  • Day 1 ARRIVE IN NAIROBI, KENYA   Your Small Group Discovery tour begins! Welcome to Nairobi, gateway to your dream safari. Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in.

  • Day 2 NAIROBI-SHABA NATIONAL RESERVE   Shaba Special Drive north out of the city to Shaba National Reserve, home to the "Special 5," a collection of unique animals, including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk. Start your safari adventure with an afternoon game drive. Enjoy a 2-night stay at the Sarova Shaba Game Lodge, nestled within the tranquail oasis of the National Reserve.

    TOUR HIGHLIGHT
    NATURAL WONDERS Listen for a symphony of bird calls at the Shaba National Reserve. More than 350 recorded species including the vibrant vulturine guinea fowl and gray crowned crane reside in Shaba. Look low for the Kori bustard, the largest flying bird native to Africa.

  • Day 3 SHABA   Arid Awakening Morning and afternoon game drives plus free time at your lodge. Due to the dry climate, the grasses are sparse, making animals easier to spot. The Ewaso Ng'iro River borders the reserve, providing a year-round water supply. These two factors make for a great game viewing experience! Visit a Samburu Village to learn about their customs, attire, dance, and daily life. The Samburu are closely related to the Maasai but have distinct customs, language, and dress. Sundowner drinks in the bush are served prior to returning to your lodge for dinner.

  • Day 4 SHABA-OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY   Wonderful Weavers & Wildlife Sanctuaries Depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and home to the last two northern white rhinos and over 165 critically endangered black rhinos. En route, stop at Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a project aimed at building sustainable livelihoods for local women through social and economic activities. After lunch, visit the [LF] Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary, then set out for an afternoon game drive.

    SMALL GROUP EXCLUSIVE Learn more about the plight of chimpanzees and the great work being done for their welfare during a visit to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute, the sanctuary offers a long-term home to orphaned and abused chimpanzees--a moving example of wildlife conservation for future generations. For the welfare of the chimps who call the sanctuary home, our small group visits are broken into groups of six, also affording a more personal visit for our guests.

  • Day 5 OL PEJETA-LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK   Natural Highs Morning game drive in Ol Pejeta. Then, journey through the beautiful Kenyan highlands, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in all of Africa. Stop at the dramatic Nyahururu Falls before continuing to Lake Nakuru National Park. Settle into your lodge prior to dinner and gaze at the lush landscape from your private patio or open-air lounge.

  • Day 6 LAKE NAKURU   At the Water's Edge Your morning game drive includes an exclusive [LF] bush breakfast at Baboon Cliffs. Keep your eyes out for giraffe, impala, flamingo, striped hyena, and a variety of birdlife along the water's edge. Free time at your lodge before an afternoon game drive.

  • Day 7 LAKE NAKURU-MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE   Jewel of Kenya This morning, depart for Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya's most famous game area. "The Mara," as it is called by locals, is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and boasts a strong permanent population of game. When the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra arrives, typically from August to early November, their population grows by almost 2 million, providing a bountiful food source for predators such as lions, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. After lunch at your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive. As part of Globus family of brands Lighthouse Project, your visit contributes to Wildlife Conservation Network's Lion Recovery Fund, aimed at recovering the lion population in Africa.

  • Day 8 MAASAI MARA   Magical Mara Morning and afternoon game drives plus free time to relax at your camp. Be sure to watch for elephants, rhino, giraffe, topi, hyena, and much more. Tonight, a [LF] farewell dinner in the bush features a traditional Maasai dance performance.

Your beachfront resort for the next 3-nights offers expansive views of the Indian Ocean from your private patio and includes meals and a variety of entertainment and activities. (B,D)

  • Day 10 MOMBASA   Old Town Treasures and Beachside Leisures Visit Old Town with a Local Guide. This historic, narrow-street neighborhood, showcases Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese architectural influences. See key sights including the 16th-century Fort Jesus (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Old Port, and vibrant spice markets. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and a bit of free time to shop for antiques, textiles, and jewelry. Return to the hotel for a free afternoon and evening. (B,L,D)

  • Day 11 MOMBASA   Life's a Beach! Let the hours drift as you wander between the resort's inviting activities, indulge in flavorful cuisine at charming restaurants and bars, or simply bask in the warm coastal sun by the pool or along the whispering shore.   • Day 12 MOMBASA-NAIROBI   Kwaheri, Africa! After breakfast, return to Mombasa airport for a flight to Nairobi, where a day room is reserved at the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport hotel for your convenience. Schedule departing flights after 5 pm. (B)

Notes: The Great Migration is a natural event with herds typically in the Maasai Mara from August to early November. Movements and river crossings of migrating herds can be challenging to predict year to year. When possible, we'll modify game viewing when advised of reported sightings. All game viewing is done at your own risk and requires a signed liability waiver prior to travel. Due to rough driving on/off road and in/between game parks, this vacation is not recommended for guests with serious back problems or mobility issues. The safari vehicles are not air conditioned and have high ground clearance, requiring some agility when getting in and out.Some internal flights have a strict maximum guest weight limit of 265 lbs. / 120 kgs. Any guests weighing more than the limit may be required to purchase an additional seat.
