About Galapagos Islands Tours

Galapagos tours rank high on many a bucket list. A remote archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, approximately 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, Galapagos tours will offer a collection of 19 islands, 13 large and six small.

You’ll find lots of unique wildlife in the Islands, including flightless cormorants, marine iguanas (the only lizard to swim in the ocean) and domed giant tortoises. Galapagos was home to the only surviving giant Pinta tortoise, 'Lonesome George.' Unfortunately, he passed away in June 2012 at approximately 90 years of age. Because they’ve been isolated from the mainland for so many years, most of the rare species you’ll find here show no fear of humans, allowing you to enjoy an up close and personal experience with them.

Wildlife tourism is tightly controlled due to the increasingly high number of tourists now visiting this “once in a life time destination.” In 1959, the Government of Ecuador declared all uninhabited areas of Galapagos to be a national park. The Galapagos National Park Service is the primary government authority, safeguarding the islands' natural resources.

Visitors can tour Galapagos year round.  There are two primary seasons here, the dry season, offering more sun from June to December, and the warm season, which tends to be more tropical in nature bringing daily rain. Peak travel season—when most tourists plan their Galapagos tours—is between June and September.

Santa Cruz, the most populated island, is home to the Darwin Research Center. Scientists from all over the world spend time in the Galapagos conducting biological research. In fact, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was inspired by the vast array of wildlife in Galapagos.
