Wonderful Rainbow Holel

Originally we were booked to Imperial but got upgraded to the new section called Rainbow. This 5* hotel was incredible! The food, beaches, excellent service, amazing drinks and a great gym. For entertainment we went back to Imperial however the food there was not even comparable to Rainbow. I believe they have overbooked that section so they couldn’t serve as many people. A Gem in Cayo Coco Guillermo

I cant say enough about this resort. This has been my second time to this resort and it is absolutely beautiful. The staff are amazing and will do anything for you. They all have smiles on their faces and are ready to greet you will a hug. The rooms are always clean but there were some issues with getting clean towels in the rooms for showering. we did run into some issues with getting clean linen on our beds during the week Unfortunately my brother's room had towels that were dirty fr [... read more]om the previous people in the room. The other issue we did have is that our bar fridge was only stocked maybe twice in the week and they are no longer stocking the fridges with pop (cola). the grounds, pools, lobby are always cleaned and there was always someone cleaning up. The sports bar is far the best place to be each night. after supper we would stroll by and have a few drinks before retiring for the night. The beach is still a work in progress. I took a walk on the beach and there is still alot of shells and can be very hard to walk on. We plan on returning to this resort again next year because we have made so many friends with the staff and they feel like family to us.

Great resort!

This was our first time to Cuba and we will definitely be back! And the resort was amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and entertainment were superb. This was our honeymoon trip and they gave us a lot of extras. We were sad to leave. Also, our travel agent Dianne Abrey was great and handled everything wonderfully. We will be booking our next trip with her.

Beautiful and Calm

This was our first time to Cuba, so other than other reviews or personal accounts from friends we did not know what to expect. This resort is about an hour from the Cayo Coco airport and it's a nature area so there is no urban life to speak of. You can see flamingos surrounding the roads in the low marshes that are everywhere. The resort itself is new, clean and small enough that you don't need to worry about the walks - although there are hills so some folks with mobility issues looked most c [... read more]omfortable getting a lift. We didn't specify any room requirements and we received a room with two double beds, so we just pushed them together! The mini fridge wasn't stocked consistently, and towel changes were hit and miss, but again this didn't bother us. The staff were lovely! The front desk was professional and polite, but any issues like pillows or electric problems should be taken to the customer service representative instead of the front desk. The garden staff did a good job of cleaning up every morning and offering guests coconuts to drink from. The food exceeded our expectations at the buffet, but we learned quickly that the snack bar isn't well staffed at night and you run the risk of getting stale fries. We did find that certain staff offered better service and opted to sit in their sections! The bar tenders were wonderful to us, regardless of how we tipped. They did run out of some things randomly like tonic water and the power would go out some days but everyone handled it so well. The beach at the resort is great! It's wavy so you can't see the coral, but on the calm days we didn't need water shoes. Playa Pilar is spectacular and world class! I loved our adventure into Moran and we made some new friends (Randy and Thalía) and we will surely be back again! To all the complaining Canadians at this resort - you were the worst part of my vacation and your entitled behaviour needs to be checked!

Incredible!

I read a lot of reviews complaining about the food here.... but honestly it was some of the best food, it’s almost all freshly made in front of you! Our room was nice, nothing special. Beach was incredible.

Third time

The was at full capacity for the first time the staff is doing great the. The main buffet is busy but have patience we were on holidays. The towels were not changed enough but it’s not the resorts fault it the Cuban system. Met a lot of great friends ( workers ) will return

Great resort

Pros-Beautiful hotel! Great staff! Amazing food! Best hotel in Cuba (love Cuba!) Cons- shortage of towel! Only able to exchange my towel once in a week(tried everyday!) the buffet has a bad layout-lines block buffet food.

Our 5 days package

We purchased 5 days package stay in Grand Mathu Imperial: from Feb 8 to Feb 13. We came to hotel 10 pm Feb 8th and checked out 7 am Feb 13th. 5 nights and 4 days. Probably that's what it mean to purchase 5 days package... The hotel was 1 year old and everything was brand new and clean. We liked a room we stayed (only water didn't go out of shower cabin and was running out to floor and after our complain - nobody was sent to fix it). And also in the morning of our leave we couldn't open the saf [... read more]e where we left our documents. We were scared to be late for bus but repair guy came fast - appreciate it. Entertainment was good and we liked food. So we give 5 with minus stars.

Great value all inclusive

Comfortable rooms with simple but tasteful decor. The restaurant food is better than average for Cuba. Pool was clean and very well maintained. The vegetation at the grounds are young but well maintained. The beach was nice but some corral rocks in some sections of the water may require water shoes.

