Well, I was happy to ask for an up-grade when we arrived and we got an ocean frontage, which was a saving grace. We slept with the waves and fresh air at night, it was beautiful. The up-grade was a little expensive, $240. CUC. Our housekeeper was really nice, and our room was cleaned usually by 10:00 a.m. every morning, with lovely sculptures with the towels on the bed and in the bathroom. This trip, we had no electricity from approx. 3:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. the following day with no hot water[... read more] or no water for two days, a little inconvenient but not the end of the world. The beach, was lovely as usual for Cuba. I did have an issue with the noise level, the music was so loud that it was difficult to get far enough down the beach to dull it, the pool area was worse. We were able to retreat to our comfortable room with the sounds of the ocean and a good book! The evening shows with the dancers were excellent. Not as relaxing as the last time we went to Cuba.

Excellent Cuba resort
Our family of four were very surprised at how clean, professional, and accommodating this resort was. We traveled with our 8 month old and 2.5 year old and had a blast. The pools are clean (and there are three!), the food is actually excellent (fresh fish and salads every day), and the staff are very kind and were so great with the kids. We actually loved the buffet (surprised because food at Cuban resorts has been horrible in the past, but not here), and the hotel is open and spacious. Rooms ar[... read more]e clean and modern.
The beach is okay. Lots of seaweed and it’s not very long or wide. We always got an umbrella but it’s very loud and packed. There is always a huge speaker blasting reggaeton all day and a Cuban staff member dancing. It’s fun but sometimes you do want some quiet and you can’t find that on this beach. The water is so incredible and the sand is white and you can walk out for a while with it being shallow so it’s really great for the kids. So, overall a clean and beautiful beach but also loud and packed and not a place to relax (and I go to the beach to relax!).
Recommendations for improvement: pool toys for the kids would be helpful (there are none). More importantly, easier access to clean water (you have to tip certain staff for extra bottles) would have been ideal. It’s not easy traveling with a baby let alone having a hard time getting bottled water or hot water for baby’s food. The staff constantly looked confused when we asked for hot water water from the bar even though we speak some Spanish and told them it’s for baby’s food. Getting more bottled water or treated water from the bar was also tough. The hotel room only gives one roll of toilet paper a day so if you use more you’re out of luck until the next day. That happened a few times to us. The washrooms on the resort also don’t have toilet paper so bring wipes with you.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to families. I’d even go back. It was a truly wonderful week and you have to understand Cuba to be able to accept the good and the bad. This resort is trying very hard to make its customers happy and it’s showing. We had a wonderful time.

Worst Resort I Ever Been To
I felt that the staff knew nothing and were very unhelpful. They were very rude and had attitude all the time. Anytime we asked for help or more information they didn't even know there stuff or own hotel. We asked how to get to another beach nearby and asked what time the bus returned and not even that they could tell us. We have been to cuba a few times and never had such poor service in our lives. Usually the people of cuba are very friendly and there are activities going on 24/7 everywhere ar[... read more]ound resort. ZUMBA Every hour, beach soccer, volleyball etc. There was NOTHING. The pool and beach water was freezing also. Pool is not heated. At the spa we asked about going there even if we had to pay just to have warmer water and jacuzzi and it was out of service. This was a girlfriend trip 4 of us just looking for good music, good people and at least some nightlife. I found the food always cold even from the hot tables. It never tastes fresh. There was 4 a la cart restaurants I could only try 2 because 2 were closed. Indian was the best food by far that I had there. The italian restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. Paying a deposit on towels I found unfair and people were always stealing towels. On the beach we were scammed 2 pecos per chair by a random person who turned out not to be working for the hotel. When I told the front desk they were shocked and said no we shouldnt be charged for chairs on our own resort beach but they did nothing about it. We had a reservation for international a la cart and when looking for it I asked the front desk where it was located and at that point they told us 'the restaurant is not open'. They didn't inform us ahead of time the restaurant was not open and the person who took the reservation down was unaware that that a la cart had been closed for weeks...the first day getting there the sheets were dirty in the bed and the telephone in room was not working. Last but not least this resort ran out of drinks. Classic drinks like pina coladas and mojitos. WHO RUNS OUT OF DRINKS? The resort had a disco but its 5 pecos to go and no one was there. This resort and area has no nightlife at all. Nothing to do. At 11 pm even the lobby bar is closed. The only bar that was open 24 hours was the snack bar which I must say is disgusting to sit at. Even the main buffet area is disgusting for a resort that is 2 years old it should be in better shape. The beach water was nothing special. Had seaweed. January weather is cold and windy, but that's not resorts fault. The only good thing I can say is that the shows they put on at night including the aqua show was amazing. Other then that I would give this resort a 0/5 stars because the customer service and lack of things to do was exteremly terrible. The food also was not vegetarian friendly. Nothing was labeled properly it was hard to tell if there was meat inside things or not. Lack of labels, lack of taste/flavour, lack of hot or even warm food. Things cooked on the spot were slightly better. Overall not good for vegetarians though. I must make a point here that hola sun representitive was the nicest person we met on the trip and she did tell us about the flamengo beach party which was good considering we had no other nightlife going on. This resort may be good for families and seniors but even then I think the price and service is not worth it. The resort is not 5 stars. Not even close. You can do much better spending money somewhere else. We travelled from Jan 11-18, 2020. Stick to veradero side if you want more young people and activities to do all day and night. Grand muthu is not for nightlife. Nor is cayo coco area.

