Unfortunately night before leaving February 10th all flights to Cuba were canceled and now we are waiting for our full refund. Sadly due to Elizabeth's age of 80 she was so looking forward to this vacation. And with increased prices for Dominican and Mexico this won't be possible Wishing safety and good health to all our Cuban friends. Until we can be together again. Always in our thoughts and prayers ?

Playa Pesquero: Beautiful place, beautiful people
We’ve been to this resort many times. This visit we treated ourselves to the Luxury section. We have never been so pampered and cared for. The staff and management are warm and attentive. Because the Luxury section is smaller in size we were able to really get to know the staff and this was one of the best and memorable parts of this visit. The food was delicious. The room was spacious and clean. The grounds were expectable. We cannot wait to go back.

Playa Pesquero: Great week in Playa Pasquero
For the price this resort offers great value. The pool and the beach were why we went and they were exceptional. The grounds were beautiful and the staff were very responsive and friendly The food supply was constrained but the resort did their best to serve decent meals. It wasn’t the best but we could always find something reasonable to eat.

Playa Pesquero: Everything was fine - dont listen to panicked people
Everything about the hotel was fine; great beach, we did snorkeling, swimming, aqua-gym. The buffet was fine too comparable to a 4 star in Cuba in the previous year. There was not a very great choice of food, but we always managed, as a family of 4, to get good meals. The restaurants were fine, especially the Italian one, with a great tomato soup and beef. We did not have access to sea food however, except white fish. We did a lot of swimming and playing in the pool. I really dont understand other comments here that almost made us cancelled our trip. It was FINE (for Cuba). The staff was great. We didnt go much out late at night but there wasnt much animation (that I was aware of), rather low but good animation (man at piano, singer, small band). Lot of family with kids, older persons 55+. There was animation at one side of the great long pool, but if you go to the other side it was most peacefull. We enjoyed the coffee wagon at the lobby.

Playa Pesquero: Newbies: Read This!
We've been travelling to Cuba almost every year for almost 40 years and Playa Pesquera certainly is the resort I like the least. Let's stick to the facts, not my likes and dislikes. This is a snapshot of my week there in early February, 2026. The Air Canada Vacations Rep was Missing (Inaction). The orientation meeting was very poorly done. Misinformation on tours and no orientation to the grounds at all. This is a huge resort and it is easy to get lost (especially at night). Signage was poor. Washrooms not marked or not marked with men/women. The food was poor but this is not a complaint. We ate much better than the average Cuban. Fish Beach has no fish. Cuba is surrounded by water and there was no fish. They did have lots of tinned sardines however. Luckily at the hotel the liquor, wine and beer flowed freely. The week we were there, large groups of family and friends arrived and took over the hotel. The noise levels in the common areas was intolerable. Wild children ran freely! Members of the hotel Facebook page do not always tell facts and can actively gaslight dissidents . They also tend to be rude to anyone who disagrees with them. The grounds of the hotel are attractive and well-kept. The workers are helpful and pleasant. The hotel pool is expansive with lots of palapas to keep you shaded. The same goes for the beach although it is rocky in places. The hotel allows smoking in common areas. Remember non-smoking seats on planes? Music provided was mostly American. No big show. Actually there might have been but we have no way of knowing. Remember, no signage.

Playa Pesquero: Food expectations were low, but it was far worse than expected
First off, the layout of the buffet is very unorganized. The second the buffet opens, everyone rushes the place and the giant lineups begin. While those are in line waiting for freshly made food, others have to cut in and gather in swarms to take from the pre-made pans. Who thought this layout would be a good idea?! The food was not good. The reviews that state everything is perfect and nothing is missing is certainly not true. People who were not even present at the resort were commenting on the good quality and selection of food without even being there. Just because you were once there and the food was decent then, doesn't mean it's the same today. The weather was great, the pools were nice and the beach is beautiful but the food that was available was terrible and unappealing. I will not be returning to this resort nor would I recommend.

