My husband and I recently stayed at Ocean Maya Royale (March 2026). It's a lovely resort, clean, staff are exceptional, we could always get chairs whether by the pools or ocean and the food was really good. They were very cognizant of my nut and gluten allergy and I still had a lot of choices when it came to food. Drinks were made well and the entertainment staff were excellent. We had a lot of fun without feeling crowded or overwhelmed. Excellent value for the price.

We enjoyed everything about this resort! The grounds are beautifully maintained and cared for! We ended up going to 3 of the specialty restaurants which were the Italian, Mexican and Blue Moon and the food was excellent! The food and choice in the Buffet was also great! The staff are amazing throughout the resort and really enhance the experience. Had a great time walking on the beach and loved the quiet pool area! All in all it was a fantastic experience and we are already looking to go back!

This was our 4th visit to Ocean Maya Royale, and it didn’t disappoint once we sorted out the room during check in. Last year when we left, we received a letter indicating a room upgrade if we came again within the year, which we did. When I inquired by email about what kind of upgrade we could expect and request certain locations on the property to stay, Luis indicated that "they would be happy to offer us a Privilege Junior Suite". We were surprised, but looked forward to a new experience. Upon arrival, I presented his email; and we were refused his offer. Additionally, the room location that was initially indicated was none of the buildings we requested. Not sure how the wires got crossed, but we were very disappointed. It did turn out well, as they did give us another building with an Oceanview upgrade and had a lovely 11 nights. It was just frustrating that a senior staff member would offer something that was not acknowledged upon our arrival.

Unfortunately what I experienced is not what the photos in the ads displayed. I had a ‘large’ leak in my ‘Privelege’ room which required 2 large bath towels in the middle of the night to deal with and 2 calls to my butler as the front desk did not answer the phone. It’s not a difficult repair - I moved into a 70 year old home that required major renovations - they just need to be done properly the first time. After the 2nd text to my butler, large paint chips on the floor & ceiling, and multiple emptying of the dehumidifier in the room I asked to be moved - they were accommodating. I would never make comments like this without photos for proof, of the room, the commentary with my butler and the difference between the actual Privilege area versus what can be seen in advertising photos. I was also disappointed when I went to the Japanese restaurant, advertised as ‘A la Carte’ but not given the option to order from the menu - as a solo guest - or sit with a crowd of strangers and watch a show I hadn’t intended to see. I was not informed before ordering a Sapporo that there was a charge (surprising as it is a Premium beer and Privilege guests are supposed to be entitled to Premium drinks) and guests should ALWAYS be told prior to ordering if there is an extra charge, when they are not given the courtesy of seeing a menu. What was supposed to be a special trip turned out to be disappointing and a lot of false advertising. This was definitely not a 5 star hotel or I would not have been sitting on plastic chairs for my ‘special dinner’.

Food and staff were very good. Rooms were clean, bathrooms were newly renovated. The only issue was the shower tiles were a slip hazard, there were no bars to hand onto. The grounds were nicely kept. Lots of wildlife. For me personally, I have a mobility issue that I can’t walk up or stairs without hanging on to a railing. There 5 steps higher than normal to get into my ground floor room. There was no railing, so I had to have help every time I went up or down. There were steps and very steep ramps going to the pool area, again, no railings. Had to have help. If anyone has mobility issues, this is not the Resort to go to. We will never go back, this being the worst vacation.

The grounds were well maintained. The resort is not really big so easy access to beach and pool. Dining was amazing at all the restaurants. The food was well presented and delicious. Servers and staff were beyond so friendly! Washrooms were well maintained! Check in/out process was really quick. Loved the ice cream shack and pizza shack right across the pool. Mexican restaurant across the pool had the best fish tacos. Only negatives I have was the continuous loud thumping music in the activity pool we could hear from the other pool. Also for older people they should consider steps to enter second quieter pool. One ladder had 2 rungs and the other had 3 rungs. The other end of the pool had a step down but still awkward to use. I noticed a few people young and older struggling to get in and out. Overall this place is amazing and definitely would consider coming back. I strongly would recommend this place!

The resort is very well maintained and very clean. The rooms are a really good size. The buffet had a great variety of foods. The quiet pool was clean , but we found it difficult to get a lounge chair. People take the chairs but we found they hardly used them. The party pool was very busy and there were lots of activities going on. the ala carte restaurants were very nice with the exception of the Italian restaurant. the bugs were bad. The beach was amazing and very little seaweed. We would definitely go back.

Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Food is also good. Breakfast buffet was highlight of the day. Beach was nice but we went in Seagrass season but they were doing their best to clean. There is always activities going on to make your stay more enjoyable.

Air Transat missed our arrival and didn't have a shuttle for us when we arrived. The team at the airport sorted this out in a friendly way, reassured us and found a transfer but it started off with us wondering if the resort knew we were coming. This is an older resort that has been well maintained. We do recommend and would return. Grounds are clean, beach cleaned daily, pool and food(great buffet options) is all close walking distance. Very friendly staff. Feedback for areas to improve for hotel is communication- We were told at check in that the buffet was open everyday over our 10 nights. Then they closed it Monday, Wednesday and Friday "unexpectedly" . The worst part is we only found out Monday when we arrived to eat at buffet at 6:30pm hungry - then were told we needed to wait for an a la carte option seat, they were busy. We specifically asked why it was closed and they just said the buffet was closed "just today" and no reason given "just tonight". We ended up eating very late due to this, but willing to let it go as we thought maybe they were doing deep cleaning or an equipment failure. Then on Wednesday the same thing happened ! No notice and it is clear they planned this for some time due to low occupancy. They do not seem to have any compassion for the guests time / planning and being hungry! Furthermore, we have allergies and then limited to only one option for a la carte. We were seated at 8pm and waited a long time for food. Other guests were only seated at 9pm and had showed up at 7:30pm and probably ate at 10pm. Guests were not happy. Your servers and hostesses should be commended on how well they tried to manage things. They were put into a situation that was obviously out of their control from hotel management. Friday we planned accordingly as another guest told us it would happen again. Thankfully the guest had told us! We made sure to be at the a la carte at 5:30pm to get 6pm seating so we weren't left to eat so late like the other 2 nights. We then ordered double steak as we can only eat the small starter salad as appetizers and cant eat dessert , they gave it to us and still friendly but is embarrassing and makes you feel a pig or greedy for steak & veggies but the portions are so small, we needed food to fill us. Maybe they put something on the hotel online app and that's how other guests knew - but no one checks the app unless you are privilege. There is no need for the app as you can not reserve a la carte restaurants unless you are privilege. over 80% are regular guests staying. Please consider sushi without cream cheese - a nice shrimp , avocado etc. Lastly the locals are permitted to sell their "goods" up around the pool bar and seen daily getting beer and food and friendly with the pool towel staff. No other resorts allow this and at other places security keeps them out on the beach. Of course, this is a touchy thing to complain about as we do not want any trouble in Mexico as it seems they are more than welcome. They come at the same time daily so, maybe set them up with a vendor table or have them wear uniforms like the massage people. All that said the small resort with such friendly staff , great buffet and cafe - we would recommend and would return.

We travelled to this resort March 16-23. Check in with Privilege was wonderful. Our room in the Privilege room was beautiful. We had a butler who looked after all of our dinner reservations. The food was very good. We had our own private beach and restaurant which was very convenient and quiet. The resort is small compared to other properties, so great for getting from place to place. There are steps leading up to the lobby, but there is a golf cart, if needed. All the employees were wonderful and helpful with any questions or concerns. The only glitch was the private transportation booked to and from the hotel and the 2 hour delay flying home. All was resolved. It was a very relaxing week.

