We booked the Imperial Club package with Club Mobay provided by Transat.
When we arrived to club Mobay at the airport – we were told to help ourselves to food in the glass case and drinks. The food case was completely empty – not a SINGLE thing for us to eat[... read more] while we waited for transportation to the hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, there was no separate check in desk as it was supposed to be a part of the package we booked. This was not too bad as there were not a lot of people checking in at the time we arrived at night.
Once we got to our room, there was no welcome gift as we were told was supposed to be there as part of the imperial club package we paid for. Just a letter welcoming us to the resort.
The food was horrible at the resort – regardless if we tried the restaurants or the buffet. There are no other words I have for it. Simply horrible.
On Tuesday, we paid the hotel for an extra guest to stay with us in our room. They did not provide us with any other bedding for our guest. There were extra pillows on the shelf in the closet but we had to pull the blanket off our own bed for him to sleep on the sofa.
Let’s fast forward to Wednesday September 4th 2019 when the real troubles began.
We had the “Do no disturb†sign placed on our door, as we always do when we are in our room. Our friend was asleep in the living room area. I was getting dressed and my partner was in the bathroom about to get into the shower.
There was a knock on the door, which we ignored, since we had the do not disturb on the door. The person knocked again, then again a third time. I assumed there must have been some emergency for him to keep knocking so I grabbed a towel to wrap around my upper body to go see what the issue was.
I didn’t even make it to the door when it was just opened. Once he opened the door, the do not disturb sign fell on the floor and he stood there staring at me with a very shocked look on his face. I picked up the sign and asked him “what are you doing, is there something I can help you with?â€
He then stuttered out “umm, do you need your fridge stocked?†I just looked at him in total disbelief, as we both knew he was NOT supposed to be entering my room with the do not disturb on the door and said to him, “well I guess since you are already in hereâ€.
He looked like a deer caught in headlights. He came in as my friend sat on the couch, and restocked the fridge and left.
I was very disturbed by this for a number of reasons, so I made my way to the lobby with my partner and my friend to speak to a manager about what happened.
When I got to the front desk, I immediately asked for a manager and the girl asked me what for. I told her what happened and she asked us to have a seat while she got someone.
After waiting almost 20 mins, a guy came over and introduced himself as the bar supervisor (keep in mind, I asked for a manager).
I then explained everything again for the second time and he told me he needed to locate a manager (like I originally asked for).
After waiting more then 30 mins again, (he was not able to locate a manager), a woman came and I explained the entire situation for a third time.
She proceeded to tell me that they do not take these things lightly and it would be handled and another manager would be speaking with me about what happened (I assume she was referring to the guest relations manager). She asked me if anything was taken from my room. I advised her that he would not have had the chance to as we were all in the room when he entered. She stated that anytime someone enters our room, it is logged in their system when they swipe their card to enter. So if anything was taken, they would know who was in the room.
I proceeded to advise her that I do not take inventory of my items on a daily basis to immediately know when/if something was to go missing. I have a small gopro camera that I wouldn’t even take out until the day I was going on an excursion. So if someone entered my room on Monday and took it, but I didn’t need to use it until Thursday, how am I to know when exactly it went missing?
She stated that she understands and that a report would be filed with their security office and someone would contact me about the matter. I advised her that I no longer felt safe on their property and would be renting a space elsewhere for the remainder of my time there and would return when it was time to leave. I asked that whomever was supposed to be contacting me to reach me on my cell phone and we left. This all happened on Wednesday Sept 4th (on my partners birthday which was the whole purpose of the trip, now ruined by this nonsense).
We left the resort, spending a lot more money now having to book elsewhere to stay.
Of course, we did not receive any phone call by the time we returned to the hotel late Friday night (we were leaving to head back to Toronto Saturday evening).
To add – I was told that I would be able to get a late check out for Saturday as the airport transfer was not picking us up until 5:10pm (part of imperial club). When I asked the front desk for the later check out – she advised me that it would be a charge of an additional $20 USD per hour. I advised her that the Imperial Club was supposed to be no additional charge. She then told me to wait a few minutes and then came back and told me that the late check out was not available.
After everything that had already transpired, I was not having this so I asked to speak with a manager again. After having to wait another 30-35 minutes for a manager, the guy comes to me and says that it is not available. I begin to explain to him my frustration with all that had happened and he cut me off and said he was aware there were issues the days before, but he was not there to discuss that, he was there to discuss the late check out. He then said the latest he could give me was 2pm. At this point, I was totally flabbergasted at his response and said fine as I simply had no more fight left in me.