Very pretty and well furnished Resort

This resort is the whole package, a great beach, fantastic food, the entire resort looks amazing (well deserved of the five star title), fun and entertaining shows nightly, great pools and a great choice of excursions. I recommend going on their excursion to Playa Pilar, in my opinion the BEST beach i've ever been to in my entire life, it is nothing short of beautiful and the snorkeling there is amazing. They took us about 10-15 minutes off shore to snorkel near some ship wreckage that was full  [... read more]of aquatic life. Some minor nitpicks about the hotel we stayed at: The magnetic cards were constantly de-magnetizing by themselves, despite being nowhere near objects that would do so. Over the course of our 7 day stay we had to remagnetize the cards three times. Secondly, the shower stall (while it feels amazing to use) has a gap between the floor and the door which will flood the bathroom and the room if you do not plug the gap with the end of a towel. This does not change even if you shower with low flow versus high. All in all, I would recommend this hotel but I would like to try a hotel at Playa Pilar the next time, as Gran Muthu Imperial's beach, while beautiful as well, falls short in comparison to Pilar's.

Amazing resort

Excellent services, food and staff people. I did envoy everyday. The weather was fantastic. I would recommend this resort to my family and friends. Beaches and facilities are kept clean. More than anything else, Cubain taxi cars are fantastic. I will return in a short future with my family.

Good comfortable Resort

This was a decent, comfortable hotel in a beautiful location. Check-in went incredibly smoothly, and the front desk staff were helpful throughout the week whether for changing money, ordering taxis, or buying wifi. The room was reasonably appointed. Bed was clean and comfy. Towels weren't replaced unless we asked (better luck than we had with beach towels which we were only able to swap once). And twice we had to ask for water bottles to be replaced, which were promptly delivered.  [... read more] Food was pretty good for Cuba. Especially if you stuck with Cuban style dishes (rice, chicken, pork, fish, etc.) A la carte's were decent - the "international" one was our favourite. The beach was excellent - and the servers down there were great at getting everyone taken care of. We didn't spend much time by the pool. The most annoying thing was the "saving" of chairs by other guests, which was extremely frustrating, especially when sometimes it appeared that the guests didn't even bother to use their reserved chairs until late in the day. This is more of a problem with the guests then the staff. If you want shade, make sure to get up early. Pilar beach is worth the bus trip. Amazing beach to spend a day at. We were there during the power outage, and having spent a lot of time in Cuba, I can say it was dealt with by the resort as well as can be expected. They kept everyone fed and watered, which is the most that can be asked. I think that people who are overly critical of the resort for the preparation for things like island wide power outages just don't know what the reality of Cuba is. I would return.

The Gran Muthu Imperial is really a 2 star resort (( honest review))

we arrived on 01/11/20 checked in dropped the bags in our ocean view room second floor and went to the beach wait there isn't one on the property its down coast 5 minutes via golf carts on site its a rock beach into the water we then checked out the buffet wow the food was awful I could not tell what kind of meat they were serving to be totally honest I would not feed this to my dogs ( animal cruelty) yes it was that bad Next we went to check out their new wine bar we saw advertised on th [... read more]e resorts website, we could not find it when we inquired about the location the staff told us that it was not open yet ( or built ) it is now taken down from the website we went back to our room and we had left our bags on the dresser and bed the bugs crawling all over our luggage was disgusting, I moved the beds and there were bugs on the wall behind the mattress we grabbed our luggage and went to the front desk and told them what was in our room and were told sorry we have no more rooms today we talked to our travel rep and said we are not staying here,,,, we were not refunded any money we were on the premises 2 hours we went to another adults only resort and had a good time this resort is said to be new but it is infested with bugs, food is terrible, no beach, I would not recommend anyone going to this resort as you will be disappointed DO NOT STAY HERE ! ! We are done with Cuba we will not go back This is how the star rating works in Cuba does the resort have a pool- 1 star does the resort have a beach- 1 star does the resort serve food - 1 star does the resort have a roof over the rooms - 1 star you get the idea its really a joke

You get what you pay for

This was our first time in Cuba. Of all the resorts we have been to, this one dropped the ball a bit. Beautiful rooms, wonderful staff, gorgeous beach, and pools. The food however, was disappointing. It would help greatly if the food in the buffets were labeled. Only a few were. We could hardly stick our fingers into all the sauces etc, to figure out what they were, when it’s a buffet. We had the same beach towel for the entire week because they ran out....not nice for pools covered in sand. We also had the same in room towels for 6 days, not a huge issue, but a second set would have been nice. And never a facecloth. It was fantastic weather though, and we enjoyed ourselves greatly.