Playa Pesquero: Playa pesquero
Unfortunately, this vacation was far from the experience that was advertised and paid for. We encountered multiple serious issues throughout our stay, which significantly impacted our health, comfort, and overall enjoyment of the trip. These issues included, but were not limited to: • unsanitary room conditions / insects / filthy mattresses, bed sheets were so worn and so filthy you cannot imagine • lack of food options / poor food quality for the whole period we never had a single fruit or vegetable. Only noodle soup rise and bins, people either were fighting over an boiled egg or they had to wait in lines for 20 min each time.Miserable. • we were 14 people and all of us came back hungry and the body full of insects bites. We are taking treatment(oral treatment) for the insect situation we had in Cuba • services or amenities not available as advertised absolutely ridiculous how you advertise such a resort

Playa Pesquero: Avoid at all costs
I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment with the vacation package we purchased through Sunwing for our stay at Playa Pasquero from December 30 to January 6. We were a group of 14 people. What was meant to be a relaxing holiday turned into an extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable experience due to multiple issues at the 5* resort..... From the moment we arrived, the service at the hotel was far below acceptable standards. We had to drag our luggage's ourselves to the room, which was on the other site of the resort. Our sheets were never changed throughout the stay, and the towels were also not replaced despite repeated requests, and daily tips to the staff.. We had to go to the lobby daily to request water... the fridge was always empty. The room conditions were unacceptable, with a significant mosquito infestation and even signs of bed bugs, which made it difficult to sleep or feel comfortable in the space. We have pictures of the mosquito bites.. The food situation was equally concerning. The quality was extremely poor, with leftovers from lunch being served again at dinner. Over the course of seven days, we did not see a single fresh vegetable offered. Breakfast was chaotic, with tourists literally fighting over eggs due to lack of availability and poor organization. This is not the level of service or quality advertised, nor what we expected when booking with Sunwing. Overall, the experience fell drastically short of the standards promised, and it certainly did not reflect the value we paid for this trip.

Playa Pesquero: Stay Away
My daughter and I were there over Christmas holidays, and we were so disappointed. I had been there 3 times prior and enjoyed the experience. We were given a sub par room, no working phone, no thermostat adjustment to AC, room very musty and humid, signs of water damage. Spent 3-4 hours convincing front desk to move us. They did not show must interest. Swimming pool was green, grounds of resort unkept and broken down in a lot of areas The food was horrible, fatty pork, beans and plain pasta. No fruits or vegtables. Lots of empty buffet containers. They do not replace when empty. Stale dried out buns and bread. No butter, salt, pepper, no mustard at times. Tiny paper napkins maybe at table. La Pippa 24hour restaurant, only hot dog on white bread...nothing else. Al a Carte was not what was on the menu. You were given two choices, cheapest poor quality choices. Alcohol was Havana Club, not much else. No mixes except slushy sugar water or tonic. The beach and ocean were beautiful and most of the staff were very Kind. Entertainment staff don't do much but dance at side of pool, worst I have ever seen. Evening shows were dismall, nobody in the seats watching.

Playa Pesquero: Cuba at its best
When going to Cuba, you go to enjoy the ocean, snorkeling, weather and hospitality of Cuban people. I must say we got it all with this resort. The resort is safe for kids to run around, to get ice cream and snacks. Entertainment team is amazing at creating a holiday like atmosphere. They are great with kids of all ages, and it allows parents to relax as well. Rooms are clean, AC works well, no issues with water or electricity. Food is minimal at this time, however we were not hungry. It is our third time at the resort and we are planning to go back. It is just an hour away from the airport. Wi-fi works great, even at the beach.

Playa Pesquero: Amazing hotel!
Nadejda and Valeri. We just returned home. This was our sixth visit to this hotel. As always, I'd like to highlight the wonderful attitude of all the staff towards guests; you feel like you're home among family. The beach is beautiful, the ocean is stunning. It rained a lot this season, so there were a lot of mosquitoes. We've never seen so many in Cuba. Cuba is a tropical country where you can grow many crops, but unfortunately, the hotel had a lot of meat dishes, but no fruit, only watermelon and, rarely, bananas. The only vegetables were cucumbers and peppers. We've been to Cuba about 30 times, but now we're thinking it's time to switch to another Caribbean destination to have some fruit and vegetables on the menu; it's impossible to eat only meat dishes for two weeks. Once again, we'd like to thank the service staff. October 7-21.

Playa Pesquero: Amazing hotel!
In April we came to this hotel for the 5th time. We like everything there: wonderful staff, beautiful ocean, clean beach. This year there were a lot of fruits and vegetables, but most of all we liked the artists in the lobby: saxophonist, pianist, singers. We thank everyone who made our holiday unforgettable. In this hotel it is impossible to single out someone personally, because everyone works perfectly.