Great Staff, facilities, and overall service. Very well maintained and tidy. We were quite pleased with our entire stay. I would say that we got very good value for the quality of the resort. The sand on the beach was amazing. The lounge chair availability was very good. Patrons were all very respectable.

This was our first time at this resort, and will definitely be going back. The people and service were amazing. The food was really good with a good selection in the buffet and the a la Carte were also good. Didn't eat at the Japanese so can't comment. The beach is a bit different but still nice and you can walk quite a way in either direction (do the lagoon tour). The grounds are very well kept and everywhere is spotlessly clean. The only thing I didn't like was having to line up for the ala Carte restaurants, its first come first serve unless you pay extra for "Privilege", I would rather be able to book like you do at most resorts. For the Japanese you had to line up at 5:45 to book the teppanyaki for that day.

This was my fourth stay at the Ocean Maya Royal I continue to return for several reasons. The resort has a lovely lay out. I prefer the smaller individual buildings with about 8 rooms per building, only two floors high. The grounds are kept well maintained and you will often see workers keeping things tidy and maintained. As an adults only resort I prefer it. You can choose between the younger crowd busier activity pool or the quieter one. There is a vendor on site several days a week plus the gift shop which means if you want a few souvenirs you don't have to go into Playa to go shopping. Having a choice of restaurants is really nice. The buffet is great with lots of good choices. This trip the restaurant down by the pool has changed from a daily buffet to a menu focus. It make sense as there was probably a tremendous amount of waste keeping all that food out all day. This restaurant is the Mexican one and I have to say that for both lunch and dinner, different menu at dinner, the food was really good, tasty and fresh. We ate lunch there almost every day of our 10 day visit. The beach is nice at this resort, though walk a little further south on the beach towards town and you will notice what the beach actually looks like when the resorts aren't cleaning it up every day. There is still an on the beach massage business, I've gone twice two years ago and once again this past trip. The therapists are good and it's nice to have a massage on the beach. Rates are now $70 USD for a 1 hour relaxation massage and $85 for a Swedish massage, about half of what they charge at the spa at the resort. One small downside is that it now costs about $33 USD to get a cab into Playa del Carmen from the resort, one way. As a Canadian that was too expensive to just go walk down 5th Ave again. Several staff members were still there from my visit 2 years ago. A shout out to Lydia and Martin in the buffet and Mexican restaurant for being so great! Overall I'm still happy with the resort and would not hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for an adults only, smaller resort with good food.

This resort was great! Check in was at 3pm so we recommend bringing summer clothes while you wait if you arrive early and coming from a colder place. Check in was smooth with the staff there and drinks were provided right away! You also get help with luggage after the room is available but we just went by ourselves. Rooms were cleaned every day but you should leave the room tag outside if they aren’t cleaning it at their usual time; we had asked them to come back later every day since they came around 8:30am every day while we were getting ready for the day. Linens are new every 3 days so keep that in mind but they’ll make the bed still. Mini fridge and coffee is restocked every day; they provide pop, beer and water in the fridge. Room service is available from 11am-10pm for free and after then is a charge. Bathroom supplies are restocked if you take or use them as well. Bathroom was clean but our shower had a small leak which didn’t bother us. There was a free safe to use. The bars were quick and the bartenders are all super friendly and hilarious. Shoutout to Cocktail Captain and Francisco! The pools are great, there’s one that’s chill and the other with activities and music every day. The bridge is being rebuilt but luckily we got to walk across it on our first day. The beach was decent, the ocean water was much warmer than the pools but a bit of seaweed build up on the shore and some smell but not unbearable. The ocean wasn’t super popular to swim in given the wind and yellow/red flags most days but we still went in. Just be aware that red flags may mean current conditions and life forms like jellyfish that have stung people during our time there. But the beach has a lot of options to sit, from tree huts to hammocks to being right in the sun by the walking deck (not by the shore) and under sun covers which ARE in front of the shore. Jet ski rentals were easy to book and it was super fun! There were free water activities you could book as well or extra ones but we didn’t do anything besides paid for jet skis. Lots of activities every day and there’s a schedule on their app but the entertainment/blue team also informs us as they walk around and get to know you and there’s a schedule board by the Mexican restaurant as well. The entertainment team are incredible at their jobs. Shoutout to Oswyn, Viri, Moses, and Kendall! We played a ton of beach and pool volleyball, aquafit/aqua aerobics, challenges and games, artsy activities, etc. every day! The food is pretty good! We aren’t picky people but there’s variety and restaurant options. The hibachi restaurant was the only one you had to book a reservation for and we’d recommend going around 5:30pm to stand in line before they open at 5:45pm. They’re closed Wednesdays. The other restaurants are great though, and the buffet has different food themed nights throughout the week but pretty standard during breakfast and lunch. There’s also Mike’s Cafe which is open most of the time with great cafe/snack options which was nice for our early excursion day and our last day getting ready for our check out and chiller nights/days. There’s also an ice cream place right by the pools open every day. The nightlife didn’t really exist in terms of partying as the crowd wasn’t as young as we were for the first few days. Highly recommend making some friends there and inviting them to night events which we ended up doing which made it a bit better. They also have pool/8 ball, ping pong and air hockey available to play. There’s 2 resorts close to ours on both sides and both have access to our shoreline and deck and have kids/families so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a full on adults only. They don’t really access the resort itself or anything though. The resort itself is on the small-mid size resort but we loved it because we didn’t have to walk too far to reach food and bar options and our room. Overall, we loved it.

This resort was super clean, modern, and the staff were super friendly and helpful! Food was amazing at the buffet but the a la cartes had long wait times. Its more quiet during the day, not super crowded and rowdy and felt really safe.

We had an amazing vacation at the Ocean Maya Royal. The resort was beautiful, the staff went above and beyond to keep us happy. The food was top notch....the alacarte restaurants were beyond amazing. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding the lack of shade available around the pools. Some of us enjoy the heat and the pools but cannot take too much sun. We had to be at the pool by 7:30 to get a chair with an umbrella. Yes, there were a few umbrellas at chairs but most of them were reserved for people who never showed up. They built a couple of palopas (sp)? By the bar towards the end of the week. A great idea, but not an area that could be used long term to relax out of the sun. Perhaps erecting a large gazebo with comfy chairs and tables would provide some "out of the sun respite " for us shade lovers. Even in the pool the only place to get out of the sun was under the bridge....not a big area at all. Besides this concern, the resort is top level. We will definitely be back!

This resort is excellent as an adult get away. The grounds and the rooms are very well taken care of. This is the first resort (out of 10 trips up to date), that we don't need reservations at restaurants and are able to have à la carte restaurants every night if we wanted, except for the Japanese one. You can only reserve the same night at 5:30pm for your meal between 6:30 and 10pm (no big thing). The Hacienda (buffet) has a different theme every day, which is also very nice. El Charro restaurant on the quiet pool side has excellent burgers, fries and salad at lunch time. The nightly shows are half different from other resorts we have been to. Tourists actually participate in great numbers to pool activities and beach volleyball. It would be nice to have more shade around the regular pool. The beach is cleaned daily when weeds show up. Barman does come on the beach if you want anything.

We had a fantastic week at Ocean Maya Royale. Clean resort, great staff, good food although the buffet needs a bit improvement. Al a cartes were great. The entertainment team MAKES THIS RESORT! Jules, Kendall, Autero and Adela are absolutely amazing. They work hard long hours and always with a smile & high energy. Would definitely go back.

