This resort was amazing, I went there for my daughters wedding with 41 guest in total. This resort filled all of our expectations and more. The weather was 31 everyday from april 10 to the 17th. The food was great, we did all the a la cartes and no complaints. We were in the 4000 building and a little ways from the buffet and pool but it was all good. I would suggest this resort to friends and family and I am thinking of going back. So planning a trip to this resort don't be afraid.

Near Perfect

What we loved: 1. Food: for an all-inclusive, the food was great! They have a variety of seafood, steaks, and pasta. The à la cartes we're all amazing; the French/gourmet being the group favourite 2. We saw tons of turtles and stingrays. What needs improvement: 1. Pool: the main pool is never clean or clear. The tile is very slimy and it leaves a weird feeling on your hands when you rub up on it. The tile is green in some spots. They need to start scrubbing the tiles and adding more sanitizer to the water to make it clear. A swim up bar would also be nice but that wasn't a deal breaker for us. All in all, this vacation was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone!

Amazing Resort with friendly staff

This vacation was one of kind. Staff was very friendly the minute we got there and continued throughout the week. The sushi bar was amazing. The food was great whether the buffet or the a la cartes. Can't forget that Maria was the best server/bartender on the beach!! We would definitely recommend this resort to everyone.

Trip of a lifetime!

Amazing! I loved everything about this resort. The rooms where beautiful and spacious. The food was to die for, from the a la cartes, to the buffets, to sushi bar... all on point! The service was great, absolutely no complaints. The drinks were delicious, which I tested many kinds during my stay haha. The beach was the best I've ever seen! I [... read more] was on vacation here for a wedding and wasn't my first destination wedding experience and I do have to say that this one was my favorite venue wise. It was private on an elevated beach, very intimate, and the night was so much fun as we were secluded outside from the rest of the resort and didn't have to worry about making noise. All in all, this place is so great!

Small intimate resort

The resort is not too big. was beautiful, the rooms were comfortable and well stocked. High end a la carte restaurants and impressive buffets. Friendly, helpful staff. It was the cleanest resort I have been to The beach was nice Enough pools

Amazing resort

It's a small resort, but you have everything you want. The rooms, the grounds are very clean, the food a very good variety. Best of all you can go snorkelling and see some 🐢, the entertainment is also good. The staff are very friendly and are always ready to help you make sure you have everything you need. Excellent resort, so far one of the best.

Pretty awesome

This was a great resort. A sushi bar on the beach, nice rooms, cool staff, good drinks. All around noiiice. My only complaints are that you they didn't allow reservations for the a la carte restaurants. That was fine if your two people but any group over 5 couldn't get in for a good 1.5 hours (which is like, at least 2.5 hours in Mexican time). Also, there's too many stairs at the disco. Really though, who puts so many stairs in front of a bunch of drunks. Might as well make me climb a la [... read more]dder. I definitely fell down one or two. It's a good thing I didn't feel a thing amiright?! With that out of the way, turtles and sting rays at the beach and whatnot (bring your snorkel gear). The one day, I followed Crush from Finding Nemo for like 2.5 Mexican hours until I sobered up and realized it was just a rock. The drinks tasted like heaven and Maria was always there with a tray of like 12. She was great! There's smaller pools in front of the rooms that you can spend the day in (if you feel like being away from the pool or the beach) and that you can stop to pee in on your way to the room. There's also beds outside that you can sleep on when you forget your room number (How convenient!). I had almost as fun at that resort as I did writing this review. What a fantastic week. I want to go back but my boss won't let me :( I would recommend this hotel to anybody. It's just a shame it'll never be the same after we were through with it. Cheers!

Amazing Experience !!