Playa Pesquero: Beautiful resort
We enjoyed very much our stay. The beach is magnificent, turquoise waters, soft sand, plenty of shade. The swimming pools from very shallow to decent depth. We had upgraded to Luxury and it was totally worth it: we had a gorgeous swimming pool just for our section, right beside the entertainment at the big pool. Food was good, we had pancakes, eggs with vegetables, mussels, fish, amazing coffee. The staff was excellent: they always had a smile and were very efficient. We also noticed the birds chaser at the buffet, a man who was always smiling while doing his job. The music at the swimming pool was very good and not too loud and at the Luxury section we had our bartender who brought us drinks and was very efficient. We didn't see the time go by and one week was too short. We are going to return and bring more friends! Thank you to all the amazing and warm people!

Playa Pesquero: Fantastic Resort! 5 star quality!
My husband and I spent a week (7 days) at Playa Pesquero resort - Premium section (March 21 - March 28, 2025). First, if you're considering staying at this resort, Premium is the best way to go! Our flight was delayed 4 times and we ended up arriving to our room late. The room was massive and so clean! Our butler service delivered to us a late night meal because we were so hungry. The Premium restaurant was our favourite place to eat. The food was so fresh and tasty and the staff was so eager to please! The Premium side of the beach was less occupied than the regular side and we had no issues finding shaded places to lounge daily. The gentleman bringing us drinks was quick and friendly. When not at the beach, we spent time at the Premium pool, which also was less occupied than the regular side and the snack bar attached served amazing food (highly recommend the premium club sandwich). The staff at the Premium snack bar were so friendly! Our room was the best room we have ever stayed in while visiting Cuba! The outdoor shower was amazing and the jacuzzi tub was so relaxing after a day in the sun! My husband and I have been to multiple resorts in Cuba, but we are already planning to return to this one as soon as we can! Our stay was that great!

Playa Pesquero: Been back many times we love this place!
I think this was my 6th time back to Playa, my parents have been going for 20 years and have taken us a few times and my sisters, and I have returned with them many times since. We went last year and for the first time brought my son, this year they are in much better shape staffing and food wise than last year. My 4-year-old had the best time and hadn't stopped talking about it since last year. The staff are phenomenal, I was ecstatic to see the rum crepes back on the dinner buffet, the selection of fish was so good at the a la carts and the buffet and even the mussels on the buffet at night were so good! A new addition I loved this year was the fresh churros being fried each morning for breakfast, they were sooooooo good! Cant wait to be back next year!!!

Playa Pesquero: Fantastic resort!
We wanted to visit this resort for a long time and finally it happened in March 2025. We did not regret it, this is definitely one of the most interesting and most beautiful resorts in Cuba. The only complaint goes to the rooms, which would need to be renovated and the sleeping mattresses replaced. Also, the air conditioners feel damp and in some rooms they don't work. But it is easy to change the room with the help of friendly staff. Everything else, the beach, pools, staff, service, cocktails are at a high level. What I have to emphasize is the extraordinary food and the effort of the chefs and staff to please us despite all the difficulties and shortages that Cuba is facing. We will definitely come back at the first opportunity!

Playa Pesquero: Top Knotch Resort
This being my first time to Playa Presquero it was a amazing time, exactly what I needed. As someone with a disability and traveling solo, I decided to upgrade to Luxury rooms for not much money extra. It was well worth it. With Luxury you get a personal team(butler's)that takes care of you. You need a ride around the resort call they will personally pick you up from your room and drop you off anywhere you want on the resort. If your sick/drunk/lazy they will bring food to your room for free. You get 50% off of spa the price was so good I had a massage almost everyday. The staff and the masseuse were a 10 out of 10, they say they have a cold shower but it is Cuba cold shower, I would call it a cool shower. You get one romantic beach dinner for free of lobster, steak, pork, chicken and sides dishes cooked to perfection, you can also pay a small price to go any night you would like, again the price was so good, I decided if I wasn't at a a la carte I was eating there. You get 50% of laundry service, so I got them to wash my clothes, no laundry when I got back home from trip amazing, at way less of a price than I expected. You get a free bottle of rum which would cost atleast $50. Beer, juice and water stocked in your fridge everyday. The butlers brings desert to your room every night. The butler staff was amazing they went above and beyond the service I expected, there attention to details and customer service was incredible 10 out of 10. I have been to cuba 4 times this is the first all inclusive I've been to that is truly wheelchair accessible. I will definitely be back with my family. The front desk also had amazing customer service 10 out of 10. I would like to say a special thanks to the butler's Junior, Leandro, Alex