I really enjoyed this resort for all it had to offer. It was visually beautiful, the staff were very friendly and was a smaller resort which I prefer. A big thank you to Melanie from Tripcentral for recommending this place and I can see a future booking happening!

Ocean Maya Royale is beautiful, grounds and beach/beachfront are immaculate and they work tirelessly to remove the sargassum that was plentiful due to a few red flag days. The pools are clean and warm. The food is generally ok though a fairly routine buffet. Breakfast was the best though line-ups for eggs are long with only one station. I recognize being a small resort limits the number of a la cartes but there aren’t many to choose from. The entertainment could be improved with more music offered in the gorgeous lobby to enjoy while having a pre-dinner drink. However the outdoor stage where most of the later evening entertainment takes place means loud noise heard in most of the rooms until quite late. If you’re an early to bed person pick your room carefully. The staff were all gracious and hardworking.

I loved the resort in general, very clean!! Rooms are spacious and comfortable. I didn’t touch the beach water, filled with seaweed you cant even swim. The food was good. I only got to try the mexican restaurant which got us sick. The open buffet was great, very good selection. Its very hard to reserve a table in the japanese restaurant. Staff were the nicest ever!!! They have activities throughout the days and it will never disappoint. I would give 3.8/5 just because of the food thing that messed up a whole day and the beach.

My son and I went on a week long trip together at the Ocean Maya Royale. The grounds are beautiful, the beach was great to the right of the pools. (In front of the volleyball net). We found the other part not as nice due to the seawall that they have built I assume to protect the beach. The food was fairly good. I enjoyed getting a nice cappuccino from Mike’s coffee house each morning. The store had nice shopping. We didn’t see the shows. Only issue we had was we got pretty bad food poisoning from the excursion we booked from Margarita at the resort. It was the Isla Mujeres excursion- do not book this one!!! My son threw up on the catamaran, in the cab home and in our room. I didn’t get sick until our plane ride home it was just awful :( . If we forget about the excursion we had a nice stay. Our room was not in good working order. Each morning the shower seemed to leak into the floor. We had to use our towels each time to sop up an enormous amount of water. We loved the Japanese restaurant. The Italian was beautiful, right on the ocean and was our favourite. I would stay again!

Our vacation at Ocean Maya Royale couldn't have been anymore perfect. All the reviews we read prior to going were spot on. The front desk was very welcoming when we arrived and even called to check on us in the middle of our stay to make sure everything was okay. The food, service and music were excellent and the room far exceeded our expectations with the marble floors, clean linens, stylish bathroom and private balcony. The 2 pools were perfect with a choice of how you wanted to spend your day One with some fun activities and the other a little more quiet. Having the ocean always in view and close proximity gave you options to spend more time on the beach. There seemed to be lots of seaweed but was always being cleared so it never interfered with your time spend on the beach and in the water. Always enough loungers, clean towels and bar service on the beach. Atmosphere of the resort was calm and relaxing. The grounds were spotless. Everything was so clean. The staff were amazing. I honestly can't say enough. We loved that it catered to people 18+. This resort comes highly recommended.

Our short vacation was amazing thanks to Ocean Maya Royale. Everything was top notch - hospitality, accommodation, food quality and overall service. I would definitely recommend this adult only resort for a vacation.

I truly enjoyed this hotel. The Blue Team made this one of the best hot vacations yet, especially Kenddel. He was engaging, fun, got people involved. The first day he asked my name and where I was from and remembered mine and everyone's name thereafter. Truly an amazing addition to your hotel. All staff were very friendly and dedicated to this hotel. If needing anything, they rushed too it.

Staff very friendly, property kept very nicely. Music very loud by 'party' pool all afternoon and very loud in front lobby area in the evening. Try to get a room as far away as possible from those two if you want some peace and quiet. Also, do not drink the water at restaurants, ice or crushed ice. We were very sick for 24 hours. Be careful booking up trips through agent at hotel. We booked up Tulum, snorkeling with turtles and cave trip, and the transport was awful. Tulum and turtle snorkeling was over run with tourists. Very tacky.

This resort checked all the boxes for me. It was only about 40 min from Cancun Airport which was great….no long transfer! The staff were beyond amazing! It was clean but a little dated. Food was delicious! Beach & pool were only steps apart! Grounds were immaculate!

The resort is not big and it’s right on the beach . The grounds are beautiful. Hotel rooms are nice and very clean . Service everywhere is excellent. Overall I’m very happy with my stay there . But there is 3 things I have noticed -would like more Mexican music playing -more chairs on the beach and pool area - mirror in the room . The only mirror is in the bathroom

This was a great resort. The activities team made sure there was always something to do, but there was also a very chill vibe if that's how you wanted to spend your time. Great food and nice staff. Also a good location - not too far from the airport or Playa del Carmen. Not a flashy place, but clean and comfortable rooms.

We are a group of 5 who went for a one week all inclusive vacation to this amazing resort/hotel. Had a fantastic time starting with the friendly staff to the succulent food to the luxury rooms, two large swimming pools, eco friendly grounds and the ocean frontage. There was plenty to do daily in the resort that our time literally run out before we could fully immerse in the whole experience all which it had to offer. We left with ideas of returning back in the near future.

We loved the resort, it was smaller which was so convenient and super easy to get around or get services. The staff and the food was excellent. Seaweed was not great but they did the best they could. Would have preferred a King Bed but we made do. I strongly recommend for a mature couples who are looking to relax.

Excellent resort ! The food at the buffet as well as at the à la cart restaurants was always delicious - our favorite was the French restaurant. No reservations are needed except for the Japanese restaurant. Drinks are spot on - or a tad too strong even. No problem getting loungers at the beach - just beware that as at every other resort seaweed right now is a problem.

I chose this resort partly because of the numerous reviews by folks saying they had been multiple times. After a week at the Ocean Maya Royale, I can see why! It felt like a solid four star resort - we stayed in one of the villas and had a small balcony. Rooms were clean and modern. Food was great, especially at El Charro near the pool. Loved the cafe as well and the French restaurant was surprisingly good. The crowd was a bit older (mostly couples in their 40s/50s) so the vibe was very mellow. Staff were very friendly and respectful. The beach isn't great but you can walk down the beach to a fresh water lagoon that's worth taking a look at. The perfect getaway to relax and restore.

This was my third time to the Ocean Maya. The last time was December 2018. I book this resort because it's close to Playa Del Carmen, adults only, and it isn't to big. I love the small buildings with only 6 rooms in each, the grounds are always lovely, I like there is a busy pool and a quiet one. The food is good and there are enough restaurants to choose from when I do a 10 day stay. This time around things were just a little bit below where they had been 4 years ago. The evening shows were fine but had fewer outside entertainers, dinner at El Charro by the pool was ok but I have had better Mexican food in my home city. Just a few things looked a bit neglected but the rooms were clean, there was always enough food and booze. (the Italian and Romantica restaurants were still excellent!) The lobby is looking worn and outdated. Dirty torn carpets, couches that are dirty, check in staff who aren't as enthusiastic as they used to be. Door knobs coming off in the bathroom by the Sports bar. Just little things. From talking to a local I think it is perhaps just a similar issue to Canada, everyone is screaming for enough staff. I never felt like there was anything lacking. We had a lovely vacation and rest and I would totally recommend others pick this resort.

Absolutely beautiful resort and the entertainment staff are unforgettable. Great night activities as well. Usually don’t visit the same resort twice but this may have changed my mind. Definitely recommend it.

