Sunscape Sabor Cozumel: A very nice resort for the price
This is a smaller resort so everything is handy, well laid out. The activities were enjoyable and the staff encouraged guest to join in a pleasant manner.
Children would enjoy the different activities.
The resort was clean and you could see workers cleaning throughout the day. There even was an older fellow wiping the small tables at the beach, picking up glasses, and wiping chairs throughout the day.
The meals were tasty and plentiful.
The entertainment was typical but the length was good ( enj[... read more]oyable but not over kill)
If you want to have an outside balcony you should request one as some ground floor rooms were on walkway's.
A lobby bar that is open all day and pleasant in appearance would have been nice.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great Resort for Families
I really liked the variety. There was something for everyone. The sea turtles located right at the beach was a bonus. The resort was prompt at addressing any of our needs or concerns. Overall a great vacation. I feel relaxed.

Grand Decameron Los Cabos: Nice and small... perfect for families!
We were family of 3 + mother in law.
Check in was easy and they did their best to accommodate our request to have 2 rooms side by side.
However, be careful, you have to pay for your safe for the week, works out to approx $25 for the week. This is last chance cash grab, as the safes are available in all rooms anyways and no money would have been required. If you've used them before (enter code), you will have no problem, so save the $25 and just use. This upset us as we through $25 out the door a[... read more]nd it would not have been required. They tell you there would be no access but there is, save the money and do not pay for safe access. Wifi is an extra charge as well, $10 u.s./day for 24 hour access.
Anyways, we were happy with the rooms #125 & #126, side by side and we could visit on the patio outside. The patios faced the garden area, and we could see the pools and bar/show stage easily. Very nice location to be. Rooms are 1 King w/Double Sofa Futon (bring your own bedding), or 2 Double Beds and Chairs. The resort is king room, then double room, then king, double, etc. Perfect for families (no access through rooms though)
Staff was great, everyone friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and check in regularly.
Property is small and intimate. Everyone knows everyone by end of your trip. Only 2 restaurant, 1 is buffet (each night they change up the menu, eg. Oriental, Mexican, etc.) and 1 snack restaurant which turns into a la carte for evening meals. Every 2 days the menu changes, Mediterranean, Italian, etc. Very good food here.
The buffet is small, not a lot of choice, but good. If you love eggs (omeletes) have them cook them longer, always runny if you don't ask.
A La Carte's were excellent, really enjoyed. We ate at the buffet only 2 nights, the last night was the Oriental. Food tasted good, however I spent my last 2 days very sick in the room. I suspect it was the Sushi, not definate. My family did not eat sushi, only me and I was very ill, bed ridden for 2 days (took me 6 days to get over this mexican bug)
There is a MEGA store across the street, dolphin park, and a few restaurants. San Jose is approx 30 min walk, or 5 min cab.
Not a whole lot of souvenir shopping available unless you go into Cabo, however Friday nights at the Resort is Mexican Night. The local venders come in to resort and set up few tables. Pretty reasonable. Also few venders on beach. Airport as well (however most expensive option here)
We would recommend for families or quite vacations as it is pretty low key and gets pretty boring by the end of the week unless you get out and do a few excursions.
Mobility can be a concern too, if you have a wheel chair or disability as there are a few stairs throughout the resort, however we did see a few people and they were getting around with no problem.

Riu Vallarta: Fantastic holiday resort!
We just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at the Riu Vallarta. We had perfect weather and the resort staff and facilities were wonderful!
We found the check in went VERY fast - only a couple minutes and we were off to our room to freshen up before dinner. The front desk staff we welcoming and helpful.
We loved the food - we were able to eat several times at each of the a le carte restaurants and really loved each one! They are each very different but
delicious! Our Favorite was Sir George but th[... read more]e other two were great too. The Buffet had a good variety and offered a different feature every night.
The staff is awesome - guys serving drinks at the beach would run and get whatever we asked for - and I mean 'run'! They were so willing to serve us! The towel staff and pool staff as well were fun, happy and just added to the great time we had!
Our room was great - we faced the ocean so watched the sunset from our balcony every night.
All in all ... We want to go back tomorrow!

Royal Solaris: Great Value
This was our first all inclusive as a family and the resort is absolutely perfect for kids. In many ways the Royal Solaris was better than other 5 star resorts we've stayed at in Mexico. For the price we paid, we thought the service, food and entertainment were top-notch. The rooms are a bit outdated but you won't spend much time in your room with all of the great things to do as a family.

This is your typical midsize Carribean resort. We had a lot of fun. Very friendly staff, clean rooms. Many activities: beach, snorkling, game room, night shows. Nothing luxury but adequate. The restaurants were average.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: All round good resort!
Pulling up to this hotel I was in awe. It was so big, the scenery as well as the hotel grounds were kept tidy, there looked like there was so much to do, and the hotel staff were very pleasant and eager to assist you. The pool was fairly large and always clean. A major downside was that throughout the first few days there was no music being played and had to be asked many times by many different people. The night shows were very well organized and a ball to watch. The food was very good. Traveli[... read more]ng with an allergy you must be very cautious and I had no problems. Riu Santa Fe: Party Resort!
Everything here is Great as long as you don't mind a lot of people having a good time. The food is the only reason I knocked one star off. Its not even that its not good tasting but often barley warm. Especially at the a la cartes I expect piping hot food. So its best to watch for them putting out fresh food and eat that or Made to order omletts for breakfast. Tacos for lunch made to order. Cut for you roasts for dinner and made to order stirfry Are the best options for fresh food. There are lot[... read more]s of things to do in the area and it is relatively safe. You can swim at the beach as long as the flags are a safe colour and are a reasonable swimmer. There is a strong rip current that could pose a problem to weak swimmers
even when the flags say its safe.