Playa Pesquero: Great resort
The resort was great, staffs were friendly . Beach is beautiful and clean. There wasn't much shows or activities during our 7days stayed sadly. Food: there are lot of foods but some were good, some were blanc. Not much of fruits there, seems like they feed us what available from their growth. So we have papaya, pineapple , mango and some can fruits daily. Pool: pool there is for dipping, not swimming since they are only 1meter deep :). The room: even if this was state as 5 stars hotel. It's only look like 2.5- 3 stars as international hotel standard. Keep in mind: DO NOT exchange Cuba peso money. But bring lot of $1 usd bill and usd for tips or purchase gifts, everything here price on usd . Location: It;s about 1hr drive from the airport

Playa Pesquero: Great resort & Beautiful beach.
Playa pesquero is a beautiful resort. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The resort is massive and can probably accomodate 1000+ people. There is a good deal of walking. 2-7 mins from hotel room to beach for example depending on where your room is. As always with Cuba, you have to go with the flow for the food since there are always shortages. For example we had eggs for the first half of the vacation. Otherwise the food was good and you won't starve. Ice cream everyday, pasta, hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken pork and fish, etc. The beach here is especially beautiful. The water is not turbulent sue to where the beach is located which is great to swim in. You can snorkel ok one side of the beach and see many beautiful fish. The staff were all very nice. This is our 2nd time here and we will definitely be back. Note the bus ride is about 1 hour to get here, but it goes by quickly.

In October 2023 there was not enough food, now we were never hungry, we could always choose something. There was a lot of fruit. There were not always eggs, but without them we could choose pancakes, pasta... Thanks to the people working at the hotel, we know how difficult it is for food in Cuba now, it’s difficult to feed families, but we believe that everything will be fine after some time. After all, difficult times always pass. April 3-17.

The children’s program in the evenings was extremely loud and should begin and end earlier. Many times my group were having conversation and the volume made it difficult.

Playa Pesquero: Great beach for sunning & walking
Cuba's greatest asset is its people, always smiling & friendly even with language limitations. Lots of places to eat but similar food choices at all locations. Even with some food shortages, impossible to go hungry... I gained 7lbs in 1 week. Room was large but no water view.

Playa Pesquero: Premium is well worth the extra!
We had a nice visit to Playa Pesquero Premium. The rooms were spacious and clean, the outdoor shower was an addictive treat and the large deck with daybed was used frequently. The food at the two premium restaurants was the best at the full resort. Food shortages were more evident in the main resort (bread, potatoes, butter were most notable). We had eggs daily. The drinking water was good. The nightly entertainment at the main theatre has gone downhill but there was lots of other entertainment throughout the resort, lots of good music. We went to the disco one night- was fun. The beach is fabulous and we always found lots of chairs and shade in the premium section of the beach. One thing to be mindful of- this resort is 80% French Canadians so if you don't speak French you might find it a bit challenging. The staff everywhere are amazing humans who provided us with great service. We took American dollars for tips which was appreciated (they can't use Canadian coins).

Playa Pesquero: Playa Pesquero
I was there Feb 27 to March 2 2024. I had been there years before in 2006. I met many people who have returned year after year ! The rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. The food was fine there were big differences between 2006 on the quality. There was a lot of variety and I loved the pasta stir fry bar each day and the fresh squeezed juice. We had our own brown bread , honey and butter, plus, I took Montreal steak spice as it helps to perk up some of the dishes. Bottled water was available, however, one day wee were asking for some .. that day I drank fruit juice or didn’t get what I needed. I was lucky to learn about the “ gala”, a dinner for repeat customers-it was lovely ! The resort is huge and a trolly is needed to get around to the beach and some restaurants. We could not get into 2 restaurants we wanted - I understand repeat customers have more luck and $ help and they are air conditioned. The Romantica and the Italian one. Overall, it was lovely to get away . I will probably try a smaller resort next time, one that is easy to walk to the beach. I love Cuba, the people are beautiful and appreciate our gifts. I did exchange a lot of there $ and loonies and toonies for crisp no creased bills. I did get eaten by no - see- ums ugh, so take bug stuff ! .. overall it was a long overdue get away ..

Playa Pesquero: Lovely resort and beautiful beach
We enjoyed the resort itself and the beach was beautiful. It is quite large and spread out. The grounds and buildings were well kept and facilities were clean (public washrooms were kept clean and supplied with toilet paper). For the most part the staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach is beautiful and you can go snorkeling close to shore or enjoy larger quantities of fish further out in the water. It's nice to do as many a-la-carte restaurants as you can although the buffet with the pasta, omelet and other stations was good. We didn't notice any shortages of food or liquor except for condiments. We enjoyed the coffee bar and the lobby where a variety of musicians and entertainers shared their talents with us. One thing that was very noticeable, more than some resorts, was the differences in service, at times, depending on what color bracelet you had. We appreciated the hotel setting us up for an additional night as our plane was delayed.

