VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Best resort beach, food and staff!
It was our first time at VH Gran Ventana and definitely will not be our last! The beach is crystal clear with beautiful tropical fish swimming around us. The food is absolutely superb! The rooms could do with an update, but on an all inclusive you don’t spend much time in your room anyhow! Our maid did an excellent job everyday, we never needed any towels and our mini fridge was well stocked. Staff are warm, friendly and really make you feel welcome! Andrea at the pool lounge bar makes the best[... read more] iced coffee! One small improvement would be to add more umbrellas to the pool and beach areas. We are already planning to return next year!

The hotel was nice and the food was good
The room service was pretty bad they encourage you to use the hotel app which didn't work and when I told them it didn't work they were rude about it insisting that it worked
Some of the employees were pretty rude and they would forget things when you order room service
The beach and the pool was very nice

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Would Not Return
While I had a great time spending the week with family and friends, several aspects of this resort left me disappointed.
One challenge was the language barrier, as very few staff members spoke English fluently. That said, the staff were always kind and genuinely tried their best to understand and assist, which I appreciated. In hindsight, I probably should have brushed up on some Spanish before travelling.
The rooms were clean, but they felt very outdated and could definitely use renovatio[... read more]ns. Storage space was limited, with very little drawer space for clothing, and several drawers were difficult to open and close. Another major issue was the lack of hot water, which made showering uncomfortable throughout the stay.
The food was average and not particularly memorable, and the entertainment team did not seem very engaging or interactive with guests.
My biggest disappointment, however, was the beach and ocean. The water was murky and not inviting, likely due to a nearby river flowing into the area. Unfortunately, I had to pay for an excursion elsewhere just to enjoy clearer saltwater and a better beach experience.
Overall, although I still enjoyed my vacation because of the people I was with, this is not a resort I would personally recommend, nor would I choose to return to it in the future.

