Great staff and snorkeling , don’t listen to the negatives if your frame of mind is right you will have a great vacation , learn to use the menu in the buffet if you don’t see what you want - the best omelettes in over 20 years of going south

The service was good, from waiters to house keeping. The food was ok but repetitive.The beach is small and not enough chairs. Unfortunately they had a big storm two days before we landed and there was a lot of sea weed (out to the end of the long pier). Rotting sea weed is disgusting. The fans in the rooms really need cleaning, they were brown. In general ok resort, everything is close and the people are friendly.

The beach is small but steps away. Our room was spacious, we had beautiful views off the balcony. The staff was friendly but not always attentive. The only thing I didn't like was the food. There were only two places to eat and the buffet was small. It lacked variety from day to day. The options were rather pathetic.

The physical hotel is nice - in relatively good repair. The housekeeping and groundskeeping staff are the best! Professional and friendly. The rest of the staff seemingly couldn't care less. The food is repetitive. I know it's Mexico but tacos every day?? There is one fresh food station only which results in long lineups. The rest of the buffet is the same day after day. The hotel does nothing to address the no smoking policy. They were in the bar, on the beach, outside the restaurant, in the pool. The hotel did nothing. A $10 taxi ride into town will get you a variety of food and entertainment....but I feel like the hotel should make an attempt. There is zero entertainment here...nothing. No music, no show, no effort. In fact, their motto should really be "we just don't try". Seriously, after dinner there is nothing until breakfast. We had enough after 3 days and left for an airbnb in town. This would probably be a great hotel if you were convalescing from surgery

I have been to Mexico, Cuba and Dominican several times. This resort by far was my worst experience. The food was scarce and consisted of mainly rice, and recycled chicken and beef. No sweet deserts were available, and locating a coffee cup, spoon or ketchup was a challenge. The entire resort stunk like a septic tank (literally waking us up during the night) and the rooms were moldy. The very worst was the toilet that leaked non stop, with no attempt to fix even after reporting this issue, three times. The pools looked clean but one of the whirlpools was disgusting. The best part of the trip was that by some miracle we were not sick! lol

I must say, I was disappointed in this resort. I found the food and alcohol to be substandard. The pool area is shaded a good portion of the day, the pool is ice cold, the beach is very rocky and the waves are so strong there was a red flag up all week indicating a strong undertow, not recommended for swimming. The house cleaning came daily but never removed any dirty dishes from the room.

There were plenty of lounge chairs. Resort was very clean. 3 to 4 star food. Excellent wait staff. Room was spacious and clean. We had a beautiful view from our balcony although the bed was a bit hard. There were big rocks near the edge of beach making it slightly difficult to get in the water. The water was crystal clear which made it good for snorkeling. Saw plenty of fish from the pier.

We stayed 1 week at El Cozumeleno in Feb 2023. The resort lobby and grounds were very clean. The staff were amazing. The food was what you would expect at a Mexican resort - buffet style; one dining restaurant that was tricky to get into. Drinks were plentiful and cold. We snorkelled, played mini golf, corn hole, bingo by the pool and dancing lessons. The people that stayed here were very social. When we walked the beach, we thought we had the best place along the strip. We had a great time. The room itself was cold (19 degrees - day and night). The first day we were there there was no hot water. But all in all it wasn't that big a deal.

Bar service is the reason this hotel recieved this rating. Rooms are ok but no bar fridge and inconsistent cleaning even when requested. Ocean view was un-comparable though... Location is about 90 minutes walking distance from the centre of town... A long walk but duable. Buffet Food is not great... Not great at all. A La Carte was tasty but difficult to get a reservation. Finally figured out the menu at the buffet restaurant and was able to order shrimp and steak on the last night. Pool was cold as were the hot tubs. Both unusable. Vacation gets a 6/10

I am writing this on behalf of my parents. They have been to El Cozumeleno at least 3 to 4 times pre Covid. This year they travelled there for two weeks and returned on March 14th. The experience was horrible. They didn’t like the food as it was the exact same thing every single day to the point where they couldn’t eat anything without feeling nauseous or upset stomach. There was no entertainment like there had been in the past. Barely even any music. The service was extremely slow. The one positive thing is that the grounds were kept clean. With regards to Covid, well my parents are in their mid eighties, they both came home testing positive for Covid! Need I say more! Much to their surprise, when they arrived at the hotel, they were charged $182.00 USD and had to pay immediately. This was supposed to be an all inclusive trip. Other hotels there didn’t charge a dime extra. When I reached out to trip central regarding this charge, apparently the very fine print was at the bottom of the hotel voucher. They received this voucher after paying for the trip and no one made mention to this. I booked this for them online but we had spoken to trip central reps over the phone several times and no mention of this was made.The air Canada rouge flight was a terrible experience as the washroom sinks were plugged up with tape and they only had small packets of hand wipes. The bathrooms were filthy. As far as service goes, they weren’t even offered as much as a cookie on flight. Sad to say that this trip cost them almost double than usual but unfortunately it was the worst experience ever! As I mentioned, they are on old age pension and saved in hopes to have a good vacation, but it was the worst. They would appreciate some form of compensation at least the tax that they had to pay at the hotel!!! All of the people checking in at the hotel were very very shocked to have to pay this tax.

The location was perfect with a nice beach and unbeatable snorkelling right out front of the resort. The buffet on the other hand is hands down the worst we had ever seen and we have been to over 10 resorts. 0 vegan options aside from the vegetables and rice which sometimes had old gross cheese in it. The service was also very slow and would take 30-60 minutes easily to get your food if you ordered a la carte. Some of the servers, particularly the females were very rude and made the experience even more unpleasent. We would consider going back should they improve the food slightly and get more friendly serving staff because everything aside from that was very enjoyable. The bar closes at 11 for those of you who like to drink. COVID restrictions are non existent aside from the workers all wearing masks. The room we stayed in was very large and had a beautiful view of the ocean but we had bed bugs and cockroaches and I left the retreat with massive clusters of bed bug bites, but I suppose that may be common among many resorts. Overall, the resort is in a secluded and beautiful area with an incredible view of the ocean and has incredible snorkelling right out front of the resort, so we would go back for those reasons but the food, service and room issues with bugs were the major down side of our trip.