This resort is just beautiful the rooms are modern and spotless.
We had fresh towels every day and our fridge was stocked every afternoon.
The pools are spectacular lots of chairs so no rushing early to save one.
We have been to cuba 7 times and this resort I would give 4.5
The food at buffet was great so many different varieties of food to pick from.
But the A la carts needs much improvement horrible food.
Management really needs to pay attention as food quality.
We give it 2

Very Nice resort
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this resort. It was my first time visiting and recommended. The people here are great! The smiles, hellos from anyone that was working, it didn't matter in what capacity. The rooms, grounds, were very good. One of my top picks for hotels in Cuba. The food... its fine. You won't starve by any stretch. Its just lacks variety and seasoning which we are used to. Drinks are plentiful. The beach is very nice. For our week it was unusually windy according to[... read more] staff there so alot of seaweed washed up. It was pushed to one side which left the beach clean and ready to be enjoyed!
Overall, we enjoyed the resort and would highly recommend and return too.

January vacation with children
We really enjoyed ourselves at this resort. This is our 8th time in Cuba. This resort is ranked 4* stars, and comparing to other 4* stars I think it meets that for Cuba, or exceeds it in some areas.
People are so helpful and probably the nicest so far in any resort, place is clean and run well. WE had a lot of wind since it is a winter there now, so big waves, but the beach is nice, and you can walk for miles. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We did not have any issues with water or supplies. [... read more]Food is OK for Cuban standards, there is always something you can find to eat that you like. We would go again to this resort considering the value, location, beach and people. Our children (10 and 15) had a great time too.
Overall, very good vacation, and positive experience with this resort.

Nice resort with poor service and food
The hotel and the pools with the beach are fantastic. The bars and bartenders are great but the food was very poor in diversity at the buffet, difficult to get your 3 meals à la carte as availability is limited and the service ( coffee, water, soft drinks...) was lacking.
We were there from January 3-10 and we had only 3 days of good weather. Not many activities or things to do in Cayo Coco.

A hit and miss
Bottom line: this could be a great resort, but too bad that the shortcuts the management takes and the fact that they tolerate bad service can ruin your vacation.
The good:
- excellent front desk support
- good and clean rooms.
- nice beach
- relatively good food (for Cuba)
- good service at the buffet and at some a la carte restaurants
- excellent bar service at the beach, Juan and Victor, always busy but always having a great attitude.
The indifferent:
- compact resort; everythin[... read more]g is close
- grounds ok for a relatively new resort
- buffet layout results in crowded food area
The bad:
- very rude bartenders in the evening shift at the lobby bar; they make so much tip that they no longer care about the service they are supposed to provide to you. For context, this was my 10th + time in Cuba, and this was the worst bar service I had (I do tip well for good services). The worst behaving bartender did not even bother to wear a name tag like any other employee, so complaints could not be specifically made. After complaining, we were wondering if our drinks were what they are supposed to be (a cappuccino coffee had 3 expressos purred in, as a pay back!).
- the lobby bar officially closes at 11pm; of course, that is when the bartenders have the willingness to stay that long; most of the time they close when they want, before 11, and the management is turning a closed eye
- the level of rudeness at the lobby bar was so high one evening that we complained to the customer service rep (their table is next to the lobby bar), only to see that the rep has no authority whatsoever; we escalated to the manager. He did his PR routine, like "he understands", "he is so sorry", etc. from 10.55 to 11:05 (I am a patient person), then I told him that everything is cool, just help us with that glass of wine we wanted at 10:50. The funny part was when he responded that he is sorry, but the bar closed at 11 and now is 11:05. He was not kidding... Too bad, that would have been a good joke. So I had to listen to his non-sense explanations for 5 more minutes.
- I know Cuba and the Cuban service, and when I am on vacation I am not looking at the empty half of the glass; rather, I want to relax and avoid negative energy. If something bothered me that bad that I need to mention to the customer service, that problem would be solved at other resorts. Not at GMG. After a couple of days I noticed that my fridge has not been replenished with the 2 beers we were supposed to have in the fridge for the 2 adults in the room. Not a big deal, but I mentioned it to the manager when he "apologized" for the bad lobby bar service, and to the customer service rep, with no success: there was no beer in my fridge for many days after. I saw resort employees enjoying some of those Bucanero cans between the buildings... good for them, but was that the beer I was supposed to have in the fridge?!
- Sea food restaurant: good food, but the deplorable service we got from the restaurant boss right from the beginning, made the entire evening a write-off.
- there is a parallel business everywhere there is shortage of something: the beach buffet/restaurant (not really on the beach or with view of the beach) serves pizza by the order; good luck waiting for it unless you paid someone at the restaurant to hold it for you ahead of time; you can imagine the frustration of folks seeing someone who just came in getting their pizza, when the other guys were there for more than an hour. Kids or teens alone were completely ignored for hours (our kids were there from 1pm, when it opened, and were served at 2:50 only after we complained for them) – well, we know that they tend to not tip...
- night shows are ok, but the performers waiting at the exit at the end of the shows asking for tips is something I saw for the first time; I guess there is a first for everything.
- after 11pm, there is nothing open other than the snack bar, which is nothing to write home about. No disco, no dancing place, no music in the background anywhere, not even a drink in the lobby while enjoying a chat with your friends. It feels like MGM is offering the minimum they can get by with, which is substandard for a 4+ or 5 star hotel they claim they are.
- you need to deposit 15 CUC per beach towel, which you get back when you return the towel at the end of your stay. You exchange your money (45 CAD for 30 CUC), but if you don't have time to spend the CUC at the end, you will get less than 40 CUC back at the airport exchange. Be aware, you are no longer allowed to cross the border control in Cuba with CUC, and at the airport you cannot buy anything with your CUC, so you need to exchange them at a loss. If I were to trust the management's desire for improvement at GM, I would suggest them to accept other currencies for towel deposits (give CAD, Euro etc for deposit, get them back at the end), but, based on what I have seen, I am afraid I am wasting my time...
The resort was very nice. The grounds were spacious, well laid out and well kept. The buildings were new, rooms fairly spacious and the balconies had poolside or ocean views. The pools and lounge chairs had great unobstructed views of the ocean. The hotel's beach was off to the right side of the property and extended for kilometers towards the other hotels.
The activities included: poolside games for kids & adults , tennis & basketball courts, sailing, windsurfing, and volley ball.
The dr[... read more]inks and service at the bars were great.
The food was buffet, snack bar or you could book full service at specialty restaurants. The selection was fresh; fruits, seafood and daily baked goods. The taste and preparation is what you would expect for Cuba.
This was a group company family vacation of 13 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 kids. We all had a great time at the hotel/ beach and on our two- 1 day excursions. We went on a jeep safari and sailing on a 40ft catamaran. We drove jeeps over the causeway to a farm for horseback riding, to a local farm and had lunch at a lakeside restaurant. The sailing including snorkeling, swimming at the offshore beach shoals, swimming and pictures with dolphins and lobster lunch. On other days some of us went / learned Scuba diving, kite sailing lessons, swimming a the pool and at the beach. We bought lots of rum, cigars, honey and the souvenirs were hand made leather and jewelry items.
We had a great time took lots of photos and would go back and recommend to friends.

