REVISION - please repost - My family and I would NOT return to this resort.
During a family stay March 4-11, 2024, we enjoyed the resort to the best of our ability.
That said, our flight was delayed a couple of times and the transportation from the airport to the resort took quite awhile - arriving 6+ hours after our original time. We were noted at reception as 'no shows' and had no rooms assigned!!! That took another good hour to get this resolved - finally in our rooms at 6 am and this wit[... read more]h a 6 and 14 year old exhausted children.
The food was okay, nothing spectacular and often cold by the time it arrived to the a la carte table. The house wines were fine; no need to purchase overly priced bottles.
The bar staff were okay but more attentive if a US Dollar was flashed :-(
For beach lovers - this is not the resort for you. There is very little beach left and the water was not inviting - I'm a beach lover and playing in the sea/ocean - not once did I feel like getting wet.
Lounge chairs are hard to find; good luck with that.
My family and I would NOT return to this resort.
A couple of suggestions for The Hyatt:
1) install drying lines on the balconies; there is plenty of room to do so
2) try and stop very early morning lounge chairs being taken with towels and nobody showing up for hours
3) add more lounge chairs and sun covers

Grand Sunset Princess: Very good
We thought it was great, especially for kids. Enough food variety. Swimming pools, buffet and beach were good. Animals at the resort. Entertainment was great, Aladdin and Horror show. Taco bar and hamburger grill, food at the beach was good. Room was cozy and worked well for my 9 and 11 yr olds. Perfect for families

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Loved almost everything!
Great staff, beautiful pools and lovely rooms. The beach is nice, but the water isn’t great for swimming because of the seaweed, although the staff tries their best to clear it. The only disappointment was the food at the Mexican restaurant.
I would recommend this resort and would go back again.

