this was our 3rd time in cozumel and 10th time in the mayan area
we arrived at night and so missed on the typical greeting you would get in the morning.
check in was quick and efficient. we had to come back in the morning for a 2nd room key?
we were brought to our room and there was no explanation of the amenities ie where the safe was, all the lighting
the room itself was on the 6th floor with an amazing view of the ocean. I had emailed and requested an upper floor room. the room was modern i[... read more]n black and white, i would prefer more Carribean colors. It doesn't have a typical bathroom, there is a room for the toilet, a separate glass enclosed shower, ours didn't leak, and a sink. the bed was new nice and large, the tv is a 40+ smart led tv, i wish i had brought my hd cable to hook up my computer there isn't a lot in english programming. the best feature besides the view of the ocean is the free wifi available in the room with excellent connectivity. there is a free safe and a daily restocked bar fridge with beer and pop. there is no coffee maker as i saw advertised on there website.there is a coffee bar in the lobby. the sunsets were something to see (see pics attached). the cons were i found the air con loud and the street in front of the room had a lot of traffic in the morning affecting the sleep quality
The weather all week was fantastic and the ocean calm
the beach is across the street what i like to call a "sandbox beach" it is 40 yards by 20 yards and man made. we never had an issue getting a chair because they figure out the chair war problem by giving each chair a beach umbrella so you always had shade.
it would be nice if the umbrella was more adjustable for when the sun moved.
there are 3 places to get food on the beach. the seafood hut (i don't eat seafood but I heard people say the food was excellent) a hamburger, fries hut excellent and the main buffet. the food was so so however the biggest issue was the common flies there were too many going after the bread, fruit and desserts, only the bread was covered.
all of the service and servers at the resort were excellent from the beach, pool, buffet and ala cartes.
the reason we come to cozumel is for the snorkelling. the snorkelling in front of the beach was great. we saw many different types of fish and baracudas. the only issues i had was the access into the water is difficult going down stairs into and out of the water, i didn't have issues but i can see other people have issues. there is a little bay but has corral instead of sand.
the other issue is the buoys that limit where you should snorkel is not defined, it should continue all the way to the dock such that boats coming in should only use one side. i had a boat come into the bay and basically circled me almost as a joke. i told the lifeguard about this and explained that if there would have been children or inexperienced snorkellers this could be a major accident in the making.
we ate at 2 of the ala cartes the italian and mexican. the food was good. i ordered the beef tenderloin and found the portion way too big. there were no reservations required which was nice we never had to wait.
there was an excellent mayan show one night at he beach buffet.
except for the mayan show there was no nightlife.
a 3 piece band with a singer to allow dancing each night would be an inexpensive nice touch. this resort mostly caters to divers so i guess they don't require a lot of nightlife. fyi they don't offer an intro to diving at the resort??? i found the bartenders at the lobby bar not as friendly as some of the servers.
The biggest issue i had was the stairs. it would be nice if they didn't exist, ramps instead but they should be easier to see ie yellow paint at the end of each step. the marble blends to easily. they have the curbs painted this way in front of the resort. the stairs at the beach almost got me one day there white and harder to id if you're not paying attention ie looking at the beach.
this resort was in close proximity to CHAKANAAB park and my wife and i walked both ways one day. the admission was $20 but i had bought a snuba excursion from the resort the day before so our admission was $13 each. it has great snorkelling a great beach and a number of activities. it would be nice if they had deal with the resort
i probably would not return to this resort, we like going to different places. i can see it appealing to other people.

Las Brisas: Perfect place for relaxation
We spent 7 days at Las Brisas in a private pool suite that overlooked Acapulco Bay. It was so pretty at night when you could see all the lights across the water. It was so private being on the side of the hill as well. Having done beach vacations before, we decided that a pool would be ok. Well it was more than ok, it was so nice to wander the streets of Acapulco (felt very safe, even took public transit) then come back to our casita and take a dip in the pool. It can be kind of chilly at night [... read more]but after a day in the sun it is oh so refreshing. Although it is not all-inclusive, you are near a Wal-Mart and another grocery store and it really ends up being less expensive. We ate at the beach club restaurant which also had the best views and delicious food! Weather is guaranteed everyday to be sunny! Could not have asked for a better vacation, definitely need to go back!