All in all this resort was amazing! We attended a wedding and the services were great! All 27 of us were very well accommodated. The beach was beautiful and well maintained despite the crazy amounts of daily seaweed that rolled in. The turtles and snorkelling were beautiful. The food was good and the staff was very polite. Also they changed our bed sheets and comforter covers everyday, which was very pleasantly surprising since they don't even do that in Canada. The only complaint I have [... read more] is that the washroom was very open concept. The shower is small but not cramped and where the toilet is it sort of feels like you're in a public bathroom stall. The doors to the toilet don't leave much to the imagination so I recommend only traveling to the resort if you're comfortable with the other person. (You can hear everything) Other than that I rate this resort a 5 star because my experience was 100% positive and wonderful!

Lives up to its 5 stars!

We LOVED this resort. The food was delicious, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the grounds and buildings were meticulous. The beaches were well cared for and there was no shortage of pools or shelters from the sun. We made great friends with the sea turtles, lizards and geckos. For families or couples this is THE place to stay. If you are looking for a really crazy nightlife this likely isn't the place but if you are traveling with friends its perfect.

the staff the grounds the food every thing is great about this place. if you like small intimate places this is the place . after a couple of days you start to know the staff by name. everyone goes out of there way to say hello

Beautiful resort

We couldn't have ask for a nicer room. We were so close to the beach . It was not crowded, we were always able to find a chair on the beach . There were hammocks in front of our deck. The staff were always very friendly and wanted to do anything they could for you . Really enjoyed the week.

Great Resort

We stayed at Akumal Bay Beach Resort March 26-April 2 2017 Great resort if you are looking for a small resort. Every room has an ocean view. We were in building 4. We had our own bar right outside our room. Resort was right on the beach no long walk to get to the water. Beach was rocky in front our building had to walk down the beach a little to swim. Snorkeling but you cannot use flippers. This is new this year. They are trying to preserve the reef and not stress the turtles. Food was [... read more] good. Never a problem getting a chair on the beach. We had our own pool at our building. No line-ups. When we arrived we were met by Abel who gave us a great tour of the resort. He was very helpful and pleasant.

Wonderful Experience

The resort was beautiful and the beach was amazing! We have never experienced better service at any resort anywhere. All the staff were very friendly and super attentive. Service on the beach was A+. Grounds were extremely clean. The live entertainment each night was great, the bands had everyone up dancing.

A real gem!

We spent a wonderful week at this resort in early March – – a young couple in their late 20s and my husband and myself in our early 60s. It could not have been more perfect! It's as though the resort has come up with a list of things that people hate most about all-inclusive resorts and they have completely eliminated those things from their service. Incredible! True 5 Star Vacation

