Beautiful Sunsets

This resort is beautiful. It has amazing sunsets, fun activities, and a wonderful beach. However, the staff is not very friendly nor is the clientele. It is Italian, French and Spanish speaking only. The guests are very rude and the staff is not very friendly. The entertainment staff was the best and seems to work all day until 12:30 am. We rented an Oceanfront bungalow, room 1152 the sand flees were everywhere including all over the room. We are covered in bites! The food was not great, buffet  [... read more]food is covered in flies and the tables were always dirty. We usually had to find utensils and napkins and clean off our own table. All though the grounds were really nicely kept and the pools were warm and clean, no sea weed at the ocean, the lack of friendliness and rude guests we would not return to this resort.

Great resort

Very large grounds with many types of buildings and room selection. Few pools in different settings (quiet side, party pool, Super VIP section). Food available in many speciality dinner restauants and 1 big bufet. Wood owen pizza restaurant open 24/7. Drinks great, activities and entertainment all day long, disco bar in the hotel open every day after evening entertainment. Very good value for the price.

Not even a 2.5 star resort

Located about an hour from the airport, fairly large resort. Grounds are nice, maintained well. Our room was okay, clean, power would flash the room lights at all times for about a week, difficult sleeping, reported to customer service 5+ times, not fixed. Buffet food was mostly cold, concerned about food safety. Hard to get items for non-gluten diet. Good, warm food in the a la carts. Very long nice beach. Surprised by the lack of a beach BBQ or beach bar. Staff wasn't overly friendly.

I would not recommend this resort

This resort is crowded the food is all served cold .Lights in my room went off and on all night for days .Terrible smell in bathroom. Long line ups at pool side bar as there is no bar at beach so they come to the pool bar. Most employees very rude the only service is the bar ,room and alacartes that where pleasant .There was 14 of us on this trip and half of us had stomach issues It was rated as a 4.1 when we booked it's more like a 2.3 at most

NEVER GO HERE!!!!!!

The bad outweighs the good, it all started upon arrival at the front desk, the room was not ready so they said go get a drink at the bar, big line up. Then we tried to get beach towels to go for a swim, no beach towels, after complaining to many people 2 towels magically appeared . The entire week i met 4 english spe [... read more]aking people, this resort is Italian owned , 70 % were from Argentina and 30 % from Italy, NO Americans , NO Canadians, i met 1 man from Edmonton . The beach was nice, the water was clear, No drinks on the beach, no service. The mixed drinks were horrible and the bartenders did not know how to make many drinks. The beer was the crappy watered down draft, only in the a la carte restaurants could you get beer from a bottle. Avoid the Club Viva, its a scam, basically its a time share. Some of the workers were like zombies, especially in the La Rocca restaurant at breakfast, coffee was very slow to arrive so we had to help ourselves. To top it all off they encourage cell phone use, they put all apps on your phone so people walking around like zombies staring at their phones not watching where they are walking. I told them NO cell phone use for me ! There was NO real hotel manager visible to talk and complain to. It's the management and ownership being the problem ! Half way through i got sick from the food, i believe it was from breakfast as my travel partner did not get sick as i ate something different that day. It was clearly from bacteria , massive diarrhea , body aches and had to spend 1 day in the room to recover, i missed my snorkeling excursion because of that. Nice beach

Place - amazing beach, lots of space and shade. Food- average for the buffet, good for restaurants. Bars are full of fles and bees.Grounds are clean.and nice.The main concern is rooms, very old, moldy, not working AC, low water pressure, not hot water, noisy. Customer care personnel could not care less.

At 47, this is the best we've seen so far.

I first saw a lot of plants on the hotel grounds. Very good!My wife and I traveled a lot before the war. We saw many seas and hotels, each country is good in its own way, and life and sea and service. Everywhere has its own mentality. Dominican Republic and this hotel is our first time. Impressions are very good. And upon arrival in Canada, friends ask absolutely everything in detail.