The resort itself is nice well maintained clean rooms were ok the food was awful 7 days one good meal they don’t have a breakfast buffet by the pool only up at the front buffet no entertainment at the quiet pool only the swim up pool we’re all the 20 year olds are sea weed really bad could not go on the beach at all the smell was terrible

Ocean Maya had managed well throughout Covid. It’s our fourth time their, twice since Covid hit. The staff are so friendly, rooms clean, and the food is always great. Always something to satisfy the palate. Mike’s Coffee shop is a daily tradition and so satisfying. Would go back again in a heartbeat.

Everything was maintained we called to get air conditioning to get fixed and was done quickly . Food was typical resort nothing special or nothing bad. Overall we had a great vacation staff all very helpful and good service.

Stayed here for a week with my boyfriend in March. The resort itself was wonderful! Staff were friendly and helpful, grounds were well maintained and clean, rooms were clean and nice. The 2 pools were great, one was a party pool with music and swim up bar and the other was 1-2 feet deep and more relaxed vibe. Was disappointed in the lack of chairs around the pool and beach. There was never any available. The only reason that we got chairs was because we upgraded to the privilege, and they had their own canopy beds and chairs on the beach. Other than that, the privilege wasn't a huge upgrade and would not recommend doing it. The beach property was very small and had a lot of seaweed, which they were trying to clean but it was a lot. So just wish there was more beach front to the property. The food was really good, even the buffet was great! Would highly recommend the hibachi a la carte, for sure was our favourite meal. Go early to any show, especially the beach shows, as there is also limited seating for that. The shows themselves weren't that great. Ive been to about 8 other all inclusive's and the nightly shows here were probably the worst I've seen. Not horrible, but not great. I would recommend this place, but I probably would not return, as for the price we paid, nothing stood out as amazing, so would try somewhere else. We did really enjoy our stay here though!

Nice to be able to travel again, and second time back,at Ocean Maya Royale. We chose the Privilege suite and happy we did as we prefer this room layout and location over the block building rooms. Love being able to walk along the beach all the way to Grand Velas and back, about a 90 min. walk in all. The sun is still shining making lounging around so nice. As with any resort, it’s so nice simply having to choose what to put on your plate and not having to get the groceries or make it. So thankful for the resort staff who are cooking and cleaning and making the stay so enjoyable, Shoutout to Crystal and Asusana in the Privilege area as they were so helpful with inquiries and in arranging the PCR test required to get back in to Canada. Very smooth process as a nurse comes onsite for the testing and you get the results back within about 30 hrs. The added requirements uploading various docs to ArriveCAN added a touch of anxiety to the last 24 hours of the trip, yet I would do it all again. The staff go over and above with masking protocol and I feel sorry for them as they even must wear it outdoors and in public spaces. They definitely deserve generous tips for sure. You see additional disinfecting taking place around the resort as well. And you have to wear disposable gloves when getting your food at the buffet restaurant, La Hacienda. All good, and I’m sure all required by the Mexican tourism board to help tourists feel safe. Would love to know the number of positive COVID tests from people having stayed at the resorts. I would wager less than 1%. Totally felt safe being there, unmasked in open areas, and around lots of people, regardless of their vaccination status.

Not fresh hotel but they trying to maintain it in good level. Beach can be improved with more sand and cleaning in time from seaweed.Poool is clean and beautiful. Food choice: satisfying,good selection of salads,fruits but main foods are limited by staff distribution. No direct access to the food. Constant temperature control before entrance to the restaurant, mask,gloves protocol in place.

We have been here three times in the last 18 months. Food and drinks are great. The only thing better is the staff. The 4 restaurants and buffet will not leave you wanting. The beach is clean and seaweed free most days. Will return again.

We were at this resort for 9 days to Jan 4, 2020. It is adults only and the operators did a good job of catering to the crowd. Food is good and lots of live entertainment each evening. We do not hesitate to recommend this one.

We loved everything about this resort. The rooms were clean, the food was amazing. Loved the daily pool entertainment. All the restaurants did not disappoint. Service was wonderful, staff was friendly. I would go back. We went in November, so there was quite a bit of rain, but still plenty of sunshine in the afternoon to enjoy the pool. My only issue with the resort was the lack of drainage after a rain. Always had to walk through a few inches of water to get to the rooms. They need to work on a better drainage system. The beach was not the greatest. I wouldn't go back for the beach.

The hotel was very nice. Food was good...enough variety for everyone. Disappointed when we tried to order room service and it was closed at 11pm?? Our welcome book showed late night limited menu 23:00pm - 6:00/7:00am...yet told it was closed. Floors were very very slippery when wet and large puddles up over our ankles on pathways. We had no choice but to go thru them. But we made the best of it!! Very clean rooms!

The staff were amazing expecial Margarita. And the food was okay at the buffet and extremely good at the a la cart restaurants. The drinks choices were good and the waiters were quick to serve you. Overall the resort was clean and welcoming.

Very nice resort. Rooms were a good size and very clean. Restaurants were excellent and the staff really took the time to get to know you. Entertainment staff were awesome and they had lots of activities for everyone. Definitely will go back to this resort.

My friend and I went to this resort in June 2016 - it was a good time then and it was an even better time this trip! They definitely stepped up the resort a bit since last being there, with the addition of a cute little coffee shop, a sports bar, and a bit more nightly entertainment it made for a well rounded trip. I love the small community of this resort. Every single staff member was incredibly kind and always happy to help with anything we needed. Overall this resort was great, the weather was amazing and so was the food. If you like tacos, be sure to hit up the snack bar for lunch! Highlight was the pool foam party - which is always a good time! Only bad thing i'd have to say is lack of shade on the beach where you can have direct access to swim. Otherwise amazing time overall

This was our second time back at this resort and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Food, drinks, staff, etc were all amazing!! My only issue were the mosquitoes, but that has nothing to do with the actual resort. Many staff were saying that they have been worse this year than any other year, which I believe because I don’t think I got one bite the first time we were there. Hopefully it is just an “off” year, but I would recommend bringing some bug repellent.

The resort was pretty neat and looked really high end with amazing landscapes, buildings , and waterfalls. There were plenty 5 +1 restaurants to choose from daily and the food was amazing. The pools were kept clean and clear and so were the beaches with nice comfortable seating.

The entire stay was really good. The resort was excellent, the staff were super helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and well kept. Small touches like diffusers in the main lobby area with lemon grass/citronella scent to keep the mosquitoes away were noticed and appreciated. I would 100% go back to this resort and would definitely recommend to others.

The grounds were well manicured, rooms were spacious and kept clean. The breakfast buffet was great. The Ala carts were excellent. All the staff were Friendly. We did not enjoy being asked every day to sign up for the upgraded package or massage.

We were 6 people coming to the ocean maya royale, when we got there they offered us alcoholic drinks and checked us in very efficiently. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the rooms were beautiful and clean. The dining experience was great, I would recommend all the a la cartes except for Mexican, the rest were 10/10 and you could go as many times as you wanted. The staff was very polite and nice, the staff at the pool (Arturo, Naomi, Oscar, and the others) were great, very energetic and fun to be with. The beach was not nice because of the seaweed, but I understand this is a whole Mayan riviera issue not just the one hotel. All in all, the vacation and the resort were great. FYI there is a lagoon if you walk down the beach for about 15-20 minutes, the lagoon is so beautiful, it is fresh water, it is clear. Then there’s a bit of a current and it pushes you out into the ocean, but it is not deep out there. A great experience.