The hotel is older, somewhat dated but not without charm. Very clean, staff is amazing, food was fair so no complaints. Bed a bit too hard for my liking but yet I slept well after a day outside in the sun, water. I do wish newer and more comfortable chairs on room balcony and perhaps wifi throughout whole resort. The resort is as pictured, no surprises. The beach and clear water was the best and where I spent most days. Again amazing staff, all wearing masks and cleaning always, lots of space throughout resort to keep distance. I had a good week.

The grounds were okay. Lot of rocks to climb over in ocean. The staff were very efficient and friendly. The food was repetitious and very limited choices. Extremely little entertainment. Difficult to obtain chairs or pulapos due to towels dropped on them early in the morning!

The hotel was clean, extremely friendly staff, very accomodating. The buffet does not have a lot of options but the a la carte menu is a great idea. We ordered from that menu mostly for lunch and supper. The rooms are simple and have large balconies and the beds are very comfortable. I love how the resort is so close to the beach. Wherever you are, you can hear the ocean. It would be nice to have evening entertainment. There is movie night twice a week but aside from some music playing in the bar area and only until 10pm, there's no night life.The beach/sand and pool areas are always clean. All staff members are kind, thoughtful and want to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. We will go back for sure!!!

Food sucked. Food ran out often. Listed amenities were not there ie. Internet or only available for extra costs. Staff was amazing though! Absolutely fantastic staff. Probably wouldn't go again. I need more characters so I'm just filling at this point.

I’m going to start with the negatives however the positive far outweigh anything negative. The resort is getting old, the stairways have broken concrete and are in need of paint and repair, the rooms are very clean but the AC is very old and ours broke while we were there. It needs some money put into it to bring it back up to par. That said, the staff are absolutely amazing. The pool and eating area are right beside the ocean. The water is so clear and aqua, we loved snorkelling in the pristine waters. There is a brake that prevents seaweed and harsh waves from coming into the resort area. The kids activities could have been better and there wasn’t any entertainment when we were there however far from a dealbreaker for us. We travelled with our 3 girls aged 8, 13 and 14 and it was a most memorable trip that we would be happy to do again. Cozumel is pretty safe as far as Mexico goes. We rented a car and toured the island and Mayan ruins. Next time we will go downtown. When you arrive at the airport and after getting through border security and customs go straight to your Air Canada rep (if you are lucky enough to fly with them). She will be waiting outside wearing a red Air Canada shirt. She will get you setup with your shuttle to the resort (only 10 minutes away). Otherwise you risk getting bothered by the ATA (Dreams) time share people or other taxi services that you will have to pay for. Also, there will be an Air Canada rep at the resort everyday twice a day to respond to any questions or info on coming back home. Bring lots of US$ singles and tip the workers (room service, servers, cooks etc…) they make your stay wonderful yet they are paid so little. A little goes a long way. Also bring Mexican Pesos and or US$ to pay for any outings. Everything runs on cash. The workers wear masks but we didn’t have to for anyone concerned with Covid. If you don’t like what is being served at the buffet there is a menu you can order from that has more American style food. Be prepared to wait a while longer if kitchen is busy. Also bring some closed shoes, long pants and t shirt or long sleeves to reserve and enjoy The Veranda fancy restaurant. You must reserve your spot starting at 8 am with Roberto near the front desk. Roberto can also set you up with any car rentals or outings you want to do. When dealing with the front desk, see some of the older more experienced employees if you want it done right. I am a bit emotional writing this as it was such an enjoyable experience. I hope you enjoy it too.

The staff at the hotel was very helpful and friendly! The building and room, as well as the dining area were very clean(I'd only suggest they lay out table cloths or mats before serving our meals). We enjoyed our meals. I went with my sister on a sibling getaway and we genuinely had a marvelous time. If I end up going back to that particular location in Mexico, I'd choose to stay at this hotel.

Check in was quick just be aware there is an island fee of about $50/week. they take a room deposit of $150 which is returned at the end of your stay. Everything was very clean, all staff wore masks and were continually cleaning the floors as well as the tables and chairs. Staff was very friendly and were constantly asking, at the beach and pool, if you wanted anything to eat or drink. They served people the same whether or not they were being tipped. The snorkeling right off the beach was good however if you went down the beach, go in by the Westin hotel and you could just float along the reef back to El Cozumeleno. The option of an a la carte supper was great, food was excellent with a lot of variety and the menu changed every two days. The service form the wait staff was awesome particularly the Maitre D - Jaime. Testing for covid was easy with a rapid test result in 2 hours and a certificate provided for proof. We would definitely go back.

The Hotel was big in size very clean. The location was good and the beach and pools were beautiful, the ocean was clean and gorgeous. The food had no taste and often had no real limes, I saw cans of pineapple instead of fresh pineapple. Lack of variety of food. The kitchen ran out of guacamole almost everyday and no fresh avocados or mangos was available Only one choice of wine( house blend) even though there was an empty Merlot bottle advertised. Great with omelette stations and great workers.Loved that they brought in the espresso machine as the one in the bar kept breaking. The workers was friendly, safe,efficient and hard workers. I did noticed that the supervisor or managers seemed unfriendly and harsh towards workers. The hotel rooms was spacious but run down. Leaking air conditioning Water pressure was bad in the showers. The Ceilings had water damages and smelled like mildew.

Pros. Very clean everywhere. Rooms in the older building are huge. The staff was amazing. Very efficient, very helpful, very friendly. Small resort so easy to navigate. You could book an a la carte every night. The food there was very good. Beach was kept clean. Good snorkeling right off the beach. The water was clear. Very nice clean pools. Close to town. Good WiFi in the lobby. We did enjoy our stay. Cons. Check-in was terrible. Took almost an hour. Beach was VERY small. Only 21 palapas for 250 rooms. The buffet was very limited. Food was just OK. No night entertainment (because of Covid?). The beach to the left or to the right was not walkable. Tons of seaweed. Always a sewer smell in the air. There is a water treatment plant just down the road.

