Tropicana Hotel: Clean & comfy!

This was my third or fourth stay at the Tropicana and the cleanliness, staff efficiency ahd friendliness have been consistently good. Pool and beachfront well serviced and maintained. It's situated well for wandering around old Vallarta. Feels like home when we get there, and we will go back..

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: Location, location, location.

We met here 21 years ago, and are in our mid sixties. We have been to Mexico at least 30 times, and cruised for over 120 days. Surprise, we go a cab ride from the scare port to the hotel...instead of the usual big bus milk run. Staff great, rooms great, hot water and pressure, way better than at home. RM 1247 with balcony and ocean view. Beach was in good shape, at the end of Jan. stayed 10 days. Pool area has limited space, but we are beach people. Food was surprising. We had  [... read more]some wonderful meals, especially at the beach restaurant. We could not believe the beef medallions, out of this world, melt in your mouth. Also the cream seafood soup there was to die for. They used lamb broth and sea food to create a rich flavor. Beef burria in the buffet was also a favorite. A lot of the food was totally acceptable, if you could not find anything there to your liking, I would be surprised. Service was awesome, even at the beach the servers were on it, drinks, drinks and more drinks. Hey it's not the Mayan Palace, expect some rough edges. The clientele are a fun crowd, easy going and seemed to mix a little more than normal.

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol: Good, established resort close in to town centre

This resort has been around for a while and it is one that I would highly recommend. It is well run and well maintained. It is good value for the money. The staff are friendly and the food is good. It is a short taxi ride into the old town of PV. The only knock is that they need more elevators. Then, of course there is the big "time share" thing that seems to plague every resort down in Mexico. So sad!

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Loved it !!!!!

All staff was Amazing I would like to personally thank Omar & bartender (beach bar) Jesus (everywhere awsome) Victor (surf instructor) Eder (surf instructor) Life guards Bernardo (disco) Jasmin (disco) Adult pool staff And many more Thank you for making it the best vacation ever :) !!!!! The Tenors were beyond incredible WOW!!!!

Sunset Plaza Beach Resort & Spa: Top notch resort

Grand Marival Emotions Resort and Suites: A Fantastic Resort!

This is a great resort with really great food and hard working friendly staff. Several pools, well groomed beach with lots of chairs. Entertainment was good too. Food was excellent, bars served good quality drinks. We definitely would come back...however..there were a couple of issues. We requested ocean view rooms ( friends of ours and us)- didn't get them. We really didn't like the high pressure sales pitch(time share) upon checkin but ither than that - no complaints.

Plaza Pelicanos Club: Not What The Reviews Report

Would not go back to this hotel. I think there is is some review confusion between this hotel and the sister hotel the Pelicanos GRAND. To start: The cleaning staff did a reasonable job cleaning our room with a 20 peso tip, however the common areas were a different story. Hallways and stairs had chewing gum deposits that have been there for a very long time based on the colour.(Black). One thing not in the reviews or hotel information is the disco club which is very close to the hotel and they start blasting out noise mostly BASE from midnight to 4.30 am. The majority of the hotel can hear this based on other people we talked with. Make sure you have very good ear plugs.(Not Every Night) Have no complaints with the staff, friendly and helpful. Worth every peso you tip. This hotel is a party hotel, there is a lot of Mexicans and the Canadians that are there, seem to all smoke. If you want to sit around the pools then you will find it hard to find a non smoking area. This is classified as a non smoking hotel but it is not enforced, so even in the hall ways you smell this crap. If you want roast beef,steak, or butter you are not going to get it here. Most meat is in a sauces. There is always chicken, in a sauce, grilled, barbecued, fried.Best meal of the day is breakfast and sometimes lunch. There is always fruit, desert, but no ice cream.Food is very repetitive and mostly spicey catering to the Mexicans. There are 2 pools. One where you check in and the other is across the road where all the activities take place. The pool across the road has food through out the day, hot dogs ,ham burgers, and pizza. The bars close around 500 PM except the margarita bar which is open until I think 11.00 pm. ( I never went there because they only serve margarita and mojitos.) If you want beer or wine you have to get from the dinning room. When entertainment starts at 9.00 pm across the road the bar opens, there however it only served beer. There is a small coffee shop which is open all day and serves espresso, coffee, cold water, sandwiches at noon and snacks.