We had a fantastic time at the Ocean Maya Royale. From the moment we entered the lobby, we were given top service. My brother and sister-in-law decided to join us at the last minute and we asked for rooms nearby each other. In a matter of minutes, we were taken to our new rooms next door to each other. One week of great food (all restaurants were amazing) and the buffet where we had breakfast and lunch were very good. No complaints at all. All was fresh, made to order and we were given smiling service by all. Pools were clean and we especially enjoyed the foam party at the big pool. When we wanted to relax, we went to the smaller pool. Everything is close, so if you are looking for a small resort -- this is the one for you. No need for trolleys as everything is within walking distance. We also enjoyed the entertainment and the beach party. The only downside was the seaweed on the beach. The staff worked tirelessly to clean it up. The hotel staff were very friendly and I can't say more about this resort except -- we will be back again!!! Thank you Ocean Maya Royale.

my wife and I just spent a week at this resort, it was great. staff is very friendly and fun, food is good and rooms are very well kept. little disappointed with the seaweed on the beach but its expected this time of the year, it cleared up completely on our 4th day so that made up for it. we would definitely recommend this resort ( and have) to friends.

We stayed at Ocean Maya last week and enjoyed every moment. The entertainment staff are so amazing. Big thank you to Christian and Andrea for making our week so special. If you are looking for a deal on excursions be sure to see Margarita by the pool. She had better rates then the front did. We did the Mayan ruins and cenotes. It was absolutely the highlight of our trip. The resort was well kept. The rooms were very nice. The only downfall was the seaweed which a problem in Mexico this year. I wouldn’t hold that against the resort as they made every effort to clean it daily.

Great rooms,great food,awesome service. Wildlife around the grounds was amazing to see. Unfortunately Mother Nature took over the beach with seaweed but the resort staff did their best to keep up with the removal.

Trip hazards abound on the slowly decaying paths on the way to your chlorine smelling room. Chicken bones and glasses can be found in the pools as well as several missing tiles. Enjoy the barely warm fish or chicken at your own risk while waiters work diligently to avoid you. Requests are carefully listened to and promptly ignored.

Everything in this hotel is good except one thing . The night entertainment area is small and it is not very intersting to watch it . It needs a big upgrade in that regard . I wiuld still recommend this hotel for everything else .

Hotel was just the right size (not too large). Very well kept, rooms very clean and food was good. We also liked the Adults only atmosphere. We were a group of 4 ladies and loved everything. The animation team and shows were great. Everyone working at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach - could be the time of year. This wasn't an issue for us as we like staying at the pool most of the time. Suggestions for Improvement - Put more signs up to educate and deter people from feeding the wild animals. We had an issue with a racoon staying on our balcony all night He made a huge mess. We couldn't go outside. Fortunately we were able to move to the 1st floor. So many visitors think they're being kind feeding these critters but don't realize what a nuisance they can be. Also, an extra mirror in the bedroom area would be helpful.

This was our first time trying an adults only resort. It was a lot of fun! The resort was a great size, you didnt feel like you were walking for days to get somewhere. The food and drinks were plentiful and delicious. The staff all do their best to get to know you and make sure you have a great time. I would definitely go back!

We recently stayed at Ocean Maya Royale for 10 days. We loved our experience, excellent food, friendly staff, fun entertainment. The only negative aspect is the presence of algue on the beach but workers do their best daily to clean it up. Water temperature is very nice. Algue is present all along the coast this year.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Very good service and amenities. Helpful staff and fun filled experience. I would love to visit again and recommend it for anyone. Nice restaurants offering different cuisine options.

We just returned from our 4th stay at Ocean Maya Royale, which is a clear indication of what we think of this resort. There are so many things we like about it. The size is perfect, easily manageable on foot. As older adults we appreciate the fact that there are no children. The grounds are beautifully kept and we liked the wildlife: deer, coatis, racoons, as well as the many and colourful birds. We found our room very comfortable and always spotlessly clean, and anything we requested (such as a rubber mat for the shower) was promptly delivered. Both pools are well maintained, and while we didn't use the "party pool" ourselves, preferring the larger, quieter areas, we could see that it was popular with a lot of guests, enjoying a lively good time. As for the beach, there was hardly any seaweed, thanks to the workers down there, and there was good access for walking and swimming in the ocean. Food is an important part of any holiday, and the Ocean Maya Royal did not disappoint. The main dining room, La Hacienda, offers an amazing variety of choices at every meal, something to suit every taste. We especially liked the two dinners we ate at The Blue Moon. We were really impressed by the quality of the food there, as well as the excellent service. La Dolce Vita was very good too, and we also liked the Mexican dinner at El Charro. We cannot say enough about the staff in general. Everyone we encountered was friendly, courteous and helpful, cheerful, smiling and so hard-working! It seems their mantra is "Todo bien?", and it always was, muy bien. We would like to mention and thank some of the people who stood out for us: Sara Lopez in the Privilege Office, Agustin Lopez at the beach, Jorge Casanova and the team at The Blue Moon, Vicente and Manual and Adrian in La Hacienda. You all, along with your colleagues, made our stay very special. Would we return to the Ocean Maya Royal? Absolutely! Would we recommend it to others? Definitely!

Rooms were very nice, entertainment staff was exceptional. All staff was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the pools and excellent dining, especially appreciated the “ no reservation “ policy at restaurants. The buffet did not keep up with refilling the selections very well at times and the daytime construction along the walking paths was not very attractive. Especially enjoyed Hamlet, Luis, Yessi and Gustavo on the entertainment staff, the hibachi chefs, our bartender Ollie and the personable staff at the Mexican restaurant

Resort is well maintained. Rooms always cleaned and bed very comfortable. Had a few issues with Japanese restaurant that Rodrigo at the front desk fixed quickly. Also had issues with the benefits we were to get having booked through WestJet. Once they figured that out, they fixed quickly. Nightly entertainment was good. Just a couple of acts they shouldn't ever have again but the rest were good. Food was really good at all restaurants. Breakfast a little monotonous but was really only there for the coffee. Very little beach at this resort but wasn't there to swim and seaweed problems at all beaches in Playa Del Carmen made going in some days impossible. Active and quiet pool as well as loungers on sand are close together so you'd hear everything going on at the active pool. Never bothered us. All wait, cleaning, grounds, front desk, food prep, maintenance staff always trying to please. New terminal at airport was great. So quick to get through and transportation was waiting when we got outside.

My 3rd time going to this resort. Love it because it’s a smaller resort and no matter where you are on the resort everything is near by. Food lodging and shows were fantastic. I will go back next year. The staff are cannot do enough for you. The only negative I have is that our room was not made up from when we came back from the pool or beach. After I contacted the front desk, everything was rectified. Also sad that we could not swim at the beach, but pools were great.

Grounds very well kept. Clean cared for well. No complaints however it should be noted that the resort is a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. We enjoyed the.variety of food offered and were pleased with housekeeping. Cudos to the amazing entertainment staff who.truly went above and beyond to help make a memorable stay.

The grounds are very well maintained and public areas kept exceptionally clean. Food at the buffet is above average and the specialty restaurants are excellent. Pools are well maintained with plenty of beds etc and pool service is efficient. Only disappointment is the beach (a lot of seaweed) over which the hotel has no control. It is raked daily in attempting to keep tidy. All staff are tremendous, friendly, polite and humorous.

We totally enjoyed our experience. The grounds were amazing and extremely clean. As were all the buildings on the site. The food buffet was always filled with anything you could possibly want. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Italian restaurant could use a little more pasta variety and sauces. I look forward to returning one day. The pools were excellent, but unfortunately the water was very rough and the beach was a little murky.