Dreams Cap Cana Resort and Spa: Not Worth It
The hotel is clean, the restaurants are very good, and most of the staff are friendly and genuinely try to go out of their way to help guests. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the concierge, who responded to my questions as though I was inconveniencing her.
We also paid extra for the Preferred upgrade, and I would not choose it again at this resort. There did not appear to be many meaningful differences between Preferred and non-Preferred guests. The Preferred restaurant frequently [... read more]ran out of food items and condiments, forcing us to eat at the buffet instead, and the same issue occurred at the Preferred bar. The Preferred lounge was underwhelming, and the Preferred pool was accessible to all guests.
Another disappointment was the beach access, which required about a 600-metre walk.
One of the biggest concerns was the hotel’s constant requirement for guests to provide their room number — during activities, at restaurants and buffets, and in other areas throughout the resort. This policy did not reflect an inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities who may struggle to remember room numbers. My brother, who has an intellectual disability, was unable to participate in activities and was even refused food on one occasion because he could not provide his room number.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Amazing Resort
I loved the resort! Felt like I was in Europe. The entertainment and staff 10/10.
The rooms cleaned and kept in order daily.
The special order of balloons for my friend’s birthday done beautifully and she was totally surprised. Shout out to Javier for his assistance and patience.
Food and serving buffets awesome too, one thing I was disappointed in was no single serving container yogurts. Severs amazing and happy ? .
Beach front the best, water shallow and really warm, disappointed having t[... read more]o get up at 5.30 to get an umbrella.
Mikes coffee shop the best!
Disappointed in the cocktail drinks, I’ve had better; there was an after taste in almost every one k tried so I stuck to water/beer or coffee.
Loved the spa too!
Loved the family oriented environment.
The entertainers made my evenings!!!
No 24 hour restaurant if you arrive late like I did.
Thank you to all the staff.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Okay resort
I did like the resort. Everything close by. Rooms clean but outdated. Beautiful beach. Food plentiful and lots of variety. What did ruin the Damien our trip was that during the week the hotel has cruise ship people coming in anywhere between 30-100 people almost daily. Also no entertainment between 1130-330. Then very little. On the weekends the locals come in which is fine but they do seem to take over everything. We were unable to even get a chair with shade. Pool was like a can of sardi[... read more]nes. No one anywhere gives out this information. The staff are amazing and friendly and hardworking. Tip well and you will get even better service and attention. We had the premium package and yet the locals were the ones being catered too. I would not return to this resort as I prefer adults only. Seemed great for families.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Made Us Miss Cuba – Not the Experience We Hoped For
We recently spent 10 days at this resort, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience did not meet our expectations.
To start with the positives, the food was consistently good in both quality and variety. There was always plenty to choose from, and we especially enjoyed the fresh papaya and pineapple daily—both were excellent. Unfortunately, mangoes were not yet in season. The resort offers three à la carte restaurants, all of which had great menu options. During our stay, w[... read more]e were able to book 9 evenings of à la carte dining, which was impressive and added nicely to the experience.
The rooms, particularly in the adults-only section, were another highlight. This area consists of two buildings with access to a more private, quieter environment. We hadn’t originally booked this upgrade, but chose to purchase it upon arrival—and we are very glad we did. It made a noticeable difference, as this section was significantly more peaceful compared to the rest of the resort.
However, this brings me to one of the major downsides. From the moment we arrived, we were constantly approached by staff trying to upsell various upgrades and services. This level of persistent selling was something we had never experienced before at a resort and found quite irritating.
Another key issue was the overall atmosphere, particularly on weekends. The resort primarily caters to local Dominican guests, and during weekends, we found ourselves in the minority. While we respect that everyone wants to enjoy their vacation, the short-term nature of these stays seemed to result in a much louder, more party-focused environment. At times, it was so disruptive that we did not feel comfortable using our balcony, and even the private pool area became overcrowded and very noisy. This made it difficult to relax, which is ultimately what we were looking for.
The resort layout and amenities were also lacking. The lobby is quite small and becomes very crowded during peak check-in and check-out times. Unlike many other resorts, there is no proper lobby bar. In fact, the only main bar is located by the pool, and all drinks are served in paper cups. There is no dedicated space to sit comfortably, enjoy a drink in proper glassware, or socialize in a relaxed setting—something we have always appreciated in other destinations, particularly in Cuba.
Evening entertainment was underwhelming. Over the course of 10 days, we only attended three shows, as they were mediocre at best. Outside of that, there was little to no evening activity, so most nights we found ourselves returning to our room shortly after dinner.
The beach experience was also disappointing due to constant and at times aggressive vendors. There was ongoing pressure to purchase braids, pedicures, and various trinkets, which made it difficult to fully relax. Additionally, the Air Transat representative was on vacation for five days during our stay, with coverage provided by phone only, leaving guests without support during that time.
Overall, while the resort has some positive aspects—notably the food and the adults-only section—we would not recommend it based on our experience. We truly missed the level of comfort, atmosphere, and hospitality we’ve experienced in Cuba, which in our view offers a much more refined, relaxing, and enjoyable resort experience.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Very disappointed
This was our second time at this resort and very disappointed.
As a premium package holder that was fine never had issues with chairs at the beach the staff there was amazing.
Rooms were fine but yes need upgrades.
Food was great.
The Italian à la carte was very disappointing we were totally ignored. We waited 1/2 hours between dishes and ppl that came after us were served and done before we got our main course.
This resort now lets in cruise ship passengers and it gets over crowded al[... read more]so the locals and the paying guest are now over seen. The entertainment needs a lot of work there is no excitement in the staff. There is no music playing and they don’t allow speakers so the atmosphere is boring. They also could use more umbrellas around the deck. Overall I would not return.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Overall good time!
Bahia Principe La Romana is a beautiful resort overall, especially the grounds — they are absolutely stunning and very well maintained. The rooms are nice at first glance, but once you spend some time in them you can definitely tell they are dated and there are quite a few imperfections.
The food was good with lots of variety and plenty of options to choose from, although I was hoping for more authentic Dominican food during the stay.
One of the biggest disappointments for me was the ocean[... read more]. I had done a lot of research beforehand and kept hearing that La Romana had some of the best ocean views and water in the Dominican Republic, but that honestly wasn’t my experience. If I return to the DR, I would probably stay closer to Punta Cana instead.
Another thing worth mentioning is that there were communication barriers at times since many of the workers didn’t speak much English. Everyone was friendly, but it occasionally made things difficult.
Overall, we still had a good trip thanks to the beautiful property and solid food options, but there are definitely some areas that could be improved.

Well kept resort. Clean rooms. Swim up room is very fun to have. Food is very good. They do serve Coors Light, amazing ! The only thing we did not like is people ''reserving'' chairs at the beach and at the pool very early in the morning, and they use them around 9 or 10am. Very frustrating !

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Unfortunately we had a very bad experience at the Roylton Chic.
Staffing - while some staff were great, shoutout to Raul, a great deal were not friendly. It was like we were bothering them.
Food - this was a great disappointment. First dinner steakhouse, my wife had the Chicken brochette. Chicken pieces were so overcooked you could not eat it. Next morning we had a pickup at 9:30 to play golf. Went to the Diamond club for breakfast. Arrived at 8:45, ordered breakfast right away. Did not arri[... read more]ve and had to leave at 9:25 to catch our taxi. There was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant.
Next night in the Italian, I ordered what was described as a variety of fresh fish. It was deep fried group of fish pieces that were so over cooked that tasted terrible. Then we had lunch at the beach restaurant. We ordered chicken wings, taco salad and a Caesar salad. The chicken wings sat under the warming lights for 30 minutes waiting for the salads. We had to ask the waiter what was the delay. He advised the cook was new and learning. Then we watched the cook and waiter use their bare hands to prepare the salads. We decided at that point to the leave the resort. We met with the Sunwing representative on sighr to file a formal complaint. That person Dubby was very good and assisted us wanting to know all the issues. We them met with the manager of the property to review our issues. We made arrangements to move to another resort. In 35 years of travelling, we have never left a resort due to issues. Sunning refunded us for the days we were on at the Royalton Chic but lost a full day of our vacation moving to the other resort. T