This is an older hotel that seems to be just holding on. Ok value for the money. Check in was very slow. Many people we spoke to stood in line for 2 hours or more. They were not offered any refreshments at all and when they went to the bar for something they were denied and told they needed a bracelet. Not very welcoming. Strangely they also took a $150 deposit on a credit card to pay for 'incidentals". Room was clean enough but very dated. we upgraded our room to get a coffee maker and a fridge. Thought we would get a stocked fridge but all we got all week was water. Cleaners were very good. With the room upgrade we were supposed to have beach towels in our room. We had to hunt them down ourselves. Also told to leave our beach towels in the room and they would be changed daily. We tried this once, they took the towels and did not leave us new ones...once again we had to head to the front desk for beach towels. our A/C stopped working on day 2 and took till day 4 to be fixed after asking at least 3 times. Buffet was the same every day for lunch or dinner. Very disappointing food for Mexico. They did have a menu you could order from that was better but they did not always have what you wanted. we went into town a few times and found some great food. Spoke to many people frustrated with the beach towel situation. They never seemed to have enough and some folks could not even get a towel for the first few days. For you Canadian travelers it felt a lot like a 3 star Cuban resort a lot of the time. The beach area at the hotel was very nice, especially when you compared it to the surrounding beaches. Lots of smelly seaweed washing up on shore that seems like a never ending story of cleanup. The break walls around the resort seems to keep the water calmer and cleaner then the surrounding area. If it was calm you could see an abundance of fish so snorkelling can be fun. Seemed like enough beach chairs and places to sit most of the time. The staff were amazing for the most part - the bartenders and waiters were very attentive and the cleaning staff, both for the rooms and the grounds were very hard working and did an amazing job. Overall we had a good time at the hotel and would recommend the hotel to folks on a budget and not to expect to much.

This was my second time to El Cozumeleno, first off it isn't a 5 star, but the staff make you feel like it is. The rooms are huge but are in dire need of a facelift, you can't beat the views as most rooms are Oceanview. The rooms don't have a fridge like most places, but you're really not in the room much. The ala Carte restaurant is a must for dinner, the food is amazing. The buffet is great for breakfast, where you can have your eggs made anyway you want or a nice omelet, you can also order off the menu in the buffet for lunch. The grounds are kept immaculate. If you're looking for a quiet resort this is it. Not much to do after dinner, but the resort is so close to town that for a $7 taxi ride you can go find something to do. I will definitely return in the near future.

Rooms smelled of mold. AC vents were very dirty and smelly. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. Service and staff were excellent. Cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc ccccccccccccccccc

This resort was amazing right from the front desk to the ocean.The food was good the pools could of been a bit warmer.The rooms were big clean and the best is the south tower.You are very close to everything.we didn't have to get up at 6.30 to save chairs or make reservations for dinner a matter of fact one day we made them at 3pm.

we loved this resort. Would go back again. The beach is gorgeous and perfect for snorkeling. Food is good and enough selection for everyone. A la carte is excellent and menu changes every two days. The service was top notch.

My husband & I stayed at this resort 5 years ago & knew that this was where we would like to some day bring our family. We returned home a week ago. We were a group of 12 with 4 young kids. We had such an amazing time! The weather was unusually windy so there was an abundance of seaweed washing up on shore (but the staff worked endlessly to get rid of it) and because of the wind it was mostly too wavy to go in the ocean this time. But the pools are great! The food was better than the last time, and I love that you can order from a menu in the buffet restaurant at lunch time if you prefer. Waitstaff are also very eager to please & are happy to get anything you would like if they can. We enjoyed having the service of Aldo, Andreas & Rodger to name a few. I wish I could remember more names of those who served us well. The resort is only 10 minutes from the airport and about the same to the ferry docks. Taxis are the mode of transportation & are reasonably priced. (95 pesos = approx $7 Canadian for up to 4 people - each way to the ferry docks, twice that much to the airport tho, but our transportation to & from the airport was included with our package. There was enough to keep our family busy. A nice & well kept mini golf course right on site, a kids club room that our grandkids loved. You can also see fairly large fish if it is not too wavy & you can walk out on the longer pier. We fed the fish the day we got into the ocean & they come right up & swim around you. Very cool experience for the little ones to see. Plus they got quite excited to see the 2 resident iguanas that we found near the mini golf area. I liked that servers come around to ask if you want a drink pretty much anywhere you are....even on the beach. So that way if you do go up to the bar yourself, you never have a long line up either. My only real issue was with the front desk on our first day. I had emailed the resort a month ahead telling them of us returning & bringing our family as well & requesting all 5 rooms to be on the same floor. I got an email confirming we would all be on the 5th floor. (& printed that email to take along). When checking in I was told that they only had 3 rooms on that floor. I showed the email & was told after that, that they could come up with 4. More or less....too bad, oh well. The last room was a few floors down with no view of the ocean (because of buildings) like we had paid for. I was quite annoyed with the 'oh well' attitude. They did change the last room to a floor above ours the next day. That was the most they could apparently do unless we waited another day or two to switch. I had planned this dream vacation down to the last 'T' so I was more than alittle disappointed with the end result. But that being said, I know that this seems to be the way most resorts are when it comes to trying to have rooms together. Have dealt with it in the past & probably will in the future so you just have to try to expect that what you request for rooms probably won't happen. The hotel now only supplies one 500ml bottle of water per day in your room. That is not nearly enough for a family of 4 in a room. I know they have water stations but if you don't bring along your own bottles, you can't fill them up yourself unless you save a few days worth of empties. We talked to our Air Canada rep at the hotel & after that we received 2 or 3 bottles each day. Other than that though, it is a wonderful place to stay....and I would go back in a heart beat. Our family has some pretty amazing memories of our time together there.