Great selection of fresh and tasty food. They didn't have Gluten free bread, which I would have liked. Loved the white sandy beach. The entertainment was amazing. The staff was very friendly. Adults only was a bonus.

This was the first time we had been to mexico and had a pretty good time. Food was great, staff were very friendly. We would highly recommend the Italian and japanese steak house for dinner! Rooms were fairly clean other than the floors being a bit dirty but to be expected when you are at the beach. The shows were great but nightlife is a bit lacking at this resort. We had no issues during our stay!

The resort was small but nice. Very clean. Staff at the bar and in the restaurants friendly. Restaurants were a bit hit and miss. Did not like the buffet at all. Have traveled to Mexico many times and found the quality of the food to be poor in comparison to other resorts. The evening entertainment was good however during the day somewhat lacking. 2 days of our trip there was no entertainment staff at the pool at the all and non-existent at the beach for the entire trip. The beach area was small but nice. We enjoyed our stay however I would not return this to resort.

We stayed at the Ocean Maya Royale, and had a relitvely good expierence. We noticed that the resort was very understaffed in all restaurants and bars. The beach was very Disappointing, there was little swimming areas, luckily the pool was right next to the beach. The food selection was poor in comparison to other resorts I've stayed at in the Mayan. I really enjoyed the no reservation policy at the a la carte restaurants, the Italian and romantic dining a la cartes were delicious. All and all it was a pretty average stay. Nothing over the top, but nothing terrible either.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 week at then end of June, 2017. We really enjoyed our stay, the room was kept very clean , the food was very good, and the staff that we encountered were friendly and accomodating. We really liked the smaller size of this resort, everything was within walking distance. I can only comment on 3 of the restaurants as we enjoyed them so didn't feel a need to try the Blue Moon or La Dolce Vita restaurant. El Charro (Mexican) was very good, a smaller menu but we actually ate there 3 times. The Japanese restaurant was good but it's really more about the show there than it is the food. We really enjoyed the buffet (La Hacienda ), lots of variety and a different theme each night. The Brazilian night was very good , as was the Mexican . We loved Mike's Coffee shop, wonderful latte's and snacks . Wish it opened earlier but there are cappuccinos etc. Available all the time in the lobby bar . Entertainment that we saw was enjoyable but we only saw one evening show and the entertainment at the pool during to day. The entertaiment staff try very hard to engage guest and keep them busy with pool activities, painting t-shirts, dance lessons, Spanish lessons, sushi making etc. My husband participated in the paella making and had a really good time . All in all we really enjoyed our week at this resort and would definetly go back again.

This is a great hotel and resort. Solid 4/5. Pool areas were quite loud with music and atmosphere, but that's what we were after. Would return again. Food is great, service is lovely. Even though the weather was a bit cloudy, the hotel staff find lots of things for us to do. Nice that the hotel lobby bar is open 24 hours a day.

The resort staff were AMAZING! Everyone was attentive, caring and made an effort to get to know everyone! Very clean and well maintained! Food was phenomenal! So many choices. It was great that we didn't need reservations at the specialty restaurants. One thing I didn't like was the upselling. I found some of the sellers a little pushy (massage, privilege package)

Transport to and from the hotel was clean and professional. We were greeted with a cold drink at check in. Our consierge was Louis, who went over the resort information, and then tried really hard for us to go to a morning meeting for another Ocean hotel. The hotel buildings and grounds were beautiful. Our room had a comfortable kind size bed, my only complaint would be the lumpy pillows. Food was delicious and plenty of choice whether at the buffet or the a la carte restaurants. Bar service was good, and prompt service. Evening entertainment was great especially the fire show and the acrobatic show. Staff were friendly and intersted in helping Would definitely return! Had a wonderful vacation.

We just spent 7 days at the Ocean Mayan Royale.....it was an amazing resort! The service was superb, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Most spoke good English. Our room was very spacious and had a king size bed that was very comfortable. The ground are well maintained and staff are always working hard to keep the grounds looking amazing. Lots of wild life around too which was pretty neat. Food was amazing! All the AL a Carte restaurants had great food and amazing service. Favorite restaurants and must trys are the Romantic and Italian. There is a little coffee shop on resort called Mike's.......must try it has amazing specialty drinks and treats. By far best trip we have had yet! Would recommend this resort......5 star!

Okay, this is going to be fairly long review but I have a lot to cover so bear with me. I traveled with my sister and we arrived on March 6th. We had requested a room with double beds, near the beach and NOT on the first floor as we don't feel safe on the first. So what do we find out at our check in...double beds, yes but on the first floor and the furthest building back from the beach you could get. I have traveled a lot, especially the Mayan Riviera and Dominican Republic. This was our first time at an H10 hotel. They showed us three other rooms, closer to the beach and we decided on the room in building 33 on the second floor. Back at the front desk we are told it would cost us an extra $90 per night for any of those rooms as they were considered "premium". We were not impressed. They finally brought it down to $45 per night. We really had no choice as our original room was totally unsuitable. We were told the room would be freshened up while we had lunch. My sister is a bit of a germophobe but even I had to agree that there was no way our room had been "freshened". Stains on the floor, dust on the dresser and the sheets and pillows were damp. However, after our call to the lobby, housekeeping was there within 10-15 minutes. They recleaned and put fresh linens on the bed. Anna, our maid, was an absolute sweetheart all week. Because we do a lot of traveling, my sister and I decided to listen to their pitch for their "Premium" service, etc...On our arrival, Caleb, the one who set up our breakfast meeting with a representative kept insisting it wasn't a timeshare. Guess what, it's a timeshare with slight variations. Isaac, our rep., was very, very nice. He would tell us the costs in Canadian dollars and my sister and I made the wrong assumption when we were getting down to the final details with the manager, Bobby. We were very interested but still had a few doubts. Of course the pressure is on because this price is only offered now and is off the table once you leave. If you're ever in a similar situation, please be aware that, legally, you have up to five days, I believe, to cancel with no penalties. BUT, be aware of the difference in exchange rates. We had decided to go for it, it was going to require a deposit of $3,675 which I was going to put on my credit card. When we went in the office to sign the agreement the amounts were stated in US dollars. We had been talking Canadian and assumed the final price negotiated was in Canadian dollars. That changed everything and we said no, we wouldn't take it. They had already processed the payment to my credit card BEFORE I signed the agreement. The amount was recredited to my visa but when I checked my account on line I was shocked to discover that because the banks have a different rate for buying and selling US dollars, I lost over $250 due to the exchange rates!!! When I spoke to the Premium office about this they said they recredited the same amount they had debited, which they had. The difference in the rates was not their problem. I was leaving today when I noticed this and its on the plane that I remembered them processing the payment BEFORE I signed the contract. Not sure that is legal but I will be looking into it further. The hotel is quite a long distance to the main road and I wanted to take the Collectivo to Playa del Carmen. The hotel doesn't offer a shuttle to the main gate, you either walk or they call a taxi for you. It costs 50 pesos or approx. $3.50 for a 5 minute ride. The collectivo was 20 pesos or approx. $1.50 for a 15-20 minute drive. You shouldn't have to take a taxi. It's ridiculous. Food: wasn't bad. Was always able to find something I liked at the buffet. Their selection of salads are pretty limited. The Smoothie station in the main buffet and at the bar by the Mexican grill was very, very good. Brazilian night was my favorite. Someone complained in another review about not being able to order from a menu. Of course you can't at the buffet but if you went to the à la carte restaurants, they had menus. We ate at the Blue Moon one night and it was fabulous. My sister had the clam chowder and salmon for her main course. She raved about both. I had the ginger, carrot soup and warm beef/beet salad and the beef tenderloin with wild rice, also very good. Grounds are well kept. They have deer that come out at dusk and these funny creatures that look like raccoons but with long noses, along with your ignuanas. There are two pools, right next to each other. One is for the "rowdy" crowd, the otI her end for those who like things a more sedate. The beach was not the greatest. Very wavy and the water was dirty, full of seeweed. They tried very hard to keep up with the seaweed. The pool bars do close early, 5:30 p. m. but the bar in the lobby is opened 24 hours. All in all we did enjoy our stay despite the setbacks, annoyances, etc. The weather was great. The staff are all friendly and very nice. Shout out to Manuel and Selena at the main buffet who were awesome. Would I go again? Yes, I would consider it depending on the price. We paid, including the upgrade cost, almost $2,000 cdn for the week, which was not worth it. $1,500 to $1,700 is the most I would pay, and that would be for a premium room by the beach. Otherwise, there are many other resorts I'd rather return to visit. Hope this helps!

