Nice resort

Beautiful pool area with lots aof room, chairs and space. Set high on a cliff great view. A bit of a challendge to access thebeach as you have to walk over a sand dune and down a bit of a cliff. Beach nice, shares with Iberostar next door. Rooms nice, not smelly, àhowever lacks ammenties as advertised such as room service ( asked 3 people for a menu and never appeared. Advertises in room coffee makers but no coffee to be found EVEN when trying to buy some from the maids. No hot water 2 day [... read more]s, no face clothes 2 days. Advertises 5 resturants however only 1 open every night and a wait to get in. Leaves lots of empty tables for priviledge members. Staff very friendly and try to do their best with what they have. Entertainment was very good in the lobby every night. Worst staff ever in the coffee shop, always sitting down and on their phone. 7 types of drinks on menu but all taste the same. Buffett never changes lunch or supper.

2nd time and worth every penny

Hotel rooms were well kept - Service at the Privilege was TOP notch... beach was gorgeous! Food was great. Drinks were great as well! The view over the water was one of the best I have seen and the location was close to the hotel and a quick can ride to Varadero

Boring!

The hotel pools closed quite early - 6 pm. Limited selection of drinks at bars after pools closed. There were limited activities for quests to get involved in - it was actually quite boring. The beach area was very small and bordered by rock on one side and the next hotel on the other. No in room drinks (coffee, water or alcohol). Top blankets were dirty/stained.

Ocean Vista Azul - Good Hotel, great beach

The hotel was conveniently located not too far from the airport. It is right on the beach. There are lots of loungers on the beach and at the pool, so saving a chair in the morning with a towel wasn't necessary. A bar and washroom facilities were also nearby for the beach and pool. Unfortunately, there were only 2 restaurants and the buffet open each night, which meant it was difficult to get into a restaurant and we had to eat buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner most days. The buffet got b [... read more]oring! The food served in the buffet was fine. Highly recommend you bring your own salt, pepper and spices to enhance the flavours. The rooms were clean and minimal, no coffee maker, but we asked and they sent one to the room. In general, the hotel is run down, chipped paint, damaged doors, damaged tables in the restaurants. But you get what you pay for.

A very good resort

This hotel was excellent. The location was perfect. It was very clean and the food was goo. I would definitely recommend it to other people. The time of year we went was also good because it was not too busy. the staff were friendly and helpful.

Great resort

Loved this resort. It is fairly new. The beds were comfortable. Our maid Leysi was excellent. Wifi was resort wide which was a nice surprise. The food was quite good. Good selection with many dishes well done. Seafood was excellent. The staff was friendly, very helpful and provided good service. The only negative was the bar fridge was suppose to be stocked daily with beer and pop. Never saw any beer except one day when I happened to have returned to the room when the fridge was being stocked a [... read more]nd I asked for the beer which was on the cart. I even tipped the worker thinking it might be in the fridge the next day and it wasn’t.

Not what we expected.

The food was terrible (even by Cuba standards) and lacked creativity, therefore resulting in the exact same food each day at each meal. Staff were more focused on tips than genuine customer service. Very little attention was paid to those who did not speak Spanish or provide large tips daily. The alcohol seemed to be watered down as it was completely tasteless. The beach bar on the large beach is way too far from the beach area. Would definitely recommend people bring their own large cup or bubba so they don't have to walk such a long distance for drinks as frequently. The pool was good. Very clean and well taken care of, however the resort could definitely benefit from additional umbrellas. There were none unless you asked for one, and we only learned this by observing others doing this. The umbrellas should just be readily available. The room decor was good and the rooms were relatively clean. Smelled musty but better on higher floors. The resort grounds were well maintained and getting around was easy as the resort was not very big.

Beautiful Resort

Hello there, my family and I really enjoyed Ocean Vista. We stayed in number 5 bungalow and the stay where clean and I like the swan that on my bed. The entertainment was wonderful and food. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Won’t go again.