Good value for the money

I brought my Mom with me to this resort Feb 3-10th, and stayed at Gran Muthu Imperial. The check in was quick and we were lucky that we were given our room keys right away. We arrived at 10:30 am so there was no sitting around all day waiting to get in our room. The room itself was nice, spacious, and clean. We stayed in the Bldg 6 and had an Oceanview room. The downfalls were that the shower leaked so every time you had a shower, you also had a flood to clean up. We were told later that A [... read more]LL the rooms had that same issue. We were able to deal with it fine by putting towels around the bottom of the shower door, but unfortunately, they only gave you one clean towel per day. I really didn't want to use the same towel I used to wipe the floor, to also dry myself with. It wasn't the end of the world as we used our beach towels as our bath towels, but still a bit of an inconvenience. The grounds themselves were nice. Everything was pretty easy to navigate and well laid out. There are 3 pools and one with a swim up bar. The pools were quite cold, but refreshing. They had activities during the daytime at the middle pool. There were not enough pool chairs for the amount of people and if you weren't up at the crack of dawn, you weren't getting a place to sit unfortunately. There is a rule about saving the chairs, but it is not enforced. If you are lucky enough to get a chair, don't be afraid to ask one of the staff to get you an umbrella. They do have them, but you must ask! The food was typical for a Cuban resort. Nothing to write home about, but we never went hungry. Tuesday they had a Cuban night which featured an outdoor BBQ. It was quite good and the entertainment was really nice. We only did one A La Carte which was the seafood restaurant and I highly recommend the salmon! It was delicious! The beach out front of the resort is rocky with dead coral but very natural and was fun to find all kinds of cool little creatures there. On the left side of the resort is the sandy beach. it was nice with plenty of lounge chairs, a beach bar, and a place to get snorkelling equipment and other aquatic activities. Overall, it was a nice resort, but I don't know if I would go back to this one. I would probably stay at the Rainbow next door for a little extra money.

Nice resort about 45 minute drive from the airport....... after sitting on the bus for 45 minutes at the airport !!! The staff at reception are neither friendly or helpful. We had a beautiful room overlooking both the pool and the ocean.Very clean, and everything worked !!! Room # 9005 The 3 a la carte restaurants are good, but not great. The Main Buffet was good, but bad planning makes it difficult to access the food stations when the restaurant is busy. The Beach Restaurant is great for lu [... read more]nch. The Snack Bar is okay for a snack or a late night drink. The Lobby Bar has good coffee, and most evenings, entertainment. The 3 pools are great, but you have to do the early morning towel thing. The Imperial doesn't have the usual beach access,..... but just a few minutes walk away there is a lovely beach, with crystal clear water. The property is fairly new, well kept and very clean. Had a bit of a problem with bugs, so bring spray etc. Great value.

Great Resort!

As a first time visitor to Cuba I think this was a great hotel. The room had a working air conditioner and fan, a beautiful clean space with a giant bed and the sofa turned into a smaller bed (my friend said this was a little hard). The shower had a waterfall option or a wand option and though our waterfall needed a clean for water flow the wand was good. The water pressure was nice and the temperature was very warm to hot. The mini bar was stocked daily with two sodas, two beers and a bottle of [... read more] water (large) free of charge. The atmosphere of the hotel was calm and relaxing in the daytime with a mix of fun zumba, waterfit or games and fun partying in the night with shows and music all around. The staff were always kind and friendly to us during our stay. Nearby to the hotel (a two minute walk past the security booth) there is a spa, restaurant, souvenir shops, disco and bowling. The food was delicious and there was good variety to choose from daily. The food was fresh and well prepared and nothing caused any illness to any of us. There were some congestive lines for things like personalized omelettes, pancakes or cooked chicken or fish. The ice cream was the best and there were delicious cakes daily. Here was always a mix of fresh local fruit and canned fruit available at all meals and the bread was very popular for its sweet taste. Sometimes as well there were churros or coconuts available around populated areas. The final option was the 24/hrs snack bar perfect for late night fries (etc) or drinks. At lunch time there was a mini buffet available for those not wanting to change to go to the larger buffet. The water too was of good quality drinking or handwashing. I only drink a little so I didn't partake in the bar as much, but all bar staff were friendly and attentive when I did. If you like strong drinks you'll be fine. If not practice asking for "poquito alcohol por favor" as I did. If you order an americano coffee they give a stick of sugar cane to chew which was awesome. Check in and out were simple and they provide a map to get to and from the room and the bellhops drove us and brought our bags within minutes. The excursions available were applicable to most hotels it seems.

Beautiful resort

Hotel was very nice, staff was friendly the pools where nice and refreshing, food was good, the was entertainment every night which was fun. The only complaints I have was pool towels where never available for exchange for a new one and water bottle in room was never replaced when finished other then that everything was great

A resort worth going back to

This new resort is beautiful. Rooms are very clean and staff are very friendly. The pools are beautiful, although the water was a bit on the cold side. The grounds are well maintained. Although the food was repititious, there is always something to eat. Their bread was to die for but the coffee was horrible at the buffet. Over all, I would definitely go back to this hotel and would recommend it to friends and family who are looking for a well priced and relaxing vacation.

Beautiful Resort

We booked an ocean view room which we had to wait till our second night to get but it was worth the wait because it had a beautiful view. Food was good, I especially like the outdoor bbqs. Everyone was very friendly. Beach is beautiful, a bit rocky in the beginning but less rocky further down the beach. Resort did lose power on our first day, so we had no running water and the toilets wouldn't flush but they still provided some food but I don't know how sanitary it was? We weren't happy that the [... read more]y "ran" out of oceanview rooms so we spent our first day in a junior suite and had to switch rooms the next night. Our shower wouldn't drain that well and would flood so we had to turn the water low. Considering the price I would go back!