OMG!!! by far the best trip ever!! We've been to Cancun several times & thought we'd try the Mayan for a change. We were not disappointed to say the least. Our welcoming concierge, Cesare, was very helpful & ever so friendly which made us feel comfortable immediately in our new surroundings. From the helpful, friendly hotel staff, the modern, clean room with a great view, the delicious buffets & Italian restaurant meals, the endless & tireless entertainment people who kept us amused with their parties, music, movies, magic shows, as well as the amazing Mexican & Mayan traditional nights, the awesome bartenders & spanish coffees...wow!! oh, and the weather for our 10 day vacation was the icing to this amazing, amazing trip to OMR!! Thanks to Kim for all her help in getting us to this spectacular resort!! We definitely recommend it & if possible, will definitely be returning to it!!! For Sure!!!

We stayed at the Ocean Maya Royale for a week in February 2017, to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was a very pleasant week, with only a few minor issues. Our overall summary would be this: it was very acceptable and one of the more affordable adults-only resorts in the Mayan Riviera, but nothing special enough to make us want to return for another visit, when there are so many other all-inclusive resorts to investigate. The GOOD: this resort is very clean, and the grounds are well-maintained, and quite beautiful. We enjoyed seeing lots of animals and birds: coatis, deer, and iguanas mainly. They are not a problem (just please do not feed them) We found the FOOD in the restaurants very acceptable. Nice serving sizes that look too small for North Americans, but actually do fill you up. Picky eaters will always be picky eaters. We tried all of the restos, and thought they were mostly very good. The buffet was available for all 3 meals, and had an impressive assortment of foods. The 4 a la carte restos were all very acceptable. The teppanyaki show at Yookoso was very entertaining, and there was lots of food, although it was all seasoned the same way, so it was a little repetitive. We thought the Mexican “El Charro” was very good, and the Italian “La Dolce Vita” too. Probably because this resort is only about 10 years old, the climate control works very well. It was a treat to find that the air conditioning inside the buildings wasn’t set so low that you were freezing cold. It was just comfortable, and a nice break from the outside heat/humidity. The Mexican and Italian restos are al fresco, so no air conditioning at all… but good breezes off the water! Another nice surprise was that clothes and towels in your room would actually be mostly dry by morning! The entertainment was enjoyable, and some of the shows were surprisingly good. Remember that this is not Vegas… these are young, local dancers and performers who work hard to put on entertaining shows. The resort staff were generally very friendly, helpful, and hard working. Lots of activities around the party pool area if you wish. Unfortunately, guests do go down to the pools/beach to reserve most of the chairs early in the morning, but we were usually able to find a little space to sit after breakfast. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: We booked through Sunquest, and the airport rep gave us a package with our local Sunquest agent’s name and the time we should meet with her to arrange return shuttle to the airport, and it had some coupons for booking daytrips, etc. The airport rep warned us that the resort staff might ask for that package then just try to get you to book extra things through them! When the resort “concierge” checks you in, they will tell you that you must book a private “breakfast orientation” for the next morning to learn about the resort. Be wary of this “orientation”. You might get some resort information, but it is actually a time share talk, and they are very high-pressure. We declined the breakfast meeting, and she kept pushing, but we wouldn’t budge. After that, this concierge was suddenly much less friendly, and although she had earlier promised that they would do something special for my birthday, nothing happened on the day! Very petty. Hubby did ask at the front desk, and they did a little something the next day, so that kind of made up for it. So the moral is: if you want anything special, don’t assume that it will happen with one request…. Follow up a couple of times! This is a fairly small property, only 320 rooms, and there are no shuttles/carts to drive you around. Thank goodness we brought a rented wheelchair from home for my husband who walks with a cane due to M.S. There were several other guests with wheelchairs too. Because of the chair, we were given a bigger room, which was very helpful. The staff were generally very kind and helpful in assisting us. But be warned, there is no elevator to get to the main lobby building where the buffet and 2 of the a la carte restos are located!! There are ramps everywhere, but the main one up to the lobby level is fairly steep. There is a good handrail with the stairs, so hubby was able to work his way up the stairs, while I rolled the empty chair up the ramps… I definitely would have worked up a sweat pushing it up with him in it!! Oddly, the party pool and the quiet pool are right next to each other, and right at the beach. So if you are looking for absolute peace and quiet on the beach or at the pool, you won’t find it, but it is somewhat quieter at the far end of the pool/beach. If you enjoy a nice beach and swimming in the ocean, this resort might not be for you. As you can see in the pictures, there is a boardwalk along most of the beach, with just a small area off to the side with direct sandy access to the water. That area is quite crowded with beach chairs, and only a few umbrellas, but the water looks nice (although some people do complain about seaweed… this IS the ocean, folks). The “beach” area enclosed by the boardwalk is really weird… it feels like a huge concrete slab with about 4 inches of fine sand on top. Very firm. In summary: this is a very acceptable resort, especially if you are easy-going, just want to relax, have some fun, and enjoy different kinds of foods. (i.e.: not a picky eater). We probably won’t return, but we would be ok with recommending it to friends who were looking for a somewhat budget-conscious holiday and who aren’t too uptight!

We enjoyed our stay at the Ocean Maya Staff were very friendly, the resort was clean and well kept. The food was good our favourite restaurant was the Blue Moon special thanks to Caroline and Adrienne. His Mayan coffee was the best! Entertainment in the evenings was professional not the activities staff and was very good. The resort went all out for the Super Bowl party -decor , big screens great themed food and lots of Coors light! We had no problems getting lounge chairs on the beach everyday and enjoyed long walks down the beach. Only downside was they need more bartenders and could only get wifi with iPad in the lobby. Phone picked wifi up better even on the beach.

We had a wonderful stay at the Ocean Maya Royale. The grounds are beautifully kept, there is the chance to see wildlife all the time. We found the resort a lot smaller than what we are used to, but it was still a very nice resort. The staff are what truly make this resort amazing! Our check in at the front desk went very smooth and efficiently, yes we had to wait until 3pm to get our room, but we expected that and were prepared with a change of clothes. The H10 privilege guy was great as well. Yes he tried to sign us up for the breakfast meeting, but we just told him we weren't interested, and that was that. Our most favorite staff was everyone at the Lobby bar! Ana and Tila were just amazing and were always super friendly. All the guys that worked at the lobby bar were amazing as well (sorry didn't get everyones names) The food was great at all the restaurants we went to. There is always something to find to eat, the variety was great. If you are looking for a good ol burger - head down to the grill by the pool. Best burger in a long time! The beach isn't the greatest, but we did know that when we booked. There is still a decent section of beach to go swimming in the ocean. We also walked down to the lagoon which was great, and I would recommend it. I did get a few bug bites, but it only seemed to happen at night. I'm not going to complain about it though, if you have ever been to Muskoka in the spring time, you learn to deal with bugs lol I do agree the nightlife is lacking a little bit. The evening shows were entertaining, and we enjoyed them. We did however find that we didn't really know what to do afterwards except drink, or go to sleep. More activities/shows/music at night would be great, seeing as it is an adult only resort. Overall this is a very nice resort, and I would recommend it :)

Very nice resort beautiful grounds and staff is very nice and helpful . The buffet was very good lots of choices . The Italian restaurant was excellent . The Japanese restaurant always had a lineup but I understand the food was just OK . The room was small and the bed was hard and the pillows were terrible . The beach was small but good swimming and the two pools were very nice . Overall it is a good resort but because of the bed we would not stay there again .

