We had a good time at this resort but i will include an honest review of it. The resort is close to the airport so a quick shuttle and you are there. There are planes that fly over the resort but they only last maybe 5 seconds and there are not that many. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. The resort itself is very compact so there is always lots of people everywhere. The restaurants were good with the steakhouse our favourite and the Kulinarium our least favourite(lobster w [... read more]as not great and beef was just ok.) Pumpkin soup was very good. All a la cartes are first come first served but we did all of them and only waited a short time for 2. Buffet has a moderate selection and there is always something to eat. Chef's night has grilled lobster - very tasty. Bars serve brand name alcohol and there are blender drinks and redstripe and red stripe light on tap. Most people queued up and when they asked who is next would indicate the next person with a few jumping ahead. The jerk hut only served jerk chicken (no pork) and sides. Flavour was not what i am used too (too sweet) but there was some pepper sauce which brought it around. Our room was mountain view and was quiet. There is a fan in the room which eliminated the need for a/c. Bathroom has double sinks and a frosted glass wall between the shower and the main room. Annoying at night if your partner gets up, turns on the light and you are a light sleeper. Has the standard Riu mini bar and it is restocked every other day. There was enough channels on the tv and included a few HBO channels. The beach is not very big but you can walk through the Palace to the riu mo bay which adds a bit to it. Sand can be coarse and muddy/weedy the more you go out. Swimming area is small and there is very little to see when snorkelling. They don't want you going out of the designated area. The pools are like swimming in a fountain they are about 3' deep. They are advertised as infinity pools but to get the infinity effect you would have to submerge part of your face and ignore the chairs in front of you. One person was injured entering the pool from the beach side. Transitions are very uneven or large steps from pool deck to beach. Watersports were good and included stand up paddle boarding and were always in use but you did not have to wait long or at all at times. The vibe is very much a party hotel. We had fun but it was too tight with all the people in such a small area. Would i recommend it - if you are into a party place and catch a deal and what i have noted works for you then yes. If you are looking for "luxurious adult's only"(straight from the brochure) then no. Depends what you are expecting.

4 1/2 star hotel with beautiful beach

Stayed at Riu Reggae Jan.31-Feb.7. We've stayed at more than 10 all-inclusives in Jamaica, Mayan Riviera, Punta Cana, Bahamas. We always book 5 star rated resorts. The hotel is one of the smallest ones we've stayed at so everything was within minutes of your room which was really convenient. The resort is brand new and everything is super clean. Both infinity pools are right on the sand so your pool area is not separated from the beach/ocean. The Entertainment staff at the pool are funny, friendly, and do everything to make your vac, enjoyable. The beach is beautiful; the water was turquoise and warm but it was very cloudy so you couldn't snorkel. Food is great (had lobster 3 times) but the seating in the restaurants is awful; the tables are so close to each other your almost touching elbows with people on either side of you (no privacy) Didn't like having no reservations for dinner; had to line up at 6:00 for 6:30 dinner.There are only 3 a-la-carte restaurants because Bamboo (chinese food) is buffet. Rooms are very basic and small with no toiletries, no room service and no bathtub/jacuzzi; no idea how Reggae got a 5 star rating.Housekeeping was great; room was immaculate. Each bar was upscale with drink menus; bartenders all pleasant and happy to make you any martini or specialty cocktail. No cafe but cappuccino and lattes were avail at any bar or the main buffet. We stayed at Luxury Grand Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Jamaica last year and it was a true 5 star and we preferred it over Reggae. Great loc only 5 minutes from the airport. Shows at night were good. We had a great vacation and would return if the price was right. Book a courtyard room over a garden room. Weather everyday was sunny and in the high 80's.

Dream Vacation

We had an amazing time at the Riu Reggae!! Staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. The resort was clean and well organized. Food was delicious and we loved that you didn't have to make reservations for the restaurants. Evening shows were top notch. Thank you Riu Reggae for making our vacation amazing!!