My boyfriend and I just came back from our week away and it was great value for our money. We were on the south side garden view room which is in the renovated section and I had no complaints but wasn't anything extravagant.It was on the first floor but we still had a clear view of the ocean. AC and beds were good. **If you want your towels changed you have to put them in the shower and put the plastic card with their environmental friendly statement on your bed as they are trying to be more environmentally friendly. Some people we talked to did not know/ read the card and were upset that they were not getting their sheets and towels changed. We ate at the a la carte every night and it was great and had no complaints and would highly recommend. You do have to get up around 7:30 for a reservation but we wanted to make sure we got up early anyways (you can nap on the beach later!). The breakfast in the restaurant was amazing as well and lunch at the buffet was good but you can also ask for the menu and they were more than happy to do that too. Drink of the days were great. Pools were cold. Snorkeling was amazing and water was crystal clear. Staff was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcomed. There is not too much night life so if you're coming to party this is not the place. The down town by the cruise port is beautiful and just 200 pesos (round trip). I did not feel unsafe at all throughout my time downtown. We had a great time, played mini putting, tennis, ping pong and life size chess (lots of things to entertain yourself). We really enjoyed our time here. This is not a boujie hotel but it is great for what you pay for! It was an awesome vacation.

Quiet ,quaint resort with lovely a beach and snorkeling is right there. Only one al la cart restaurant for dinner but line up early it’s worth it. Be sure to order lunch off the menu right on the beach.

Hotel management is the worst management I’ve ever seen or had to deal with. A couple left their 9 year old daughter (who had some medical problems) to watch 6 year old son (brother) on the resort, to go on excursion Christmas Day (2019). Excursion was from 10am to 6pm (or close to). I wasn’t forced but felt obligated to watch these children. Being a parent to 3 children myself, I couldn’t imagine leaving them in a country where they don’t know anyone, and the fact that it was Christmas Day! Hotel did nothing about the situation but ‘talk’ to the parents because it was the second time in a week it has happened. I said what happens if those children get washed out to sea, manager said ‘not my problem, it’s the parents problem!’. I said ‘It’s not my job to watch other people’s children!’ Manager replied with ‘Well thank you for doing that, they are fine right, what more do you want me to do?’ I threatened to call the police. She said no I had to go downtown to do it. Then tried to tell me that their kids club open from 10-5. I said your not allowed to leave the resort. She said kids club is open from 10-5. The management is absolutely useless from there. The staff is good but the front desk don’t care about anything other then your money. Nothing is their problem. They would rather watch two young children get swept out to sea then contact the right authorities. I refuse to EVER go back to this resort. I have contacted CAS here and will be finding out the dads name and filing for neglect of those children!! From a mother to a mother, trust me when I say, this is not a good resort for your children. The amount of cocaine going the through there and the constant smell of weed will ruin your week! The rooms are musty smelling and the beds are super uncomfortable and the sheets have a funny smell. Every time I tried to shower was no hot water! Then check out is at 12. And we weren’t leaving til 9pm because our plane was delayed almost 2 hours. They refused to give me a room for my not even two year old daughter to sleep or nap or give her a break from the heat, before our long ride back to Toronto. They had empty rooms! Just don’t care because it’s not their problem!

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The food was delicious and lots of choices. The service was great. The hotel is clean. I will recommend this resort to everyone. The pool is clean and well maintained. The reception staff were very courteous and friendly. The only dissatisfaction was not enough entertainment and music by the pool side.

This Hotel was fine. We have been there now three times. The staff were, as always, very accommodating. The weather likewise. The Speciality Restaurant was excellent, one of the best. Two little items. There was no mini-fridge in the room, which would have been used by us. The other. The main Buffet was open to birds (Starlings) and they enjoyed the food even more than we did. OH well.

Beautiful location, the buffet is 5’ from the ocean the sunsets were beautiful! The people were all very kind and helpful. The resort/rooms were very clean. The omelettes were fantastic! The food was on the bland side, but you could always find something to eat. I just wouldn’t pick this resort if you’re looking for amazing food. The drinks were great pina’s and Miami vises excellent.

Staff were for the most part friendly and helpful. Pool areas lovely. All rooms appear to be ocean view. We were 'upgraded' from gardenview to third floor with obstructed view. Laughable...Room was in disrepair, old tired and dated. Needed paint and a good overhaul. Bedside table lamps falling apart; flood type bulb pointed at ceiling! Reading out of the question. No clock in room and could not see my watch at night. Muy importante to know time, the reason will become apparent. Shower moldy. Sofa in room dirty and very worn. Bed was comfy as there was egg crate type foam on top of mattress. Towels and sheets worn dingy and grey. One buffet and one a la carte. Food a huge disappointment for Mexico. (We have lived in Mexico and had the best meals in town). The beach towel and chaise lounge hustle is a fiasco. People reserving over night, all day, and chairs not used. When on vacation I don't want to,line up 50 minutes prior to concierge opening up at 8 a.m.for same day dining reservations. Up at the crack of dawn to reserve chaise at beach or pool, hope no one takes it. No clean glasses in room three days running. Asked housekeeper in Español, told to go downstairs or phone housekeeping. I begged at lobby bar finally.We tip housekeeping well BTW. Too bad as hotel has huge potential to be a finer resort. Needs serious upgrades in rooms. Staff members Hugo, Rocio, Helen, Oscar excellent!

Good location not too far from Ferry. Great food and the place is kept clean. Finally we saw Mariachis the last evening we were there. Staff was accommodating and pleasant. We got an upgraded room ( family room instead of two separate rooms as we were a family of 5) . That was fantastic. We had no issues with getting purified bottle water in our room. Found out that the tip we leave in the room was taken from the supervisor instead of the cleaning lady. So we gave the lady directly her tip when we could. Only one bad thing.... the cocktails are made with a liquid of artificial sugar.. like splenda. They taste very bad. Finally one server told us how to ask for the original recipe.... Asucar Natural (in Spanish) We did excursions like the snorkeling but no need to pay extra when you have plenty of fish to see at our own beach. Great vacation.