When we finally got back to our room (this is now later Friday night after being gone since Wednesday morning), we get in to find our room was cleaned (as expected) but our fridge was never restocked. Not even a single bottle of water to drink.
There was a letter left on our bed stating that someone from guest relations was trying to reach us and that we could call 1 of the 3 extension numbers on the letter or go to the guest relations desk in the lobby. I called down to advise that we had no water or anything in the fridge, they said they would send someone up to fill it. It took almost an hour for someone to finally come.
The next morning, I went straight to the guest relations desk and the lady stated that there was no report logged in their system about the incident that took place and had to make several phone calls to find out what was going on. It turns out that no one actually logged the incident. I then had to wait for their guest relations manager as well as hotel security to come to meet me to take the report (which was supposed to have been done since WEDNESDAY when I originally reported the issue.)
They had me sit down and write out what happened, then the guest relations manager advised me that they reviewed the camera footage and that I did NOT have the do not disturb sign on my door that they could see and that the guy never entered my room.
I was livid. First off, you have 3 people who were in the room and advised this is what happened. Secondly, how exactly did my fridge restock itself on Wednesday in the middle of the day? I asked her if she was calling us liars at this point. I told her that I was not seeking financial gain, I did not say anything was stolen, I did not say anyone assaulted me. I was making them aware of what took place. She then asked me what time the airport transfer was coming to pick us up so that I could come back to meet her in the lobby to view their security footage. I advised her that I was no longer going to waste another second of my trip on this nonsense with them and that I do not trust them at this point or their “security camera†footage as I work in Computer software and I am well aware of what can be done with that footage (especially after almost 3 days have gone by). Unless this was being reviewed by an expert to know that it was not tampered with (since we CLEARLY HAD THREE PEOPLE IN THE ROOM WHEN THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE), I had nothing else to say to her at this point.
She looked at me and said that was up to me then as she also had nothing else to offer. At this point I asked her to photo copy the report that I had just written that they signed as I do not believe they intended to do anything about it.
The person who was working at the guest relations desk was the ONLY person who took the time to understand what took place and without me having to ask, adjusted my check out time to 5pm so that I didn’t have to be sitting idle while we waited to leave for the airport. Not to mention, she told us that this whole incident report that I was only NOW being asked to fill out with the manager and security was supposed to have been done on WEDNESDAY when the issue took place. NOT days after the fact.
When we were on out way back to the room, there were some hotel staff that were by our villa who overheard us talking and asked me if the guy looked like “this†(they described someone) as they were aware of a fellow who had these incidents reported on him before. I told them no, this guy had braids, and they said they were not sure who that was. This CLEARLY indicates that this has happened several times before, and by their statement, usually by a certain individual who still works there. This entire ordeal seems nothing short of a cover up on their end since no procedures were followed as it should have been AND the fact that other hotel staff said this is a regular occurrence.
As a female – if I had been alone in my room (please keep in mind that I was in the middle of getting dressed) and this took place, what could have happened? It is not unheard of with females reporting assaults taking place on resort grounds or in their rooms. The way this whole thing was handled from beginning to end has completely ruined our trip. I would NEVER book at the GRAND PALLADIUM LADY HAMILTON again.
I have never gone on vacation and LOST weight before. If I could give this place a negative star, I would.

Riu Montego Bay: Great Family Vacation
We went to this resort as a party of 12 for a vow renewal.
We were upgraded to a suite because of our renewal and our room was beautiful. 2 of the rooms in our group had a musty smell (building #1). Our group didn't complain though as they were not in the room a lot of the time.
Food was amazing in all of the restaurants, our favorite was the Italian.
Entertainment staff were great at getting people involved as well as coming by each morning and saying "good morning" to everyone. I was amazed[... read more] that they could remember everyones name since they must meet a lot of people all the time.
Shout out to Chocolate, Abigail, and Purple from the entertainment staff and a very special thank you to Darrin in the buffet for breakfast and Shakira in the Italian restaurant. (She amazinginly remembered all 12 peoples orders - drinks included - from our meal 3 nights before) absolutely blew us away
My only complaint was that they need more washrooms. There are only 2. One at the lunch buffet, and one in the lobby. Makes for either wet bathing suits tracking up to the lobby during the day or (I'm sure) people just going in the pool.
Perhaps when they renovate they can add a washroom by the pool and one on the beach??

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Great Resort
For the most part, I was extremely pleased with this resort. I will try to cover as many points that would cross a potential guests mind.