Playa Pesquero: Amazing Beach!!!
Pros - Beach was beautiful. The ocean so clear. Zero Seaweed. Loved the beach. The people are super nice and the resort was very clean. The resort offered free non-motorized water sports. Which was awesome! Cons- had to wake up early to reserve your lounger. We are non smokers and I think we were the only ones. The smell of cigarette smoke was everywhere. The rooms where okay....run down a bit (at least in our room). Curtains was half on half off, the bathroom mirror had permit marks on it so it was hard to see yourself...rust around the taps in the tub. The resort did a good job with the food shortages. We never went without but at the same time the food was very plain.

Playa Pesquero: Far from a 5 Star resort even for Cuba, but still enjoyable!
Positives: The beach is stunning with clear blue waters and awesome water sports. Paddle boats, kayaks, and windsails are available. The soft, white sand beach is perfect for long walks. Despite needing repairs, the pools are still enjoyable. The boulevard with its Beer Garden, shops, and restaurants is well-kept. Entertainment options are decent. Negatives: Rooms are run-down with moldy bathrooms, broken doors, and stained fixtures. Cleanliness is lacking, with towels and sheets showing wear and stains. Getting poolside seats requires early morning trips to the pool or beach. Travel Tips: Pack essentials like condiments, snacks, and bathroom supplies. Bring sunscreen and medication as local pharmacies might only have leftover meds. Use clean bills for tipping, as marked ones are unusable. Consider exchanging new bills for Canadian or Euro coins as a thoughtful gesture. Far from a 5 Star resort even for Cuba, but still enjoyable!

Playa Pesquero: Very relaxing trip
Our holiday to Playa was great. The resort is safe and beautiful, lots of winding pools with palm trees everywhere. The beach was perfect and swimming in the ocean was easy and fun, the resort is in a large cove and was never too wavy to swim. The dining was just ok, there is an egg shortage in Cuba but there was always lots of other food, bread and pastry, we definitely didn’t go hungry! This is our 2nd visit there and I hope to go next year with the whole family and maybe stay longer!

The worst is the staff not replenishing our bottled water..and after asking sooo many times..we went 3 days before the kind pool bartender give us his bottled water . Not a resort we will return to.As for Sunwing..very disappointed charging people who went for the Superior upgrades..knowing these items are not available ...Customers should be refunded..as of course the 3 hour delay in our flight home.. Playa Pesquero: Amazing resort
The resort was massive! So much walking! Our experience was absolutely amazing! The first night we arrived at night, the room we were given was a bit far from the beach and it had a strong humidity smell; we told them about it and they accommodated us and switched our room to an absolutely great room closer to the beach and pool since we had 2 kids. The resort was super clean, the beach is absolutely wonderful, plenty of lounge chairs and space and the reefs for snorkeling was just an amazing experience for the adults and the kids alike! The cleaning staff was just great, the friendliness of the staff in the restaurants, the entertainment staff was so great, we didn’t miss a show and the kids entertainment was so good the kids couldn’t wait for 8:30 every night to go to the show! They even have a daycare for the kids and the staff is absolutely wonderful! (via and Thalia!) my kids didn’t want to leave when I came to pick them up the 2 days they went! The doctors on site is wonderful, and the entire medical staff at the resort… the only thing I have is that the water kind of smelled and one day there was no bottled water - and that’s no fault of the resort, and the food isn’t really the best but thats a “Cuba” thing too and no fault of the resort… I cannot wait to go back! Totally recommend it!

Playa Pesquero: Fantastic Resort and amazing trip
This resort was fantastic, very clean, great staff always willing to help and make your stay the best possible. The beach was fantastic, awesome watersports always available for your pleasure. The room was very nice and cleaned everyday with fresh supplies, our cleaning staff were amazing! We were warned before our trip that we might experience shortages and we were expecting to be without many items according to some reviews we read on Cuba. I can honestly tell you that there was some shortages but nothing to be worried about. I wish that there would have been maybe more choices in the buffet, more fruit and veggies but there was still lots to choose from and it was pretty good so we never went hungry. The a la carte restaurants were wonderful, we had lobster twice nice grilled steak and chicken with salads so no complaints there for us, we really enjoyed the meals. Where we experienced the worse shortages was the lack of bottled water use at most of the bars. The filtered water they were using had a smell and taste that we did not like at all so we adjusted and enjoyed drinks that were made with soda or beers and wine, We just stayed away from drinks made with the filtered water like their juices . The coffee bar was amazing! we enjoyed all different types of coffees and we especially enjoyed the ice coffees (Yum). Overall for the state this country is in and the shortages they are experiencing this resort did a fantastic job of stick handling these concerns and made the best of it. I have no complaints and would return to this resort for sure. I would give this resort a solid 4 star and can only expect better if they can have their supply chains opened up so they have no constraints on what they can provide. I hope they keep up the level of service as this was the most obvious plus that made this resort fantastic. Keep up the great work! C & J.