The hotel is old, but the people are friendly. There is an outdoor restaurant and the food was quite good. There is only one restaurant with a dress code on the hotel's premises. Unfortunately, you have to line up at 7am in the morning in order to get a table in the nice restaurant. The pools are nice and there is snorkeling at the hotel's beach. Lot's of fish to be seen there while snorkeling. There are a lot of excursions to be done. A friend took me for a volkswagen ride on the island. I also did a catamaran tour including snorkeling in the coral reefs as well as visiting the ruins at Tulum and one of the Cenotes.

The hotel was old, air conditioning didn’t work properly, beds were horrible, long lines for drinks, ran out of beach towels, not enough towels in rooms, no facecloths, would only leave 1 bottle of water per day in a room for 2 people, not enough chairs or shade, long line up at the bar, food was not very good, didn’t clean rooms until late afternoon, same food - only 1 buffet restaurant, line up at 8:00 am to make reservations for (nice) restaurant, if not there early couldn’t get reservations. The best thing about the hotel was the snorkelling.

Safe place to travel.with all the Madness in the world,good to know a little piece of heaven.Considering it was Donna's first flight,first Holiday.Many first were shared and enjoyed..The trip central staff are number ONE !!!! Thanks again.Can hardly wait to do it all over next year !!!

This resort was OK! They were beautiful views from the ocean view rooms, we did get a free upgrade. Breakfast and lunch were good, dinner was a bit difficult sometimes. One buffet and one à la cart. We had the à la cart two nights and both are great meals but the buffet nights for dinner were lacking. The servers were amazing and attentive, the pool could’ve been cleaner, overall not a bad resort. Three stars at best !

This resort is a very nice little resort. The grounds are well kept, rooms in the newer 9 story building were all well kept and very clean. Pool was cleaned regularly and the Staff were awesome. The location was great, service at the pool was awesome, snack bar and a la cart staff were fantastic, but, we also had a few things we didn’t like. We arrived at the hotel at 11 pm and there was no food or snack bar open to eat anything. The lobby bar closed at 11pm as well so we could do nothing but unpack. There is no night life at this hotel which wasn’t a big deal for us as we went into town most nights. Another disappointment is that we had to wake up at 6 am to stand in line until 8 am to book the a la cart for dinner. It was rediculous. Other than that we still had a great vacation and enjoyed the resort.

We were welcomed with an upgraded oceanview room with a lovely message and chocolate covered strawberries welcoming us which was very kind. The grounds were beautiful and the 2 people that stand out as wonderful customer service people were Martha at the front desk and Fredrico in the lobby. The food was average, loved the restaurant for breakfast in the morning. Having to wait in line every morning to book the alacarte was not for me, that should be changed to everyone at least once getting a chance to have one booking during your stay without the wait. We noticed that when ordering off the menu at least 4 people took care of you and they didn't work together which meant either your food was cold after a 35-40 min. wait or that the order was wrong, this should be addressed by management . The beds were very uncomfortable, but the rooms were quite nice. Everything was very clean and all in all it was a very nice week away. From Ontario, Canada

Great location, service and beach. Rooms really dated but clean. Food very poor - food poisoning outbreak during our stay and EVERYONE was ill, many for days. Is hand washing hygiene enforced with the kitchen staff? From what I saw, it isn’t.

My wife and I both love the Cozumeleno Beach resort. Despite staying in the dated part of the hotel (room 409) the cleanliness and the view from the balcony was truly worth it, as we were able to see the beautiful sunsets, and the many cruise ships pass by the hotel each night. The food was good, and despite only having one buffet, it is the only resort we have ever been to that gives you the option to also order off a menu, for lunch right in the buffet. You could also order from the menu in the Ala carte restaurant for breakfast. The beach is small but protected from the wind and ocean surf by two cement piers that make it very calm an safe. a definite advantage over the Hotel Milia, which also had a good beach, but ha no protection from the seaweed, and surf that hit mid-week, making it less than fun to go in the water. The El Cozumeleno remained always great for swimming and had plenty of fish and excellent snorkeling. The pools are clean, but not heated, however we are beach people. There were always lots of chairs. The resort had not much entertainment at night, and things were quite evening. If you are looking for more to do at night than perhaps Cancun or other parts of Mexico, might be better for you. We found the staff very friendly with a genuine interest in getting to know you, and provide great service. A shout out to Gloria, Aldo, and Emanuel. The resort is on the north end of the island, and a short cab ride($8) from San Miguel and shopping. The final added bonus was the direct flight to the Cozumel airport instead of having to fly into Cancun and then sit on the bus for 35 to 60 minutes. We were told this perk may be ending for the season. (We were down from March 16 to 23, 2018), so if you're interested you should check. That's it .. definitely a great spot for a safe, relaxing vacation. Would go back again.

The good... food improves yearly, always plenty of good choices... the grounds are kept immaculate...the staff are top notch caring people with a sense of humour...snorkling is so cool in ultra clear blue water...your week will fly by.... The not so good... the bed mattresses and the seat cushions in the dining room need replacing, worn out, plain and simple...these are important and easy to fix.... for visitors comfort is mega important.

This hotel is for the folks who get up early and want a quieter time. We chose El Cozumeleno because of the snorkelling and that was truly amazing! Right at the beach. The fish are so used to being fed that the minute you walk in, they are looking for it. We liked to take a half apple in and hold the stalk and they would swarm your hand while feeding. This is one of the few hotels in Cozumel that has a large sandy beach - others are very rocky (it's reef territory) The hotel is dated both the "new" south end and the "old" north wing, but very comfortable and clean. The rooms are huge with amazing ocean views and balconies/patios! Staff are amazing and always quick to try and comply with special requests where possible. Only 1 a la carte is disappointing and you have to start the daily line-up by 6:30 am to get a decent time slot for that night, which didn't matter to me as I had a book and met some great people in that line. But, it meant that I did not get to the gym as much as I had planned. The food and service in the a la carte were excellent. I could not understand the requirement to return beach towels EVERY day by 7pm and chose not to. Was disappointed in the lack of evening entertainment. I think 3 evenings/week had something going but it was very amateur. Everything shuts down by 10pm.

