About Lithuania Tours

The “Scent of Lithuania” is the country’s national perfume- it’s the only country in the world that has one!

The official currency is Lithuanian litas.

The country’s official name is “The Republic of Lithuania” and residents speak “Lithuania.”

Easter Granny brings chocolate to children at Easter, bunnies only help her.

During the 14th century, Lithuania was the largest European country.

Why go on a Lithuania Tour?

The oldest and largest of the three Baltic States, Lithuania is a country with a long-standing tradition. Its capital and largest city, Vilnius, has a strong art community and plenty of natural treasures.  But besides that, Vilnius is heavily rooted in the country’s history.  You may walk around the monumental Old Town streets, visit the abundance of churches, and learn about the country’s heritage. The sculpture-filled St. Peter and St. Paul baroque church and the neo-classical Cathedral are delightful sights.  Not to mention the picturesque castles: Gediminas’ Tower built by Prince Gediminas in 1323 and the majestic medieval Trakai Castle built on an island during the 15th century.  The Jesuit University and KGB Museum (located in the former KGB headquarters) are both historic reminders.  You may also visit the city of Siauliai to witness the Votive Hill of Crosses, a shrine built by Catholic pilgrims that acts as a present-day symbol of Soviet resistance.

When is the best time to go?

June to August is the best time for a Lithuania Tour because of the many festivals and warm weather for walking.  Summer months have a charming appeal because of the outdoor lounging, café patios and the ability to explore the small cities by foot.  Boat rides to Trakai Island are lovely, and visitors can swim in the surrounding lakes. July temperatures in Vilnius average 22°C but you may experience some rain and humidity.  January temperatures average -6°C and can get even colder, but imagine skating on ice-rinks and seeing snow-covered castle-tops!