My husband and I stayed at the Akumal Beach and Wellness Resort March 1 - 8, 2017. This was our sixth visit to the Riviera Maya area, third specifically to the Akumal area. On our very first trip to the area some ten years ago we discovered Akumal Beach, the Lol Ha and the turtles. Whenever we visited the area after that, we always made the effort to cab it to Akumal Beach for at least a few hours. During those visits we walked by what was then Akumal Beach Resort always wondering what it  [... read more]would be like to stay there. Over the years we tried and tried to book it without success. Then a few years ago it underwent a major transformation and became the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort. I watched and watched last fall and finally was able to book it through Tanya at Trip Central for 2017. My biggest fear with this resort was that my expectations were so high, I was either going to love it or be colossally disappointed. Well, I am happy to report it lived up to every one of my expectations. We have stayed at quite a few places in Mexico that consider themselves 5 star, but the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort is the only one that actually reaches that level for us. No comparison between them, not even close. From start to finish it is an experience. I can't put my finger on the feeling exactly, the best I can do is to say you just feel like you belong there. We arrived around 2:30pm and had a short wait for our room. We listened to the Fidelity representative for about 30 minutes before our room was ready. No big deal. He did his job, gave us some useful information and knew we weren't interested. Never bothered us again. We were in 3109, it was fantastic. We could lay in bed and still see a perfect ocean view. All the rooms have a jacuzzi tub on the balcony. Very nice in the evening to sit outside in your tub with a drink listening to the ocean and soaking in the moment. It really is as nice as it sounds. We tried room service one night after a visit to Ek Balam earlier in the day. Room service, jacuzzi, a few drinks, listening to the ocean and watching the stars, perfect end to a perfect day. The room service was excellent, took less than 30 minutes and was delicious. Your room beer is Heineken or Dos Equis. FYI, you can also get Dos Equis amber on tap at the bars. Our first day we had 2 Heineken in the fridge and our safe was showing a low battery warning. We went to the front desk to tell them about the safe and I asked if it was possible to have a few more beer (we both drink it) and for them to be Dos Equis. She sent us back to our room to wait for the safe service. He was there before we were! He would not touch the safe without one of us watching him. While he was there our phone rang, it was the front desk letting us know someone would be by to look after our fridge requests. I was still on the phone when the knock came at the door for the fridge person. That's service! For the rest of the week he paid attention to what we were using and filled it accordingly. Great attention to detail. The point with this is, if you want something don't just expect them to know. Tell them politely and be appreciative. I loved the towel art in our room and the treats. Our room was cleaned and kept well stocked with honey and oatmeal soap, shampoo, body wash, towels, facecloths...you get the idea. There is also a reusable bag as well as robes and slippers. Should it rain, you will find an umbrella in your closet where the iron and ironing board is. The bed and pillows were really nice. More comfortable than at home actually! Lots of water pressure in the shower and a huge dressing area. We travel as a couple so the open concept doesn't bother us but if you were a group of friends it might be awkward. Just open a closet door and use that as a barrier if needed. They are certainly big enough. Lots of space in the closets to put your things. The safe is quite big. Held all of our gear with lots of space to spare. No tacky plastic resort bracelets here. Just a hand woven bracelet that you could wear anywhere. You could even take it off if heading to Playa or other shopping area so your resort isn't easily identifiable. The buffet and snack bar had plenty of choices even for someone like me who is incredibly fussy. I loved the ice cream. We also did the Rodizio twice. Really good both times. We tried to do the Gourmet unfortunately we picked a very busy night so ended up not going. The bars and pop-up bars are great. Never a challenge to find a place for a drink. I tried lots of different fruity ones...all yummy! Beach service and pool service also great. There is a spa, gym, yoga hut, massage and a whole slew of beauty and wellness services available. The beach is fantastic. They are constantly raking up the seaweed. It is the ocean so you can't stop it but they do a great job at managing it. People do save chairs and I did see stuff being removed by staff, which I thought was fantastic. I will say that most of the saved chairs were used. I didn't really notice that chairs were vacant for an excessive amount of time. There were busy times and not busy times. We always managed to find two. Funny thing was the towels, we bring our own so we didn't care, but people got really greedy with them. One person needs three towels? No, no they don't. I like the no towel cards here, hopefully these people don't ruin it for everyone. We did decide one day to use resort towels. We just went to the front desk to get them as the table near us was empty. Wasn't a big a deal. The evening entertainment we saw was fun. Lots of dancing, laughing and smiling. Sellers were there for a few hours one night. Not aggressive or pushy at all. There is a main pool in front of building 2 and infinity pools in front of 1, 3 and 4 if pools are your thing. We only went into a pool once, the one in front of our building, and had it all to ourselves. The beach is really what you're here for. To me, what makes this place a true standout is the staff. You are made to feel welcome the second you get out of your transfer (we used Canada Transfers). A friendly greeting from Luis was the prefect start to our vacation and a warm heartfelt handshake goodbye from Luis was the perfect way to end it. In between that time we met too many staff members who were just incredible to list them all. You might have had a morning where coffee was a little slow, but once you told them it didn't happen again. They want you to have a good experience and it shows. It is up to you to speak up politely when you need or want something. This is not an adults only resort so yes there are kids behaving like kids. They have every right to enjoy their stay as much as we do. Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort is friendly for all types of travelers. If you want adults only, book adults only. I have so much more I could say but I think you get that we really liked...no loved...this resort and it's staff. I always say that maybe we will go back to a place again not this time, I know we will be back. We did a few off resort activities which I will review separately. One of them was arranged for us by Tim at the Akumal Tours and Excursion desk at the resort. I highly recommend checking with them if you are looking for something to do. We wanted a half day ATV and no one was offering it. Tim got us in last minute on one which included Akumal Monkey Sanctuary, ATV driving and a cenote. Really happy with that! A couple little tips I would have would be, remember to treat people as you yourself expect to be treated. If you want to be treated kindly, you have to treat people kindly and with respect. A smile, 'Please, and 'Thank You' go a long way. The staff is here to help make your vacation as special as it can be, but it is up to you to make it everything it can be. Don't look for or dwell on the small things. Find your own solutions to make it work, don't wait for someone to do it for you. Lastly, live in the moment because before you know it that moment is over.