*WEATHER*
The first thing I will touch up on was our first major concern which was WEATHER. Because of the time we booked our trip, we were extremely concerned with what to expect. (We googled how their seasons work after booking LOL) We were there for the very end of August until the very beginning of September; This time is known as their stormy weather [... read more]/ hurricane season. Before leaving we were monitoring the Montego Weather and it was predicted to rain and thunder 5/5 days. For the 5 days we were there it rained TWICE and ONLY during the evenings. The afternoons were never disturbed by rain or clouds.
*STAFF *
The staff were extremely warm and welcoming. The check in/check out process was quick and easy. We deactivated our hotel cards twice and, on both occasions, they were fast and happy to respond. (The cards are magnetic so they can't be close to phones)
*FOOD*
The and the food was delicious! As a Vegan, I was beyond pleased with the variety of options available at the buffets. There were new themes and options every day! The staff working at the buffet were knowledgeable and helpful with addressing my concerns.
The French restaurant was my favourite option out of the two restaurants we were able to reserve. We threw the Chef a curveball with my “egg, dairy and all meats allergies†but boy did he delivered! He even came out to serve and explain the dish.
So, whether you have dietary restrictions or not, you will be pleased with the food!
*BEACH*
There wasn't a HUGE stretch of shore/beach area but still a good enough! There were ropes dividing the areas you are not permitted to swim in. They do enforce these rules and you will be called out and warned if you pass over (even at your own risk)
Do expect to have locals CONSTANTLY trying to sell you "Ganja" , fresh fruit and etc. It wasn't necessarily a bother to us as we weren't hesitant to say "No thank you" each time. They are not allowed to past a certain point at shore so you can always route yourself accordingly if you wish to avoid the conversation. I will advise you that the prices they ask for are ridiculous! We were charged 25 USD for a coconut and a mango.
The photos online do not do the Montego Bay water justice. It's colors and clearness were not captured in most images/videos we viewed prior to booking.
*RESORT*
The resort itself was quite large so you're forced to get a healthy amount of steps in per day. The pool areas were massive and maintained.
We were lucky to have a beach view from our balcony without paying any additional fees. Our room was quite nice with access to AC controls. I saw countless complaints regarding the AC and water not functioning as desired, but we had no issues with this whatsoever. In fact, we had to have our AC off during the night!
They drive around spraying the resort with some sort of smoke to keep away bugs. For the first time, we came back with ZERO bug bites so it actually works!
*FAMILY/ KID FRIENDLY*
This resort seemed VERY kid friendly. There were tons of kid activities happening during the afternoon. There’s a cute waterpark just be the beach with tons of water slides and what not for children.
The pools are shallow throughout. I believe its 4ft across as well as a small pool attached for toddlers. Although the pools had two pool bars, the environments remained PG and kid friendly from what we observed.
The buffet seemed to have great options for kids as well.
*CONS*
One of the few “dislikes†which is barely worth mentioning would be the carpet in the hotel hallways. Its outdated and stained. The other point that would be the major con would be the currency exchange. We converted out CAD to Jamaican money prior to arriving but ended up being forced into USD currency anyway. Our agent recommended we take a taxi from our resort to the airport because of how early the shuttle would be picking us up at. She assured us a taxi ride from our resort to the airport would be “10 bucks†at most. The Cheapest quote we received for a cab was $100 USD and that was through a local inquiry! The resort was quite a little way from the resort (about 1 hour 15 mins) so perhaps its not as outrageous as it sounds. We were just a little disappointed with the misinformation.
Overall, other than these minor insignificant “consâ€, it was a great resort and memorable experience.

Royalton Hideaway Negril: Fantastic Resort
The resort is just beautiful from the landscape to the sea and rooms. The food is very good but they can offer more seafood like shrimp whole fish and lobster, we had lobster in one of the restaurants and they were the size of large shrimp. The beach on the The Hideaway was very small weedy and rocky but the beach on the Royalton side was just beautiful .The diamond section on the Hideaway is not worth the extra money.
Just returned after a week at Luxury Bahia. I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews online. But this resort was nothing like I had read. The room was spacious, clean, a beautiful view. The butler service was an unexpected perk, room service was quick and public relations was always quick to respond. The food was amazing always fresh and plentiful. The grounds are well kept the ground keepers are always attending. The whole staff (entertainment, bartenders, housekeeping, restaura[... read more]nt service) were always attentive they make this place welcoming. The only disappointment was the beach area it was small and felt very cramped with the loungers too close together. The evening shows were just ok there were a few that we just walked away. I would return to Luxury Bahia Principe.