Viva Whyndam Dominicus Holidays

We wore pick up at Punta Cana by a driver,brought us to the hotel.We changed our room 3 times,finally they give us a nice room,in mean times lost couple day by the times everything was over.Also they hotel gave us the fobes to open the door,and we had to change the fobes 3 times.Over all essential that bad.The rest was good,I will be back next year again.We wore there eleven times.Coming home the Sunwing rappresentant told me the pick up is at 7.20 a.m. the bus show up at 9.00 a.m. The plane was [... read more] late 3 hours.We should arrive at 4.00 p.m. we arrive in Toronto at 8.00 p.m.

Worst Vacation we’ve ever experienced!!!!

The resort itself was nice with lovely gardens. Little town of Dominicus not far from resort.stayed in a garden view Bungalow that was pretty basic. There were 3 of us so we had two double beds. We had a mini fridge, however it was not stocked with anything. You do not have a coffee maker in your room either at least in the bungalows you didn’t! You receive 2 bottles of water in your washroom to brush your teeth with and drink, I am assuming, but as I mentioned there were three of us and it w [... read more]as not until I confronted the maid in person to advise her that there were three persons occupying our bungalow that she left us three bottles of water and three bath towels and hand towels. Also, they are very skimpy on the toilet paper so once again i had to mention to her we need more than one roll of toilet paper for three people or we will be using our hand towels!! We asked for wash cloths but never received them however I am always in the habit of bringing an old one from home as I know that it is hit and miss with receiving wash cloths so I like to have one with me just in case. So all three of us brought our own wash cloths!! Once I tipped the maid we started to receive a larger quantity of water bottles which we kept some of them in our fridge to keep them cold for when we needed a drink! Also started to receive quite a few more towels and rolls of toilet paper! The buffet was just okay. Nothing Special!! The snack bar by the beach was a joke and so was the pizzeria!! They had one guy making pizza for dozens of people. The drinks were awful!! Liquor was watered down and beer on tap was warm most of the time!! If you wanted a COLD PRSEIDENTE BEER you had to buy it! I didn’t book an All- inclusive to have to go the store and buy my beer!! The Mexican al la carte!! This was the best meal that we had! There was so much food so many courses, Quick Service and FRIENDLY WAITERS!!!! Having said that I will go on to tell you that every single waiter, bartender, anyone that you would encounter at this resort was RUDE, AND NASTY AND WOULD INGNORE YOU! (Outside of this Mexican Restaurant) No One cared about you!! The worst Customer Service I have ever encountered and I have been to the Dominican Republic well over a dozen times!!! A horrible Shame!! Even if you said good morning or hello! There was never a response back from them!! We speak a little bit of spanish, enough to get by and have never had any problems associating with people in the Dominican republic before, as we travel frequently and and have always had the best time dealing with the staff! Even workers that maintain the property! At this resort it just seems that the staff that are employed here are miserable and just do not like their jobs or to converse with the guests! It does not matter whether or not you tip them nothing seems to change!!! There were maybe 3 people we had dealings with that appreciated the tip and were naturally friendly!! We were at the La Roca Pool bar one morning and when the bar opened we went up for a drink only to find no glasses within reach of the guests however there were 3 trays of clean glasses stacked behind the bar but the bartender was too busy talking to another co-worker and ingnored us standing there until my husband called to him politely “Amigo” and then we tried to gesture that we needed a glass to drink as it is a self serve draft pump for beer, water and soft drinks, so all they need to do is provide you with Clean Glasses. It was at that time he angrily looked up and started to mimic us, gesturing back and giving us a dirty look while slowly walking over to the trays of glasses and then slammed down a tray on the counter and walked away! I was horrified of his behaviour and disgusted!! I don’t work hard all year and pay good money to come to a resort to be treated in this manor!! It is totally unacceptable behaviour!! I also noticed there are NEVER any Managers nor Supervisors around anywhere to keep the staff moving along and in line!!! Another thing that was so very unfair and frustrating was trying to get a drink at the main bars. They would not use the first come first serve rule. They would serve whomever they wanted whenever they wanted which would mean you could be standing there waiting for 10-15 minutes or longer for a very small pour that was usually warm (Beer) and that is if they had any available as there were many times they ran out and you had to wait a very long time for them to change the keg!! No one seems to know what they are doing! They are very unorganized and EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED, from what we could see! For a Viva Wyndham Chain we were very disappointed. I thought it would have been a much better experience. We attended the 25 al la carte restaurant on the last night before we were leaving.. One of the WORST al la carte restaurants we have ever been in. When we walked in no one was at the podium greeting you. A lady had kept looking at us standing at the front waiting to be seated, yet she ignored us and kept cleaning tables. Never once did she say “I will be with you in one moment” or any attempt at letting us know she will be over. We waited a very long time for her to come over and take our receipt and seat us. She handed us our menus before we even sat down at the table which was very unprofessional!! We sat down and a gentleman came over and gave us water. We looked at the menu for a little while and our waiter walked back over to take our order. He came over and leaned over the empty chair and asked us if we were ready and what we wanted….. AGAIN very unprofessional!! The food WAS NOT good. My daughter could not even eat her steak it was tough and full of grissle and fat. They also don’t give you steak knives…. they give you butter knives…. so good luck trying to cut your food!! We had seen that our waiter had been bringing out pink cocktails to ALL others tables that were seated AFTER US!! Once they sat down he would give them those drinks. When I called our waiter over to ask him what that drink was and if we were suppose to receive one he couldn’t even tell me…. he had to call over to another lady and ask her. She then said it was a cosmopolitan. When my husband and I confronted him and asked were we supposed to receive those? Because everyone else that has come in you have given them one. He then said “oh you want one.”? And put down one that he had LEFTOVER on his tray. Never offered to give my husband or daughter one!!!! When we kept asking him if he was supposed to bring us those in the beginning when we sat down he ignored us and kept talking and laughing with another waitress. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! After that encounter he ignored us the rest of the dinner. He never cleared our dinner plates, another waitress had to come over and do so. We waited and waited for our desserts to be brought out and they NEVER arrived so we got up and left! We went to the buffet so my daughter could eat something as she never did eat anything there and she was starving!!! We had great weather the week from April 27th-May 4th It only rained overnight when we were asleep so we did the best to move on and and tried not to dwell too much on the ignorance of our wait staff and we tried the very best to make the most out of our vacation. Would we return there NEVER!!! Would I recommend it NO!!! For the money we paid for this resort I would have expected first class treatment!! This was the very first vacation that we can actually say we couldn’t wait to get home from!!!!!!!