Crown Paradise Golden: Great place to stay on our first Mexico trip

We really enjoyed our stay at the Crown Paradise Golden all inclusive resort. It is situated right close to the Marina where we boarded the Pirate ship for an evening cruise and got to see a big cruise ship parked there on our last day. We could easily and cheaply get to downtown using the city bus... a 10-15 minute ride costing only $7.50 MXN ($.0.50 CDN). We were very satisfied with our room, which was facing the pool area. All the staff was friendly and helpful: bellboys, front desk, tourist information desk, waiters and bar tenders. Being on the adults only side, we also had access to the Crown Paradise Club (for families). We walked around those premices also and tried out the different pools. We could have gone to 5 different specialty restaurants on both premices, but we were actually very satisfied with our buffet where no reservations and special dress codes were required. There was a nice variety of foods and menus. So that is where we took most of our meals except when we went out downtown or on excursions which included a meal. The beach was pretty nice and there were lounge chairs and even outdoor beds on the beach on which to relax. We walked down the beach for a few kilometers going south (towards downtown) and noticed that the beach we had seemed to have nicer sand and shoreline. The only complaint we have is that the internet access sometimes didn't work well, especially in our room. All in all, it was a great vacation... a nice getaway from "Winterpeg". Seven days went by very quickly. We would definitely recommend this hotel :D

Flamingo Vallarta: conveniently located

Usually we stay at large resorts located directly on the beach. This time, we decided to stay at a smaller hotel and we weren't looking for a beach vacation. This hotel fit the bill. While it is considered a budget hotel, it had most of the amenities one would expect, and more. It was located on a beautiful marina with a long boardwalk - filled with shops, restaurants and bars. It was a short 5 minute walk to the bus stop (taking one downtown and to the romantic zone). The location was als [... read more]o an ideal jumping off point to Bucerias, Sayalita and other beach towns further north up the coast. While it has pnly one restaurant, there was a decent variety of food every day at the buffet. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite large. One of the best things about this hotel is that every room has a view of the pool and the marina, with nice size balconies. The common areas, lobby, grounds and hallways are kept immaculately clean. We were completely satisfied with our stay at Flamingo Vallarta! It is not close to the beach, however it offers a shuttle to a beach club every day. You do have to either pay or order food at the beach club. The other option, if you're a beach lover, is to take a bus to one of the many gorgeous beaches in and around Puerto Vallarta.

Melia Puerto Vallarta: Great resort!

Loved the location of this hotel. My husband and I like to explore outside of the resort and found the location of this hotel to be perfect. We were able to walk across the street to the Marina where there was a variety of restaurants and shops and about a 15 minute cab or bus ride from the city. The hotel and our room was very clean and the service was excellent. We had a beautiful ocean and mountain view and we were able to watch the cruise ships sail in and out of the Marina. Krystal Puerto Vallarta: Nice place

It is a very nice resort.Since I have never stayed at a 5 star this resort was a 5 star to me.The food was amazing,very authentic with a lot of variety.The staff was always friendly and polite.If you want a Mexican vacation experience try this place.I understand that the small resort on the beach.where we stayed is being torn down to make way for ANOTHER condominium tower.So sad.It is one of the only original places left.

Riu Flamingos: Great Resort!

Dining was good. The Italian was the best, along with the steakhouse. The Asian restaurant was the worst and we didn't return and it seemed to be the consensus with about 12 other people we met at the resort. The resort itself was very nice, friendly staff- had everything you could need. Only thing I was missing was decent sushi and hot tubs. Other than that, all good!

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Fantastic resort for our family

This is a very family centered resort from the kids club to the mini club to the staff at the sports shack on the beach. Even the bar tenders were great with our two little girls. We will definitely be going again in the future. Where else can you work on trying to surf for free?

Las Palmas by the Sea: Love this place

This is our second time here and we love it. The food is better than I've had at other resorts that are five star. The activity coordinators are so funny and sweet. I can't wait to see Pablo and Jose again next year. Nightly entertainment was great too... Especially the Michael Jackson site and circus. The pools were clean and heated and serving staff very efficient. The bar staff are all so friendly and provide excellent service. Rooms were well cleaned.