Grand Sunset Princess: We love this resort!
This was our second time at the Grand Sunset Princess staying in the Platinum area. We love the layout of resort. We did a morning and evening walk from one end of resort to the lobby early in the morning or after dinner. The early morning walks were a highlight as that's when we saw the most wildlife (deer, cats, agouti, coati, spider monkey's, birds and of course the iguana's. We even managed to see the turtles under the bridge on route to the Chillout area).
I wish people respected the rul[... read more]es and didn't feed the animals. We never had any issues with the animals bothering us but saw a family at the burger grill by the pool who had an issue. The kids were waving their food around at the coati's and calling them over with the parents doing nothing about it. The coati's then went on the table and stole some food. So the mother got upset and threw a sticky drink at the coati's and kept trying to smack them. So it was entirely their fault but the animals get blamed.
We loved the Platinum lounge for snacks and a tea before bed, and the Platinum beach area. We didn't do the towel game and still had plenty of shady options.
The breakfast buffet close to the Platinum area was also wonderful so we didn't have to trek to the lobby first thing if we didn't want to. The room service was just ok this time. Our last stay in 2018, it was exceptional. The coffee however everywhere on the resort was delicious.
The rooms, as I've read with every resort on every review even if a luxury 5 star was a bit tired, but very clean. Housekeeping and the fridge refill person did a wonderful job each day. We had dinner at La Vaqueria was delicious. Sinahi was our waitress and she was very sweet, attentive and professional. Mama Mia was also a hit with waiter Jose. Again he was professional, kind and very attentive.
We ate at the buffet and sports bar the rest of evenings as we didn't want to worry about being somewhere for a reservation at a specific time this trip. The buffet's were pretty good overall. We enjoyed everything for the most part. Anything we didn't like was because it was our choice to try something we weren't familiar with. The beauty however is that you could go back and get something else. I never did understand why people in their reviews complain about the food not being hot. The food is hot when you scoop it onto your plate, but how on earth is it supposed to stay piping hot as you are wandering around piling more food on your plate, then getting to your table to finally sit down to eat? Not sure what miracle they are expecting here. We usually started with cold food on plate first & hot food right before going back to our seats & found it stayed relatively warm enough.
Enjoyed the Taco cart and burger cart by the pools for daily lunch.
The beach was wonderful, we enjoyed wading around with the pelican's diving for fish super close to us. The drink service was good. If you walk towards the lifeguard tower, then into the water, it's quite sandy there with no need for water shoes.
The staff all over the entire resort were warm and friendly at all times even if they were very busy.
We will definitely stay here again and would like to try the adults Villa section.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great resort!
This is a great hotel, with excellent food (5 out of 5), great pools (5 out of 5) but the beach is pretty bad (just a 1, or max 2, out of 5).
We have stayed in another resort in the area few years ago and the beach was pretty bad too, this is not the hotel's fault, it's just the location. So, if you like the beach, then this resort or area in general is not recommended.
The hotel is fantastic, recently renovated, rooms are spacious, the quality and variety of food is excellent, drinks are ve[... read more]ry good (except in pool area). At dinner time, restaurants are excellent, even the buffet, since it changes every night and it's focused in different type of food (Italian, seafood, etc), which is not as the usual buffet where you always see the same food every time...
The resort have kept the forest and built a wooden trail, which is excellent to go for a walk and see monkeys, coatis, lizards, etc.
Just a couple of thumb-down: NO ice-cream, actually you can get for a fee (~ CAD5), and definitely the beach as mentioned before.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: The resort was lovely, but very large, too much walking,
The hotel was lovely, but way too large for the restaurants, so many people with not enough places to eat. Waiting I lines, not able to get into the restaurants because they were already booked even though we tried on our arrival day. Towel bar by the restaurants not by pools, so you had to carry them and then take them back to an area that was 15 min walk from your room. We are in our 70s and we were given rooms farthest away from any of the facilities. The eco environment was lovely, swi[... read more]mming in the senote, and the animals very enjoyable. Large peacocks and monkeys.
The beach and ocean was rocky and you were unable to swim. The staff were pleasant and hard working but unable to answer most questions.
We went on March Break so the place was packed and unable to accommodate so many people at the same time.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Very enjoyable resort!
We (adult family) very much enjoyed our stay at this resort! It is a vast resort, making it a great, safe place to explore. There was quite a bit of walking, but the landscaping was beautiful, and there was lots of wildlife and birds to observe. We also took the electric trolley carts to explore the sister resorts attached to this resort. The buffet had lots of delicious food to try with various themes. We didn't even try the a la carte restaurants as there was so much to try. The staff were exc[... read more]ellent and went out of their way, including Ricardo at check-in, who diligently ensured that our rooms were all together when the travel agent who booked us forgot to note that we were a family and we were put in units very far apart. The beach and pools were great, and the staff served drinks everywhere. My only complaint might be the hard mattress - but the rest of my family loved them and slept soundly. Also, there was the smell of sewer gas in some places, which might have something to do with the mangrove forest throughout the resort, but it was never that bad. Also, the surf was rough this time of year, which also meant there was always a breeze to help you keep cool. The location was near Tulum, with many cenotes, snorkelling lagoons and natural places to explore, but it is a long 2-hour drive from Cancun airport. I would definitely consider returning. The shows were good, especially the Fiesta over at the Hacienda, and the prices of souvenirs were cheaper than the airport and the archeological sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Catalonia Resort
Very nice resort, workers are so kind to everyone. Our rooms on the other hand had a very bad odor of mold/mildew/water damage, not nice enough for what we paid. The meals were meh, tired very quickly of buffet and the same food severed over and over. I do not think I will ever go back to this resort.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Will go back a third time!
Considering that it is Spring break in America and March break in Canada. It was still a good resort for the money that was spent.
Where else can you have daily options of food, a mall, disco, escape room and an outdoor lap pool in one complex?
The nightly shows, were surprisingly good (usually not interested). The Disney theme, was the best with bubbles and characters on their wheelie shoes. Professional, singing and costume design/choregraphy.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Still a great resort
This is a beautiful resort and you feel welcome from the moment you set foot in the lobby.
The grounds are gorgeous and meticulously kept. The buildings and restaurants are clean and pretty well maintained by the staff but there were a few areas that needed some attention. The staff are friendly and very accommodating and attentive.
The pools are beautiful and you never feel crowded.
One thing that I did notice this trip ( we have been to this resort 3 times) was that there seemed to be a sh[... read more]ortage of staff at the pool bars, and some restaurants. We were on vacation so not a big deal to wait for things but I felt for the staff.
The only other small complaint was the quality of the linens in our room weren’t great- towels were frayed, pillows old and flat Still useable but not up to the standards we had experienced previously.

Grand Sunset Princess: Second Time Didn’t Disappoint
Love this place- every type of food/beverage you could want. Beautiful grounds that are well kept and lush. The coati, iguanas, deer and monkeys are all a treat to see- sometimes invasive but not if you remember the rules! The staff were friendly and helpful and took the time to greet you warmly- in the bars, restaurants and the hallways. It was our second time here at the swim up room. These are amazing- best bang for your buck for sure!!!

