Serenade All Suites Adults Only Resort: Nice resort
This was a nice resort. A few things need to be improved on. The pools need hand rails, lighting in stairwells. There are no signs to say what the entertainment or activities are. The lobby bar had the same music every night, in-between a singer performing. I found the water aerobics okay, until you have to massage the backs of eachother, then form a line outside of the pool for " dance". Zumba was short, maybe 4 songs and below average. There was a break in-between songs, not smooth. The food[... read more] was usually Luke warm in the buffets, but always could find something to eat. The main complaint would be the language barrier. If you are working in these resorts, basic knowledge of the English language should be required. I am not blaming the employees, I felt sorry for them. Examples would be a guest trying to get orange juice at breakfast and the poor server just didn't understand and gave water 2x. I ordered pork ribs and pointed on the menu and got a beef rib. Sometimes you wouldn't get appetizer, I think because they didn't understand. We also found the service very slow most times, especially in lobby bar. Maybe they need more employees. Pools were great, beach was lovely, although you had to be down by 7 to "save" a chair. Only got one 1x. There didn't seem to be an issue getting a lounger around pools. One pool quiet, closest to main lobby and less wind on the very windy days. Middle pool a little more active, then pool closest to the beach is where the music was louder and activities taking place. We had some nice servers, Alba, Norvell and Jon joa? ( sorry, trying to remember name)

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Great resort!
So many nice things about this resort including no towel cards. You can use as many as you need and then dispose of them in the bins needed. There was never a shortage of clean, dry towels to use. Also, no reservations needed for the A La Carte restaurants. The staff are so very friendly and helpful to everything you need. This resort isn't accessible to everything, if you have physical limitations. Two restaurants are on second level. The resort is not huge so easy to get around. The main [... read more]pools were cold, not sure the reason for that but there was one smaller Adults only pool that was a bit warmer.

Secrets Tides Punta Cana: Absolutely incredible!!
We had the most amazing time at this resort! The property was absolutely stunning! The pools and the beach were beautiful. The resort isn’t massive which we loved! It has a chill vibe. The restaurants we tried were all great … the food was delicious + the service efficient!
The BEST part of the entire trip was the staff! They were all absolutely fantastic… from the concierge desk to the service staff and the entertainment crew literally made our trip SO MUCH FUN!

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Excellent break from winter in Canada
Background: We were four friends, in our late 50s, visiting the resort to get out of the Canadian winter. We chose a direct flight from Ottawa and 10 days. February 11 to 21, 2024. Both couples are well traveled and have visited many all inclusive resorts over the last thirty years.
Beach and pools: We spent all the time at the beach. Some sand washed away and the beach is narrow, but the quality is excellent. It is very busy and to get the best chairs requires getting up at sunrise and placin[... read more]g towels. Space opens up after lunch.
Services: All excellent and we unfortunately required medical attention for one person. The doctor was excellent and she was sent to a local hospital for review. Medication and treatment administered and she returned in the afternoon. A good lesson for those who wonder if medical insurance is worth it. Cost would have come to $3000USD. The insurance settled while they were in the hospital.
Tons of excursions. We favour renting a vehicle and doing our own thing. Not advised for inexperienced travellers as there is some unrest in the neighbouring Haiti.
Food: We booked five restaurants. Thai is fusion but highly recommended. The best is the Brazilian style meat on skewers. Simply excellent. All the restaurants are good. I do recommend to either skip desert or go with fresh fruit. I'm not fond of any of the deserts served. Having said that though, North American pallet loved the baked pastries, jellos and chocolate deserts. There is always very good ice creams as well.
The buffet is very good. Choices are vast and there are also rotating and fixed stations for fresh cooked food. Some conduct of guests can be better.
Rooms: We had Junior Suits. Good enough and we had no issues. Our electronic door lock had a flat battery one afternoon, but maintenance smoked up on a bicycle and fixed it very quickly.
Value: Gone are the days of deals. But I would say it was reasonable for the value: $250/day all included.
Property: The property consists of six hotels under one umbrella. It is very large and we did a lot of walking. There are electric carts going up and down. We enjoyed the gardens. Many shops on the property as well.
Recommendation: It is very busy and maybe not for people wanting a boutique or small property where you get to know the staff and guests. However for a family with kids or a group it is recommended.