Small resort in need of repair and upgrades that tries to please, but with limited options. Some things are done well and others MISS THE MARK completely. First room dingy, dirty, old located on the edge of the resort overlooking old dilapidated buildings covered in dead vegetation and not acceptable according to our travel reservation. After numerous complaints with management and over 24 hours later it was changed to an appropriate room with beautiful ocean view. This is a waste of time and energy for guests who just want to relax without conflicts or changes. Unless you are an early riser, beach chairs, fluffy towels, dinner reservations are rarely attainable after 8 am. Who wants to set your alarm on your vacation to assure some comforts? Another MISS by management to upgrade the experience. After a few days you learn to be creative and adapt. On a positive note ... great weather, beautiful, clear turquoise water and amazing sunsets with many servers who hustle for your approval and try hard to please. We were fortunate to book this resort at a good discount months in advance anticipating an affordable family, group trip. BUYER BEWARE ...Do not over pay or have reasonable expectations for this resort or you will be disappointed and MISS the MARK. Plan to return to beautiful Cozumel, but not this resort unless changes and upgrades are completed.

This was a family holiday for my husband and 3 adult kids. We were given adjoining rooms on ground floor as requested All of us loved the grounds and beach, with many swimming pools Best of all is the bar service on the beach Food was fine, lot of variety each night, fresh fruit and enchiladas made to order, great guacamole in afternoons The staff work hard This is not a 5 star hotel but was just fine with us, above average, clean and well staffed We would definitely go back!

The food was very bad and of poor quality. No fresh fruit such as apples, bananas offered. Margarine had a vanilla flavor, obviously made local and of poor quality no butter. Food at snack bar, not replenished, and stall unattended had to find waiter to order from the kitchen. Meat offered consisted mainly of chicken, pork and little roast beef or steak OR COLD CUTS offered. The dishes, and cutlery appeared to be poorly washed and dirty, cheap paper napkins in buffet. The buffet area had mostly men waiters, who doubled as cleaners, but observing them clean they were the pits, The staff were more concerned about filling drinks, so they could get tips from drunken vacationers. I used self serv pop and juice stand near swimming pool and pressed juice and large bug spilled out into my cup .The drinking cups were made of plastic and since dishes looked poorly washed. how clean were these cups. I don't think the kitchen staff used javex to kill the germs. The swimming pool and hot tub were dirty, even thou I saw staff clean pool with a vacuum in the mornings. The swimming pool and hot tub which was cold needed to be shocked with chemicals to remove the bacteria from so many people swimming and peeing in the pool. Also the towels and sheets needed to be washed better, perhaps add bleach to clean them better. Little entertainment offered. My overall impression of the hotel is that they cut corners to save money and the staff working there are local poor people, who most likely live in very squalored conditions who don't have the same standard of cleanness as most Western countries. Also these men working there worked very hard to refill drink glasses to get their tips. I suspect, they must have big families to support and these resort jobs are plumb jobs to have . I will never return, this resort is a 2 rating.j

The staff is what makes this place. Whether they are front desk, waiters, housekeeping, bartenders, groundskeepers they are amazing. I’m sorry I don’t remember all their names. One of the waiters, Angel remembered us from the other year we stayed and welcomed us back. I would say the only negative would be not much of a variety at the buffet. We are already talking about when we can go back. Thank you so much Cozumeleno staff.

My boyfriend and I went here for New Years. The service was amazing, as was the snorkelling at and near the resort. The room was very large though a bit outdated (we were in the smaller tower). The food at the reservation restaurant was amazing and the buffet food was decent. Bring water shoes if you want to walk down the beach (for the rocks) and bring your own snorkel equipment if you have it or buy it for cheap downtown. You only get one hour per day of free snorkel gear rental and anything longer than that is 10 USD per person. They do sell snorkelling equipment at the activities desk but it is quite pricey for what you actually get. Ask for a high floor, the first 3 floors are blocked by palm trees in many places whereas anything above that has an incredible view of the ocean. Bring bug spray, depending on how much of a breeze there is the mosquitos can be quite bad at night time (like when you eat dinner at the buffet restaurant which is not enclosed). The wifi in the lobby is quite unreliable however they do have 2 computers in the lobby which you can use and we found those worked a lot faster than trying to use a laptop or phone. Overall we had an amazing time and were blown away by the service. I would go back!

My experience at el cozumelano was amazing. The staff was polite, kind,helpful,attentive and always pleasant. The hotel grounds was always sparkling clean. The rooms was cleaned everyday and bed made beautiful. There was always a staff member to call on if you needed something. The food was amazing and there was always tons. If something you wanted was not there and you asked staff for it they would find it for you.

I found the hotel surprising good . The staff could not do enough for you the food better than I expected. In general the hotel and area very well maintain a bit dated but overall a excellent vacation and yes we will be going back

Beautiful location. A1 hotel. Friendly professional staff and really excellent alacart restaurant. I'd definately go again. Town is a $7 cab ride away. Golf across the road. Plenty of scuba bear by. The hotel staff really is top drawer.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, food was not out of this world but okay. We were with a large group and were taken care of very well. The weather was very cooperative with highs in the low 80's everyday

1) lovely beach, snorkeling is fantastic 2) pretty grounds, pools are pretty but cold 3) guest rooms are sub par, noisy AC 4) lovely beach huts but must reserve one by 7am 5) order food to your beach hut, very good if ordered off menu for lunch 6) breakfast buffet is nice, lovely view of ocean 7) it is worth getting in line at 7am to get a daily reservation at La Veranda. Excellent service and the food is very nice! Dress code but it is easy, they are fine with running shoes, jeans and a nice top (no shorts, jumpers, flip flops etc) 8) Buy your own snorkeling gear to really enjoy all day fun. Pools are cold but Ocean is super warm 9) note that most places in Cozumel only take cash including the steak/lobster house down the road 10) ATM at hotel next door gives $USD Overall, this hotel was great. The service is fabulous and the drinks keep coming all afternoon on the beach. Food was good if you did the breakfast buffet, ordered off menu for lunch on the beach or at one of the little bistros and did the La Veranda for dinner. If you can put up with getting up early to have an incredible beach hut and dinner reservation and don't mind an old hotel room with possibly a very loud AC this is a great resort with super value for the $$$.