Beautiful Resort. Everything was great. We loved the food, activities and entertainment. Kids Club was amazing. Lots of activities. They get kids involved in shows. The Teens Club was also great. Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Good but needs change.
The Barcelo resort itself is beautiful. This was our 10th time there over the last 15 years.
The trouble is that some rooms are showing their age - Furniture coming apart, plumbing issues...
We booked the Beach (updated) but were bumped to the Tropical.
The service has gone down in the buffets, especially the beach restaurants and selection diminished.
While unfortunate, if you can get a good deal it is still worth going to the resort.
The grounds of the hotel complex are beautiful and very well maintained. The lobby is very spacious and clean. The swimming pools were clean. The sports facilities including the paddleball and tennis/pickleball courts were in good condition. The swimming area in the ocean was quite rocky, although there were a couple of areas where one could attempt to thread one's way through back to shore.
I had a Premium ground floor "ocean view" room, although one can see the pools from the room, rather t[... read more]he ocean. It had a bit of a musty smell to it, but not overwhelmingly so. The room had two telephones, neither of which functioned upon arrival. These were finally repaired on the second day. The toilet was constantly flushing and then stopped working altogether. It took two days and three repair people to eventually repair this, with the toilet ultimate repaired at midnight on the second day (I was asked if the repair could wait until the morning of the third day, which I declined).
A hot shower was non-existent during my entire stay. I was told to let the water run. After doing so for 15 minutes each time, the water temperature never even reached lukewarm. One day out of seven I once managed to get warm water in the sink. The luxury did not extend to the shower.
Housekeeping made the beds and changed the towels, but the floor was certainly never cleaned.
The main buffet offered a wide variety of options and food temperatures were usually quite good. Service was good on two mornings (when Daniel took care of our table), however the rest of the time, service was barely minimal. When we were forced to go to the Tropical buffet on two occasions, we received no service whatsoever. The à la carte dining experience was better, with the exception of the Italian restaurant at the Tropical. The Kyoto teppanyaki was excellent, as was the Brasserie restaurant at the Palace.
The grounds are beautiful!!! The rooms are very comfortable, clean and has everything you need. All restaurants are amazing! This is my 4th time to this resort and it won't be my last ! Can't wait until next time !

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: A great resort!
We had a wonderful time at the resort and loved the boutique-like feel. We found it super clean everywhere. The staff were all amazing, friendly and went out of their way to help you. The beach was really nice, though breezy every day. They were cleaning sea weed on the beach twice daily when we were there but you could easily avoid it in the water. All the food we had was great and the drinks too! We really didn’t like the chair hogs, however that comes at every resort. And the locals th[... read more]at came in twice through the week to sell their wares we found to be extremely rude and pushy when trying to look at their stuff.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Nice hotel, terrible service
The hotel itself was lovely. The grounds were well kept, the wildlife in the resort is amazing and the rooms are very nice and clean (we had the family suite)
Unfortunately, that is where it ends, the hotel is very understaffed. You wait hours in line for any buffet, if you want to book an A La carte, that is almost impossible as their app barely works, or you have to line up at 6:30am (Mon & Thurs only) to try and get a reservation. Both me and my husband ended up with food poisoning as we[... read more]ll.
Drink lines are long and room service takes forever.
The beach is nice, but you definitely need water shoes if you want to go in the ocean due to all of the rocks.

Kore Tulum Retreat Wellness Resort: Not worth the money.
- Breakfast food was okay - same food for 6 days no change whatsoever.
- food the first day was buffet and cold.
- Second day - Asian and the sauce was very salty - we didn't finish the food
- Third day was Italian - food was okay but all their dessert from menu were not available and you only find out when you ask. No info in advance. They also don't know how to explain why there is no desert. Im fluent in Spanish btw.
- Fourth day: Creme Brûlée was a pudim and when i went to talk to t[... read more]he waiter I was told that was Mexican style. It was again Italian night. Same food as previous day. The "Greek Salad" was tasty but again it was not Greek.
- Red wine is always chilled
- Cheesecake was a simple cale as per picture.
- 2 nights steak back to back.
Recreation:
- Non existent. Other than music there were zero activity.
- Not enough chairs for the guests to seat by the pool.
Spa
The ladies were wonderful. No complains. The steam room was cold. The service was great 10:10
Room:
- Internet didn't work 70% of the time for a simple phone call.
- Shower water didnt have pressure and we spent 1 full day without water to shower or brush teeth and no communication on why this happened. When we asked them, they told us that something had broken.
- We didnt have hot water for 2 days.
- The phone in the room didn't work, the other couple the tv didn't work.
- It took 5 hours to fill the jacuzzi and it supposed to be 40 minutes according to them.
- Housekeeping arrives to clean at 8:30-9am knocking and waking you up.
- No warm water or hot water in the room for 4 days.
- No water 1 day in the whole resort.
- No communication about the shortcomings
- Phone didnt work the entire trip. We asked the reception to fix numerous time.
Staff:
- Freddy and George were the highlight. They should train the other employees. Most of them were friendly.
- One staff was argumentative over the creme brule not being creme brule and he just shrub me off.
The bike:
You can take the bike which is nice but no process for guests. When you go get the bike they send you back to the reception to get a paper to fill out.
Tulum National Park- I couldn't get because there was police with heavy artillery looking inside cars for water bottles. After you pass that there were guards charging 60 pesos to enter and no cards or dollar. - no where written down about the process.