Occidental Caribe: Short and to the point
Older building ( not an issue for me )
Room is alright some stuff might be broken. Your toilet will not work .
The pool and beach are stunning. You will have people harassing you but that's everywhere.
The food was hit or miss and 1 of my friends got food poison 3 times within 8 days.
The service is awful, they do not care what so ever about their jobs.
The game room is a joke. Pool tables are on it's last legs.
This is my 14th trip and by far this resort comes in last place.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Excellent Vacation at Ocean Blue
This was a great resort!
Check-in: Simple, friendly and quick
Rooms: Clean, spacious, of course there’s a bit of a musty smell, it’s a crazy humid climate. We turned the dehumidifier on and it was fine. AC worked great. A bit of staining on bathroom floor from leaky shower but who cares. Building was quiet.
Food: Delicious! Great variety. Some buffet dishes weren’t super hot, we just dug to the bottom of the dish. Fabulous Indian food a couple of days, awesome pizza. Churros and donuts for [... read more]breakfast? Yes! Get in line at 7:15 am at the left hand buffet entrance to book the Steak and Japanese restaurants. For the rest, just be in line around 5:40 pm and you’ll get right in at 6. Food in all of them was great!! Arancini Balls in Italian and Chicken Flautas in Mexican are a must! Serve yourself soft serve ice cream at second pool or beach buffet. Yum! Or ice cream parlour for waffle cone treats. Mike’s coffee makes a fantastic frozen cappuccino and hot French Vanilla cappuccino. Chocolate martinis at the lobby bar are delicious! Plenty of drinks available everywhere. Just see Manuel and Joneiry at the first swim up bar for the best Mojitos and if you’re brave, ask Melfi for a Sammy Sosa!!
Grounds: Immaculate! I doubt any fallen leaf is down for more than a minute! People- pleeeeease don’t make a hard working gardener pick up your cigarette butts when there’s an ashtray 20 ft away!! Seriously! The resort has concrete, cobblestone paths and all the buildings are marble/ ceramic. We found this to be really hard on our feet and legs. Take the little carts that go around regularly!
Staff: Friendly and hardworking. They sometimes didn’t speak English well enough to understand what we were asking which ended up in extra nachos and bizarre shopping trips!! Remember they get paid a fraction of what we do for the hard work they’re doing. Tip well!
Beach: incredible!
Chair Situation: Get up early if you want chairs. On the beach, a few bucks can typically get you a chair from somewhere.
Vendors: Fairly pushy, just be ready to say no if you don’t want something. Photographers accompany people with parrots, iguanas offering to take pics of you and then you’re out $20!
Other: Watch out for the white shirt smiley ladies hovering at your building entrances. They just want to give you your “welcome package” or “a little bit of information”. It’s a very aggressive time share meeting that will take 2-3 hrs of your vacation.
Entertainment: The animation team does an amazing job during the day but we found the evenings a bit lacking. There were two shows in the theatre but they were so loud!!!! Often just bingo in the lobby. There is a digital screen in the lobby that has all of the info on it. We didn’t find it until halfway through. It is mostly correct.
Overall: We had a fantastic vacation here and would come back in a heartbeat!!

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Resort lovely, dinners a disaster
The resort itself was very nice. It was well maintained and clean. The room was very comfortable. There were lots of seats around the pool and beach. The only problem was dinner. Booking for dinner started a 9 AM and you could only book 2 days in advance. However, at 9 AM you were always told the only time available was 9 PM. The food itself was ok. We had expect better quality.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Good resort
Beautiful resort but limited restaurant choices- beach gorgeous- pools awesome but unfortunately young college kids came in on the Friday and ruined the peace and quiet til we left on Monday- they were also destructive and out of control so security should have been monitoring halls from midnight to morning- very sad and frustrating for an adult section!!!’