Allegro Playacar: Perfect Location
Great Location, Perfect Beach, good food, Manager was not accomodating at all. Travelling with another relative, put them three buildings away from us, ridiculous!! and I had highly recommended this resort as I had been twice before. will NOT go back now. This trip ruined it for me. People on my bus got the room next to me, why not my relative? Seriously ridiculous, will not be going back. Skipped cleaning my room 2 days, never replenished my mini fridge.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Wonderful! Will be going back
What a great spot! Lots for the entire family to do, great food, comfortable rooms, clean and well kept rooms and top notch service. We had everything we needed in one great resort. Lots of dining options and areas for drinks so you did not feel the crowd of people. Well spread out and managed.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Not bad, but I would not go back
The pools were awesome for both adults and the kids. The beach was rocky and not cleaned at all. Beach bar was dirt.
Other than that the food was good. Nice area.
Don't go for "free shopping ". Things are 100 times more than the regular price. They don't really show anything at the silver factory.
Also, don't get caught up and waste time with the time share people or real estate agents, unless you're interested

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Second visit to Grand Bahia
Although this hotel was big it didn't take long to find our way around. There was a variety of food and restaurants available. The one downfall would be the beach and the sea weed washed ashore. There was a shortage of pool chairs and even though there were signs posted that you couldn't reserve them there was no one there to enforce this. The staff were friendly and the rooms cleaned and well maintained.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Beautiful resort and something for everyone!
The resort is very well kept. Extremely beautiful grounds. The pools are clean and never seem too busy! the staff were so friendly and very helpful. The only issue we had was that we couldn't really get into any of the A la Carte dinner restaurants as they were all booked up. Late time slots (past 9:30pm) were available.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to family and friends.

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Barcelo consist once again!
We have found that staying at any Barceló resort, we have never been disappointed. This resort is located away from all other resorts(opposite side of the bay area in P.V.). Rooms(huge), food, pools great. Minimal beach area but ok. Just be mindful of the mosquitos. We encountered them which we determined on the balcony. Can't see these guys but they can bite. USE BUG SPRAY!!!!. The buffet was fine....loved the crepes @ breakfast!. The specialty restaurants (Spanish and Italian) were exceptiona[... read more]l! We did not enjoy the Steak/Seafood due to bad service and food was not the best. We went once and didn't want to take a chance on a second time so stuck with the other 2 which we soooo good!!! We were there for 11 days and didn't have any issues with chairs (although there are those that must save with towels @ 4 am!!!) until near the end of our vacation when resort was 100 % occupied. Still had chairs but had to search. The worst thing still is people save chairs then you never see anyone use them in the "prime locations" So annoying!!! The staff was great in all areas and aspects. We did the premium upgrade which was worth it. A must do is the Rhythms of the Nights excursion. Worth every penny!!!

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Had a fantastic time....
The hotel/resort was beautiful, clean, well maintained and the food was fantastic.. However the resort is huge and there is a possibility that you can get stuck in buildings 11 or 12 which is very far from everything and you might not get a balcony or a view.... Tons of wildlife and a must see without having to go to the Excharet park but that is another wonderful experience in itself!!! Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Fabulous Vacation!
We recently spent a week at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba. We were a group that consisted of pre-teens, 20-somethings and 40-somethings. An incredible time was had by all. Service and food were amazing. The only downside to anything we had were the lack or dinner reservation availble yet the restaurants appeared to be half empty all the time. We only were able to get 2 of our 4 availble a al cartes. The ones we had (International & Italian) were delicious but the other 9 in our party only manage[... read more]d to get one booking. That was disappointing because we had heard really good things about some of the other restaurants however never got a chance to sample them. The buffett was very good and always fresh. my daughter loves mango and this is not an item we saw on the buffett so she asked; next thing a gentleman shows up with a plate of mango cut up for her. She was delighted! The bartenders did the best they could however there was only ever one bartender working and i think they would have certainly benefitted from having at least two serving in the swim up bars! The only other problem we had was our mini bar wasn't restocked with snacks and drinks consistently, I had to request water (after that I had lots of water but nothing else) and for some reson our faceclothes didnt get replenished with the towels. The beach not great due to a ton of seaweed; employees worked hard and did a fairly good job at collecting and bagging it but was alot of work; you can only fight mother nature so long! we spent a couple hours in the ocean but then made our way back to the pool and waterpark (which the kids loved). Our room overlooked the water park and was located right next to the lobby (building 22) and was a great location. Even though the resort is larger than i prefer I would most definitely recommend this resort especially with children.
Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Marvellous time,Marvellous place, just marvellous
I like to thanks all the staff at Riu Place, my husband and I felt, very special , it was a perfect time, the food is excellent , the view is breath taking, the drink juste the way I like it.the beach quite stunning, and at the pool lots to do, and all of the staff just fantastic thank you every one at Riu Palace