A Home Away From Home

From arrival to departure, everything at this hotel exceeded our expectations. The front reception was courteous and efficient. Our room wasn't ready but they checked us in and gave us directions to buffet for lunch. We were in building 3 on the ground floor steps from the beach. We dined at every restaurant except the Japanese and the food was delicious. We even had hot, cooked to order room service on our deck. The beach was clean and there were plenty of loungers. The drinks were delicious  [... read more]and beach service was outstanding. Make sure you snorkel off the beach in front of Secrets and swim with the turtles. I can't wait to go back!

Wonderful Time

The hotel grounds were beautifully maintained. The rooms were updated and very nice, we had a penthouse suite and the view from the roof top was amazing. The staff were spectacular, friendly and very helpful. One of the best beaches I have been to with plenty of loungers, no need to get up super early to reserve unless you wanted a Prime spot, upfront on the beach. Loved the Brazilian restaurant, we ate there twice, Mexican was good, Japanese was good but found the food a bit too salty for our tastes. Buffet always had something for everyone and we enjoyed eating there as well. The Grand kids loved the kiddie pool and the smaller infinity pools as well as the hammocks, they had a blast. I would definitely go back.

Highly recommended

Our group of eight family members recently stayed at the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for eight days. Overall, our experience was very positive. The rooms, staff, activities, food and evening entertainment were all very good to excellent - great value for the money. Our Trip Central agent, Jennifer Collard, who was fantastic, arranged for rooms for all of us in building 1, which was perfect for us. Collectively, we participated in the spin, yoga and aqua zumba classes, and did paddleboar [... read more]ding and a lot of snorkelling; it was wonderful to be able to snorkel right off the beach and see turtles, rays, squid and a wide variety of fish. We also did several side trips, and being able to catch the coletivo buses right outside the property was great - we were able to get to the Tulum ruins before it got crowded, and the bus fare ($3 per person each way) was very reasonable. I only have two minor complaints. The transfer from the airport to the hotel took about double the time that the staff on the bus told us - almost two hours. When there was a significant delay in entering one of the hotels where passengers were being dropped off, there was no explanation or apology. For the trip back to the airport, we booked a private transfer, which was well worth the money - we had an extra hour and a half at the hotel, so we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and had a much more pleasant ride. The other concern was about the specialty restaurants. Our group came from three widely separated locations, so it is very rare that we are able to spend time together. We were told that it was not possible to reserve a table for our group, and that we could only come to one of the restaurants at 6:00 (the opening time) to see if we could be seated together. At the Mexican restaurant, we arrived before 6:00, only to find that two other large groups had been given an advance reservation, and despite having plenty of empty tables, the staff refused to put them together for us. Worse than that, the staff at the French restaurant told us to come back in ten minutes, so that they could put together tables for us. We came back less than ten minutes later to find that they had put another group of eight where they were going to seat us. When we expressed disappointment with what they had done, they just shrugged, and as with the other restaurant, refused to put together tables for us. In both cases, we said that we would be fine with using just two tables for our group (which would not have reduced the capacity of the restaurant). We did not let these experiences negatively impact what was an overall very good impression of the resort.