The grounds were beautiful, but not enough shade or chairs. We enjoyed the mini - golf . The dinners were not so great. The desserts were pretty much the same every night. but the breakfast and the lunches were o.k. All the people working were great and very helpful. We were very disappointed in the entertainment at night.

The staff were very nice , friendly and attentive . They had crutches at the front desk for us to borrow. Close to town when we needed medical supplies , only 95 pesos each way . The food was very good in the restaurant .

A great place for couples. Very quiet resort. Drinks and food only available from 7am-11pm. Pool bar closes very early. Same food served daily - very little variety on a day to day basis. Resort is very close to Cozumel which is convenient for night life and shopping. Great snorkelling and swimming at resort beach. I got absolutely covered in bug bites - sand fleas and mosquitos I think. This has never happened to me at a resort before. My fear was bed bugs however I never found any in the room. Bring lots of spending money if you are an active person as there is very little to do on the resort. Beautiful sunsets and large rooms!

The resort itself was spotless. The employees were constantly cleaning and scrubbing everywhere. I found everyone very friendly from waiters, bartenders maids and even the gardeners and maintence staff. The bed was quite comfortable. We quite liked our room. The beach towel policy was bizarre. Towels had to be returned daily at 7pm for laundering. At other resorts, if they are dry, I don't exchange them, as I like to limit unnecessary laundering. The only thing that I found disappointing was the food. We didn't make it to the single a la carte restaurant for supper, as we could not get inappropriately timed reservation. We did go there for breakfast but found we waited almost an hour for the food. We went at lunch too, and it was much better. The buffet restaurant was so repetitive, it was exhausting. Basically, fajitas were offered from the grill for lunch and dinner every day. The food in the buffet table was often cold. Coffee was very inconsistent, but mostly poor. Desserts were very unappealing, with a very limited selection. There was lovely fresh fruit and vegetables daily which we did enjoy. The sausages were delicious and my husband was pretty happy that there was bacon daily, albeit given in limited amounts. Some of the things I really enjoyed included snorkeling. Octopus, eels,stingrays pufferfish, peacock flounders, and filefish were some of the fish that I saw right in front of the hotel. Animation team - Spanish classes were terrific. Muchas gracias a mis profesores, Alexis, Angel y Diego excelentes. You guys made my week, mis amigos! Also I enjoyed the snorkelling tour and the water aerobics classes. The rock band, Karma https://m.facebook.com/karmacozumel/ and @karmacozumel was great fun. Of all the nightly entertainment shows we have seen at all-inclusive resorts, I enjoyed this the most. Very well done, especially how they picked songs that were appealing to so many age groups. Well done, Fernando, for getting these guys. On the day we were leaving, we were so excited to see dolphins swimming in front of the hotel. That was a lovely end to a fabulous week!

We had been here 4 years ago and decided to return for a week - we love Cozumel and the fact that this resort is so close to town made it a good option. It is only 10 minutes away from the airport as well - the beach is amazing, with fish swimming around you all the time, great for snorkelling. The service was great, drinks served on the beach, buffet food was always a good variety, and if you didn't like that, could order from the menu, they also offer room service for meals. There is a nice dining room for a sit-down 3 course meal The cons: Hot tub cold and dirty, but we don't do hot tubs Swimming pools a bit on the cool side, but with the ocean there and hot sun, who cares? Not enough lounge chairs, unless you want to get up at 6 a.m. to reserve one Staff are great and very attentive - even when the power was off for 1 day, the town's doing - they rose to the occasion and we hardly noticed! We came back relaxed and happy

Overall rooms and lobby area need updated Art work. Rooms need updated top blanket. Lobby internet is weak. Lobby could use better lighting or raised ceiling if possible. Clean pools and grounds

We stayed here with our 2 young kids (5 and 8 years old)and absolutely loved it! Room was incredibly big with a nice balcony overseeing the ocean. Very clean throughout the resort and grounds are well maintained. The food from the main restaurant was good. Every day there was a selection of fresh fish, seafood, chicken or beef from the grill. Kids loved the beach, pools, mini putt, snorkelling, and feeding the fish off the pier. We would definitely recommend this resort!

Hotel was nice, Clean rooms no issues with room at all -my highest priority Food was very tasty but no variety seemed to be same options everyday day -luckily I love fresh Tacos! Restaurant portions are very small and very few seating's each night - ask for absolute or Smirnoff they have it hidden - Tips didnt seem to make a difference in my level of service - Very limited hotel entertainment - Make your own fun bring movies to watch Beach was always windy and closed many days - with red flag warning all week- snorkeling with low visibility Check in was late 11pm and no food at all available - - hotel check in clerk said restaurant was open late but it had already closed - internet access was only on the lobby but I was unable to get any access You get what you pay for - low cost - clean and spacious room -

We got a great price through Katreryna at tripcemtral and great service frime her as well. Elcozumeleno was a very nice place to stay. Staff is excellent and rooms are nice , big and clean. Food in the restaurant where you make reservations was excellent. The buffet at breakfast was great lunch could have been more variety and a bit better. They did have a menu to order from so we did that most of the week and that was great. Really good for snorkelling, the fish swim right beside you. One morning a baby crocodile showed up but it was contained quickly and we were assured that this was the first time that it has happened. All in all an excellent and relaxing time at this resort.