Crown Paradise Club: Go elsewhere

Good: •clean rooms and pools •David from adult pool bar awesome bar tender...one of the only good things from this vacation •Buffet was good every night but kinda pissed i had to eat there every night. Bad: time share timeshare did I say time-Share??! Land at the airport get sucked right in! Getaway to go to air Canada transport get harassed by air Canada rep at hotel "please sit for an hour and a half to hear about our website?" No thanks... continues on and has the nerve to say "si [... read more]r I've spent a lot of time with you (WE DIDNT WANT YOU we wanted you to SHUT UP And leave us alone!) Please sir sit in and listen to meeting this is how I make better life for my family ". These people don't STOP with time share/website crap! •beach is dark and smelly Not swim-able •Only "dos equis" beer on tap no corona or sol •Only heineken beer in rooms. Left big tip and a note to please replace bar fridge with anything but heineken but they left me again with heineken. had to pay for decent beer at gift shops •Restaurants sucked, called 3 days couldn't get through to make reservations went to concierge to try they told me to call only. Stupid way to do things. I'd avoid Puerto Vallarta if your looking for a nice beach because this beach looks NOTHING like the photos on the site. I would never go here again and feel what I was way over charged for what I got.

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Great time there

Had a great time there a older bunch but they can still party , the staff where great lots of fun go out f there way to make you feel great clean great food small but charming but they all know your name by day two , just a great place to stay

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills: We would return

Stay from Jan 21 to 28. Rooms 4033 & 4034. Air Canada Vacations. You will see that we travel yearly with another couple and try different AI resorts. We have been to the Grand Sirenis in the Mayan which is why we agreed to try this resort. There were issues, but nothing devastating enough to sway us to never return. Yes, this resort is not for anyone with mobility issues. Some of the hills are quite steep and the complex is large. There are taxis and golf carts that run around the resort pic [... read more]king up people and dropping them off, but you may have to wait a few minutes before they arrive or if you are lucky (as we were a few times) they just happen to be at the right place at the right time. There were no kids here during our stay, although they advertise child friendly. This is a quiet resort, don’t come here looking to party. Rooms: As I understand it, the rooms are being remodeled but not all have been completed so I can only comment on our rooms. They are large and comfortable with many drawers and shelves for your belongings. The floor is sealed concrete, which we found odd but it did not bother us. The bath is separate from the toilet and sink which is very handy. Our bath/shower included a large soaker tub and rain shower head, which was quite nice. The fridge is stocked daily (for the most part) and there is NO liquor dispenser in the room (we just bought our own at duty free). The WIFI is excellent in the room and also around the pool areas. The safe is very large, enough to hold three tablets, wallets, the camera and room to spare. We had adjoining rooms and also adjoining balconies, which we loved. Issues: Housekeeping!! Our room was consistently not attended too properly (this was a theme in our block of rooms). From no towels or untouched towels, no coffee, no clean glasses and cups or even to leaving a cleaning cloth in the room. We noticed that on the Friday and Saturday, we had different cleaning staff and all of a sudden our rooms were taken care of correctly. Our fridge was on a couple of occasions not restocked with beer….I did not care, but my husband did. Food: The buffets are on the smaller side. Buffets: Breakfast can be had at either the Adult only one (which doubles as the Italian in the evening) or at the regular buffet (also serving lunch and dinner) but they are exactly the same (same food at both, we checked). You can get eggs or omelettes cooked fresh but no other grilled options. There was a selection of meats, cheese, fruit and pasties along with your usual breakfast items. Lunch is either from the buffet or off a smaller menu from the bars. The lunch buffet was nice including fresh grilled meats, vegetables, salad, fruit and pastries. The bar menu cooking was a bit off. Nacos Americano, at the Adult bar, included fresh cut peppers and other items along with meat and cheese sauce. Then at the main bar, one time it was just nachos with meat and cheese and then another time it included beans. The wings were so dry I had trouble eating them at the Adult bar. The Quesadilla was just bad, a tortilla with a bit of cheese and grilled. The Salad was very nice and included many different fresh vegetables, pickled onions and olives. Dinner buffet varies by theme, however, outside of the Wednesday Mexican night; we found them to be the same. We were told that Tuesday was Chinese theme, but it was the same offering as on Sunday when we arrived. Issues at all the buffets: Most of the food was not hot. A la Carte: We only reserved the Japanese and Steak house (twice). Japanese was fun but on our arrival the music was way too loud and we could not hear the server trying to explain things, so this caused an initial irritation. But by the time the talented chef arrived and started dazzling us with his tricks, we enjoyed it very much. Steak House had issues both times. Clearly they change staff in this restaurant and it showed. The first time, two of our dinners where served to the wrong table. You can guess the problems that caused, but the servers were very apologetic. However the food was good, steaks where done to asking and we ultimately enjoyed our meal. The second time however, the service was fine but the steaks where cooked all too rare, the strip loin was tough, the salmon overcooked and they forgot my vegetables. Issues: consistency at the Steak House will cause mixed reviews. Grounds & Pools: Beautiful and lush. This is a very beautiful spot set back into the mountain but you can see the coast. We walked around exploring and it would appear there is an addition with a new very large pool in the making. The pools are refreshing and clean. There are 3 warm pools and a regular pool at the adult area but the lounges are hard as rock. They need to add cushions. There are 2 regular and one warm pool at the main area. The lounges are comfortable and plenty. There is NO swim up bar but there are servers attending to your needs. The Beach Club: Major disappointment, Sirenis should demand better standards. We only went to the beach club once and would not return (we actually spent a day on Bucerias beach instead: see other review). The toilet doors do not close (F) or do not exist (M), the food was unmarked and mysterious and most burnt your mouth off (spicy). There was a barbecue there but they served burgers that were sitting in a warmer. The lounges are uncomfortable. The bar drinks where the only thing that was great! This review sounds overly negative but with due respect, the staff here is awesome. Any issues or requests we had were handled in top priority. You can clearly see that they aim to please. From our omelette lady and server in the Adult restaurant to the housekeeping staff, they seem to all want to ensure that your stay is a positive one. Once the bugs are worked out and the new additions are completed, this will be a 5 star destination.

