time

The food was great! The resort was very clean as well as the rooms...the amusement for the kids was great as well....the only thing was there wasn't enough shade and in order to have an umbrella by the pool we needed to wake up at 4am to reserve the spot.

FABULOUS....this was the most amazing resort

Rooms were clean spacious and provided all the best amenities. Simply need to touch or twig the check in situation. We were told that our rooms would be ready for three, however they were not. What was happening was that people who arrived after our group (we arrived around 10:30 am) about 4:00 pm were getting their rooms as they checked while most of our group did not get in until later after 4:30. Best holiday of all time . Food was amazing and good value for money overall! You must try the Royalton! Great range of restaurant and room fridge refilled daily. Hotel cleanliness was to the highest standard and hotel staff are friendly .