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Lovely resort
The service, food and entertainment were excellent. The rooms were'nt as good as they could have been. Such inconveniences as leaking sinks and showers that flooded the bathroom. 2door jeeps are very difficult for seniors to get in and out of.
EarlyJanuary 2016- booked with TripCentral (Thank you Eliana for your great service and advice) on Sunwing ... Nexus tours staff on site were very friendly and helpful (Special thanks to Saul & Rafael).
Transport a little slow to get organised at the Airport (probably due to late arrival time) and it does take 1 hour to get from Cancun Airport to the Barcelo Maya property.
Hotel Check-in process was seamless, the room was very nice and well-appointed although there are not a lot of rooms with a[... read more] full beach view across the four properties on this resort: Beach, Maya, Tropical and Palace. There are great Junior Suites with private balconies, pools and jacuzzi's which face the beach, quite nice and a little overpriced - but may be worth it depending on your preferences.
The resort looks big at first but very easy to walk across this properties' pools, restaurants, buffets and beaches, through the large Maya Mall and shopping area (commercial captive market - not cheap but nice...).
Free wi-fi between 10 and 12 in the MayaMall only - - or pay per use is 12$ USD daily - this could use a little re-think.... While it's an investment for the resort, it's also a nice-to-have for guests (even though we are on vacation).
Great folks we met this week who are deserving of a mention:
*Lara & Moises at the Front desk - true professionals and very patient!
*Javier at the bell stand - knowledgeable and friendly, lots of advice too!
*The Captains across all bufets and restaurants are very 'pro and know their business, but we especially wanted to thank Luis - a very professional, respectful and friendly gentleman who always had time for a chat and share info with us :-)
* At the Maya buffet - they're all pretty nice and all very good - but Jobhani and Lorenzo P. were exceptional and stood out in our minds - thank you!
A la carte restaurants were all pretty good - this is the 7th Barcelo we've enjoyed over the years (this time without the kids!) and the gourmet restaurant booking process is as expected - book early with guest services to get your preferred seating.
Our best experience this time around: Tokyo - the teppanyaki was spectacular and offered best tasting food in the house!
Neat stuff like double-decker bus shuttle across the resort, a Dolphin park ($ but you can watch from outside the fence and take great pics'), an extensive water park and surf ride ($), beachside water sports equipment in great condition and easy to book, helpful staff too...
Exceptional customer service moment: Our in-room coffee maker didn't work - it was replaced within 4 hours AND: they called our room to make sure we were satisfied and it was in working order, the next day... well done!
Entertainment was as expected - the artists clearly train hard and give their best every night - might want to switch it up a little on some of the themes and maybe bring in a local rock band in addition to the excellent Mexican musicians?... the one small irritant we see in pretty much every resort has this MC format - it is pretty standard across resorts but really, you don't need this much MC'ing... it's not a TV show (!)
Our one bad experience: La Fuente Spanish restaurant - usually a good meal but this time, the service was disorganized and frankly, the service and attention levels were terrible - maybe having a bad nght? ...slow to order, slow to clean up, absolutely no follow up... seriously defficient compared to La Fuente @ Barceló Punta Cana...
Bar staff at pool level - aross the resort - can be a little stand-offish until you make eye contact and actually speak with them - difficult to get served if you're not used to ponying up to a bar and requesting a drink (so some folks can be put off by this experience) - perhaps benchmark your other resorts in other countries (Cuba, Dominican Rep., Spain...) to see how exceptional customer service isn't about the bar staff, but about the customer... pay attention to who's there first, especially younger guests :-)
Interesting anecdote: It looked like Co-President Mr. P. Barcelo was walking the resort - glad to see the Owners still takes personal interest in their properties and service levels. Your staff does a great job overall in this immense property - you should be very proud of them and the efforts we see on a daily basis. Thank you! we'll be back :-)

Catalonia Yucatan: Great Resort. Would not book with airtransat again
Beautiful beach, well kept rooms, food was delicious with many options. Very far from the Cancun airport - did not receive an accurate account of travel time.... Front desk staff was wonderful. Restaurant staff were excellent. Activities team was lacking and we found some of the bartenders to be a bit rude. In general, noone went out of their way to make everything special. Excellent hotel, just not commensurate with what we paid.

The hotel was not at all what we expected. The pics didn't match what the place was really like. It is a very small resort with a small lobby and very low ceilings. only one eating area with very few options if you are a vegetarian. Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Loved this elegant resort!!!
This resort is very sleek, modern, well kept great food, top notch drinks and the room was cleaned at least 2x per day .
The entertainment was fantastic as well.
The only thing to be aware of is there is a water park for kids on one side of the resort so it does attract families .
I was totally ok with that but some people on s honeymoon might want to be aware of that .
