Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Very nice resort
Our room was near the pool so amazing views. Riom was dated but we still liked it. The sliding doors had little gaps so we had to stuff toilet paper in as there were alot of mosquitoes. Our group of 6 had alot of bites, and beach had alot of sand pleas.
Meals were disappointing actually, best was Japanese.

Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana: Amazing time!
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Dreams Macao Beach resort. Everything was very well kept and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful! The food at the restaurants were good and we had no problem getting seats at the restaurants either (thought this would be harder since we went during March break). My only wish would be that a few restaurants opened earlier as we were travelling with young kids who have early bedtimes. The entertainment for the kids after dinner was a lot of fun! Overall, w[... read more]here our room was located was fairly quiet during the night and had minimum disruptions. We would definitely recommended to families with young children!

Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: First time here
We just spent nine nights here from February 24th to March 7th 2025 and throughly enjoyed every day. We had a ground floor ocean view room which provided walk out to the main pool and the main bar. What more could you ask for!!! The room was very quiet with hot water showers every day and excellent maid service, the only drawback back was a lack of electrical outlets ( which I did mention to the reception desk) only two outlets, one in bathroom and two in the room ( both fully occupied). Not a[... read more] big deal as we made due for charging phones.
The food at both the international and the buffet was fantastic, and all drinks were excellent, and were Top shelf. The only drawback was the beach which is somewhat smaller and because it is in a cove , it has a very strong undertow. On the far slide of the Casa Marina section is a larger beach which you can walk on , but because it is not part of a resort, you will pay for a lounge chair and umbrella.
The select part of this resort is well worth the extra cost, and well were there, new lounge chairs were replacing the older ones, which then went to the beach area. New Manager we were told.
In closing the resort in both sections were kept very clean and the restaurants in the Marina section was good, so say we will come back again and maybe get swim out room

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Nice Vacation
My wife and I had a nice 7 day vacation and really enjoyed ourselves.
Rooms are old and would need better upkeep but they were cleaned everyday and ultimately we weren't there to stay in our room. The grounds were for the most part well maintained. The pool and surrounding area would need need some additional TLC with loose and missing tiles here and there.
The staff was great, the food was good and the beach was beautiful.

Secrets Tides Punta Cana: Very disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We expected the best as we had paid for the best package. The appearance was very new and clean. We paid for ocean view suite but no view of the ocean was there....too much beach chairs and bars everywhere, blocking the view. The cleanliness of our room was less than expected....floors and mirrors were not done for our arrival or during the stay which was disappointing. Paying for a butler was not a good decision...he did nothing for us...he said good morning and failed to follow through on an[... read more]y requests we made forcing me to go to the concierge to insist in physical accommodation to allow me to access the beach. The food at the main buffet was very disappointing so we did not eat there if we could help it. The restaurants were the best part of the experience...good staff attention and excellent meals.
I would never pay for preferred status again...it was extremely expensive and not worth the service....if you were not tipping they would not serve...completely ignored us on the last day I guess since we were leaving soon but I paid for the full week of service. Lastly, the beach was not relaxing...the hotel allowed a truck load of vendors on the beach each day and they constantly begged and asked for money for their wares. In addition, people who did not pay for preferred came on our beach and got served as well so what did we pay $15, 000 for??????

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: Perfect for escape!
It’s an amazing hotel if you are romantic personality and admire the view. The beach is very private, you can read your book without anyone trying to sell you sombrero; it’s quiet around the pool, just lounge or instrumental music (thank you), the food was ok, I could find something tasty for each meal and the rooms obviously need more care, especially in the bathroom. But who cares when you are among all these beauty? I’ve visited spa as well and it was pretty decent.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Exceeded expectations!
I recently stayed at this exceptional resort, and I can confidently say that the experience far exceeded my expectations. The photos on the website simply don’t do it justice! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this place is committed to quality and service. The food was of the highest standard, and what impressed me most was how it was always available. Whether it was a quick snack or a full meal, there was never a shortage of options.
The staff was always visible and working tire[... read more]lessly to maintain the property. Bathrooms were constantly being cleaned, and I even noticed them painting and touching up various areas—no corner was left unattended. The pool and pool bar were spacious, never overcrowded, and perfect for relaxing or having fun. The beach was stunning, and there was so much to do, from water sports to lounging by the shore.
One of the highlights of our stay was the snorkeling. My kids and I went three times, and it was all included at no extra cost. It honestly felt like we were swimming in a giant fish tank, surrounded by thousands of vibrant fish—such a magical experience!
Entertainment was always on point, with activities running throughout the entire day to keep everyone engaged. The only suggestion I’d have is to start the nighttime parties a little earlier. My kids were so excited to join in, but they were often too tired by the time the fun began. An earlier start time would be perfect!
Overall, I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fantastic family vacation experience. We had an unforgettable time, and I’ll definitely be telling everyone I know about this amazing place!

