Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Had a great time!
We enjoyed our week at this hotel. Highlights were the on site ice cream parlour - BEST chocolate ice cream ever! The Brazilian restaurant was by far the best a la carte we visited. The selection of drinks included was tremendous and all the food was good. A lot of variety at the buffet and was always the right temperature. The staff at the resort was so hard working, never took a rest! They really wanted to ensure we were well take care of. Great lazy river and a lot of wildlife on the property[... read more]. The resort is also environmentally friendly which we were very impressed by. The resort is huge which we knew - lots of walking which was good considering how much we ate! One of the things we would change is beyond the control of the resort....smoking. Certainly not like Canada. Smokers could smoke pretty much anywhere (except theatre and in restaurants) It was awful to be sitting by the pool or in the lobby and smell that awful smell....The other thing worth mentioning is that we were travelling with a child with a nut allergy. The resort wasn't nut free but we certainly weren't limited at all. We were careful as we would be anywhere - Anytime we had a question about any food item, it was quickly addressed. Our daughter was completely safe, a total relief! We already miss the Grand Sirenis!

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Amazing Resort
This was our first all inclusive vacation and we were very confused on what resort to go to. We eventually picked Occidental had we are glad we did. No complaints at all. Food was great, just make sure you plan to be at dinner before 730 pm and you will have no problems eating at any of the fine dining places. All resturants were exceptional. Swim up bar and pool was fantastic, bartenders were entertaining and provided exceptional service. Rooms were large, clean and everything you need. Hotel Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort: Another great experience and Stay !
This was our third stay at El Cid, this time we booked a one bedroom suite which was amazing and lost of room for all four of us. As usual the food was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. We upgraded to Platinum which I don't think was worth it , this was our only negative.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Great resort
wonderful stay at truly a 5 star resort. The grounds & landscaping were amazing as well as all the original woodwork around the resort. Great pool and the professional staff were on hand throughout the day with activities if you were so inclined, or you could just kick back and enjoy the great weather. Great restaurants and there was enough variety at the buffets that you never tired of the food. Would definitely recommend this resort.

Dreams Huatulco: Fabulous Resort.
We had a wonderful time at Dreams Hautulco, one of the cleanest resorts we have visited, amazing staff, nothing was to much trouble, loved the no wrist bands, no towel cards, no reservations for A' la carte restaurants, just show up, and even although the resort was busy, we only had to wait once to get in, liked the Japanese, and the Italian the most, our least favourite, I'm sorry to say was the Mexican, maybe I just ordered the wrong dish.
The selection of alchohol was also amazing, they had [... read more]all the top brands, frozen drinks were made fresh in the blender, not from a machine, loved that. The one let down for me personally, was the sand, very rough, and hard on your bare feet, the water was very clean, and not a bit of seaweed anywhere, six pools to choose from, always managed to find a chair with some shade. Took a taxi into the little town of La Crucecita, lovely, very safe, mostly souvenir shops and restaurants, very pleasant, lovely people. Lastly, and very important, the weather was perfect.

Hotel Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort: Great Family Resort
This is a very good family resort. The service everywhere was excellent and they work really hard non stop to keep all areas of the resort very clean. This resort was at full capacity during our March Break stay and there was never any shortage of great service that we saw. We did not encounter any Timeshare issues. The beach is not that great due to the sea grass that is washed up each day. This is of no fault of the resorts and they work all day at clearing it up. We did see some good night en[... read more]tertainment as well as all the entertainment during the day around the pool. Was never an issue to get a lounger by the pool or beach. Maid service was good and our fridge was restocked each day. The commute between the airport and resort was very efficient and only about 30 minues away from airport. The town is very close and a very safe and nice spot to check out. We did not have any problems getting the reservations for dinner and the Italian was very good. The resort is a great size for a family wanting to give the kids some freedom yet still keep an eye on them. Would return.

Probably sound like a broken record, but this place is great. Food and drinks were very good, but the staff is what sets this place apart in my eyes. Yes, its expected that they are friendly, but truly they have taken it up notch. We will be back.

Grand Palladium Riviera Resort And Spa: Great March Break Experience
The Grand Palladium is huge and it takes a while to get used to getting around. The junior suite was well configured and suited our needs. Availability of movies would have been a plus.
A great feature for our pre-teens was the soccer pitch / tennis courts / mini putt area; and the main pool at the Riviera was also very popular.
For the period we were there the ocean was rough and the beach gathered sea plants, but we enjoyed the beach beds.
Some of the restaurants were difficult to get into - t[... read more]here seemed to be a bias in favour of "travel club members". Generally, the quality of the food was very good.
Overall, employees were courteous, friendly and helpful.
We would definitely go back. This is a great region for a family vacation, and we felt we got excellent value for the experience at the Grand Palladium.

