I spent 1 week at barcelo with my husband and 2 teen/tween daughters. We've been to a dozen all inclusive and this was by far the largest complex we've ever stayed at. The complex was beautiful, very clean with gorgeous beach and pools. We found our superior room to be extremely tiny and dated. Smaller than most resorts. The food was fine, not the best but it was plentiful and available everywhere. My kids loved the food. The activities and onsite shopping was fun. No need to leave the resort, t[... read more]hey had everything. I found the staff a little unfriendly, but I may have been spoiled at past resorts with extra pleasant staff. Overall it was a nice resort, just a little overwhelming big. They do accept large groups, so at times certain bars, restaurants or pools can become crowded, but there was always space to move to less busy areas.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Food poisoning
Whole family got food poisoning from the buffet. Will never go back to this resort. The only enjoyable experience was the daisyclub for the kids. The teachers were attentive and caring. Carla is amazing.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Beautiful resort; great time!
This was our 4th time at this resort and once again, we had a fabulous time.
There are now 3 dedicated routes for transportation, one for each resort, (green, blue and purple) where golf cart drivers will pick you up while walking on the path. My only recommendation for this is that during breakfast and dinner there should be more carts available which would mean shorter wait times. Also, a bench at the side lobby on Del Mar would be very helpful while waiting for a cart to arrive.
The grou[... read more]nds are beautiful and well maintained as are the buildings and rooms. Everything is very clean and the staff are very pleasant and helpful.
The pools are incredible; also very clean and well maintained. Lots of comfortable loungers are available around the pools and at the beach.
The food in the buffet was excellent with a large selection. The restaurants we dined in were also excellent except for the Smoke House (didn't care too much for that). The food and service in the Mediterranean and Italian was excellent.
The entertainment in the theatre this time was great. We noticed an improvement in the productions. We especially enjoyed the Mexican show; it was beautiful.
The entertainment team does a great job in providing lots of things to do. However, we found the music at the "party pool" to be very loud every day, especially when they had the "Pool Party" on Tuesday. We had to leave that area because of the extreme noise. Even people in building 19 (near the front of the resort) complained about the intense noise.A not so positive change in the resort is that the previous "quiet area" has been changed to "members only" area. This is unfortunate because, as previously mentioned, the music in the pool area can be pretty loud, so this was a nice area to go...not anymore.
It would be great if dancing after 8 was offered. "Dance lessons" is posted almost nightly but many times we were disappointed because staff didn't show up. These lessons were mostly Salsa, Merenge, etc. No need for constant lessons, just put on the music (any music) and encourage people to dance.
We especially enjoyed the daily Zumba class at 3 pm with Jesus. He was great.
The beach is gorgeous; long and wide with white powder sand and lots of loungers under the palapas.
All in all, the vacation was great and would definately recommend this resort. We plan to be back next year.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Paradise
The Grand Sirenis is a beautiful resort. It is a very large resort with lots of pools and plenty of beach. Lots of loungers in the sun and in the shade to accommodate everyone. The restaurants were amazing with a wide variety of foods for different palates. The lobby bar made the best drinks and had the best bartenders and servers. There was a wide variety of activities including tennis, pickleball, soccer, biking, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. There was lots of wildlife on the property, to[... read more]o: spider monkeys, koatis, raccoons, etc. and even domestic cats. A free dolphin show completed our enjoyable experience.
Housekeeping kept our room impeccably clean.

The bar staff were excellent and very friendly and attentive. We never had to wait long for any service. The golf is a must and the Mayan massage was the best!!

Grand Palladium Colonial: Fabulous Time at the Grand Palladium Colonial
We just got back from 7 days at the Grand Palladium and had a wonderful time. Keep in mind that this 5 star review is for what I would expect of a hotel in Mexico - it is not a 5 star Vegas Hotel but is very enjoyable. Loved the grounds, which were beautiful and immaculate, and the shows in the evening were really well done. Having the wrist bands - that also worked as your door key - great idea. You could walk around key free. We had no trouble getting loungers or finding shade - on[... read more]e of the things I was worried about - lots of tiki huts and palm trees everywhere.