Not a 5 star for sure

POSITIVES: hotel was very clean and nice that it was brand new can't say enough about how great the staff were pool was nice beach was pretty nice size of resort was perfect rooms were a nice size and stocked well close to the airport jerk chicken hut was delish! WHY WE WONT RETURN: hotel view was a barb wire fence-ridiculous for the price paid! very crowded (although always enough chairs for everyone) almost tripping over each other music was super loud - [... read more]and we like a good party but was hard to hear each other talk in the pool and the second pool had different music going at the same time , just as loud the way they seat the restaurants is ridiculous...reservations would help alleviate the frustration with lining up at 6:30 and then NOT getting in so we ended up at the buffet 4 of the nights which again for the price of the trip was not acceptable house wine was terrible and the bottled red wine that we purchased was chilled we have travelled many times and don't mind paying decent money but expected more from this resort-definitely not a 5 star , maybe a 3.5 star in our opinion

Luv luv luv Riu Reggae

Attended Feb 3rd to 10th Every staff member was friendly, talkative and goal oriented so each visitor was happy and had a great time. All amenities in close proximity from ocean beach, pool, restaurants, entertainment . Some really great entertainment staff with different activities daily, loved them. Rooms cleaned daily, very functional staff always cleaning constantly. Lovely resort

This is a lovely new resort. The staff is very friendly and they work very hard to keep everything clean and make you feel welcome. The evening shows are very good. This is a small resort so everything is very accessible. Take a cab ride with crackers from the cab station and enjoy a wonderful tour of Montego Bay. Only recommendation is that front desk staff take a tour of their own facilities to familiarize themselves with the location of rooms so as to give accurate information to guests.

Sparkling Clean

We really enjoyed our time at the Reggae. The grounds, rooms and restaurants were sparkling clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good. Our only recommendation would be to have a nice chair in the bedroom for reading instead of the table and 2 chairs that were there. Also a place to hang towels in the bathroom after a shower.

Small Convenient Extremely Clean Resort:)

We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks - Jan. 23 - Feb.6, 2017. We have been travelling to all inclusive resorts for the past 17 years. This resort is extremely close to the airport. First stop on the way in and last stop on the way out which we loved. We did not have to travel for 2 hours on a bus to get to our destination. I'd rather be on the beach than on a bus. Being a small resort everything was very convenient. The food was delicious and lots of variety. Lots to drink and bartenders always ready to serve not waiting for a tip even though one was provided frequently:) They work hard long hours. There was a busy entertainment side of the beach and a more quiet side but both were in close proximity. Our room was 2129 overlooking the "garden" but actually a mangrove. To me, this was the perfect room as we did have somewhat of an ocean view and no noise from what I consider a very noisy resort because of the small layout. The staff were MORE than wanting to help with anything anytime. My biggest disappointment were the a la carte restaurants???? Where were they??? Only one really the others were buffet service. May as well go to the full-service buffet. Extremely disappointed as I hate buffet service for dinner. I look forward to enjoying a slow quiet relaxing dining experience. You well definitely not find this here. The restaurants are EXTREMELY LOUD and only one has full a la carte service and that restaurant is very noisy as well. The resort is very safe and no hassle from vendors or Jamaicans wanting to sell their goods. This is definitely not a 5 star resort. No top shelf liquors, no beach service, no room service, truly only one a la carte restaurant. I would say this resort is over priced for what we thought is a 5 star all adult resort.

Alright Resort

I've been traveling to Jamaica for 19 yrs now, This resort is not a 5 star resort. We were given a new room because phone was not working only to get in new room and have same issues. No reservations for restaurants was not a good idea, we were unable to try the restaurants. People were friendly, which is a normal thing for Jamaica. Would not return to this resort in the future.