Catalonia Yucatan: Great service, resort needs updating.
I enjoyed my stay. The staff was awesome. Unless you pay $500 extra to update to superior, the rooms are old, marked up and the beds are rock hard. Superior rooms were lovely. The beds were comfortable.
The beach was great for snorkelling ; much of it was covered in coral and the sand was gritty. If you like a long beach walk, it won't happen here which is really too bad. There was a great surf.
The local area; Puerto Adventuras was lovely, and gave visitors a nice place to walk , shop and see [... read more]Dolphins, seals and manatees. The area was super safe.
The Chill Lounge, accessible only to upgraded clients was a wonderful spot to enjoy evening drinks while feeling the warm breeze and listening to the surf.
The food was ok. The El Mercator buffet had nice decor.
Pools were great.
Lots of kayaks and good spot for laying for all levels.
Overall, barely a four star resort.

Riu Palace Peninsula: Nice hotel...terrible service!
I wouldn't call this a 5 star resort. The service at this hotel was below average. The rooms were nice but we had issues with lights not working, mini bar is not kept cold and the doors don't close probably. Everyone on our floor was slamming their doors shut so it was difficult to sleep in. Beach was fairly good...a bit rocky and the pool area was very lively.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Beautiful and Charming Resort! :)
The resort is nicely spread out, which is a actually a nice feature, as it allows you to explore and get in some exercise! ;)
Our room was in building 5 on the top floor. Yes, a few steps up and down, and definitely appreciated! There is no elevator! Staff is always there to carry luggage up and down, just call the front desk! Upon arrival your bags are tagged with your room number and the bags are delivered promptly with a smile!
Building 5 in itself was very quiet, since it 'houses' the adult/[... read more]quiet pool.
The only noise was between 9->10:30pm when the show was on at the outdoor theatre next door, no big deal.
The shows were really, really well done and keep kids and adults engaged and entertained.
Since my son (12) was not allowed to 'use' the pool at building 5, we just went to building 6 (2 mins) or frequented the other pools near building 1 and 4; it was a bit of a walk, yet we did not mind. Or we went to the beach, which was 7 mins away and my son enjoyed the snorkelling there!
The pools in general are open either until 6pm or 7pm. And then the 'area' undergoes a vigorous cleaning!!
The resort is immaculately well kept, everyone does such a fantastic job!!!
I noticed that this resort is well frequented by more senior people/retirees, mostly Canadians. There were a few kids, younger than my son, so the activities offered were more geared towards smaller children.
It was nice to see that the resort is also visited by quite a few Mexican families, it was a good mix for sure! The animation team is hard at work to offer yoga ( great! ), Spanish lessons, dance lessons, games, etc.
A Mexican wedding took place at the beach the evening arrived, that was neat to watch. More or less every night they set up a mini open air market near building 1/2
and you can browse, buy jewellery, bargain and have fun!
The food was AMAZING, the variety just blew me away. I work in the hospitality/aviation industry and I have to say the chefs are doing a fantastic job! Our building had a restaurant that had buffet style bfast and lunch; and in the evening it turned into a Thai and Japanese restaurant, one needed reservations. There were two buffet style restaurants that offered dinner a short walk
from our building. Every night they had a different theme. So, so much food was on display; it was overwhelming at times, esp. the dessert selection for the Mexican feature night... I can see how one can easily gain weight...lots of weight...plus the free drinks...some people got a bit 'carried away'.. oh well...;)
The staff in the restaurants was very, very nice and tried their best to remember one's name...a very friendly and thoughtful gesture indeed!
The resort was VERY well kept, so VERY clean; our room was cleaned later in the day, no issues with that.
It is nice that Bucerias is only a short walk either on the beach or road; we made good use of that, went to the market, got ice cream and ventured out for dinner one evening. The area appeared very safe. People were not too pushy, or tried to sell you everything you so don't need!
On Thursday we booked a sailboat trip to Yelapa with Pegaso Charters and that was certainly the highlight of our trip.
We got to see dolphins, walked up to the waterfalls in Yelapa, enjoyed lunch on the beach and went snorkelling; the cost was US $ 80 each and SO worth it.
The Air Transat reps at the resort were always very helpful; same applies to every resort staff member, lots of smiles and cheerful faces!
I understand why the resort is especially sought after by more 'senior' folks and why they come back!
It was a great way for us to get to know the area and be at this lovely resort.
Oh, I wanted to mention the iguana tree, which is the home to 40+ iguanas; fascinating to see them up close and it was a treat to have that tree right next to our building, for us to watch them daily!
Thank you for a wonderful and most memorable time!

