Cheap flights to Cancun

Cancun is a very popular vacation location for Canadians. There are regular scheduled flights daily to Cancun as well as weekly charter service all year round.  It is easy to use tripcentral.ca’s flight reservations system to see and compare the different flights.

Always compare scheduled and charter airfares when looking for cheap flights to Cancun. Also compare vacation packages and all inclusive resorts with any individual travel plans. You may find that a vacation package or all inclusive resort provides cheaper airfare.

Scheduled Flights:
There are daily scheduled flights available with Air Canada and West Jet all year round. You can get direct or non-stop flights from Toronto all year. Montreal and Calgary have non-stop or direct flights from November to May. All other scheduled flights to Cancun will be connecting flights. This means you would change planes in Toronto, Montreal or Calgary.

Because regularly scheduled airfares are very competitive cheap flights are sometimes available.  Air Canada and West Jet sometimes offer discount airfare. The best time to book your airline tickets is between one to four months before your trip or holiday. You want to take advantage of any discounts being offered before they sell out, so book early whenever possible.

It is a myth that cheap airfare will always available at the last minute. It is true that there is a chance there might be seat sales within 30 days of departure.  But if you are waiting for seat sales you risk the flight selling out and missing the departure date you wanted. Also because flights to Cancun can sell out quickly you may find that ticket prices increase instead of decrease. It is a good idea to discuss this with your tripcentral travel agent to find out the best options to have your desired departure date and the lowest airfares.

Flying to Cancun at the last minute can be expensive. Cheap flights sell out quickly and sometimes airfares increase with demand. Charter airfares offered by Air Transat and Sunwing might be your best option.

Charter Flights:
All year there are several weekly charter flights to Cancun from Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax. Between October and April Sunwing provides weekly flights to Cancun from Ottawa and Winnipeg. Between May and September you would need to take a connecting flight from Ottawa or Winnipeg to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary or Halifax and then continue onto Cancun.

Charter airfare does not normally change with demand.  Charter airfare is set months in advance, usually the spring for the following  fall and winter season.  As a result Air Transat and Sunwing may already have cheap flights before any seat sales or discounts.

Most people only book charter flights as part of a vacation package, but anyone can fly charter. You don’t need to be part of a group or vacation package to get cheap airfare.  Though, you will want to book your seat early. Charter flights hold seats for groups booking with all inclusive resorts. This often limits available seats. Occasionally there may be a last minute seat sale, but not usually. This only happens when the seats held for vacation packages have not sold thirty days prior to departure.

Vacation Packages:
Vacation packages can offer cheap flights because they do volume seats with charter airlines. When planning a trip to Cancun you should compare the whole trip, not just the airfare. You want to get the best deals on everything, not only your flight. You can always call a tripcentral.ca’s travel agent to find out all your options. Flying from border cities:
Occasionally cheap flights can be found at border cities. If it is more convenient or less expensive for you to fly out of the border cities you may wish to explore that option.  Just keep in mind any expenses or inconvenience involved with getting to a border city. Savings from cheap flights in border cities may not be real savings once the cost of getting to the different airports is compared.  Discount airfare and seat sales are only valuable if they actually save you money.