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Great time!
I write this review because we really relied on reviews to book our trip. We travelled with a toddler and another family. This resort was fabulous. It is a medium size resort which I enjoyed. It was not so large that it felt crowded, but it was not so small that you felt there was nothing to do. The beach is great and so are the pools.
The staff are great. We had an incident on our first day where our toddler fell into a swallow pond (my fault, not the resorts) and I was so scared of potentia[... read more]l illness and the on-site doctor walked me through it and the resort staff really comforted me in a time of high stress (I was crying lots, mom anxieties)
The facilities are beautiful, clean, well-maintained, they are constantly working on the grounds. We stayed in the privileged section. From the looks of it, there is not much benefit for being in that section (maybe nicer decor in the room), so if it is cheaper to not book privileged, I would recommend the regular option.
The place was clean. I heard horror stories about Hand, Foot, and Mouth at Domincan resorts, but luckily I was not concerned once I got here. I think because of the medium size nature there were many children but not too many. Everything seemed clean. We didn;t use the Kids Club, but it seemed really well-run. Our daughter was too young to attend.
FOOD: We are vegetarian, I found the food was good. It had enough choices and I never went a day without having many options to eat. My husband felt the vegetarian options could have been better. I only ate food that was cooked, boiled, or I could peel myself (because I was very worried about getting ill), and I had enough options every day to eat, even as a vegetarian. My husband and the other family we travelled with ate everything, including meat and no one got sick. So, it seems I might not have needed to be that cautious. When we returned my husband and I did have a couple days where our stomaches were feeling funny and a bit of loose stool (sorry, I know, tmi, but these are the things I was looking for in reviews travelling with a toddler). But it was nothing serious that prevented us from carrying on our day
Overall, I would recommend this place!

Serenade All Suites Adults Only Resort: Nice resort
We stayed from Feb 17th to the 24th.
The hotel was very well kept, the housekeeping was very good. It was designed really nicely with a walkway through the grounds that led to the beach. There were 3 pools, two which were really active and one which was quiet. It was nice to be able to choose between them.
The buffet was nice, the food was good. We found that the service at the pool was the best. There seemed to be no servers on the beach at all. The service at the buffet was hit and m[... read more]iss. Nothing really gave us the WOW factor with this vacation.
We went to a high pressure sales thing that was not a Time Share, but was a Time Share. We said no about 6 times before they were convinced that we were not interested. We wasted 2 hours of our vacation doing this. The only reason we went was because we thought it would help one of the people who worked there. As it turns out, that person was pretty standoffish to us after. I think that may have influenced our time spent at the Serenade.
All in all, it was an ok vacation, not worth the amount of money we spent. We only choose Punta Cana because Cuba is having supply issues. I much prefer Cuba to Punta Cana. The people are far more friendly and I always got an "Island feel".
I know that many people really enjoyed staying at the Serenade, it is a very nice resort. It just didn't hit the right notes for us.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Very Good could be better
Large beautiful rooms
Great beach. Staff was amazing. Some of the friendliest we have had in our 30 years of going to the DR
Only negative was the food Booking a restaurant had to be done in person. Since we were not Circle Members or Reserve Guests we had trouble getting spots and mostly ended up at the buffet. Buffet food was average at best

Enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff, clean rooms, beautiful beach, excellent food.
Would definitely return for another holiday and recommend this property to others.
A la carts were all very good. Only issue is the jetted tub/shower combination in the Deluxe,
King Room can be a little tricky to get in and out of for anyone with mobility issues.

Riu Republica: Great place with exceptions
I had a great time at Riu Republic. Rooms were great, lots of pools to choose from, nice beach. Loved the fact we could get multiple lounge chairs most of the day quite easily. Main buffet and the restaurants we tried were very good. Have to nite that 5 our group of 14 became very ill during the trip. Weather was also below expectations, periodic rain and cloudy except for 2 days. So while not everyone in my friends group would agree, I had an enjoyable time

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: February getaway
Travelled to this resort with my wife and daughter. First impression wasn’t a good one. Upon checking in the staff informed me that our room wasn’t ready…after a long travel day, being told to wait in the lobby that’s the last thing I wanted to hear. Basically had to remain seated in front of guests services to ensure they didn’t overlook me and secure my room. Finally after getting our room discovered the weird layout of the room we selected..bath tub in the middle of the room…no privacy for ch[... read more]arging..would be fine if it meant for a couple but with my daughter in tow, created some awkwardness. Overall resort was good, grounds well kept, services and staff helpful and friendly and the food was decent. Only a la cart we didn’t like was the Italian restaurant which was bland. We enjoyed Hunters Steak house, food was excellent and service was good. Found that we could enjoy the buffet and the wide variety offered..only complaint was during busier times services took a dip..no plates no cups..have to look after yourself essentially or wait for till you can finally track down staff to help. Lastly the nightly entertainment was beyond disappointing…only good night was the Beatles and Michael Jackson performance. Overall would give this resort a 4 star rating, the high price we paid didn’t reflect the type of experience I expected.
