I honestly can’t say enough good things about Viva Azteca. This resort was exactly what I needed. From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of peace and relaxation that stayed with me throughout my entire vacation. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. It has such a lovely, laid-back atmosphere, and there was something about the whole place that just made it easy to slow down and enjoy being there. I felt peaceful. I felt comfortable. I really felt like I had gotten away from everything for a little while. And the food was fantastic! The buffet had lots of choices, but the à la carte restaurants were the real highlight. I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the meals. We had some wonderful dinners, and each restaurant had something different and delicious to offer. The staff were friendly, the grounds were beautiful, and the overall atmosphere was just wonderful. It wasn't a huge, overwhelming resort, and I really appreciated that. Everything felt manageable and relaxed. If I had to mention one negative, it would be the pool area. There were times when kids and adults were throwing balls across the pool from quite a distance, and unfortunately there wasn't always much consideration for the people around them. If you were trying to quietly relax in the pool, it could be a little frustrating. But honestly? Even that was something I could overlook. There was just so much more to love about this resort. I came home feeling like I had truly had a vacation — not just stayed at a hotel. Viva Azteca gave me exactly what I was looking for: peace, relaxation, beautiful surroundings, wonderful food, and a chance to empty my cup and just enjoy myself. I would absolutely return to Viva Azteca, and I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing getaway. ❤️?☀️

My stay at Viva Azteca by Wyndham hotel was absolutely wonderful! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The rooms were spotless. The food was excellent — fresh tropical fruit, local specialties, and a variety of international dishes to choose from. The grounds are amazing, covered with greens and trees. The beach has a lots of shade. The staff went above and beyond to make sure every detail was perfect, from arranging excursions to offering thoughtful touches throughout my stay. I left feeling completely refreshed and can’t wait to return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing and unforgettable getaway!

The food was really good and the staff was so friendly! We were surprised that there is no elevators but they did give us a main floor room. Very clean and very well maintained for an older resort. The fellow at the bar made the best cappuccinos.

Our family of 4 went for 7 days. Very clean, accommodating and friendly. We had the best time! The food was great! Lots of entertainment. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We loved the snack bar for a quick bite. And the restaurants were so nice. The staff was great. We would stay there again!

We chose this resort specifically because it was a smaller size than the mega resorts you often find along the Mayan Riviera. Food was consistently good and while we loved the lobby bar, the pool bar was hit and miss with the quality of drinks. While we missed having a swim-up bar in the pool I wouldn't trade it for the size of the beach and always having available loungers no matter what time of day it was. The lobby courtyard was beautiful and a lovely space to enjoy pre & post dinner drinks. The beach shoreline did have an issue with erosion while we were there but a short walk over and it was fine. Staff was always helpful and available for anything we needed.

Beautiful well maintained grounds, very very clean resort, staff are constantly cleaning and upkeeping all areas of the resort, food was very good with plenty of proteins and fresh fruit. Enjoyed the Cafe with coffees and delicious deserts. Snack bar had great lunch menu. Rooms are very clean and spacious. Liked how close beach was to pool area.

Washrooms and bar far from the beach swimming pool a bit small everything else pretty good close to the main shopping district nice nightly entertainment and daily activities are for all ages good place for a family with kids

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this small , easy to get around resort. We had a perfect experience with all the service staff who were pleasant and eager to make things right for us. The grounds were accessible , which was a big assets as my husband had had recent knee surgery. Our room faced onto a forested area which provided us with privacy and nature. The beds, pillows and bed coverings were extremely comfortable. The food was quite good, most of the time. The beach was huge and clean and there were tons of lounges available with adequate shade. The only complaint would be that the drinks were weak both on the alcohol side and the mix.. the beer was tasty, though.