Riu Montego Bay: Fantastic time
Love love love the RIU resorts. The RIU Montego Bay is an older resort but apart from the rooms, you wouldn’t really know. The furniture is the give a way as it’s old style but the rooms are Kept very clean. Bathtubs are dangerous with no rubber mats, especially for seniors. Walk in showers hopefully will be in all rooms when this resort is renovated next year. Only one elevator worked in our building and that was questionable as to how long LOL it creaked, groaned and thumped each time. Th[... read more]e grounds are lovely, smaller resort so not a whole lot of walking. Beach is lovely, however it is not a long one to walk. All staff are very friendly and eager to please. Especially in the restaurants and bars. Entertainment crew are fantastic. We had so much fun. As repeat guests at other locations we always got a bottle of nice wine or champagne, fruit plate sent to our room, this location did not acknowledge this. Was surprised that you couldn’t get mimosas at breakfast, infact the only time we saw champagne was at our daughters vow renewal celebration. Out of the three “a la carte†restaurants there was only one that was, and at that it was only the main meal that was served to you. All in all really had a great time, we travelled the week of August 25-September 1,2019. Family of 12.

Royalton Negril Resort And Spa: Amazing resort!
The Royalton Negril is a wonderful resort. My mom and I went there for a week to relax. The service was great, and so was the food!
We stayed in Block 6 room 6018, and it smelt a bit musty in the room, but that's to be expected due to the humidity. It was also to the side of the mainstage, so you could hear the performances that start at 9pm every night, so be aware of this if you book in this Block. The room was clean, and so were the grounds.
The beach was great too. They do rope off the[... read more] area you can swim, and I wish it went out a bit further, but nothing to do about that.
The only thing I could say is that they didn't seem to have a lot of snorkel gear on hand, as it is free for everyone to use, but once it's loaned out, there's no guarantee of when it will be returned so, it would be better to have more on-hand.
Overall, it was a great place to stay and I recommend it!

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Great Vacation!!
This was our second time staying at the Grand Bahia. Loved is once again! Food is great, variety to choose from, something for everyone. The nicer part of the beach is a little farther, but with all the food and drink it's a nice walk and the exercise is welcomed! The resorts needs a few upgrades, but they are working on this slowly. The grounds are well maintained and resort is very clean. The staff in all areas were awesome, very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Riu Reggae: Fun resort!
Spent 7 days at the Riu Reggae Montego Bay resort. Upon arrival we were greeted with mimosas and quickly checked in. The resort is very nice and modern, spacious while not being too big and has a lot of amenities. We also had access to the amenities at the Riu Montego Bay resort, which was about a 5 minute walk away.
The food was great and they had lots of vegan options. One complaint though is I wish they'd have had more late night vegan options other than fruits and dry nacho chips. Maybe the[... read more]y could've offered salsa and guac instead of just nacho cheese sauce.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Renewal of Vows
Grounds beautiful - entertainment great - food a bit above average. Not enough A La Carte restaurants to accommodate amount of people. We were part of the Royal group but could only get one a la carte. Beach is man made and sand needs to be topped up - this was very evident when we experienced heavy rainfalls. Staff very accommodating except for the front desk. Rooms are clean but tired looking. Maid service awesome. Let me go back to the front desk. We had an issue with guests arriving [... read more]from Kingston for our ceremony. My husband negotiated a price for the room, offered to put down a holding fee, because he wanted to confirm with me that we were in agreement. He went back 15 minutes later and they had sold the room. We were so upset, our guests had to go back to Kingston, which meant that they had to leave early and missed the rest of our celebration - no one cared or seemed to be accountable. Wedding co-ordinator - outstanding
The rooms are lovely but some of the lady staff have adittude waiters not attentive to offer water, food is great at the buffet, beach alot or rocks, poolside room that I was upgraded to was full of mosiqutos so had to go back to a room facing the unrenovated parking lot. This resort is not 5 star at all.

Sandals South Coast: Got sick 2nd day!
My husband and I were incredibly excited in advance of this trip, and decided to splurge a bit to opt for the luxury of this Sandals resort that we had heard so much about.
Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy it at all. On our 2nd day at the resort, we both got very sick and spent the majority of our time in bed and in the nurses office. We believe it might have been our lunch that wracked havoc on our digestive systems. The manager Kimberley did bring us dry crackers and approved one e[... read more]vening of room service for us, which we greatly appreciated as we were unable to get out of bed, and the medical staff were so amazing in checking in on us and making sure we were staying up on our meds and fluids.