Reggae Fun

This adults only resort offers a great time for those that chose to have fun while offering the choice of having a relaxing vacation also. Fantastic entertainment and recreation staff. Very clean environment, all areas of the hotel were kept clean. Bartenders all have entertaining qualities, cheerful and fun to be around. Dining and food variety was outstanding, although there is a wait time at the restaurant. Buffet meals were very tasteful and always offered lots of choices. Beach was a l [... read more]ittle small but lounges are always available. More beach area available if you walk over to the adjoining resort Montego Bay.

Great time, great party, great people and fabulous weather!

Restaurants: all restaurants in this hotel served fantastic food. No reservations needed for the A la Carts, guests are required to get there before 6:30 to lineup to get in. Not a problem. The buffets was also excellent, never a problem finding a table, and never a problem finding something good to eat...seafood to pasta, to breads (awesome bread btw), from international cuisine to Jamaican cuisine. The grounds, were clean yet there seemed be a lot of finishing still to be done. Tiles were being replaced throughout week, walls being repainted, which is understandable for a new resort. What I found a little odd is the tiling in the bar pool, for a hotel that is only a little over two month old, the pool already needed to be repaired, which is likely a big job and will require the pool to be drained and shut down for a few days. The hotel grounds are not very big, the pool and the beach are almost on top of each other, the beach is pretty small. However, the entertainment staff and available watersports more than made up for it...weather permitting we played beach volleyball, sailed hobby waves, used the paddleboards and played water polo. For anyone going to this resort the staff does fabulous tie-dye on the beach so bring a white t-shirt. This is truly a party resort, it is very loud but everyone had a great time. The evening entertainment was only ok. The music was too loud I had a difficult time talking to my wife and friends in between the shows. The best show we saw during our week was the steel drum band, they were fantastic. We had a garden view room, the room was clean and very modern, however the garden view room as is indicated in other reviews, is a view of the concrete wall and fence, so more of a standard room. However, it isn't so bad if your staying on the second floor as you look over the fence and onto the forest. Proximity to the airport is great about 10 minutes, however it has it's cons too, the hotel is right over the flight path of planes taking off, so expect upwards to 10 planes or so to pass over the resort. This was not an issue when in our room. The entire staff is extremely pleasant.

The Reggae Riu was just great!...A new adults only modern all inclusive resort!

The staff were all amazing!!....The food was just great! The entertainment was excellent....pools and beaches were really nice too! We could walk on the beach at the Riu Palace to the Riu Montego Bay...but the other resorts could not come to ours. It was a good size...not too big and actually felt small. Would have liked the lobby bar to have a piano player more often...He was there one evening and we enjoyed dancing in the lobby!...The only complaint was at the Montego Airport on leaving...chao [... read more]tic with 6 Sunwing flights all scheduled to leave within a half hour on Monday...Wished we had gone in the morning by taxi and had lunch there....( instead of taking the hotel transfer) would have been so much more relaxing and really worth the $$

Wonderful Week!

This resort was all it could be! The 5 stars in all categories were well earned. I would like to single out 2 staff members for special compliments, if one can do that and not slight all the other wonderful people that work there. 1. Reneka- the maitre d' at Dolce Vita restaurant for her special ability to make customers feel important. 2. Samantha- the omelet chef for the unfailing bright smile and grace under pressure. If possible please pass my compliments on to the hotel management. I [... read more] wish I could be so complimentary to the check-in processing for our flight back to Canada. We stood in a snaking line for 2 and 1/2 hours to get checked in. 3 days later my knees are still aching; that's too hard on a 67 year old person. There was no obvious way to request assistance. As a suggestion, Sunwing reps could at least pass out water some place along the lineups. As a comment, Sunwing can only get away with treating "too nice" Canadians that way; American customers would be on the phone with their lawyers after about 20 minutes of that kind of treatment. In summary, I would like someday to return to Riu Reggae, but would not if I were not assured of better treatment from Sunwing at the airport. I would like to know that my criticism of the previous paragraph has been conveyed to Sunwing.