Wonderful resort and agent!

Our agent Tina scibetta-Moore recommended the Akumel Bay Beach and Wellness resort and it was amazing on every level! Perfect location, gorgeous surroundings and wonderful ammenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My only complaint was the inability to make reservations at the restaurants as the wait times tended to be long.

Horror by beautiful Ocean

My Experience. First before I tell the cons which are many . Ill start with the pros- The hotel is right by the beach- ocean. The view is wonderful. I'd say the best rooms are the Penthouse. I really like my privacy so this was best. It's in my opinion for seniors or a very mature crowd. Really easy piano playing during breakfast with stunning views of the ocean . The resort was at the end of the strip so there wasn't to many Locals around( con- I don't trust the fact that locals can just come around) usually the resorts I stay at are gaurded. I ate mainly at Mexican restaurant an French for dinner . I didn't eat any sides on any hot tables Only boiled beets and requested mashed potatoes. French restaurant was very good. They boiled the Solomon before grilling it. That to me is a waste . I requested it be grilled. All fruits I washed and cut myself. I don't drink. And the only water I drank was bottled even though everyone drank the distilled water from the jugs. Breakfast I had oatmeal or omelette and pastrys that came fresh. Coffee was amazing so was the view from the buffet which is where we ate breakfast. I was terrible food poisoned which is why I was cautious to what I ate. Before I got sick, I had roasted pork a small portion from the buffet. It was good and I was fine. I ate fish prepared in front of me. This to me is a 4 star maybe. If you stick to these foods I listed. I was there for 9 days. The room even though was a penthouse was nice but as you read not kept . Apparently the hotel is 25 years old. And up until 1.5 years they only had one restaurant. All the other hotels along the strip had tons tons of locals, and so many people looking like a party. Secrets , bhaia and so on. We liked tower 3 because in front of us there we're lots of rocks and unable to swim. We spent a lot of time together on our private terrace looking into the ocean. Not an obstructed view and we are convinced that's why it was quiter, and no locals. Because of the rocks and the inability to just come out and swim. The ones that made it to us we're nicer looking little families .my concern is safety . I also am not a party person. But my fiancée was totally appauled of the selection of food. He felt limited . I agree. I spoke Spanish this helped. The best service was at the Mexican restaurant and French. Holi was so very sweet at the Mexican restaurant. Really set a great 5 star ton. We loved the guacamole. There was also an older gentlemen at the buffet that seemed to show the others how to conduct themselves, as they seemed unserviceable. We were able to see beautful fish just snorkelling outside And a big turtle eating . Ocean was magical. Now for the country cons! When we arrived at the hotel. They claimed they had zero knowledge that I requested the 3rd tower. They want d to put us in the 1st which was by the pool. If you like little action then that's the tower. We like peace and quiet. The room was not cleaned. The jacuzzi tub was filled with hairs. Small curly hair- I believe it was pubic hair Not bugs or flys or a long hair. The slippers they tried to give us were used!!!! Not in the plastic.The bed was broken , the corner by the head rest the foot was very loose. The umbrella outside was broken. The sliding doors to outside didn't close properly. So outside air was always whistling in. And there where stains on the couch and side of the bed. I wanted to cry!!! I had just been proposed to. This was supposed to Be romantic . I asked for the manger to come up, as I already called for a repair man and a cleaning lady to please come up with products and bleach. He came to fix the umbrella outside which was broken . He told me he fixed the jacuzzi also. I explained it was filthy I asked both in Spanish and English for a cleaner to come. She never came so I asked the manger to come up! . Zenia came and was shocked at the room. I explained how can they allow this, I explained if they brought me bleach I can disinfect the tub. serious illness can arise from this and if they didn't understand this the first time around . They offered another room. But the other room the TV was the size of a small microwave. We didn't want to haul our stuff and were just sissapointes at this waste of