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Nice Resort
Nice hotel! Grounds were very nice. Rooms were clean. Beach was nice but rocky going into the water. Take water shoes. March break was busy. Getting up at 5:30 in the morning to get a Palapa for shade is not ideal. Service was mediocre. Food and drinks we’re mediocre. They were always out of something when you asked. Every drink the bartenders made they were always looking for the ingredients. Always. It was like they were doing it for the first time, every time.

Grand Bavaro Princess: Average Resort - Grand Bavaro Princess
In general, our stay was enjoyable. That was mostly due to having visited the resort the year previous so we knew what to expect and how to find the things that were most enjoyable for us. Unfortunately, however, there were some issues. We had an important sewer pipe leak just outside our room resulting in a flooding of the general area with contaminated and repulsive smelling raw sewer. Thankfully, the winds were moving away from our room so the affect was at least limited by that. The hot[... read more]el staff were quick to respond to the problem and they had it mostly repaired within a day. The a la carte restaurants had nothing to offer to our taste. We were aware of that from the previous visit. We used the buffets exclusively. The food there was predictably good and predictably poor: Good: chicken, pastas, breads, pork ham, pizza. Poor: beef, lamb, deep-fried fish all of which was mostly inedible. Pools were nice, especially the quiet pool. Ocean was what it always is - cool and refreshing. Beach well cleaned and the locals selling goods were not overly pesky. Overall, we have had worse stays (in Cuba mainly), but we certainly have had better also.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort
This was our 3rd time here. It's a beautiful resort. The grounds are so well maintained. The orchid garden is my favorite !.
The staff are the most friendly people very. Not once did we encounter any issues.
We did have a delay when we arrived as our room wasn't ready. This was a bit frustrating as we were tired from our early morning flight.
We had requested a ground or 1st floor with a King bed. Ended up on top floor (2nd) as other request not available. Buildings are 3 floors ..[... read more] ground, 1st and 2nd floors. Good thing we could still do stairs as we are seniors...lol.
Wasn't too sure about some of the food at first, but didn't take long what not to have. I did find some of them meats where overcooked, especially the chicken at the buffet... very dry.. But, always had a great selection, and enjoyed it . Didn't care for the Italian A La Carte. Selected the lasagna, didn't care for it at all. The lasagna at the buffet was much better.
Saw a lot of negative comments on a FB group that the pool wasn't clean, we never had a issue with it. Of course you'll have leaves or bugs from time to time, that's normal. The beach was also very well maintained. .. windy, but lovely. Was surprised that they didn't have bar service by the pool.(staff member taking orders) or at the beach. But, access to a bar was never far away.
Found out you had to "reserve" your chairs early by the pool if you wanted a good spot that provided shade later in day, Only 1 day when we did the half day City tour we couldn't get chairs at the pool or beach.. very disappointing.. Later found out about the Cruise ships that have excursions to come to the resort for 5 hours. They took any remaining available chairs. Sure enough I noticed at 11am a stream of people coming in with blue towels, different to the ones provide to us staying at the resort.
Our room was very clean, no complaints there. Funny thing, the table and 2 Charis in our room had been removed, but not a big deal. Know this from several other times we've stayed at resorts with same room selection. Bar fridge always stocked. (Beer and pop).. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion provided.. Ok, but next time I think I'd take my own shampoo. Had to request face cloths, not left as normal with other towels, only did the once, and they where always then provided.
A virus was still going around the resort. So many people had it. Thank goodness only lasted 24 hours. My husband got but I didn't. Remember to take Pepto Bismol with you, and wash your hands and use the hand sanitizer provided at the buffet, and A La Cart locations.
Had a lot fun playing some of the games .. darts, ring toss, golf, corn hole toss. Meet a lot of really nice people.
Never any issues with people getting out of hand from drinking too much, at least not that we ever saw.
Since this was our 3rd visit to this resort, (have also been to Punta Cana and La Romana) we didn't really need to do a lot of the excursions. Our concierge (Taveras) was most helpful. He arranged for a taxi to take us to some spots we had not seen before. Umbrella and Pink Streets .. ok alleys... a must see ! Also went to City Square, the Cathedral and a great Cigar Store Vivonte near the square. Then to Jumbo to buy Brugal Rum, Santa Domingo coffee and vanilla.
Another great trip with more memories. If you haven't been to Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada, it's worth trying !!