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Not yet a five star
The resort was very nice and the food was good. A little disappointed at the variety of selections on the menu at the a la carte restaurants. Paid for the diamond club but did not feel that there was any benefit. Seen our butler at check in and was very nice but gave him a twenty and never seen him again the rest of the week. Took us three days and many phone calls to get an ice bucket. I finally flagged down a fellow stocking the fridges and got him to get us one. Restaurant reservations could [... read more]only be made at 6pm or 9pm which we found out later that they weren't busy at those times anyway. We booked the honeymoon suite and that was very nice. We have a rooftop jacuzzi that we used lots. The "upgraded" diamond club room service menu was exactly the same "word for word" as the regular room service menu that had very limited selection. I don't want to sound like a spoiled brat cause we are definitely not like that but we looked forward to this long awaited break and paid the extra money hoping to get pampered a bit. The beach was very nice but the ocean was littered with dead plant life and the workers were trying diligently to keep the beach clean but it was a never ending en devour. It was not the resorts fault for the state of the ocean, we can thank all of us for another side effect of global warming. Most of the staff was very nice and they were making a valiant effort to do a good job but they were definitely shot staffed in many areas. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience but it for sure wasn't five star status. This was our seventh trip to the mayan and have much better experiences at four star resorts. We will probably not return to this resort.

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Fabulous Resort
From the day of our check-in until the day we left the hotel staff were super friendly and ready and willing to accommodate any request. The Activities Team are so talented, not only did they run the games during the day, but they were also the main entertainers for the live shows at night which involved some pretty amazing skills, fire show, dancing, impersonators, etc. they also get to know the guests by mingling in the lobby before show time.
The setting and grounds are beautiful and maintain[... read more]ed impeccably filled with wildlife – peacocks, iguanas, parrots, cats. It's not a huge resort so finding your way around is easily managed. We stayed in block 72 and the room was excellent. New mattresses and really comfy. The room was close to the pool and we never had an issue with the pool noise. They could install an extra hook in the bathroom for your towels, etc. The only one they had was next to the toilet which was not convenient. The size of the room was a little small. Lucky the TV stand is open so we were able to store our luggage under it.
We enjoyed the pool with the swim up bar and the servers were excellent. You give them a recipe for a drink and they were more than pleased to accommodate you.
We were disappointed with the steak at the Steakhouse. The steaks were so tough that we ended up leaving half of it on our plate and the ribs I ordered at the American restaurant in the disco was all fat, hardly any meat. The buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner was good with a variety of food every day and some days they had a special theme day. We ate at the Le Ceiba almost every day for lunch and the food was delicious with a variety of salads, burgers, fries, pasta, fish, Italian, Mexican, etc.
The beach was OK but if you wanted to walk into the water it was really rocky.
One thing I missed was not having the free Wi-FI in our room or at least offer it free in the lobby so that I could keep in contact with home in case of any emergencies.
I would recommend the Iberostar to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay.

Occidental Tucancun: Wonderful property !!!!
We were blown away by this hotel. The staff and food are top class. The planned activities are excellent. One pool is definitely for the active and music loving folks. We're in our late 40's yet we didn't need to use the adult pool ( which is the one with the swim-up-bar ) as the many poolside waiters continually look after you non stop. The top tier pool with the infinity aspect is probably the best as you have an excellent view from the tanning beds/chairs. We chose the week of March 5-15 thin[... read more]king we had all the reading, spring breakers and March breakers covered but sadly there were a few rotten apples from norther US States that ruined our last 3 nts yet this would happen in any other similar star rated property. The showers in the rooms are ample and clean. The location of the hotel is ideal. The Mexican restaurant was the best as they served top notch Mexican food. The staff is top notch. We had a problem with the air conditioner and door knob and both were fixed immediately. We definitely have no problems coming back to this property in the future. You can't go wrong staying here and the mere fact that this property is rated 4 stars is crazy as it offers a spa and room service yet the property looks amazing. This can not be said about some of the others we witnessed on the way from the airport to the hotel. Antonio, the bar tender at the top tiered pool was super friendly and could handle the volume of requests like you have no idea. Everyone at the hotel always greeted you constantly with a smile. Great Property !!!