Stayed in Augut 2023. Family of 4. (15 and 11 years old children) The resort was overall was very good. The rooms were clean and big enough with comfortable beds. The food at the open buffet was pretty good with plenty of options. The desserts (we tried tarts, jello, ice cream and panna cotta) were amazing. Staff all over the resort were friendly except for the reception. They were not rude but did not look happy as the other staff at the resort. We loved the idea of having door keys embedded into the bracelets. Zero worry of forgetting the room key. We were aware of the eco tax and safe ($2 per day) charges. It did.not.come as a surprise. For the internet we were under the assumption that we will be paying $35 for a week for a good internet in the room (read it on tripadvisor review). But that was not the case. There is an open internet in the common areas of the resort, did not check the quality at the beach but in the room it was good at one corner of the bed where there was none in the other corner. We managed somehow but anybody who needs internet for essentials should be prepared to stay in the resort open area which was extremely hot. The air condition is only in your room not in the eating or common sitting area. Ceiling fans when it is over 40 degrees not much helping. The staff was constantly cleaning the corridors top to bottom always with a smile on their face. The staff at the bars and restaurant was never eager for tips, they appreciate but never making you feel you are obligated. We booked 2 ala carte restaurants (Bamboo and Italian) through their app easily. Italian was amazing Bamboo was okay. We did not try the Mexican one as there was no air condition there. On our return Air Transat shuttle was supposed to pick us up at 6.35AM. We were ready at 6.20AM after we picked some fruits coffee and sandviches from breakfast area. They open at 7AM but start serving with some options earlier. The shuttle van did not arrive until 7.10AM which made us a bit worried and trying to reach an airtransat agent at that time was not possible, I was still on hold when the van arrived. If we knew the exact time for pick.up we would be able to sleep 40mins more which is a big difference early morning. I recommend this place for not August but for the times with a bit cooler temparatures if they do not add the air condition in common areas. The pool felt so hot on the first day but then we got used to a bit to spend ljke 30 40 mins a day max. Beach was full.of seaweed but not bad smelling ones, looks like a sea plant more than seaweed and you need to walk through them 5 or 6 meters to reach the clear sandy waters of the ocean. We never tried to book some chairs at the beach or by the pool mostly were taken. We were leaving our bag by the beach and never had any lost or stolen item issues. The heat was making us very tired during the day so we managed to go to the beach twice a day, once early morning until 11ish then around 4 5PM again. Never stayed out for the shows we were going to bed earlier than our usual times. We are not planning to go back as we like to try different places, otherwise would definitely go back in March or December but not in summer high heat season. I would like to answer any other questions as I read a lot reviews before going there and was worried with some bad reviews. We mostly.stay in 3.5 4 stars so our expectations were met. Stayed happily!

This is a 3.5 stars resort. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice place but missing the little extra to make it 4 stars. On the plus side: Hotel was super clean, staff friendly and helpfull. It is a quiet resort with limited activities. Always a place at pool or beach. We had access to Viva Wyndham Maya, which was very nice. On the down side, bad music at the pool provided by the staff, always the same music, no seafood at all. Food was a bit dissapointive for Mexico, we usually eat very well in Mexico, but not this time. We had seaweed the first three days of our stay. The other days it was beautiful. Workers work very hard to clean the beach everyday.

Viva Azteca is a nice small resort. The staff was great rooms were decent, great beach and close to shops. The only down fall is the food. I have been on many all inclusive resorts and am not a picky eater. The food was horrible and I would say close to half the guests were sick due to the food. Not many options and there was definatly something wrong. Luckily there is a drug store down the street where you can get immodium so it didnt ruin my vacation! I would go back to that area but not that hotel! As for covid protocal, I think everything is the same as pre covid. The only difference was hand sanitizer was available around all the food areas.

We liked it though the resort is a little bit too far from Cancun Airport. Walking distance to Playa Del Carmen. I would definitely go again. The drinks at the bar are limited to local brands, some of them poor quality. To enjoy a good drink you have to be a "Viva member"

Nice smaller size resort. If you are looking for quieter than average resort with decent food, great service, very clean, and the rooms were great. We had a room close the snack bar that was open late but did not hear any noise after hours.

beautiful place employees are awesome, service was great. we really enjoyed the entertainment the crew were awesome. food ok not enough choice in buffet seemed like always the same food every day. our room didn't like there was water on the floor day in and day out was tired of having wet feet too humid i guess. last 2 days air conditioning in our room didn't work my husband was very upset he likes the bedroom cold sleeps better. Also the day before we were leaving to go home had a note on the door saying that they were going to fumigate our room between 10 am to 4 pm we were not happy about that with all our stuff in the room and having to sleep after they had fumigated. They could’ve done that the morning we were leaving.