There was also one thing that I did not appreciate on the day we arrived. As part of the check in process, they put a hold on your credit card of anywhere from $300-400 USD for “other expenses.†It is not mandatory, however the front desk staff do make it seem so, which did not sit well with me at all once I was informed of the optional nature of this hold. Unused funds are supposed to be refunded within 10-15 business days, however I do believe that I will lose money with the currency exchange. I can submit an update once I receive my refund.
Aside from the sickness, the pros if the resort were:
-lovely and pleasant staff
-clean rooms
-lots of dining options
-clean beach
-lots of beach chairs and no need to rush to save them
-excellent medical staff! Special mention to Nurse Tisha, Nurse Brown, and Dr. Lawrence
Cons:
-the food options are not great for vegetarians at all
Sickness withstanding, I am not sure that I would go back to this Sandals South Coast as I did not feel like it lived up to the luxury and romance that they sell in their marketing campaigns. Considering the premium paid for the Sandals experience, I personally did not feel that I received my money’s worth. The basics of a clean room and clean beach are things that I can get at other adults-only resorts. The main buffet was nothing exceptional, and the food options were very limited for vegetarians (although the chefs did try their best). My husband and I were very excited to go to the “authentic†Caribbean restaurant as after being sick for days, we were craving familiar food (our background is also Caribbean) and we were told that Elinor’s is the place to go however they served a bland, watered-down version of Caribbean food that left us very unsatisfied. Jasmine’s was the only restaurant that we enjoyed for their take on Asian food. Giuseppe’s was the Italian restaurant and there were a few more that we did not go to because of the lack of veg options and also because we ran out of time to try them all.
In short, I did not see what set Sandals apart from their adults-only resorts, however I would be open to giving them another shot but maybe on a different island.

Jewel Runaway Bay Resort: Good resort for kids
This was our second time visiting this resort and we loved it! The hotels are close to the beach, pool and water park. The kids really enjoyed the water park and it helped to break up the day. The only downside is that there are not enough tubes for the lazy river so you have to get there early. Other than that it’s really good. Sandals Ochi Beach Resort: Not as advertised
Sandal's perfected the advertising and deceiving industry. They sell their resort as the most luxurious vacation that one will ever have. In all honesty that could be not more farther from the truth!! The resort is very outdated thou in my rating I didn't considered it. That didn't bothered me nor the very fact that climbing in the bed requires some acrobatic skills! I am 5.5" tall and getting in the bed was challenging every single time.
My rating of 2 stars is given because of the way this [... read more]resort operates. I've booked a room with a balcony. Guess what my room had no balcony. It took about an hour to get the room that was paid for. I've always wanted to try Sandal's and at our 30th anniversary we decided to book it. We wanted a vacation to remember. Well it happen but for all the wrong reasons. I have had the opportunity to visit different islands in the Caribbean and I can testify that any other resorts you can get luxury for much less money than here.
Here they use the cheapest raw materials that can be purchased on the market and they serve it in very small portions. If you ask for chicken your portion is 2 drumsticks of the size of chicken wings and be happy. If you try to get more that always ends in an argument because there no way that they will honour your request! All the orders are mostly hit and miss.
The resort has no mineral water, nor a canned club soda! The alcoholic beverages are questionable. I never saw anybody open a seal on a bottle (except on sparkling wine). When you go to eat you have to give your room number. I found this to be a try to intimidate you so one would not complain. If that doesn't work they send in the managers who try to smooth things over. I found this to be degrading because my intelligence was insulted. They are smiling as long as you don't want anything from them. If you have a question or complain they make you feel small and stupid. One example of this: one morning I went to the wending machine to get my latte. There is no freshly brewed coffee on the resort you have to help yourself at the machine. So I started the procedure. The machine could not finish my order because there was no milk. I saw an employee and asked for his help. He came there and explained to me how the machine works. I've asked him to demonstrate it. Well he had no more success than I did. Even than I could not get an 'I am sorry'. Somehow he got into the clear while I ended up being in red. I've got so much lecturing in those 5 days that I don't even want to remember. They are doing it wrong, it's their fault and still they make you feel stupid and they lecture you all the way.
Every single interaction for food or drink was a challenge! On our anniversary at dinner we asked for a bucket with ice and a bottle of sparking wine. After about 2 minutes the server comes back asking what kind of wine we want?!
I am very sorry that I booked this vacation. I've spent a lots of money and got not much except bad memories I would never return here nor visit any other Sandal's resorts. My dear fellow travelers do your home work and try other resorts where you will get value for your money. I feel ashamed that I've let the commercial of a dream vacation fog my judgment and not investigate the place before I booked it. Hope my review will help others not to make the same mistake that I did.