Amazing stay!
This was my first time in Cuba and I absolutely loved it!
Everything about my trip was solely a positive experience: booking with tripcentral.ca was very easy and all the communications from them were timely and helpful, like our confirmations, tips for the trip and follow-ups. The flight was on time. The hotel transfer was very pleasant and fun.
The hotel is new and the rooms are big and stylish. The hotel territory is vast and has beautiful landscaping. The beach is amazing, very long.
Th[... read more]e staff is very friendly, they really do their best to make your stay comfortable and fun. There are 8 restaurants in total. We went to the Seafood restaurant, Indian and Italian and it was an incredibly positive experience. The food was great and served very fast.
In general, the food is good and there is a great variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The animation team (Hosee, Helena, Lukas) is amazing. I attended morning stretching, Zumba and game time. They are doing a great job entertaining 'lazy folks'. Do not hesitate to check out the activities offered by them. The kids club was great. Also kudos to the animation team. They are so great with kids and their activities are super.
could go on and on, but I just recommend to make this hotel your next vacation destination and you will be able to experience it yourself! Enjoy!
Thank you tripcentral.ca and Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo

Amazing resort and amazing beach!
The resort is beautiful and well maintained. The beach is gorgeous and has a lot of available shade to settle around. The ocean is nice and shallow for a while so one can always swim regardless of wind. Lots of kite boarders makes for beautiful scenery. Great people and just overall absolutely amazing time. Not one complaint! Even the food was very good!

Great resort, room for improvement
Pros:
Great resort, great playground area for kids, decent food selection, clean and modern rooms, good entertainment for adults and kids, layout of pools with beach background was very appealing
Cons:
Buffet chairs have cushions that stain easily and have big dirty spots on them (not appealing), beach is a bit of a walk off the resort (appears as though it's right behind the main pools but actually have to walk somewhere off to the side to get to beach), other resorts in cayo coco had larg[... read more]er food options, not all drinks on menu are available (asked for bloody Mary but don't have tomato juice available), hotel requires deposit for beach towels in pesos so you lose on exchange and then at the end of your stay you lose again when changing the deposit back to canadian money (deposit on towels is unnecessary and it shouldn't be a profitable function)

Amazing resort
No complains at all. Rooms clean and very good cleaned. Food very good with lot to choose. Swimming pools nice and clean.
service excellent.
no mosquitos at all.
We walked to Grand Muthu Imperial hotel (5 minutes walk) and were shocked how empty, quiet and very dark in the evening. We were lucky we stayed in Grand Muthu Cayo Guliermo.
Only what we missed is local village or town to walk around and see real life in Cuba.
