The survey results depicted three types of women—the Friskies, the Fantasizers and the Frisky Fantasizers.

  Friskies

  The Friskies are those women who have actually had sex outside the hotel room.
• 

  Fantasizers

  The Fantasizers have dreamed of having sex somewhere outside the hotel room.
• 

  Frisky Fantasizers

  This group represents how many of the Friskies are also Fantasizers.

When it comes to fantasizing about having sex outside the hotel room and following through to make fantasy reality, here are the top 10 most popular places.

In the Sauna

The heat and sweat pumping pheromones into over drive surely combine to explain why 13% of women said they've fantasized about having sex in the sauna and 64% of Fantasizers are also Friskies. We can say with confidence that age definitely has something to do with this one.

• 18% of women aged 18-34 had a sauna fantasy
• But only 8% of women 45-60 had the sweaty fantasy

On the other hand, the reality of such intense heat causing dizziness—and the chance of being caught with nowhere to run—may be the reason only 3% have actually done it. That's a huge gap between fantasy and reality.

In a Hammock

Roughly 13% of women asked said they've fantasized about having sex in a hammock. It's that crazy and wild younger crowd again:

• 18-34	-	20%

• 35-44	-	10%

• 45-60	-	9%

Of the small percentage of Fantasizers, 63% are also Friskies. However, less than 4% of all women have actually done it in a hammock, and even less for those aged 45-60. We think it's not for lack of trying, but that the instability of the swing combined with challenging angles and heights aren't conducive to a romp in the ropes.

The romantic image of a couple swinging in a hammock definitely entices thoughts of rest and relaxation—but extra-curricular activities are probably best left to the Fantasizers.

In a Public Restroom

We're reminded of a story, told by an airline executive, reporting footprints on the mirrors of the airplane lavatory. Really?

Only 7% of women said they've fantasized about having sex in a public restroom—no kidding. It must be something very primal that would kick that urge into high gear. Sure, some resorts have public restrooms tucked quietly away, but given the many more romantic options, this one seems seriously unpleasant. That probably explains why only 6% of women surveyed admitted to having actually done it in a public restroom. Sixty-one percent (61%) of restroom Fantasizers are also Friskies.

On the other hand, maybe it's the countertop and the mirrors that make this location appealing. Either way, there isn't a whole lot of fantasy happening around this one either, so there's no real lack of fulfillment when it comes to sex in a public restroom.

On a Lounge Chair

This one surprised us a bit. Who hasn't taken a stroll along the beach or a quiet pool area at night only to find couples cuddled up on a lounge chair? Could it be the lack of surface space and cushions that explain why only 9% of women have actually done it?

• 13% of the women polled have fantasized about having sex on a lounge chair
• 57% of lounge chair Fantasizers are also Friskies

Once again, the younger crowd (18-34) dominates this fantasy 17% of the time, whereas the more "experienced" group (45-60) dreams of this only 8% of the time. Maybe the fantasy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

On a Boat

We're not talking about a cruise ship here; we're talking about paddling out a few hundred feet in a little fishing boat, a canoe, small sailboat or catamaran.

• 21% of women surveyed are bow-breaking Fantasizers
• 10% said they’ve made waves on a boat
• 60% of Fantasizers are also Friskies

This gap between reality and fantasy is one of the largest in the entire survey. Those fantasizing but not indulging may want to reconsider... a boat is simple, accessible and private. Those aged 18-34 were twice as likely to fantasize about doing it on a boat—30% compared to 12% 45-60.

Does the combined motion of the ocean make it too hard to keep from capsizing? Or is the boat just too small and awkward to make it worth the while? Perhaps it's simpler to jump overboard and explore the #2 spot!

In a Hot Tub

• 19% of women surveyed said they've fantasized about sexing it up in the hot tub while on vacation
• 14% of all women surveyed admit to having actually done it

The Fantasizers are primarily made up of those aged 18-34:

• 30% of Fantasizers fall into this age group
• 17% of this age group have done the deed

Compared to those aged 45-60:

• Only 11% of Fantasizers fall into this age group
• And only 10% of this group have done it

We found it interesting that the gap between Fantasizers and Friskies is not as big for the hot tub as it is for our other hot spot—the sauna.

• 50% of hot tub Fantasizers are also Friskies

It's easy to appear innocent from the neck up, but what goes on just beneath the surface is your little secret. The hot tub is a seductively sensual way to spice things up!

On the Balcony

We thought this one might be more popular, simply because it's so accessible—but perhaps it's a little too close for comfort to the neighbours next door.

• 19% have fantasized about stepping out onto the balcony for a quickie
• 14% of Friskies claim they've done it on the balcony
• 60% of balcony Fantasizers are also Friskies

We noticed that 27% of 18-34-year-olds have fantasized about this one, compared to only 13% of those 45-60. So we can't help but wonder: is it because they're sharing a room with another couple who never leave? Or are they sneaking out for a quickie while the kids are asleep? We may never know... you be the judge.

In the Pool

In-the-pool Fantasizers are the same breed as in-the-hot-tub Fantasizers.

• 19% said they've fantasized about sex in the pool
• 14% of all women polled have done it in the pool
• 53% of wet 'n wild Fantasizers are also Friskies

Late at night, the pool can offer quiet, unlit areas where couples can sneak away to fool around. Cool water must do something to everyone's libido, as there's no difference between age groups on this one. Hot temps cooled by refreshing water is enough to heighten your senses, but pair that with sun-kissed skin and itty bitty bikinis, and you're primed for a wet 'n wild ride.

In the Ocean

Imagine being out in the open water inviting inquisitive onlookers, but privately hidden just beneath the surface of the water. Finding a nice private cove is the best way to bring this fantasy to fruition.

Not surprisingly, one quarter of women surveyed said they've fantasized about having sex in the ocean, while 55% of ocean Fantasizers are also Friskies.

Thirty-four (34%) of Friskies admit to having done it in the ocean. The ocean can be a truly tantalizing way to explore your inner exhibitionist.

On the Beach

Ah yes, the classic sex on the beach fantasy—no surprise they named a cocktail after it! We've seen it often enough on the big screen to explain why 35% of women surveyed said they've fantasized about getting down and dirty in the sand.

One in five women said they've actually had sex on the beach while on vacation. This one is steady amongst all age groups, so the famous scene in From Here to Eternity seems to be burned in women's psyches across all generations.

Nearly half (48%) of the Fantasizers are also Friskies. We started to wonder about that 15% gap between the Fantasizers and the Friskies... but after more careful consideration, it occurred to us that sand in the wrong places could be rather... umm... uncomfortable, shall we say?

Hands down, across the board, sex on the beach is the most popular place among Friskies and Fantasizers.

Deeper Thoughts on Vacation Sex Outside the Hotel Room

We did not do a libido test, but simply comparing the Friskies and Fantasizers tells a compelling story. It could be that the majority of women (57%) find that their hotel room is the most relaxing, private place for intimacy—which is why choosing the right one is so important.

Younger women (18-34) were more likely to have higher response on fantasies and realities than those aged 45-60. Considering the question was, "have you EVER," we found this somewhat surprising. We thought that more life experience back in the swingin' sixties might have yielded different results.

What we do know for sure are two facts:

• If you've fantasized about it, there's a good chance you've done it
• There's a huge untapped fantasy-to-reality gap out there

Now, we're not advocating a mad rush of Canadians sneak out of their hotel rooms late at night to fulfill their frisky fantasies—after all, it's illegal in most countries. But we're pretty sure this survey will stimulate some conversation between you and your partner...and...you never know!