Catalonia Yucatan: 3.5 - 4 star resort
The Catalonia Yucatan Resort itself is a beautiful resort, but there are a lot of things that can be done to make your stay a good one to remember! Overall, this resort is not so huge so access to all the pools, bars and the beach is very easy. There are a number of pools both for the ones that want to relax or the ones that want to enjoy water activities with the resort animation team during the day. The beach area is sandy but more rocky and the ocean is mainly rocky so it's not very convenien[... read more]t to swim in the ocean. The food was very good overall at the buffet, as well as the steak house and the tapas a la carte. The standard rooms are very average and nothing luxurious (rusty bathroom doors) and is just good enough for all the necessities one needs for their stay. Although there is a disco running at nights, the nightlife is more relaxed at the resort.
The main disappointing part for our stay was that some of the staff at the resort were rude and that was evident right off the bat on our arrival. Upon our arrival, our name was not in the system so the gentleman at the desk told us to wait while they tried to find our name. He then left shortly as his shift was done, and a young unprofessional girl (Carolina) was in charge to deal with the situation. Carolina constantly spoke in Spanish while trying to solve the problem with our Air Transat agent (who was very helpful), and when we asked her to explain the situation in English, her response was "We are in Mexico Sir"! Anyways, it took us 2 hours at the front desk to finally get a room with its balcony under renovation, which we then had to move again to another room the next day as the hotel was overbooked upon our arrival. At another incident, the staff would simply not serve us ice cream on a patio on a hot day for not having a shirt on with absolutely no one around. Are you serious??? I can't enjoy an ice cream by the beach, on a hot day, with nobody around, for 10 minutes, because I'm not wearing a t-shirt??? Give me a break, that's why I'm there in the first place!!! Overall, the resort is beautiful, food is very nice, rooms are average, beach is sandy/rocky, pools are nice to hang out by, but the staff should be better trained to deal with tourists in a much better way. Comparing this trip to my previous destinations in Punta Cana, Varadero, and other resorts in Cancun, there are definitely other options to spend your money on!

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great Hotel BUT Read my Review
Excellent Hotel, Excellent food but there is two things that I did not like. One is to wait from 10AM to 3pm to get my room. The other thing is that I was pushed to attend a 3 hours meeting to market Royalton Hotels, which I said before I attend it , that I am not interested if it is for Time sharing and guess what it was for time sharing but in a different way. DO NOT ATTEND THESE MEETING. IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME GUYS.

Allegro Cozumel: Nice property but the food could be better
The hotel and grounds are clean and well kept. The room had some issues although not worth mentioning. The beach was great although it was really annoying to find most of the lounges reserved with towels before 7am. Quite often nobody showed up to use them until late morning if at all. This is not the fault of the resort, but of our fellow travelers.
The pools were nice and kept very clean.
The big disappointment was the food. We are not picky eaters and usually find something that suits us. At [... read more]breakfast I saw someone ask for bacon and it was delivered to their table, but it wasn't offered at the buffet, only hot dogs. Breakfast usually looked like the night before's left overs and usually cold.
The Asian and Mexican a la carte's were very good.
The staff work hard and try to look after everyone's needs but there aren't enough of them.