Playa Pesquero: Mediocre Resort
Our first room was unacceptable, we had asked to be close to our friends, it took us two days to change have it changed. Both rooms were rundown, they required maintenance. There was no hot water, it was luke warm at best. The shower head leaked and water squirted everywhere. There was a leak in the ceiling on the second last day, and soaked the floor. None of the plugs for sinks, bedet etc., worked. The phone didn't work, the internet (wifi) was very weak at best. We understand the embargos on food, however, there was not a lot of variety and tasteless. There was no white wine anywhere to be had. Even the a la carte's left a lot to be desired, except for the Gondola. IT was good. The entertainment was very disappionting. The staff at reception was very unattentive and didn't seem to be interested in resolving any issues, we had to return a number of times, and finally speak to the manager twice. The men's washrooms were not working most of the time in the lobby, and we had to use the women's washroom resulting in a unisex situation. It was very long travel days, almost 11-16 hours due to delays. It was a long way to go to have a mediocre vacation. The grounds, pool and beach were beautiful.

The staff make this hotel, we met so many repeat guests. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Then I asked other guests why they returned it was always the same answer, the staff. The hotel is very clean and the beds comfortable. The pool is amazing and the beach is awesome. There is always plenty to see and do day and night. The only downside was the food, this year the entire island is in a food shortage crisis. There was always plenty but the selection was very limited and most of the meat was in stew type recipes. Was it edible, YES. Could you always find something to eat that tasted good YES. They tried their best under very difficult circumstances. Would I go back YES THEY ARE LIKE FAMILY HERE. Before you go remember this: You have to remember that you are in a communist country and do not expect the things that you would get from a non communist country.

Playa Pesquero: Cuba's best foot forward
This was our 3rd visit to Playa Pesquero since 2019. Cuba is experiencing supply chain issues at the moment, but the resort has used ingenuity to provide a quality experience for it's customers. For example, paper napkins have been cut in quarters then re-folded, pinã coladas are only available at the main bar, and tequila has been replaced with locally made Black Tears. Top shelf scotch and other hard liquor are served all day. The barista was very popular every morning. Fresh beer and water were supplied in our room daily. The entertainment was organic with musicians performing in public areas throughout the day. Unfortunately, this resort isn't renowned for cabaret entertainment, so the large amphitheater is mostly used for kids shows and audience participation events. There were also DJ events and aquafit sessions each day. Internet has been vastly improved since our last visit with free wifi available in many public spaces and as we were told, in room wifi had just been launched and ours was the first building to get it! The wifi is not seamless though. You will have to reconnect each time you change locations which requires prompting to log in again with your stored password. The RTTP was slow with a slight audio/video delay when talking on WhatsApp. Avoid using your phone because you'll be charged by the minute. The beach has many areas shaded by trees where you can stake a claim each day, but you have to get out there early. Because of the density of guests, your valuables are relatively safe unattended. Unfortunately, my snorkeling equipment and towels were stolen after we forgot them at the pool overnight. (This theft was definately done by guests and not staff because our beach bag and a hat were left behind.) There are catamarans available for guided sessions, as well as peddle boats, wind surfers, paddle boards and a laser for individual sailing. (After I capsized the laser, staff motored out to me to help right the boat and help me in. Unfortunately I took too long to catch the wind so they tied along side and dragged my boat back to shore against my wishes. Back at shore, the supervisor graciously apologized and invited me to come back for a sail the next day.) Occassional tipping is important. The salary for these employees is typically around $35 per month, and way below a living wage. Employees almost never request tips openly, but always graciously accept them. Do everybody a favor and bring lots of US $1 bills in good condition. Loonie, Toonie, Pence and Euro coins are useless to them. Employees often ask guests to exchange coins for hard currency which can be traded or deposited in a bank. Employees are also very happy to receive costume jewelry, clothing items, small gadgets, toiletries and medicine as tips, since these items are very hard to come by for Cubans. We didn't use the spa facilities due to time constraints but I did find out that I could get my teeth cleaned by a certified dentist for US $50 at the pharmacia. Overall, our experience was positive. Cubans are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. As the supply chain issues resolve, I expect that services will return to what I've usually experienced.