time and what we got for the big bucks we spent. How could this be a 4 star. This was the lowest rating we we have ever gone to. We usually stay at the Hilton She said she will make sure the room is clean. We showed her the open door that will not close allowing air in. We turned on the Tv in our room . She realized if the volume went up a strong buzzing sound came out. When we came back the room was stocked with actually beach towels and slippers in plastic. Also the bed foot was repaired and they actually cleaned the room and give us unused everything ! They also put a tint on our screen, we felt it allowed too much light threw the bathroom which is all open concept , we didn't want to be woken up. As when we work we begin at 7:30 am- this is our vacation. We appreciate the tint. They also bought up chocolate covered strawberries . We felt this is how it should have been upon entrance- after all this was the penthouse suite! 3 days later I was food poisoned . It's was almost 11:00 am . I went to there 24 restaurant and asked for a burger to be grilled up. They said no they could not. It's still breakfast and pointed to the hot tables. I said I didn't want that food, please grill a burger as its a 24 hour restaurant and burger is on the menu. He said they didn't have, then he said ok. He went to the back and few moments came back w a pale burger. I cut it on the side. It was not cooked. I asked him to place this on the grill for longer . A second later he came out with a very dark grilled burger I asked if it was fresh? Bc it wasn't the one he gave me and I thought they said they didn't have any. He nodded said it was fresh! I had this and a juice. I got fruit cut up on the display tables. I got terribly sick. I had fevers chills and was in tears in convulsions throwing up and diarrhea. I was in so much pain. I wasn't able to eat anything for some days. Only rice , A few days later I woke up my body very very sore. I have s knot in my neck from the bed and the constant draft blowing in. We had cooler nights. I was thinking to get a massage for my very sore body. I called Sunday front desk and asked for tea, boiled water with lemon on the side and if they can bring Me fruits uncut. Like a fruits basket or even a Papaya or mango, plums. He said they could not.. I asked that they please do this I haven't eaten and I Can't eat food that has been handled or left out. I wanted to wash it myself. He said he wasn't able to, hours later no tea came . No hot water came . Nothing. I was so disappointed and so is my fiancée , we paid over $$$$$ in air plane seat upgrades, I didn't have the desire to spend more money even though my body was so beaten up from my sickness and the terrible bedding. I had an accident in the bed, because of the trauma my body endured, I was pushed into menstruation almost two weeks early !!!! I was very healthy. My body was not able to handle this constant vomiting . So I began to bleed. When we checked the bed we noticed faint stains, we wondered if they cleaned the sheets. They did they are so thin!!! The stains where from the terrible mattress liner that had not been changed. The sheets are practically see threw so the stains are still present. I am appalled! Further more, we arrived Monday . Tuesday I was there at 9;00 am as this is when I was supposed to meet Sunwing rep to let them know I DO need a ride to the airport. As this was our responsibility to do so, they were late . I waited and when I asked her about the tour to chichen Itza , that I was all amped up to see the night light show and take the all day excusion I had heard about ! The Sunwing rep said this hotel doesn't offer it . And the train was because the buses stop coming back at 5;00 pm and we would have to stay there overnight and get a room there. She advised we contact them ourselves. I realized then something was wrong with this hotel! It took four days to get a hold of another rep! They weren't on site ever!! On the Friday we were offered a trip to Coba and Talum with lunch for $88 U.S. From the tours on site The Sunwing nexus rep says they offer it for $145.00 with Nexus. We went with the other company. On another occasion I asked for hot water for tea and the man said no!! I said what!!!! Are you the man that didn't bring me my tea last time!!! He said ok we will send it up! Be warned. Yes the beach is lovely . But it wasn't worth what we spent. This is how we felt. Maybe if I wasn't so sick and the penthouse was clean and the doors closed and not let wind in , and I didn't hurt my neck with the draft. But it was slot if money for such a tight selection of everything .
