Torremolinos is one of the original Costa del Sol resort towns and, despite decades of popularity, it remains one of the most straightforward and satisfying beach destinations available from Canada. Situated just 12 kilometres southwest of Malaga on Andalusia's sun-drenched southern coast, it offers something the Caribbean cannot: a genuine Spanish town with its own history, food culture and neighbourhood character sitting directly behind some of the finest sandy beaches in Mediterranean Europe. Our Torremolinos packages from Canada are designed for independent travellers: you get flights + hotels + transfers in a single booking, but you explore on your own schedule.
Departure airports: most package flight options are built around departures from Toronto and Montreal, connecting through a European hub to Malaga Airport (AGP). Malaga is a major international airport with strong connections from across Europe, making onward routing straightforward. From the airport, Torremolinos is just 12 kilometres away — a short taxi ride or a direct train connection. Other Canadian gateways are priced using connecting flights. If you do not see your city listed, please call us as we can price it even if it is not shown on our website.
Popular itineraries
Torremolinos works best as a beach-and-town base for travellers who want a relaxed, uncomplicated holiday with genuine Spanish character. The town itself has several distinct sections: the central area around Calle San Miguel (a lively pedestrian strip lined with bars and restaurants), the traditional fishing village of La Carihuela to the west (the best neighbourhood for seafood and a quieter pace), and the beach promenade that runs the length of Playamar to the east.
For travellers who want to combine beach time with sightseeing, Malaga is 20 minutes by train and offers a compact, rewarding city: the Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba fortress, the Roman Theatre and an excellent food market. Marbella is 45 minutes by bus and worth a half-day for its historic old town and Puerto Banus marina. The hill town of Mijas Pueblo is 30 minutes inland and offers a well-preserved whitewashed Andalusian village with sweeping coastal views.
Where to stay (examples)
- Playamar and the town centre: the main resort strip, most hotels and apartment complexes, busy beach and easy access to the Calle San Miguel shopping and nightlife district. Best for travellers who want to be in the middle of the action.
- La Carihuela: the original fishing village neighbourhood to the west of the centre, quieter and more authentic, with the best concentration of seafood restaurants and a less commercial feel. The beach here is narrower but less crowded.
- El Bajondillo: between the centre and the old town, a good middle ground with direct beach access, closer to the train station and well-suited to travellers who want easy day-trip access to Malaga and the coast.
- Los Alamos: the quieter eastern end of the Torremolinos beachfront, bordering Benalmadena. Lower-rise hotels, a more relaxed atmosphere and a good choice for families.
Weather and the Costa del Sol beach reality
The Costa del Sol earns its name. Torremolinos averages over 300 days of sunshine per year and has one of the most reliable beach climates in Europe. Unlike the Caribbean, the Mediterranean coast here has a genuine long season running from April through October, with warm temperatures on either end that make spring and autumn genuinely comfortable rather than marginal.
Ocean temperatures in the Mediterranean off the Costa del Sol are warmer than the Atlantic but cooler than Caribbean waters: roughly 18 to 19°C in May, rising to 23 to 25°C in August and September. The water stays swimmable through October (around 21°C), which makes autumn a particularly attractive time to visit.
Typical temperatures:
- Spring (April to May): 18 to 23°C. Warm and sunny, beaches uncrowded, excellent for walking and day trips. Hotels at lower rates than peak summer.
- Summer (June to August): 26 to 34°C. Peak beach season. July and August are the busiest months with the warmest water. Book early for best hotel choice.
- September and October: 22 to 28°C. The best of both worlds — warm water, thinner crowds, lower prices and comfortable evening temperatures. A strong choice for Canadians.
- Winter (November to March): 13 to 17°C. Too cool for beach swimming but mild by Canadian standards. Good for walkers, golfers and travellers who just want warmth and sun.