If you have chosen to spend a week here - a couple of things that might help make your trip as good as ours:
1. If you really care about updated rooms - consider staying at White Sands or one of the newer hotels - our room was still fine but showed some ware.
2. I recommend bringing a floaty of some kind - the Colonial pool is 5 feet deep - that doesn't sound deep but I would have had to tread water the entire time I was in the pool (as many people did) and that just isn't relaxing. Lots of people love the depth of the water - for swimming and jumping in but it isn't for everyone. Also, brink something to float your drinks on from the pool bar back to your chair. Really hard to hold drinks up and swim. :)
3. Bring your insulated cups - it is hot and drinks get warm really quickly. Also the bartenders will make your drink in your cup for you. Yum.

Ocean Maya Royale: Expectations Exceeded!!!
Our vacation at Ocean Maya Royale couldn't have been anymore perfect. All the reviews we read prior to going were spot on. The front desk was very welcoming when we arrived and even called to check on us in the middle of our stay to make sure everything was okay. The food, service and music were excellent and the room far exceeded our expectations with the marble floors, clean linens, stylish bathroom and private balcony. The 2 pools were perfect with a choice of how you wanted to spend your day[... read more] One with some fun activities and the other a little more quiet. Having the ocean always in view and close proximity gave you options to spend more time on the beach. There seemed to be lots of seaweed but was always being cleared so it never interfered with your time spend on the beach and in the water. Always enough loungers, clean towels and bar service on the beach. Atmosphere of the resort was calm and relaxing. The grounds were spotless. Everything was so clean. The staff were amazing.
I honestly can't say enough. We loved that it catered to people 18+. This resort comes highly recommended.
The grounds were lovely but the resort was tired and the food and drinks were lacking. The rooms needed a major overhaul. All was bearable because of the gorgeous beach. I don’t think I would make a return visit. Staff for the most part were lovely but major communication barriers that I’ve never experienced at other resorts.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Descent Resort with 4 Sections
Rooms were spacious and clean. Mini fridge was stocked with 2 beers a day per room!! If you wanted more you had to pay for it. All inclusive?? Grounds were very well kept and clean. Restaurants were of descent quality and lots of options to choose from. Liquor was descent but bartenders needed a lesson on making shooters ?. Staff was generally friendly but a lot of staff seemed disgruntled. Beach was not bad but chairs were very limited. Pool lounge chairs need to be replaced. Daisy for families with small children, with a large water park and slides.
El Beso for adults only.
Eden was closest to the beach and was for families.
Privileged section.
There was also a little train that went from lobby to beach and back all day. That was nice.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Rooms and beach not great!
10 days in Mexico. No sleep for first 3 nights, European spring break so Spanish students partying, fighting & slamming doors all night. Changed to a different building, 2nd room was mouldy smelling, likely due to leak from upstairs shower when used, and my husband has asthma. Air conditioner quit 2 nights in a row and he couldn't breathe, so moved to a 3rd room for the last few nights.First and 3rd rooms had only a few news channels in English. Mouldy room had upgraded cable tv, including Disne[... read more]y, so more English-speaking channels. Pool was kept clean and tested regularly, room stocked with water, pop, beer, daily. Not enough chairs at pool, always crowded as beach wasn't great. An hour & a half sales pitch for time-share lasted 4 hours, then it rained all afternoon, so one whole day was lost. Part of sales pitch was a "complimentary" breakfast at the beach, which was actually the same restaurant everyone used, so definitely not "complimentary". We had breakfast and lunch there for the rest of the trip, and supper at the main buffet, which was not air-conditioned. My friend lost her phone during the last day or two, staff were not very helpful. It was turned off, so she couldn't track it. Did 1 excursion to Mayan ruins at Tulum, rented a van & guide for the 6 of us so we could see the ruins in the morning when cooler. He didn't listen to us, and we were there at 12 noon anyway, instead of early morning. Two of us use canes, and weren't warned about how much walking it involved, or we would not have gone. Definitely not the best holiday we've ever taken. Memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: We'll be back!