Playa Pesquero: 2 star at best
The beach was beautiful, pool good. Coffee bar was fantastic (coffees were great and service fantastic). Food was 1 out of 10 at the buffet (bland, limited ingredients). A la carte - some were better than others but glad they were better than buffet - 4 out of 10. Rooms old and dated, rust in bath tub, water in shower not always warm. Lights didn’t all work in the room. Key card needed recoding numerous times daily. Plugs were falling out of the outlets. Service at Carabena terrible. Housekeeping not good - didn’t replace shampoo / toilet paper when empty and it didn’t look like washroom cleaned daily.

Playa Pesquero: Love this resort!
This was my third time and my husband's 4th time to this resort. We love it. There is an abundance of choices of places to eat. Even if you are picky there is something. The bartenders are great and if they are out something they will find something you like. The resort itself is 20+ years old so there are few things that are showing age but they are constantly working to update and maintain with limited resources. The rooms are showing this and are dated but clean. The staff are amazing and will get things sorted out as soon as possible if there is any issues. The beach, where do I even start?! The beach is amazing. The soft sand and amazing blue turquoise water! If you like snorkeling there is many options with some gorgeous curious fish. Blue, yellow, big, small. The pool is great as well. Again showing wear but they are working on updating the tiles on the pool deck. There is multiple options for shade at both the beach and the pool.

Do not go to this hotel or Cuba in general. Lack of food, very difficult to find nutritional food to eat anywhere in the hotel, no eggs/chicken only pork and burnt beef, ppl were sick with GI issues, pool dirty, ppl smoked all over the property including balconies, shops did not have alternatives for food, no gift shops, rooms are very worn and tired looking, torn bed sheets, shampoo/soaps not restocked, 1 toilet roll per room, and birds roosting/pooping in the lobby. Airport awful!! Watch your passport/ boarding g pass. My boarding pass was stolen while it went through the security scanner! Yes, within a 3’ machine. Playa Pesquero: Very Nice Resort Given the Circumstances
Everything at the resort was well prepared. They are suffering though due to the country's state of affairs. The resort only had eggs one day out of seven. According to the locals this was because the county's current leader is diverting all funds to the military and there is nothing left for non essentials. No one in Cuba wants anything to do with Cuban Pesos so don't believe the travel websites (including this one) when they say Cuba's currency is Pesos. They only want Canadian or US currency in bills (no coins).Even the currency exchange booths at the resort and airport won't take it. The currency exchange websites say 1 Canadian dollar = approx 17 Cuban Pesos but in reality if you try to use it at a market thay want at least 150 Pesos in eqivelent to 1 dollar. We did enjoy the resort. It is well laid out. The help is very friendly. In fact our daughter is contimplating going back in April with a friend. I recommend taking a 2 hour horse and buggy taxi excursion from a local. They will take you places you wouldn't normally see and our driver only wanted $25 for the three of us. We gave him $100 because of the excellent effort he made, the time spent, and he was training a new driver.

Playa Pesquero: Wonderful Family Holiday
This resort did not disappoint. The beach was perfect - a somewhat sheltered bay with sandy beach and some rocky areas to snorkel. Hobe Cats and Pedal Boats were great! Hotel was well maintained and staff were wonderful. Grandkids (14-5 yrs) loved the sports area, ice cream hut, and 24hr snack bar (especially the cheese balls). It is Cuba - so if you are picky about food - bring your own condiments and necessities. Staff did a wonderful job of offering as much variety as they could with what they have available. If you drink gin and tonic - bring your own. Worst part of vacation was rude guests who felt they were more important than anyone else, and thought they should be able to get everything they could at home! By far this is the best resort we have stayed at in Cuba in our 6 visits. Bring bug spray - you don't see them but they leave itchy bites, and a face cloth or loofah. Daughter & Son brought instant oatmeal (without milk) for one picky eater and peanut butter for another. If you like 'snack foods' and 'candy' bring those as well. Massage was worth the money!! One area of improvement would be Theatre Shows - other resorts have had better shows.

Playa Pesquero: Great Vacation
The property is on a beautiful beach, has a large maintained pool with areas for a quieter poolside or closer to activities and bar. Gym, sports area, spa, clinic, stores, hair/nail salon, cigar bar & bank onsite (I’m forgetting all the amenities). The staff are phenomenal and there’s always some sort of programming going on. Food is plentiful and good. Buffet has lots of ingredients that vary based on season and availability but not a lot of packaged food/seasonings so if you are particular bring a bottle of sauce, or syrup for pancakes if you have kids, and leave it with the staff when you checkout. There is a 24 hour snack bar as well as restaurants, many open for lunch but require dinner reservations. Bring some small bills and loonie/toonies if you want to tip, staff will be looking to trade in their coins for larger crisp bills for use at their bank. Overall we had a great vacation, I would definitely return.