I have been to this hotel once before and decided to return. I enjoyed my stay here so much. The grounds were clean, food was good, and the al a carte even better. The weather was great except for a couple of windy days but we needed a break from the sun. We were not able to snorkel because of the jellyfish but that was no ones fault, I'm sure they have cleared out now. Im not a picky person so I really saw nothing wrong here. The cleaning ladies did an excellent job on our room and ALL the other staff was fantastic, working from morning till close and always pleasant. We particularly enjoyed the photographers, Pepe and Diego, had fun talking with them and my friend that I travelled with had a private photo shoot which gave her wonderful memories of her first visit to Mexico. A special thanks to Gabriel the waiter and Pepe the Piano player in the al a carte for the great service and entertainment.

We found this resort to be more than acceptable in almost all areas. The food was very good with a wide selection, the snorkelling off the shore was excellent and the swimming was fairly good. Sometimes it seemed like the front desk staff should have had more information about their own resort i.e. times of restaurants, policy re: extending room stay. Really it seemed to be one person in particular - maybe he was new? Otherwise the staff was excellent - all of them - restaurant staff, room staff etc. Truly an enjoyable holiday.

When we first got out of the taxi it all started.the service was tremendous.when checking in i asked for an ocean view room and was upgraded.while we waited a few minutes for our ocean view room we toured the grounds.from that ,we knew we picked the right resort.the food was good as was the great service.we went snorkeling for about 2 and a half hours a day which was outstanding as we saw lots of different fish.all in all it was an outstanding vacation and i will be going back to the El Cozumeleno Beach Resort.

We are returning guests who first came to El Coz in 1996. We keep coming back because of the atmosphere which is welcoming and casual. The staff is always willing to help from the front desk down to the men raking the beach! As usual it was clean, the food was good and the piano player in the a la carte is not to be missed.(He was ancient 18 years ago) but still plays a mean Phantom.

There were many things that were unexpected on this trip. The unlimited free room service was awesome, I wish we knew about it from the beginning or we would have had breakfast everyday in our room. No fridge, coffee maker, or iron in the room. 2 room temperature bottles of water given everyday. Great view from the room. Pool was very cold; the ocean was warmer. Pool side service was amazing, they brought you drinks and food right to your chair. Snack bar was ok, it really only had nachos, hot dogs, lunch meat, and buns; sometimes chicken nuggets and only once did it have french fries. Beach restaurant at lunch was pretty good, the only thing was if you ordered off the menu it took forever. The dinner buffet wasn't very good at all. There is only one a la carte restaurant and sometimes it took a long time to get food and the menu wasn't the best. You have to line up by 8 am to get a reservation and most people were lined up by 7 am and waited around for an hour to reserve, one morning it was as early as 6:30 that people started to line up. We ordered room service a couple of times for dinner. New Years Eve was a real disappointment. They had a "party" set up in the banquet hall that had no windows to the outside an consisted of tables and chairs and a band. No fireworks, no champagne (unless you wanted to spend $35 for a $5 bottle or $150 for a better bottle). We ended up sitting on our balcony and watching the fireworks coming from the mainland. Last year we were at a resort on the mainland for New Years and it was an amazing party so we were really disappointed. Very relaxing, the usual activities throughout the day: volleyball, aqua aerobics, yoga, bingo, etc. The mini put was really good, well maintained and a challenge to play; hole 14 was out of service though. The beach has a lot of sea shells and sometimes glass, my husband cut his foot on a shell while playing volleyball and actually found glass in the court as well. The ocean was awesome. While you are swimming you will be swarmed by tons of fish, kids would love it (I loved it!). Sometimes there would be a strong smell of sulphur coming from next door which was unpleasant. We would probably go back to this resort, but not during New Years. Knowing what we know now, it would make the trip better the next time. Communication between guests and the resort was lacking, a lot of things would have been better had we known about them.

WE STAYED AT EL COZUMELENO IN COZUMEL EARLIER THIS YEAR (FEBRUARY) AND THE SELECTION OF FOOD WAS MUCH BETTER IN FEBRUARY THAN IT WAS NOW - EXAMPLE - ONE MORNING FOR BREAKFAST WE COULDN'T GET SAUSAGE OR BACON AND AT LUNCH THERE WERE NO TOMATOES, CUCUMBERS FOR THE GREEK SALAD. EACH DAY WAS TOO MUCH OF THE SAME FOOD FROM THE DAY BEFORE. NOT ENOUGH VARIETY.

Arrived Nov 5 check in very smooth room was spacious and amazing views. Shower was hot but not great flow. Buffet had limited selection for dinner but the reservation restaurant was excellent. We could order from menu for breakfast and lunch. Pool was cold and beach is rocky but once in snorkellinh wa great seeing many fish

My husband and I traveled to the El Cozumeleno the first week of March. The resort is close to the airport check in was very fast. Our room was on the 4th floor of the older section it was wonderful. Very large rooms, although the first couple of days the air conditioner was loud. The ocean view from our room was stunning.We preferred the older section as it was quieter with what we felt was the nicer beach. The food at this resort was hit and miss. Breakfast was always good, lunch was alright. If you wanted a good meal eating in the a la carte is the best choice. You can make reservations easily each morning. One of the main reasons we choose this hotel was how close it is to town. Having dinner in San Migual was great. The snorkeling right in front of the hotel was fun lots to see if you walked to the left on the hotel for 10 minutes you can let the currant push you slowly back and enjoy the sights. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We would definitely return.

We were at Cozumeleno Cristmas 2013 . Perfect place for snorkeling. You can feed fish at 10 metres from beach. It is ideal view from room to observe ocean cruises, delisious meal, hot jakuzzi at evening under stars and of corse tequila. All rooms are ocean view. It is very smart. Polite stuff. We plan to go next year.

There is little I can say about that isn't stellar. The service was great, never had such service at a hotel of this value. The grounds were very clean, the rooms were large and comfortable and the food was delicious and plentiful. My only concern was that the pools were just a bit too cool for me, thank goodness for the hot tub, even in the rain the servers kept the refreshments coming. Thanks!.

The hotel is clean and welcoming. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent beach and great snorkelling. Good food and entertainment. Very family oriented but also excellent for the younger crowd as there are two pools on either side of the resort, the family pool and the party pool! We have stayed here 5 times now and have taken friends and family here and we cannot wait to go back.
