Issues with Tripcentral: --------------------- We contacted Wendy as we had booked with her in the past as she had booked us exactly what we were looking for. This time around, we said money was not an issue, but book us something for two adults and 10 and 12 year old boys. Something great for kids. She suggested the Jewel Runaway Bay as being the best option and we took her word for it. The room was advertised as a Junior Suite with two beds. My impression was that she must know there is a cot, or being a suite there is a pull out bed or something for the kids. We arrived on site, and the room had two double beds, about three feed apart from on another. The room was very small, and unkempt (burnt out lights, broken tiles, dirty, peeling privacy glass). The bathroom door is a swing glass door that opens to the shower, no way to lock it, and no privacy at all with children. When we saw the room, we emailed Wendy and said there was not enough space for our family, and were told there was nothing she could do and to contact Sunwing directly. We called the 1-800 number, and were told nothing that they could do, but to talk to the hotel. The hotel said cots would not fit in the bedroom, and we couldn't pay for an upgrade because of max capacity. This was quite disheartening on our first night, and I really am surprised by Tripcentrals response, support and overall booking experience given our positive experience in the past. I think this is the part that bothers us the most, is booking through a travel agent, and not being given these kids of "heads up". Why even book through an agent? Review of resort: --------------------- We stayed in JRB from Feb 23rd 2020 to Feb 30th 2020. The first building we were booked in (see above for details) was not maintained and dirty. The subsequent nights we were moved into another room in a different building which was night and day. Much more clean and maintained. Overall, the resort is beautiful but you can clearly see how costs are being cut. We have stayed in many different resorts and this is the first one where many shortcuts are taken in the guise to save money. For example, when you go to the restaurants, you are not served alcohol. You have to walk out of the restaurant and pick up drinks at the bar and bring them back to the restaurants. The buffet it is fairly easy to have wine as long as you ask, but again it takes a good 15-20 mins for a glass after you ask. I recommend that before you go to the restaurant, grab a glass or two and bring it with you, and just accept that this is normal. The food for a 4-star is sub-par. The Japanese restaurant one appetizer is a frozen vegetable spring-roll you buy at the supermarket. Literally one cabbage spring-roll in plumb sauce. At the Platinum restaurant there is a tuna appetizer. They give you three dime sized see through pieces of tuna. Such cost cutting methods it is just unreal. Honestly the restaurants are nothing to rave about, the food is mostly sub-par. You can go down the road and pay for a nice meal at Sharkies. There is no fresh seafood available at all outside of soggy shrimp or really soggy cold smoked salmon. But recall you can't actually give yourself the cold smoked salmon because it's costly, they have it behind the glass and they serve it you. Fruit is mostly melons and pineapple. The fresh fruit juice smoothie stand is a nice option. There is one beer left (not even red stripe) in the fridge at night, and after 2am no alcohol is accessible even though the website advertises 24/7 drinks. Kids functions: --------------------- Advertised laser tag was not available. Kids never went across to the ranch, never was an option given to them. They played capture the flag at night and they loved it. The staff are incredible! The water park is amazing, and makes up for missing amenities. Kids can go up to any of the bars and grab lime juice, smoothies or whatever else. Staff --------------------- The staff make up for the sub-par food and lacking amenities. What an amazing crew they have there. We had an absolute blast getting to know them and hanging out. Made several friends and felt safe letting the kids be independent. Can't say enough about the staff. They addressed our concerns and have welcomed us back next year on them, what incredible people. Tripcentral and Sunwing can really learn from their customer service. We are really looking forward to going back just to see the people again. Also saw the lifeguards save a little boy from drowning. When there are waves, there is a very strong current by the reef so be vigilant. Warning --------------------- Our 10 and 12 year old were diagnosed with hookworm this morning. Please keep an eye on your feet as it is an ongoing issue in many of the reviews here. Started on their feet and on their legs a bit, but because of the reviews we were watching for it.

Rooms were decent, the resort itself was beautiful, the staff was 100% top notch amazing, beach extremely clean, amazing family resort, we would go back in a heartbeat. Water park inside is very good and fun for everyone. Again the staff made this trip even better!

Great food, beach and people. Rooms are aged and in need of repair and updating. Air-conditioner not working properly, also sliding doors wouldn’t slide and the safe needed to be repaired before using, the room door electronic lock needed repaired twice, Although the staff responded quickly and were friendly it was still an inconvenience.

Everything about this family vacation was truly amazing! Monika was so helpful and professional! We highly recommend her. The resort was fantastic, the people are beyond accommodating, food was great and rooms were very clean! The Waterpark is amazing just like the staff.

I would highly recommend this hotel! I’ve been to Cuba and Dominican so many times but this hotel by far is the best we’ve stayed at. Our room was always clean in fact in was cleaned twice a day! Also, every washroom on the resort was always clean no matter what time of day or what washroom you went in it was always immaculately clean and never out of supplies. The staff were so friendly and where there to help you with everything. The food was amazing. And it was plentiful. Food at the water park, food on the beach, food at the snack bar and Buffett! That’s not including the four restaurants that were open for dinner! I can’t begin to explain how beautiful the beach is. The water was crystal clear, we would bring bread and feed the fish every morning. We got lucky with the weather as the only time it rained was when we were pulling away from the resort back home. We are definitely going back next year!

