About New Zealand Tours

New Zealand is comprised of the North and South Islands.

The North Island

The North Island is home to more than 75 percent of the country’s population. This is where you’ll find big-city entertainment, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. But it’s not all metropolitan on the North Island—you’ll also find some of the country’s most beautiful beaches here.

Wellington is the official capital of New Zealand. It’s also known as the Art Capital of New Zealand.

Here you can enjoy a ride along the cable cars, visit some well-known museums, and even stop in at the Wellington Zoo.

Further north, closer to Auckland, you’ll discover the city of Rotorua, where you’ll uncover the history of the local New Zealanders, known as the Maori. Here you’ll also see geysers and boiling mud pools. And be sure to check out the active volcanoes at Tongariro National Park and White Island.

The South Island

The South island offers lots of cool stuff for adventure travellers. Queenstown is often referred to as the “Adventure Capital of the World.” For the adrenaline junkie in us all, you can try hot air ballooning, hang gliding and jet boating! Plus, you can go bungy jumping at the very place where bungy jumping began!

The South Island is home to 14 national parks, making it a wonderful destination to enjoy some other outdoorsy adventures, including fishing, boating and hiking. In the winter months, skiers and snowboarders are drawn to the snow-topped peaks of the Southern Alps. Remember, winter months are opposite to North America, so double check your calendar when booking your tour of New Zealand!

It generally takes a few weeks to experience a tour of New Zealand in its entirety—especially if you plan to see both the North and South Islands. Quick tip: you’ll enjoy the most pleasant temperatures from September through May.

When you’re ready to learn more about our New Zealand tours, start by launching the Tour Finder, which allows you to compare all tours quickly and easily. Select your desired date range and choose up to three different cities, and our tour finder will show you the best matches.