Rui Reggae

I felt that the resort was kept in immaculate condition. The staff was exemplary from the grounds keepers to the desk staff they were always smiling and asking about our experience. Most of our contact was with the dining room staff. By the way, the food was simply amazing - lots of choice and flavours. But, I would like to voice my concern regarding the requirement that the female servers have to were stockings! I cannot believe that anyone who has ever worn pantyhose/stockings in 30 degre [... read more]e weather would ever think that was a good idea?! Furthermore they cost a fortune and are totally unnecessary. It would be a big moral boost for your hard working female dining room staff to feel more comfortable in the heat.

Great Resort!

We spent one week at the RIU Reggae and hand a great time. It was only open for two months when we stayed.The food was awesome, the drinks were better than average and the staff were super helpful and friendly.

Great New Resort

Just want to start by saying this was a great hotel. The resort was brand new, the bars well stocked and the staff very professional. Check-in was very smooth and the staff very friendly when explaining the hotels facilities. We stayed in a ocean front room. Room was beautiful, bed very comfortable, bathroom large, balcony facing the ocean although the view was obscured by palm trees is was very relaxing being able to listen to the ocean. Food was also very good with lots of options. Breakfast was served at the outside dining area, lots of fresh choices along with an omelette station, eggs cooked your way station, it would have been hard to not find something you liked. Lunch the Jerk Chicken shack was a popular spot, along with the outside dining area. Dinner there were several choices, Italian, Asian, Steakhouse, Fine Dining and the regular dining room. We took advantage of the dining room great food and many choices, the Asian restaurant a favorite of mine along with the Italian restaurant. Nothing negative about the food or the service provided by the staff. Night time entertainment was very good with a variety of shows. Entertainment during the day was very well planned out and the entertainment staff were always full of energy, friendly and very easy to talk to.

Good value

This resort was 2 months new at the time of our stay. The grounds are well kept and it's just minutes from the airport which was a huge plus. The beach is a bit small but there was lots of beach chairs available by the pool and sea. One downfall was the absence of any shade on the beach. The food was good and the drinks were good. No room service which is too bad. There is 1 bar open 24 hours with some nacho snacks from 10pm-7am but we were never hungry and never partook in any of the late night [... read more] snacks. There is one rowdier pool and a quieter one. No hot tub. The spa was nice and decently priced. The gym looked small but didn't use it. The room numbers seem to be falling off but the room itself was clean and we enjoyed the large walkin shower. Bed a bit hard. We had a nice partial ocean view room. We spent time on our balcony and it was nice to hear the hotel reggae music or even the night entertainment. The bar tenders were slow at times and would not remember who was first to be served. The entertainment staff was awesome and the shows were decent. Didn't realize there were some shops within walking distance which would have been nice to explore. The locals will paddle their kayak right up to the swim area and try and sell you their hand made crafts or marijuana. Overall we had a great kid free time and we would go back to Jamaica in a heart beat. We might try negril next time for better beaches.

Super Clean Gorgeous Resort

The Resort was beautiful and clean.The staff was courteous, helpful and kind.The food was excellent, i enjoyed the selection and variation. The only thing i would have prefered was at the specialty restaurants a change some sort in the menu, i was vactioning there for 9 days and after the 6 day i had tried all the resaurants and was just a lil disappointed that there was no change to the menu. The food was delious though and I am excited to visit Jamaica again I had a great experience

Great time at a great hotel

Extremely pleasant and accommodating staff. The wait staff went above and beyond. Food was excellent and a great assortment for everyone. Jr Suite was perfect and worth the extra. Beach cleaned everyday. The entertainment staff made a point to speak to everyone. Didn't bug you if you just wanted to watch. Didn't have to wait long for a drink unless it was busy and then what do you expect. I would've like the pool a little deeper but it was still not a problem.

Great Resort!

The Riu Reggae is a relatively new resort in Montego Bay. The grounds are beautiful and nicely kept. The Staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. Our ocean view room was wonderful! The food was great in the buffet and all the four other restaurants. The beach was small but kept clean, and you could walk through to the beaches at the other Rius. All in all a great experience. Well done Riu Reggae!