Overall The ocean maya was a fairly small resort, perfect for the couple that wants a quiet and relaxing break. It certainty didn't seem full. It was clean and the staff were friendly. There were lots of activities available; included games like beach volleyball and additional activities like parasailing, jet skiing, and scuba diving. And of course off resort excursions (I highly recommend a full day at Tulum). If you love being busy there was lots to do. But if you just want to relax on the beach, you won't feel overwhelmed by the goings on. The beach front was very small, most of the waterfront was not accessable for swimming and had a sort of board walk. The accessable part of the beach was very nice and the staff kept it well maintained, but make sure to watch your step as you walk into the water so you don't stub you toes, there are a few rocks. The pools were nice, pretty standard. Rooms Our room was a gardenview perfectly located between the lobby/main buffet (6 block) and the pool/beach. However if you had room in the 20s you would be far away from everything. The house keeping staff always did an excellent job, we always came back to a perfectly clean room, they also made sure our fridge was stocked with lots of water. Food There are several restaurants included: sushi, italian, mexican, and french. We tried the first three and they were excellent. The French one requires long pants. The regular buffet was also good, it has lots of options.

The hotel had a great layout. The pool was clean and the grounds were always being attended too. The staff always had a smile and willing to go the extra mile. A great effort was made for nightly entertainment. Overall the noise level was loud until midnight. Sound carried throughout the villas. There was always something to choose from on the daily buffets. The Japanese restaraunt was delish! As stated from other reviews, bring your own pillow was a good tip. Erosion has taken away almost all of the beach. If that is your 'thing' this is not the resort for you. It was great being an adults only, didn't miss the young ones at all.

We recently stayed at Ocean Maya Royale and we loved some things about it but we disappointed with the rooms and some of the service. We found the food very good but did miss seeing seafood at the buffet. Also liked that it was adult only. We found the amenities in the room were lacking and when we called to get things we needed we had to call several times and still didn't get all the items.

This upscale adult only resort met all our expectations. We were going to book a different resort but the tripcentral agent recommended this one and we had an amazing time. Grounds are pristine and well manicured. Our room was lovely but a little noisy at night as it was close to the lobby but conveniently close to everything. The service was spectacular and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the buffet was very good but the a la carte restaurants were excellent and no reservations required. The only complaint was beware of the sales pitches for buying into prestige. It's basically a time share!

My partner and I travelled to the Ocean Maya Royale last week for a 7 day vacation. The staff were all very pleasant, especially Maria Jose on the front desk. At check in, we found that we had a ground floor room, and requested a change to 2nd level room. Maria indicated that none were available at that time (Sunday afternoon), but that she would ensure that we were moved to our desired location the next morning, and we were. So thank you Maria Jose! The grounds were kept neat and clean, and our room was cleaned each morning. The animals roam around the resort, but don't bother you unless you make the mistake of feeding them. Don't do it! There are signs saying not to feed the animals and the staff will remind you, but we saw some people feeding them, and taking photos. The last thing you would want is for the animals to become a nuisance, and a liability for the resort. So, please just leave them alone and they will leave you alone. :) The food was good, not outstanding, but good. We did not pay for the upgrade to privilege status, so I can't say if the food is better in the privilege area. There are separate items on the menu for those who have taken the upgrade as well as certain top level brands of alcohol, so if food and specific alcohol items are important to you, then you may want to consider spending the extra dollars. We liked that the resort was small and fairly compact. The weather was hot, hot, hot - and we had a wonderful time.

I thought over all that the resort was good. The employees were pleasant. Even the beds were comfortable. The thing that was so disturbing were H10 people all over the lounge area trying to sell us on H10 one morning I counted 8 of them. Then even after refusing they called my room in the morning. This was way to much, I think if you want repeat customers this should be stopped or cut back. I know personally because of that I sadly will not return.

Ocean Maya Royale is a great resort with immaculant grounds, delicious restaurants, comfy rooms. The staff are all very attentive and ensure a great time is had by all. Any problems we had, such as being given a double room rather then a king (unfortunately not requested by our agent as we asked) was corrected ASAP! There is free wifi everywhere, free room service until 11pm. We were not privilege guests, but didn't feel we lacked anything at all. We enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend this resort as it is great value for the money. Thank you Ocean Maya for a wonderful holiday!

Great hotel. Smaller in size, so there was no need for shuttles. Staff was great, very friendly and helpful. Food was very good, no reservations needed, so we ate at the al a carte every night. Need more shade at the pools and ocean. All and all, I would recommend this resort to any of my friends.

Service and food were the best part, best I've had in all inclusive. There was water front and beach but a board walk took more then half of the beach area. That's my only complaint, overall my gf and I had a wonderful time

This resort was well maintained. Clean rooms and facilities. the grounds were well kept and around the pool was very nice. Not enough shade around the pool though as you cannot move umbrellas. The food was pretty good, the snack bar near the pool had amazing burgers! The a la carts were quite nice. I found it took quite a while to be seated if you went to the buffet. I also feel like it took a long time for the wait staff to come and offer you either water or a drink, but that was only at the buffet. I just feel like they were maybe under staffed at the time I went. The entertainment staff around the pool were great. Really tried to get people involved, and the foam party on the Friday was a blast! the maid stole a pair of shorts and a shirt from me, which was very odd, but other then that all the staff was good and the over all experience was a good one! Not somewhere to go with a bunch of friends, its more of a couples resort I found.

This beautifully landscaped resort provided for all of our needs. Restaurants x5 were great, food delicious with local and North American and European options always available and plentiful. Staff were always friendly and accommodating. The resort is just the right size, we could easily walk comfortably to all amenities. Pools were pristine, never crowded and easy to access. Beach, was very protected, lots of chaise and umbrellas (room for all), well serviced by thebar. Resort based amenities were plentiful:, pool side sports, crafts, water sports, seafood, kayaks and snorkeling, all available on site. Valentin, the resort based off site planner was Very knowledgible for shopping, snorkeling, touring.....all Mayan Experiences, and his recommendations were made with client need, comfort and safety in mind. I loved all of my off site experiences as well, Valentin helped me make choices suitable for my interests, skills and age. Night shows at the resort were energetic, musical, magical and well attended. Although the resort was fully booked when we attended in Match, it never felt that way, we easily could find quiet time, quiet space and a friendly smile.

Ocean Maya is one of the best resorts we have stayed at. We were a group of 12 (3 families) and we had an amazing vacation. The rooms are very clean & comfortable and very well appointed. The grounds are beautiful, the food delicious, the drinks amazing and the staff incredible. Loved every minute of it !!! If you are looking for a beautiful beach, it's right next door , just walk along the beach to the right, through the next resort and you can walk for miles on a beautiful sandy beach!