A Beautiful Resort!

This was our second trip to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach. The property is well designed with a lot of sandy beach front covered with palm trees with lots of lounge chairs. Beautiful sunsets can be photographed from the beach. The beach is private and can only be used by Viva residents; there are no venders bothering you! : ) Our 'superior room' accommodations were fine; clean and spacious. All rooms are close to the beach. There are also lovely swimming pools, if the beach is not your thing. Ple [... read more]ase note there are no swim-up bars. The staff is very friendly. English is not their first language; it is probably their third behind Spanish and French. The food is fine, but we found they used a lot of salt and although baked desserts look great, they were often tasteless. If you don't want to eat at a buffet for every meal, they do have options. In the evening you can try to book at an A La Carte restaurant, I think you are allowed two during a week stay, although we had difficulty booking for eight people and the only time slots we could get were early (6:15pm and 6:45pm).

Amazing resort

Without doubt one of the favorite resortI stayed during my time in dominicun republic . Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and general manager, our names were mentioned on the board . The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (appreciate this!) and the restaurant supervisor deserves a special thanks.

Loved it!

The room is NOT beautifull, but all the rest is! Wounderfull beach. excellent restaurants. great staff. And it took only 45 minutes both ways to travel from airport/hotel. I was travelling with a baby, and she love it too!

Great resort!