This hotel was very relaxing - family environment (great for young kids) - not too many young adults (not a party resort) - entertainment staff aren't too engaged with guests (different than anywhere I've been before) - no fun games by the pool or no music really playing during the day - food was great, lots of options, found something to eat every day (and I'm very picky) - restaurants has no AC gets pretty hot during lunch especially - rooms were amazing, very big, very very clean - beach was a huge disappointment (sand was nice and chairs were comfy but sooo much seaweed. Basically couldn't go in the water unless you found an opening - hotel doesn't clean it out in front of their property)

This was a last-minute booking. I had actually been at the Catalonia Royal Tulum in Riviera Maya earlier in January this year. That resort was brilliant. I expected something a notch below, in view of the fact that I was paying about half this time, admittedly later in the season. In fact I was amazed at the value. Mine was the cheapest room, but very roomy, large bathroom, etc. Friendly staff. Laid-back clientele, mainly western European and South American, and a few Canadians. Very easy-going atmosphere. Few children. No queues to speak of, for anything. Smaller size,at just over 300 rooms. Never a problem finding a beach chair or shade, whereever I wanted to sit. A distinct no smoking area on the beach. Excellent buffet, with theme nights so repetition was minimal. The Italian and Mexican theme restaurants were very good. The former served an excellent filet mignon. The only real problem - not the resort's fault - was the heavy accumulation of seaweed which made normal beach walking difficult. The resort did well to clean it up each morning, so bathers could access the sea. One could still walk on the wide beach, though on soft sand. Located in the Playcar development, it is an easy walk into Playa del Carmen. I actually walked to the ferry and went to Cozumel for the afternoon. I never did use the facilities of the sister Wyndham resort. I couldn't really find a serious fault with this resort. It is at least the 4.2 Sunwing rating. Based on the difference in cost I would choose this over the Catalonia Royal Tulum which I thought was a true 5 star. The difference in the two was minimal.

Staff could not have been more attentive, rooms dated but clean, beautiful beach and were still able to swim in ocean regardless of the seaweed (which s harmless and doesn't smell bad either). We enjoyed the food very much and no long lineups at the buffet or the bars. Great place and service - we will definitely be going back next year!

This is our 2nd visit of this resort. We returned here because we really like the environment inside the resort. It's small, cute, modern and authentic. It has one of the best beaches in Playa de Carmen. 15 minutes walk to Playa de Carmen from the hotel. The food is good, but nothing extraordinary. Rooms are standard - clean and nice. Entertainment is awesome! If you're looking for small, quite, peaceful resort - this is the right place for you!!! We'll definitely come back here again in the future!!!

We enjoyed our recent stay at Viva Azteca. We are repeat guests who have previously stayed at both Azteca and Maya. The rooms were dated, but clean, cool, and quiet. The mattresses and pillows need replacement. Food was decent, we ate most diners in Playa del Carmen as pre planned. Buffet Waiter Alfonzo was most kind and helpful at breakfast and lunch. The resort did very little to clean up the sargassum seaweed that was in abundance. The daily tractor clean up did nothing at the shoreline. (Tractor did not come near the shore due to erosion concerns.) I was only able to swim in the ocean 1 day, next door at RIU Lupitas oceanfront. (They worked hard at raking daily.) We were happy with the value we received aside from the seaweed problem. They are charging an eco tax, (20 pesos per room per day,) but the beaches were only raked once in 9 days buy a local clean up team that did the entire Playacar beach. There are 335 rooms at Azteca at 20 pesos per day..... My expectations were not met as far as beach conditions/maintenance. Viva should participate in the clean up beyond the tractor & burial.

My husband and I stayed at the Wyndham Azteca resort this August. We quickly wished we went somewhere else. Although the staff gave excellent service, the resort itself had too many downfalls. First we were given the wrong room, then the toilet was broken. Next the shower handle broke off in my hand , the blow dryer holder fell off the wall, the power shorted out when my husband was ironing a shirt and i was blow drying my hair. The walls are so thin we could hear the conversations in the next room. The only air conditioning in the resort was in our room. The pool closed at 8 pm. There is no disco. No dancing. No nightlife. We were in bed every night at 9. The Tv had only 1 English channel. The only good thing was the excursions and staff. The hotel needs to be redone. And they need to hire someone to liven up the place. It was very relaxing because there was nothing to do. The pool was ok, but no swim up bar. The ocean was close and worth the visit.

This resort was very very comfortable to be at. The staff was great and made you feel at home there.Everything was just super.The buffet was amazing, everything you would want was there, fresh squeezed juices, plenty of desserts and lots of fruits. excellent...

The hotel is beautiful. The food was above average at both the a la cartes and buffet. The drinks were very good. The staff was amazing. The only downside was the animation staff was not very interactive. I would highly recommend this resort.

The resort is not to much big. People are very kind and remind you. They are not changing too much since our last trip in 2013. We will return next year for our weeding. The animation team is very kind too. they entertain people very good and they have very good talent in dance.