My girlfriend who is vegetarian was worried about the food selection at thr resort but they were extremely accommodating in fulfilling her dietary needs at all the reservation restaurants and made the experience even better. The beach is incredible with white sand throughout with an option for great snorkeling. The nightly entertainment was lacking but still great with the circumstances that arose after covid. I will be returning here and will only be going to this resort for now on. It's worth it to spend the extra money to turn your trip from a good trip to a great trip and go to this resort.

The beach is amazing, and there is a lot of shade under the palapas and trees, no need to wake up early to save chairs or palapas. The ocean was picture perfect, with turquoise, crystal clear and warm water. Beach towels are always available! We didn’t spend much time at the pool because we are beach lovers, but the Canada celebration at the main pool was a great party, with a live band, drinks and so much fun! We made tons of friends at Playa Pesquero and we would have loved to party more and dance after dinner, in the lobby, but there was not much entertainment for adults and kids at night, beside the show, between 8-11pm. Hopefully the management will think of this and add a night dancing scene. The breakfast was great, we ate mostly omelettes, pancakes, and fresh fruits in the morning. We didn’t really care for the food at the buffet for lunch and dinner (quite repetitive and not a great variety), but the a-la-carts were all amazing for dinner. For lunch, we ended up eating almost everyday at the place by the beach, on the patio. The food here is all great: pizza, fish, pork, beef, and chicken was available the second week we were there. The food at beer garden is also very good, their chicken tastes like KFC! Our 2 connected rooms we stayed in (top floor in building 11) were nice and large, with ice cold air conditioning and big balconies. Beautiful resort and, I have to repeat this, what makes this resort different from other resorts is all the amazing people that work here! All staff, from managers to gardeners, greet you, smile to you, ask if everything is okay, make you feel like home and like part of the big Playa Pesquero family! We brought gifts from Canada and tipped everyone because we wanted to show our appreciation for their hard work! They appreciate monetary tips, but cannot buy much with money in Cuba so please, if you’re going and have room in your luggage, bring gifts they can use: toothpaste, toothbrush, make-up, toys, baby stuff, toys, chips, sweets that don’t melt easily, Nutella, crackers, fishing stuff for the gardeners, etc. You can get more gift ideas by reading reviews on TripAdvisor website, if you want. We are in love with Playa Pesquero and highly recommended this resort!

Playa Pesquero: Amazing people!
This resort is a lovely big one with many different restaurants, places to sit with an espresso, plenty of chairs both at the pool and the beach and has great entertainment. My favourite thing about Cuba and this resort are the kind sweet people! The beaches, sea and sun are what draws me there but the kindness of the people are what brings me back time, time and again! From the wonderful ladies coming to clean the room, the staff at the front desk, the helpful person supporting with wifi, the towel people, all the staff in the restaurants, bars etc. all are so friendly and sweet. They chat and ask how the visit is going and if something is needed they are quick to rectify. Every time I requested a drive to the front desk or a restaurant the driver was there in less than 5 mins and cheerfully drove me where I needed to go. I would definitely recommend this resort to others!!

Playa Pesquero: Amazing as always
After three long years of not going back to Cuba, I finally decided to go back. At first, I was reluctant in returning since knowing how things are in Canada, employees don’t usually stay for a long time at the same place. To my pleasant surprise, 90% of the employees are the same as before. Not one day went by that I did not have people with beautiful smiles greeting me. Time after time, I return to this hotel with nothing but good things to say. The staff is absolutely amazing. There is plenty of food and drinks. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Special thanks to public relations team for my new rock:)  I’ve been to this hotel approximately 20 times now and I can honestly tell you that the team at Playa Pesquero is dedicated to always making your vacation spectacular. The best bartender by far is the lady at the Mojito bar who makes an absolutely amazing piña colada! The staff at Italian and Romantico are absolutely amazing and accommodating. Get ready to see me again in October! I was so pleased with my vacation that upon my return to Canada, I booked a package for my father for him to go experience his first vacation in Cuba at this hotel. To my friends, Ailen Martinez, Barbara Hasty, Katerina Calderon, Lianet Rosado Cruz, Luis Enriques Frias, Marieta Dieguez, Oniel Rodriguez, I just want to say, Thank you! M
