I booked my trip with you in approximately September to depart on December 7th for 7 days to Hotel Camino Del Mar in Cayo Guillermo Cuba. I booked at this hotel about 8 years ago and loved it, so I didn't have any reason to investigate or ask about any problems.
We have been at the Hotel Camino Del Mar for 18 hours and I am utterly disgusted with this place.
Our arrival
. Welcome drink - brown powdered juice with rum
. Wait an hour for the room to be ready
. Walk the entire resort to fin[... read more]d 1 other couple
. The place is empty!
. At 1:00 the restaurant opened for lunch - 1 meat 1 rice and 2 other selections - I left and went to the 24-hour snack bar
. Nothing was available at the snack bar but a chicken sandwich - this consisted of mixed skin, fat, grizzle and a piece of white meat on a dinner roll with a slice of cucumber.
. One whole side of the pool is green with algae and fur
. Bar .. again no mix available but brown powder juice
-beer only
We get our room
. No one helps us with our bags
. We had to carry them up 3 flights of stairs
. This room was not what we asked for! It should have been an ocean-view king bed. This room had 3 twin beds.
. The balcony door did not open- the lock was all broken and jammed
. There is no hot water in the entire resort!
We arrived at the resort around 12:30 lunch and there was hardly any food until dinner at 7:00 pm
Dinner -7-9
. One small table that Consisted of brown rice, fish full of bones, pasta with no sauce and a couple of other small things that I don’t know what they were. Everything was cold!
No wine, or coffee with dinner only brown powdered juice with no flavour.
WE WERE STARVING!
Night time entertainment
. When we came out of the dinner at 7:20 - it was pitch black outside!!
No lights in the entire resort except the lobby!! We had to use our phone flashlight to navigate ourselves back to the room without being hurt.
No entertainment at night or anywhere in the resort
We went to bed at 7:45 pm out of no choice of our own.
Morning Breakfast.
I woke up and went for coffee at the wonderful espresso bar. NO COFFEE!
That was it! I went to the manager and asked him what he was going to do about this situation. We did not pay $2,000 for this!
He said we could move to the resort next door called Iberostar Daiquiri. We could get there by paying for our cab or bus. We also could walk as it was a kilometre down the road. We dragged our heavy luggage down the road and walked into the Iberostar where we were greeted and treated like we should have for a Cuban all-inclusive resort. I applaud Iberostar for saving the guests who were all booked at Camino Del Mar.

Disappointing resort
We had been in this resort for four to five years before the pandemic. This time the resort was far behind the services we had before. We only could have mainly eggs for our breakfast and fried fishes, pumpkins and eggs for our lunches and dinners. The management was deteriorated much in comparing with four years ago. Last day of our visit, we needed to check out at noon time but our time for leaving to the airport was 1800 hours. We wished to retain one of rooms for late check out to our leavin[... read more]g time. The charge was remarkable high of US$10 per hour, quite disappointing. Besides, I did not have hot water supply to my room and poor air-conditioning to my friend's room.
Nevertheless, the cleanliness of the rooms was up to standard as previous years.

Beautiful resort!
The beach, pool, and staff are awesome. Rooms are cleaned daily if you wish. Some of the toilets in the public areas do not flush so learn which ones do until they are fixed! The hard working staff do all they can to cook, clean, and accommodate requests as possible. Overall we had a great time. There are some food shortages at times (bread, pasta, baked goods, etc) but that is actually a Cuba wide problem as I confirmed with others on the planes and buses from other resorts. Although food sel[... read more]ections were limited and repetitive at times, anything we did eat was delicious. It is shown as a 4/5 star but I would say it is closer to a 3. But if you are looking for sun, sand, and relaxation it certainly does not disappoint.

Worst resort food ever
We have been several times in Cuba and we always had good food. This resort eqs the worst food ever. No taste, no choices and we are not picky eaters. They did not had oil and vinegar for salad, bread was every third day. Cheese or salami every second or third day. Even the BBQ meat they were making was bad. Their excuse was recession and supply issues, but all surrounding resorts had food. Staff was friendly and helpful, resort is old but clean. Our room had no hot water for showers and even we[... read more] complained to the manager it was not fixed while we were there. Beach was nice but to much sea grass in the water.
I would also mention that we are very disappointed from Tripcentral also, as we were booking with an agent and no one mention this to us. I have also send an email to the CEO, week ago and no response. Very disappointing and disrespectful towards customers. I don't recommend this resort to anyone and I will not be using Tripcentral in the future.