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Great resort for the price!
First time at a Majestic resort although I have been to several others in this price range. This was a good one! It was very clean, service was excellent, and there was lots of entertainment and night life. The week I went, the resort was full of spring breakers. They were generally polite and well behaved, it was nice to see people having fun. And lots of opportunities for the generations to mix. At the beach party on our first night the dance floor was filled with kids and moms all having a go[... read more]od time.
Rooms were spacious and comfortable. only complaint about the room and it's a big one: why the open concept bathroom? who wants that? I understand it is common in the area. (to be clear the shower and toilet are each behind a frosted glass door, but they face an open space that includes the sinks and tub. You wouldn't want anyone coming to the room while someone is using the toilet, they would have to walk right past and would get a view of the person's knees through the frosted glass!)
Beach was lovely although the shade/palapa areas were very tightly crowded together.
The hotel was full, yet we were able to get lounge chairs by the pool at any time, at the quiet end of the pool if nowhere else. OK with me. By mid-afternoon spots tended to open up in the shade at the beach. This is better than some.
The evening entertainment was excellent! We only attended two shows in the theatre and both were great. The absolute best and most memorable was the rock show. My compliments to all of the performers: singers, dancers, the band, and the lead guitarist. Everyone was professional and very talented. I felt privileged to see that show. The second show we saw was the Michael Jackson show (I think every resort does one of these) Very good dancing and lip synching and very entertaining. But nothing like the live vocals and live music of the rock show.
Meals were OK. We had a couple of great ones (once at the Rodeo Grill steak house, and the other at Le Gourmet), and others that were just OK, but I don't like to complain - with the logistics of feeding so many people it must be hard to keep everything just so. I certainly got enough to eat, lots of variety and plenty of healthy choices.
One thing I didn't like: on our first day one of the animation crew approached my husband and me by the pool and asked if we were having fun, then asked us to scan a QR code on his phone and leave a 5 star review, right then and there. We did explain it was our first day and we would leave a review after our vacation. I thought oh darn, did I make a mistake? I chose this resort because of the good reviews but is this how they get those good reviews?
Anyway here I am writing a good review after returning. It really was one of the better experiences we have had in this price range. I would return and would recommend it to friends.
Also: please bring cash for tips - perhaps a percentage of what you paid for your vacation - and plan to spend it! We are privileged to be able to have a vacation like this and the staff depend on the tips.

Viva V Samana by Wyndham: Honest Review
Pros
* Beautiful beach, raked daily
* Clean updated guest rooms
* Friendly staff
* Short commute from Samana Airport
* Excellent service & food in a la carte restaurants
Cons
* Use of drones on the beach (invasion of privacy)
* In order to get a chair on the beach, you must get up before 6 AM to set out a towel on a chair
* Smoking in posted non smoking areas
* Dress code not enforced for a la carte dining (guests wearing shorts, printed t-shirts, flip flops, etc)
* Not much hot[... read more] water, for showers, in the evening
* Only 1 bar to service both the pool and beach guests, always a queue
* Under staffed throughout resort
* Very difficult to make reservations at the a la carte restaurants (early times seemed to be gone, when the dates opened up 4 days prior)
* Beach towel availability was hit and miss due to no exchange program, lack of guests returning towels, towels not being collected at the end of the day from the beach and pool
* Club Viva members jumping the queue for drink service, having their own roped off area of the beach, rooftop bar, their own area in the buffet, etc.
* Difficult to find a clean table, or one with a full place setting, at the buffet (always searching for utensils, napkins or glassware)
* Difficult to get coffee/tea at breakfast or wine at dinner due to what seemed like a lack of staffing in the buffet dining area
* Club Viva salespeople constantly hounding
* Food poisoning on Tuesday, February 25th (which was confirmed with other guests as they too had it on the same day). Resort does not consider it food poisoning unless you visit the doctor and report it, which is difficult to do when unable to leave the room
* Feral cats/dogs all over the resort. Witnessed a cat using the beach as a litter box