We were there specifically for a Dr Joe Dispenza Conference for the first week and relaxation for the second week. We loved it, very comfortable hotel, food is excellent, a la carte restaurants tasty and good variety. Lots of shops if you like to bring back souvenirs, we love the sports bar where you can get food 24hrs in the mall on site. Fun beach has rocks but we made it work, not a concern. Pool is very large. Lots of lounge chairs at beach and pool. Shows at night were a higher level of wha[... read more]t we are use to, they were fantastic. It is really worth to go to the adjacent hotel Barcelo Beach, Caribe, Palace and Riviera to see the difference. Beautiful view of the water and resort from the upper lobby at the Palace. Hard ice cream at the "Barcelo Beach" buffet. Extremelly friendly staff who aim to please and satisfy the clients.
First night the AC was loud and they came and fixed it the next day. The shower valve was defective and would take a while to stay in place, causing the release of the spray to be inconsistent; it needed patience and innovation on our part. Hopefully they will get it fix, it needs to be replace.
We love this resort and we'll be back soon.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Good value
View from a 75 year old. Check in is slow. Hotel package offer is time share offer in disguise. Easy to say no. We stayed 2 weeks Feb-March. Junior Garden suite near kids pool. Rooms are spacious and very well equipped with soap, shampoo, shave kit, toothbrush kit etc etc. King bed was firm and comfortable. Lots of storage and a safe. Decent coffee maker. Bar had 4 soft drinks, 2 light beers and 4 bottles of water. Restocked daily. Separate bath (top rusting from salt) and good shower with lots [... read more]of hot water. Decor was dated ie orange tiles, mirror could use resilver. Nice patio furniture. Lounge chair used as a desk chair was a bit irritating. Free WiFi with good connectivity. Cleaning staff excellent. I found restaurants above average. Never had a tender steak in Mexico before. Good buffet with lots off variety. An oddity, need to ask for salt and pepper at all restaurants. A plus, food not allowed outside restaurants. Staff varied from excellent to indifferent. Typical entertainment, with not enough seating for all to view. I enjoyed some of the shows. Great beach. Seaweed constantly removed by tractor. Pools clean and a boisterous party pool for the younger set. Good kiddies pool. Usual issues with towels claiming spots on beach and pools. Go before 8. Expect to see iguana, gecko, feral cats, agouti, coati, racoons and even alligators in a contained wild area. Pelicans and frigate birds abound and you may see an oriole. Birding fair at best. Grounds are well maintained. 1 hr walk to Puerto Morales, or take a free 25 minute bike tour to town.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: Good food, great service, and an overall great vacation!
We are a middle aged couple and visited the Iberostar Paradiso Lindo in February and we really enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful resort, with great food, and great staff. Overall, we had a wonderful time. We booked this knowing it was a family resort, and I will say there are a lot of children. For the most part, they didn't bother us. Grand Palladium Riviera Resort And Spa: Absolutely amazing resort!!
Considering I had run out of options for my last minute vacation, and didn’t know much about Grand Palladium, I was extremely happy when I arrived. This could be my new favourite resort, and area to travel too. The grounds, staff, food, and location are top notch! I watched humpback whales right from the beach, and enjoyed every meal. The beach was beautiful, with powdery white sand, and the ocean was a gorgeous azure colour, with the backdrop of mountains, that I didn’t expect. I have to add th[... read more]at the staff, especially the Concerirge made my stay, as comfortable as I could have asked for, especially being solo. With some health issues, They went above and beyond, to make sure I had everything I needed. Julian in particular was always there, for anything I needed, and deserves a huge special thank you ? I had one major issue on the second last day, which was quite upsetting, but the Concerirge handled it immediately, All and all, I would recommend this resort to everyone, and anyone, and I’m planning on coming back again, in the future!