Honest review ** two star and that's being generous
Bottom line, if your going here take your own food as there is shortages of everything,
ketchup, syrup, rice, bread, potatoes, butter, any condiments all non existent.
There was no hot water nor pressure for the entire week. Those asking about rooms being renovated, this is not happening, I only saw painting taken place. rooms are very dated and especially bathrooms. maids did amazing job keeping rooms clean thou..
Seriously, Cuba in general is in crisis mode when it comes to food, not j[... read more]ust shortages at Camino but all over Cuba. even airport had nothing to eat, last year when we went they had pizza, fries etc... lots of options, this time nada. I feel that tour operators should not be selling packages here at this time as they are not equipped due to all the shortages they are experiencing and people pay alot for their vacations and want what they pay for. I feel for them really, when we arrived capacity was 60 people in total therefore, no restaurants besides buffet for the first 4 days. then when we did get reservations was 2/5. Then a whole bus load of locals came to the resort and they got priority over everyone else. The music was loud everywhere on the resort, you couldn't escape it. Spanish music always and sometimes the loud speaker right through the resort at 1:00 AM.
Everything you read in your all inclusive package, you will NOT get.
there is no 24 hour anything.
there is a ton of No see ums, they are in abundance for some reason, got over 100 bites and so did alot of others as we were all comparing at airport. take lots of spray.
I love Cuba, I've been many times, this by far was the worst vacation making me question if I will ever return. the staff are pretty nice, they can only do so much for you thou.

Disappointing resort
The website had no mention of over half the resort being under construction as well as amenities advertised are not on location. The 24 hour food bar had no food and the grounds were not kept up. There was a cardboard box outside our room the entire week, as well as cups. Most bathrooms were always out of toilet paper. The two al a cart restaurants were also not what they were advertised as. The excursion we booked was poorly run and disorganized. Very disappointed.

Not an amazing resort.
Hotel is nice. Not great. However, it has been freshly painted and cleaned. However, some of the front desk are clueless. There was no water for two days. I mean no water. The front desk said it was not their problem as some water main was broken in Moron (a city where water comes from). They fixed the problem two days later and the hot water was luke warm. Ashamed to say that I soaped myself at the side pool and jumped in. I was Ok with that as it is in Cuba and not cold.
The phones i[... read more]n the room were not working. No dial tone. My friends and I are seniors. If one of us were in medical distress, there was nowhere to call. It would have been a cold body to find the next day when the maid came in. What is the matter with these cubans ? They depend on Canadians to pay their bills and cannot fix something basic like a phone line (no internet in the rooms). The tourists that were there were mostly cubans and a few canadians. The cubans were overloading their plates with food and tipping into their bags at their table. Unfortunately, the environment was not a concern to the cubans as cigarette butts were strewn on the floor BTW).
On the good side, the weather was great and the staff was not too aggressive looking for tips (like in Varadero). Ask for a non-smoking room and if you are older, ask for a ground floor room. The food is good with a variety of salads and the wait staff is polite and friendly. I did not find any shortages. There was plenty of beer, rum and vodka. The food is good with a variety of salads and the wait staff is polite and friendly. I did not find any shortages.
If you are going to Pilar beack (a popular attraction site), take a small fold-able light 3 or 4 legged chair. They are available in some dollar stores and they are enough to support your behind. I say this as they have plastic beach chairs and are asking $5 US on credit card on the deck where they sell $10 drinks. They will also take cash but you have to give it to a negro who pockets it. No local money is accepted. Go figure !. (Cuban stores will not take their own national currency)

Turquoise sea!
Rooms need some updating. Food was okay, not much variety. Hotel staff was friendly and attentive. Our housekeeping was terrific, cleaning done very well and "towel art" everyday was fun! Live music and shows were really good, musicians were so talented. The real star is the beach. Amazing turquoise sea and white sand.