Dreams La Romana: Beautiful Resort
Everything was top quality. The staff very friendly greeting you with an Ohla and a touch right hand to their heart. People play the stupid towel game and you’ll need to be at the beach/pool by 7 to play. Som towels won’t move till noon. Security should remove after one hr. We found the beach very busy with lounge chairs. Too many people for size of beach. ENCLAVE; Y or N ?
We had and there are specific places in the beach or pools that indicate Enclave Only. But we were never checked. I guess [... read more]someone complained and the last day, we were asked our room number. As far a a room, we had 7107. I’d say the best of the resort. TOTALLY PRIVATE. No one walking by, backs onto greenway and edge of resort. Be naked on patio if you’d like. Very quiet. 6 USB charging plugs. Food was good. Many items ordered was not what is expected. Like fried breaded chicken pieces in a Caesar salad. Lamb was very good. Adult section is better, no kids running up and down lobby area. Tennis and pickleball could use more exposure. The location is not even on resort map. Good gym. Would certainly recommend but would not return, mainly because of the small beach. Don’t waste your time snorkelling.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: 2nd time at this resort and loved it even more!
Last year we stayed in an older "house" and while it was quite nice with a canopy over the bed and terra cotta everywhere, this time around the newly renovated house (#10) closer to the beach was gorgeous. Spotless! Decor all in beige and cream with ratan lighting, minimalist decor, very tidy.
Staff was great, the odd grump but most were so kind and so welcoming. Our room was always cleaned up spotlessly with fresh towels and fridge stocked.
Food was as expected. We're not fussy so alway[... read more]s able to find things to eat. Breakfast was our favourite, omelette guy and smoothie girl were our highlights to start the day. Omelette guy would sing to us with a beautiful voice and smoothie girl was just the sweetest. Pick of 3 restaurants, we did seafood restaurant and loved. Mediterranean was so-so and Japanese was not so good. this time around we discovered the Bavaro next door (via beach) has a lunch buffet that we could also go to and it was very good. Amazing view and a great hostess Elisabetha.
Beach was beautiful. Some days alot of seeweed so we would walk up the shore to swim. some days no seeweed and gorgeous clear water. We would go early each morning (6:30ish) to put towels on our chaise lounge other wise you would not have a good spot come 9 a.m. I'm pretty sure some people leave their towels on the lounges over night! It was worth it to see the sunrise each morning! We are not pool people but the pool areas always look like a lot of fun.
Check in both years have been extremely slow and you can see a lot of peoples getting frustrated checking in, so be prepared for that and all will be great. Your'e in paradise, enjoy!
We liked that the resort was smallish so everything was close by. The beach was beautiful and the water was great. The food was good. The bar was very poorly stocked and they were all very inconsistent in the way they made drinks. The service in the restaurants was really not up to snuff. We kept having to remind them of our order. There were no stage shows, just some mediocre music in the lobby area. I’d say this is more like a 4 star. T

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: Very nice resort!
We were a family of four traveling to Ocean El Fero. 2 adults and 2 teens. This is a typical all inclusive resort, but I really have nothing bad to say about it. Even at max capacity itwasn’t overcrowded. We were always able to reserve seats as long as we went out early, and the food was pretty decent for Dominican Republic. Our room had a nice patio with a swing and there were some rooms that were swim out, which looked very nice. We spent quite a bit of time at the beach and the lazy river. We[... read more] arrived on a Thursday and there were many vendors pressing for sales in the main eating area, which was a bit alarming as we were just arriving, but they were only there that first day possibly every Thursday? Overall, a great experience I wouldn’t return unless it was free as there’s too many other places to see, but not for any other reason.
