Just got Back from an amazing week away. The hotel itself is very nice, the rooms need to be updated a bit. Staff were amazing for the entire week From the maids to the bartenders and servers, and can not forget the entertainers who put on performances everywhere in the resort. Weather was excellent and the beach is what you go on vacation for in Cuba.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Mixed Feelings
I stayed at Memories Flamenco Beach Resort the week of October 27, 2018. Sunwing was on time and we had a pleasant flight minus the hard landing. Upon arrival at the resort we were warmly received by Cuban dancers. The service desk acknowledged our presence but our room was not ready as we arrived prior to the 3 p.m. check in. For this reason, I highly suggest you walk with your swimwear in your carry-on which we did. We were able to head straight to the beach.
Beach - The reason you go [... read more]to Cuba. Memories sits on a long stretch of a white sand beach which is shared with 3 other resorts. There were enough palapas for everyone but the hotel did not appear to be full. Since it rained most nights, the water was not always as crystal clear as we've become used to in Cuba but was pleasant none-the-less.
Service - The staff were warm, friendly and eager to ensure that you enjoyed your stay whether you tipped them or not which was a pleasant change from other resorts we've been to in Cuba. We did tip but didn't feel the need too in order to get good service.
Room - Rooms were very clean and spacious. Hot water was never an issue and the fridge was stocked with water, pop and beer daily. We were blessed to be placed close to the beach even though we weren't oceanfront.
Property - The lay out of the hotel is quite nice. Everything is easy to access and in good condition. The grounds are well kept and the hotel appears to spray for mosquitos and other biting insects. However, I would still recommend that you walk with a bug spray.
Family - This is a family friendly resort and the staff appear to go out of their way to be kind to the children. However, in all my years of travel I have to say I witnessed some of the rudest, most unruly and disrespectful children of tourist (from various countries) that I have ever seen (i.e. throwing cups on the ground when a garbage bin is in front of them; running up on the stage during performances (parents - you would never allow this at a theatre in your country and it was utterly disgusting to witness it here); calling a tourist who speaks another language an idiot when they were trying to help the child retrieve an item that floated away at sea were just a few examples that stood out.
Food - Bland, buffet stations cold (no apparent warmers to keep food warm) so if you're not there when they put things out you should probably go to one of the hot stations. If you're a breakfast person bacon only appeared to be served 3 days of the week with sausage available most days, along with a variety of eggs, pancakes, bread, etc. Lunch - I'd recommend the snack bar, it has several options including pizza, sandwiches and fries. Dinner - I'd recommend that you head straight to the hot stations (pasta, fish, meats, fried rice, etc.)
Check-out - To be honest, the biggest grievance of the trip. Our Sunwing flight home left at 10:50p.m. with checkout at noon. When we booked the flight, we were told to check with the front desk at the hotel to try and keep the room longer which we did upon our arrival. We were directed to return the morning of our departure to try & make the necessary arrangements to extend our stay which we did. We were told we could keep the room for 2 extra hours at $11 CUC / hour. We took it because we wanted some time on the beach but found this unfortunate as most of our last day was spent sitting in the lobby bar. I can appreciate that the chamber maids have an end to their work day but I think this could have been better coordinated with Sunwing. Apparently, "VIP package and return guests" are allowed to keep their rooms for a later check out without extra charge so you will have to assess whether or not this actually makes more sense for your travel party. I personally didn't see it worth the while. On top of which, the hotel sprayed for mosquitoes just before we left which drove all of them up to the lobby area. So after going 7 days with a few bites, we were eaten alive in the last 2 hours.
Sunwing - Hard landing upon arrival. The Flight Attendants on the way down were fantastic. We did not find the Rep at the hotel in Cuba helpful at all. In fact we found him to be condescending until we put him in his place. The Reps on the tour bus to and from the hotel were fantastic. As were the Reps at the airport. Flights were on time for the most part (we had to de-ice before leaving Toronto).
Exchange - A rip off. $50 Cdn = $34 CUC

Grand Memories Santa Maria: The resort was clean and nice
The resort was great, service good , beach amazing best beach. at night the walkways were dark and you could not see, not good when there are holes everywhere. Also at about 6 pm every night they fogged the resort for masqitos, they really should warn the people so they could be in there room or the restaurant because the stuff is toxic and stinks. Rooms were ok ants on the counter but thats cuba etc. my really only complaint is the food, He at this resort was bad for the whole week i lived off [... read more]bread and eggs, missed lunch and dinner everyday,

