Start your safari adventure with an afternoon game drive. - Day 3 SHABA Arid AwakeningMorning and afternoon game drives plus free time at your lodge. Due to the dry climate, the grasses are sparse, making animals easier to spot. The Ewaso Ng'iro River borders the reserve, providing a year-round water supply. These two factors make for a great game viewing experience! Visit a Samburu Village to learn about their customs, attire, dance, and daily life. The Samburu are closely related to the Maasai but have distinct customs, language, and dress. Sundowner drinks in the bush are served prior to returning to your lodge for dinner. - Day 4 SHABA-OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY Wonderful Weavers & Wildlife Sanctuaries Depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and home to the last two northern white rhinos and over 165 critically endangered black rhinos. En route, stop at Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a project aimed at building sustainable livelihoods for local women through social and economic activities. After lunch, visit the [LF] Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary, then set out for an afternoon game drive. (B,L,D)LOCAL FAVORITESMALL GROUP EXCLUSIVE Learn more about the plight of chimpanzees and the great work being done for their welfare during a visit to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute, the sanctuary offers a long-term home to orphaned and abused chimpanzees--a moving example of wildlife conservation for future generations. "The Mara," as it is called by locals, is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and boasts a strong permanent population of game. When the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra arrives, typically from August to early November, their population grows by almost 2 million, providing a bountiful food source for predators such as lions, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. After lunch at your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive.(B,L,D)
- Day 8 MAASAI MARA Magical MaraMorning and afternoon game drives plus free time to relax at your camp. Be sure to watch for elephant, rhino, giraffe, topi, hyena, and much more. Notes: The Great Migration is a natural event with herds typically in the Maasai Mara from August to early November. Movements and river crossings of migrating herds can be challenging to predict year to year. When possible, we'll modify game viewing when advised of reported sightings. All game viewing is done at your own risk and requires a signed liability waiver prior to travel. Due to rough driving on/off road and in/between game parks, this vacation is not recommended for guests with serious back problems or mobility issues. The safari vehicles are not air conditioned and have high ground clearance, requiring some agility when getting in and out.Some internal flights have a strict maximum guest weight limit of 265 lbs. / 120 kgs.