Hilton Vallarta Riviera Resort: Beautiful Resort

The Grand Fiesta Americana is a beautiful but small resort. Very modern decor, immaculately clean, with a "high end" feel. Every staff member is fantastic; they all go out of their way to please their guests. A special mention of Fernando, Angel, and the young lady in the Sweet Shop, who's services made our experience memorable. The only negatives we could list are: because the resort was built in the style of a high rise hotel and is west facing with the grounds laying between the building and [... read more] the Pacific - the sun is blocked from the pools and beach until about 12:30 pm. Great view though, as all suites have an ocean view. If you are looking for a beach type of vacation, this is not the resort for you as the beach is small, rocky and rough; swimming is discouraged. Also, the resort caters largely to convention groups therefore there are sometimes restaurants and activities that regular guests are excluded from. There is nightly entertainment, but no exposure to Mexican culture whatsoever, which was disappointing. A more varied selection for dinner at D'Brick buffet restaurant would be good. All in all a good trip; nice to escape from our Canadian winter. Probably would not return to this resort.

Sunscape Puerto Vallarta: Sunscape Hotel Puerto Vallarta

We like the hotel because of its location. The beach is nice and there is lots of activity on the beach. The biggest problem on the beach was the hotel did not supply enough lounges or chairs for the number of guests. People were up at 7:00 a.m. placing a towel on their lounge and kept the same chair the whole day. The hotel has been upgraded and the upgrades are very nice. We are familiar with the hotel as we were there several times when owned by the Holiday Inn. We were disappointed wi [... read more]th the room we received on arrival. It was a handicap room on the bottom floor. The shower was huge and there was no door on it, nor did we receive a bath mat and had to use one of our two towels to keep water off the bathroom floor. It was very noisy during the night as people were partying very late and people were talking loudly. After the second night, we were able to move to another room in the tower, which was very acceptable. The dining area has been improved and made larger. We missed having the colorful tablecloths that were used by the Holiday. They used a placemat on each table, which was very seldom cleaned. Also, they did not supply salt and pepper at each table. We had to ask for them at each meal. They did not provide straws for the drinks, making it very difficult to drink an icy drink..

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Mostly great... except the deprived captive animals

Overall it was a great trip. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful - and there's a lot of them so the vast majority were warm and welcoming. The place was clean and the food was pretty good. I was irritated with some of the hostess' attitudes (e.g. at Portofino) and one in the Viva Mexico restaurant speaking about my dress in Spanish not knowing that I too speak Spanish (although one gentleman later came and apologized to me, and my server Roberto was excellent). I was disapp [... read more]ointed that my daughter's tiny, size 7 toddler, hard to replace flip flops were stolen from our room leaving her with only runners half of our stay. I also heard that a smaller amount of money was taken out of my friend's wallet while it was being cleaned. I feel as though if I complained I would have reimbursed me for them but I didn't feel like having the awkward, negative conversation while debating if someone steals shoes because they're paid poorly (I don't know how well staff are/aren't paid) is it still wrong? I didn't need that on my conscience on vacation. The "zoo" however is unconscionable. Two monkeys are cooped up in a small cage containing one tree with no branches Spider monkeys travel between 1 to 3km daily with a group of 10 to 30 family members. The ostrich looks unwell, like it's been pulling out its own feathers. It was awful to see.