Grand Memories Varadero: Quite adequate
Rooms a bit tired. Such friendly staff. Close to the beach.very safe. Food is not bad but ok for Cuba. Remember that you don’t go to Cuba for the food, but for the beaches, the people and Grand Memories has it all.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: One of the best Cuban Resorts I've stayed at.
What made this resort stand out for me are the following:
The grounds are beautiful and lush and well manicured. I have not seen this at the 5 other Cuban resorts that I have stayed at, in the same price point.
The butler service was wonderful for arranging our a la carte dinners. They also helped to replace a coffee pot. Arrange for a closet door to be put back on. Had a man come to open our safe when I made an error with the lock code, and in general made us feel very connected with th[... read more]e resort.
The entertainment/fitness crew came around and talked to us. They had some fun inclusive activities at the pool. They played great music that you could move toward or away from if you wanted quiet. The crew offered foot rubs for tips. These were wonderful and it gave us a chance to chat with them and learn more about Cuban culture.
The evening entertainment in the lobby of the Sanctuary section was superb. I loved the Cuban music. There was a classical jazz guitar player one night who had the room sitting on the edge of their seats listening. If it was raining they played inside and if the weather was clear they played outside. They also had a DJ who kept the party going after the live musicians, every night except Sunday.
The Memories dance team who put on the entertainment in the theater was very good. The Michael Jackson show (brought in for this show only) had very talented male dancers. That show was well worth the while.
The beach is rocky at the Sanctuary end. Apparently it has eroded away this summer. There is still plenty of beach. We walked 5 km easily every day. The sand is beautiful white. There is some sea weed but less than I saw in the Mayan Riviera in May.
There was plenty of food to choose from. The buffets offered a good selection and the Ala cartes were good too. We had Seafood, Mexican and Chinese.
The bartenders were very friendly and efficient with service. The maids who cleaned our room did a great job. There was a shortage of towels but we managed by hanging our towels to dry and they did finally get a shipment of clean towels at the resort.
There are places on the resort that could stand some fresh paint. Some of the public bathrooms are a bit smelly and there was often a shortage of toilet paper but over all not too bad. At least all the toilet seats were present and it seemed staff were available to clean on a regular basis. Our room was close to the pool area that we sat at, so we used our own bathroom regularly.
Over all I would return to this resort

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Not all that good yet
the grounds are nice, the rooms not so much, the beach is great, the food is the same day after day. The workers are the best, been there 5 times now it's got a long ways to go to improve. Each year it has gone down hill and food has never change.

Memories Jibacoa: Things have changed
Hotel not the same anymore. After travelling almost 10 hours to get there we find our toilet broken which took twelve hours to fix. The Diamond Club is not a necessary addition considering all the things they offered for free over the years is now available for $15 per day per person to get these things. Food was terrible in the buffet but the a la carte restaurants were good. The beach is a disaster both in and out of the water with rocks everywhere making is difficult to navigate. The pool is [... read more]a mess with many tiles missing leaving it open for cutting your feet. Staff great as always.

I stayed at this resort from October 22-29 and enjoyed every minute. The resort and the grounds are beautiful. The beach is one of the best I've ever seen. Room was clean and spacious. For Cuba, the food was excellent.
What really separates this hotel from others is the staff! Top notch in all areas! I'd highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning soon!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Had a great time!
We spent a wonderful week here at Sanctuary @ Grand Memories.
Beach:
The beach is gorgeous, it was a little washed up from Hurricane Micheal but still beautiful. We went when it was still low season so getting beach chairs was no issue for us, can't speak for high season. I wish there were some staff walking along the beach that can take orders for drinks, but it was not a big deal, we just walked over to the bar and got some ourselves.
Food:
Typical Cuban food. Nothing spectacular but[... read more] never left the resort hungry. Fresh omelettes at Sanctuary are delicious! We always went for the fresh meats and fish, which they usually garnish with some garlic and onion so ends up tasting good. Not many vegetable options.
Rooms:
We were in Building 61 - had great wifi ($) from the room. Rooms were clean, updated, and spacious. Good water pressure and never ran out of hot water.
Grounds:
Mature. Beautiful. Well Kept. It was nice having access to both the Sanctuary and Grand Memories lobby.
Overall, a great time!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Nice relaxing vacation
Flew with AC..and that itself was a great experience..on time and nice flight both ways. I was in Memories 3 years ago..znd that wasnt the best experience then..but this time its was way better..i really have nothing negative to say..the only thing..maybe the room are a bit dated..but everything was working fine. Beach is awsome as usual..food was great. Its was a good deal and i will be back.