The Viva Dominicus beach was overbooked for a bungalow so they offered us to stay at the sister resort Viva Dominicus Palace in a superior room. Although disappointed at first we were happy the grounds, lobby and rooms were always very clean. We preferred the pools as the beach was a little too rocky for our tender feet. There was always fresh towels, pool towels and plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. A Wonderful Vacation

I had a wonderful vacation at this resort. The entertainment was outstanding and the food was consistently excellent. The staff were very friendly and polite. On top of it all, the beach is amazing. I had a great time at Isla Saona and would definitely recommend this resort to others. El Capitano will be back!

Underrated and Underappreciated

We returned from the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach 4 days ago and I wish I was still there. This property is rated 3.5stars, but it is more of a 4 star. We were scared when we got to the lobby expecting a Grandiose area of congregation. The VWDB lobby is for checking wifi and coming and going. That's all. The resort opens up from there with great areas to hangout night and day. The beach is Amazing! White sand turquoise clear wAter and some large areas of coral in waist deep water teeming with fi [... read more]sh and amazing for snorkelling. 3/4 pools are beautiful with bars close at hand. There is a trapeze which is also included. And children 4-12 can use from 9-11. And adults 4-6. The standard room is just that "standard" and doesn't even have a fridge. But before you book look to see if there is a superior room available. Usually they are not much more. There also is bungalows that are stone buildings with thatched roofs. These are great and are closest to the beach. I reccomended these! The food at the main buffet is typical-really good buffet food. Nothing that blew me away but I was content every meal there. The a al carte restaurants were also very good. The Mexican restaurant was actually amazing. You can book into these every night so get into guest services and do it. The animation team were wonderful! It is a very multicultural hotel. And almost everyone speaks some-decent English. There are a lot of Italians at the resort so don't be offended if they don't speak English first. The animation team is made up of people from all over the world. Italy, Scotland, Brazil, Slovakia and Dominicans. Most can speak 4-5 languages well and they are all fun people and skilled dancers. At around 8:30 there is usually a band or music in the main courtyard and the animation staff is ever present to teach merengue or bachata. At 9:45 the show starts and was the best shows I've seen at a resort. Except the comedy show. Book a late dinner that day. Following the show there is a fun themed danceparty in the courtyard every night until 12:30 when the staff walks everyone interested to the disco. This is a very fun hotel with lots to do at any level of participation. The beach is large and although often packed. There are always loungers to be found. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and will return myself. We travelled with our 2 children 5&7.

Very nice

The resort itself was beautiful, well maintained and a pleasure to stay at. The staff were very helpful when the airline lost my luggage and were the primary reason that I was able to recover it while at the resort! Thanks for the great memories!

Very Nice Resort

Overall, I thought this resort was quite lovely. Great beach, decent service, good, if not spectacular food. Nice facilities, including bar areas. Really nice grounds with lots of greenery. Music at the main entertainment area at night a bit loud.

Pleasantly Surprised

I believe this resort is under rated. The grounds and beach were absolutely beautiful and well maintained. There are a variety of accommodations on the resort and even though our room was quite small and dated, it was well cleaned and supplies were replenished daily. Our travelling companions were in a bungalow, which was very charming. There are only two bars on this large property; however, the bartenders were pleasant and efficient. The buffet had lots to choose from and the Pizza Bar was gre [... read more]at! The hamburgers and hotdogs at the poolside grill were a little undercooked for my liking. There was a language barrier at the front desk and also with the Concierge (there were very few English speaking guests at the resort). Booking Ala Carte dinners was a little bizarre in that they said they couldn't accommodate our companions to accompany us at dinner one evening as our table was only big enough for three people and upon our arrival our table was set for four and the restaurant only had five tables in use during the time we were there. For our second Ala Carte they said they could accommodate all four of us if we would take an earlier reservation, which we did. Upon arrival at the earlier time they advised us they were not quite ready for us and asked us to wait outside for a moment. When we did get in, there were again only a handful of tables in use the whole time we were there. On the up side, the food at the Ala Cartes was quite good. I would be more than happy to return to this resort.