First let me start by saying I’ve never done a review before and usually don’t bother but I felt I needed to make others aware of our experience so that they could be forewarned. Ocean Vista Azul was our recommended hotel. It was our first trip to Cuba and we knew going in based on what friends had said that the food probably wouldn’t be very good. The plane arrived late so we got to the hotel after 1 AM and the only available food was hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza or fries. The room we stayed in was clean but the hallway to it was poorly lit due to burnt out bulbs (all over the resort) so finding our room number took a bit of effort. We managed to eat à la cart for most dinners and the food was decent. The breakfast and lunch buffets had very little to choose from that we considered good. If you go, I would suggest getting something freshly cooked. There was an outdoor barbeque near the beach where they had chicken and seafood but the lobster was tainted and my wife got food poisoning. Throughout our stay, the resort constantly ran out of items. They had no buns for burgers or hotdogs on a couple of days, no fruit for smoothies, no clean beach towels so we were using dirty ones from days before. They ran out of cups at the bar next to the pool more than once so they had no drinks unless you used a cup you had from earlier. They also ran out of mixer for some of the drinks. I’ve been to many all-inclusive resorts and never seen anything like it. Maybe it was Cuba, maybe it was the hotel chain, maybe it was the management of this particular hotel. I don’t know but there’s no way I would recommend this hotel to anyone. On our last day the checkout time was noon but our flight didn’t leave until late that evening. We asked for a courtesy room to clean up and were given one for 30 minutes which I was happy to get except for the fact that when we got there, there were no towels to dry ourselves with and when we went back to the front desk and requested them, the maid came a few minutes later with small towels that smelled like stinky socks. You might think I’m exaggerating but I’m truly not. We have decided that Cuba and the hotel chain that is associated with Ocean Vista Azul are off our list for future travel. I hope this experience helps someone to make a smart decision before booking. Good luck!

Great vacation

We like resort but beach is little far especially for people with disabilities. I had bad experience first morning when using stairs on the beach injured baby toe in the sharp rocks under sand. Still in the pain. Rooms are great. Food is ok can not be hungry. Beach is nice.

Modern newer resort

Suite was well maintained and cleaned. Food and bars had very good service. Beach excellent. Bonus was having an Infinity pool. Entertainment excellent. Front desk very efficient. Second time there and not my last. No disappointments.

Beautiful, but could easily have been sooooo much better.

Based on the reviews and the photos, and the research I did months in advance of our arrival, I was expecting the best of the best. This was my fifth visit to Varadero, previously staying at Breezes Varadero and Brisas del Caribe in 1998, Breezes Varadero in 2000, Melia Las America in 2008, and Paradisus Princessa del Mar in 2010. I choose to stay in Varadero, rather than exploring the other resort destinations in Cuba, specifically so I can travel to Havana for a day. This was a trip for me  [... read more]and my two sons, ages 18 and 13 to enjoy together. They had not been, and in 2010, I promised them the next time I travelled to Cuba, I would bring them. We were all excited and looking forward to the “5-star” experience promised by Ocean Vista Azul. Let me be clear, there was nothing bad about our experience. I simply feel they fell short on really simple and standard things. Some examples: - a complete lack of information or branded materials in the rooms. No instructions pamphlet for what to do with towels, room service, events schedule, etc. no pen/notepad. It was very bizarre. I asked our sweet chamber maid Mireiny, if these things had simply not been placed in our room prior to check-in, and she confirmed they don’t have anything like that. Weird. - no fresh flowers on the dining tables, despite the grounds being LUSH with flowers. Would have been an easy and sweet touch. - no live music during dinner times, anywhere. And barely any music at all. - lack of activities other than a few pool or beach games each afternoon - no English speaking people at reception or guest services when you call. I always had to go to the front desk to ask a simple question. -never any sunscreen in the teeny shop. If I ran a shop at a 5-star resort and a customer came in one day looking for sunscreen, I would be sure to have some—even if I had to buy it myself—the next day. Seems like they really missed the boat on that one! -sadly, most of the service staff seemed uninterested in engaging with the guests. This was so opposite from every experience I have ever had before. The exception being the staff whose specific job it is to engage: bar staff, entertainers. The staff pouring beverages and working the a la carte restaurants all seemed somewhat dull. A smile and “hola!” would have gone a long way. -pools close at 6pm. They don’t strictly enforce it at the main pool, but the infinity pool guards kick you out. That’s such a shame, as the sunset there is spectacular, and being in the pool at that time was like being in heaven! - while I don’t expect much from the food in Cuba, I have never complained about it, until now. The food here was the worst I have ever had. Unidentifiable, even with the name tags. Seafood like shrimp and lobster should have been juicy and moist, and was over cooked and tougher than rawhide. Even the a la carte meals were pretty awful. We eventually found our groove and stuck to the salad items, pasta bar, rice, beans, and took a few chances with meats, which in some cases, were delicious. - outside of mealtimes, it was difficult to find something to eat. The poolside snack bar served burgers, hotdogs and fries, but the wait was long, the regular girl didn’t speak English and was grumpy, and you don’t always want to eat burgers, hotdogs and fries! Somewhere to find chips, salsa, fruits, etc. any time of day would have been really nice. Overall, I would give OVA a 3.5 out of 5. The highlights were the infinity pool (gorgeous), the pool bar staff (Yos, Livia, Lisbet), and the view (although there were several oil tankers out front every day, but that’s out of the resort’s control). Would I go back? Probably not. To date, Melia Las Americas has been the most stunning, however it is 18+. At this point, for my next trip to Cuba, I am considering flying into Havana and booking an AirBnB or trying one of their classic or new hotels. 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇺

Great resort

We have booked the Privilege and were very happy with all the extras we got - room service, privilege restaurant and bar, check out at 2:00pm Loved the beach - breath taking, crystal clear water. Everyone is talking about the food - yes, definately they can improve, for example, very low on vegetables and fruits.

All we hoped it would be

The rooms were clean, the ocean and beach were gorgeous, the pool area was amazing. The food was also very good. Would be happy to return. The staff was very helpful and kind. The pool and snack bar were also excellent

Awesome Resort!!

My sister and I were at this resort from June 10th to 15th. We absolutely Loved it! The Resort is beautiful, very clean, the staff were super friendly, the food was great, and the beach was beautiful! We were a little bit hesitant to choose this place because we thought the beach would be rocky, but they have a beach on both sides of the resort. The beach to the right is big, sandy and gorgeous! There was a big selection. The beef was my favorite. Very flavorful and tender. Their bread was amazing too! I must say that this is the best resort I have been to and I can't wait to return!!

Amazing

We had an amazing trip to Ocean Vista Azul. It was our first time to Cuba and our expectations were blown away from service to food. The pool bar was a lot of fun, Yosi, Yeni! Mayrelia and Livia made great drinks. We will be returning in the future.

Stunning Resort!

My boyfriend & I stayed at this resort from May 3rd-9th it was a birthday trip for myself.. everything about this resort is absolutely stunning everything is so well kept & modern .. the people are the sweetest .. the Infiniti pool Infront of the lobby is gorgeous.. the buffets are good.. the rooms are huge with a king sized bed & glass stand up shower.. the pina coladas are so yummy & the lobby bar makes the BEST iced coffee in the morning! If I had to choose one thing that would be a downfall it would be that the beach is a little small still stunning but a little small.. you need to take a taxi if you want to go off the resort ( 15 pesos ) and if you want the cabanas you need to wake up extra early because they’re never free but all around it’s a BEAUTIFUL RESORT! I’ll be returning 100000%

The resort is not a 5 star, i would say that it is a 3 1/2 star

To start off the beach is too far from the ground, the one on the far right should have some accomodations like washroom etc. the one on the left is way to small and crowded. The restaurants you should take reservations and the host should be more friendly. Also the buffet restaraunt were do i begin... to start off you had to go begging for a spoon, not enough tongs to get the food. They did not refill the food quick enough or the dishes. The staff needs to be more friendly. When you are sitting in the lobby the staff instead of asking if you want anything to drink they just walk around If a drink is on the menu they should have the stuff to make it or else take it off Also more people should be at the bar serving. I have been to Cuba multiply times and this was not a very nice experience

Nice resort

The resort was beautiful areas was also great the room cleaner was amazing but the front desk agent wasn’t to pleasant they could of been more friendly the bartender was amazing loved the fast service

Front desk attendants wernt nice , the cleaners were amazing , i had 3 favorite bartenders Amauray , Alahundro & Alberto . didnt like the wifi situation a 1.00 a hour and the wifi only worked for certain websites . Other then that i would go back to this resort