Home away from home
My husband and I have gone to this resort 7 times, sometimes with children and other times by ourselves. This trip was for 3 weeks from Jan 18 - Feb 8, 2020. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. We did not have an issue with water or air conditioning. There is a block of rooms that don't have air but travellers are not put into these rooms as they are closed until the issue is fixed. The beach is clean and beautiful. The pool is clean and inviting. The gardens are beautiful. The food is plentifu[... read more]l and very good. For breakfast, there is an egg station and a pancake / french toast station. Bread is fresh and delicious. There are plenty of assorted cheeses, cold meats, jams and fresh fruit. There is a smoothie/juice station. At dinner, there is a fish grill and a meat grill where you pick your own cut of meat/fish and they cook it for you. There is a pizza and a pasta station. The salad fixings are abundant. Overall, the food is plentiful, hot and very good. The drinks are good. The service is excellent in the bars and in the restaurants/buffet. The rooms are older but they are very clean. Our bed was comfortable and we had no issues with hot water or air-conditioning. The staff are AMAZING, from the gardeners to the General Manager. All of them are what make this resort our home away from home. This resort is small and quiet and we absolutely love it. Hello to all of our Melia family (too many to mention by name) - we'll see you next year.

Fantastic Place!
The Beach was great, the best for walks, sunbathing and fishing on the pier. The staff at the pool bar was warm and attentive, they did a great job making you feel welcome and cared for. I did have one mechanics issue, it was quickly remedied when reported to the customer service desk. I always had plenty of fresh food choices, the beach restaurant never disappointed, nor did the buffet. A little tuning in the a la carte needed still fun times. Cayo Guillermo
The grounds were well maintained. The rooms were not. What bothered me most was that their septic system was gross. Toilets did not flush if you used toilet paper. I was told I had to put the paper in the trash can. The showers were iffy. Worked sometimes, not other times. Beach was good. Food was typical for Cuba. My roommate was happy with the fishing wharf. You might consider me a fussy person, but I was not the only one not happy.

Nice resort!
I just stayed at this hotel last week (January 12th-19th) and it was very nice! If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing place this is the resort! The food was good, no issues with anything. Lots to eat and always lots of fresh meat on the grill. The room could use some updating but was very clean. Our ceiling leaked twice, but maintenance came very quickly to fix it. Our safe was also not working in the room, and they came early morning to fix it. Overall clean room just a little out dated.[... read more] The beach was very nice! Long white sand beach, but it was very windy. There were lots of wind surfers in the ocean, and it was a red flag every day. We still swam in the ocean but did not go out very far. The pool area was very nice and clean. The washrooms all have very short doors and the toilets in the public washrooms didn’t flush properly. Overall i enjoyed the resort, and i would visit again for a relaxing holiday!

We had a great time. The staff there were amazing. Very friendly. They made you feel at home. The pier is beautiful. The grounds were very well kept. We are at all 3 Al la Carte and I have to say they were among the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Would definitely go back to this resort.

Exactly what we paid for
We recently returned from a week at the Melia Cayo Guillermo. Although there were some small issues when we arrived we had a great time. We arrived in the morning so our room was not ready right away - not an issue. When we got to our room the door would not open - it was stuck due to swelling of the wood as the air conditioning was not working properly, our safe did not work and while our toilet flushed it was insufficient to flush properly and required multiple flushes. We reported these is[... read more]sues to guest services. The air conditioning was fixed right away and the door and safe were fixed the next day. Apparently the toilet was worked on but it continued to malfunction the rest of the week however, was not an issue. We had no other issues with our room the rest of the week, it was comfortable and clean.
One issue we had with the resort was the public washrooms. In the pool bar women's washroom the toilets did not flush at all. All of the women's washrooms were out of paper by the end of the day and were not refilled until much later the next morning. In two of the men's washrooms the urinals were not functioning.
Surprisingly, except for 1 day, there was no bread at lunch or dinner, only breakfast.
We found the resort itself beautiful, very picturesque. We found the food good but the buffet was repetitive with very little variety day to day or even meal to meal. Like everywhere else in Cuba that we have been too, the staff at the resort are wonderful.
If you are unfamiliar with Cuban resorts I would not recommend this resort for your first visit. We have been to Cuba 18 times and are very familiar with the issues most resorts have to deal with. Our expectations were not high as the price was very, very reasonable.
All in all it was a pleasant vacation

Awesome resort and staff!
Everything was perfect. One of our rooms didn't have proper air conditioning and they got a new one the next day. They were very accommodating for our party of 10. Food was good even if your a Vegan. It was very windy for the entire trip, which was ok to me. It was fun in the ocean and you could still jump off at the end of the pier for a quick dip. Didn't use the pool, but seemed like people were enjoying it. We went to one of their sister hotels, Melia Jardines del Rey for lunch and a swim, th[... read more]at was fun.