It was ok, older resort, not enough staff to clean it. The beach is amazing but the food was a hit or miss in the buffet. The Italian restaurant was a joke, the dishes were terrible with-no flavour or good texture. Pizza restaurant was the best bet, good cheese and dough although the service is slow and they dont seem like they really give a shit. A few employees had a bad attitude but most staff were pleasant.

Grounds well kept - rooms were clean - a little dated - food usual buffet fare - you could place a special order with the chef if would like something specific to eat but hotel does not advertise this - found this out by accident - Access to ocean great. Drinks were made with local liquor not premium liquor. Great time to go as hotel not busy except for week-ends when there were a lot of people there for the week-end which caused line-ups at the waterpark and restaurants. You either had to wait to ge a tube for the lazy river or didn't get one at all. Kid friendly resort. Entertainment o.k. on week-end but not during week.

This was our second time visiting this resort and we loved it! The hotels are close to the beach, pool and water park. The kids really enjoyed the water park and it helped to break up the day. The only downside is that there are not enough tubes for the lazy river so you have to get there early. Other than that it’s really good. There is food for everyone ... the kids had pasta, chicken tenders , burgers , hot dogs. We mainly ate at the buffet and they had a good selection everyday and everything tasted good. The platinum had amazing food. The place is really clean and there’s a bar at every corner. They also have a jerk hut in the beach that was sooo gooodd! It wasn’t over crowded we always got a beach chair by the sand or by any pool. I would recommend this resort to anyone with a family,

Amazing resort, amazing beach, amazing waterpark, amazing food, and most importantly, amazing people! Coral reef right in front of the hotel. Throw some bread in the water and you will be swimming with hundreds of beautiful fish. Better than going on any snorkeling excursion. As for excursions, highly recommend Dunns River Falls and Konoko Falls. FYI's: Drive from airport is about 1:45 ish; get your beach towels early bc they run out, most excursions serve jerk chicken only (two that we went on); bring water shoes; atm machine right on resort; waterpark also open to the locals (who are very kind) so it tends to get pretty busy during the day, slows down after 4, stays open til 6; beach area is very windy but the breeze feels nice; hot but not humid; quiet resort; only restaurant w AC is Caribbean, however no need for AC bc of the breeze; only need reservations for one restaurant (tapanaki/Japanese); no strict dresscode; 3 pools, main pool no swim-up, infinity pool does but its pretty shallow and often full of kids (strange they would have the bar there🤷‍♀️); great entertainment, always something to do Definitely returning! We had a good week at this resort. We originally booked a premier room and upgraded to an ocean front junior suite upon arrival. I would highly recommend. Staff were great, very friendly. Food was good. Japanese and Italian were you our favourite. Buffet could be better. Soft ice cream was great! Kids loved it. For the price, good vacation. Francine Small cleaned our room all week and she was amazing! My daughter loved the daily animals made of towels! Water park was fun but tended to be crowded with local school kids most days. Unsure if due to end of school year? Breakfast was extremely crowded on Sunday as well. Overall good experience.

It was not what we were expecting at all! I went with my husband and my 2 kids,6yrs and 7yrs old. It was an Okay hotel it's NOT modern. First, there were no towels in our room when we arrived to the hotel. We had to keep asking the front desk to provide us with more. Second, there was no good entertainment as we were use to alot more variety like in Dominican Repulic Bahia Principe Fantasia was the BEST for families as it cost almost the same. I can say though, the food in the Japanese, Buffet and Italian was good, especially the Jerk chicken. The water park and the beach was the best part but other than that my family and I will NOT be returning.

Jewel Runaway Bay was a fantastic getaway. Our room was fantastic (premier), clean and located in the topaz building right beside the infinity pool and water park, which was great as that's where the kids stayed! Food choice was great! Staff are friendly and helpful. Snorkeling was amazing, beach was clean and never overly crowded (end of may). The availability of the free water sports was good. The pools were clean and loungers were always available. (go early for shade) WIFI is not reliable but you can find access in the main lobby or by the kids clubs. My only complaint was the inconsistency in the kids activities and night time entertainment. I think this was mostly given to the time of year we visited, as things would be canceled with no communication given or entertainment would be different from what was listed on the daily itinerary.

Rooms - Dated, but clean. Biggest issue was consistency. We had 2 rooms, 1 room got towels daily the other lacked towels at least 50% of the days there. Housecoats in one room only , Spare toilet paper in one room but not the other. The beds were super comfortable and lots of English TV stations. No snacks but 8 bottles of water and a couple soft drinks and beers daily. Beach - fantastic, lots of chairs, close to bars, snorkeling right off beach. Beach towels are an issue. Golf - Course was really dried out. The greens and tee boxes were good but the rest was yellow. A bit dissapointing, expecially since renting clubs was 40 each, plus caddy and cart fee made golf about $150 (USD) plus drinks and tip. Water Park - Was fun, did get a bit busy but a great extra perk. Food - Excellent, everything except dining under the stars (food was cold, less selection). Everyone was happy with restaurants and the buffet shockingly did change many items throughout the week. The jerk hut was fantastic. Service was just okay. A few bartenders went out of their way for tips but overall was only impressed by a couple of waiters.

The staff are amazing and the small resort makes it better to get to know the staff and to build a relationship with. My kids had a blast and want to go back. 3.5 star in quality of the hotel but a 5 star for the kids club staff. The hotel itself is a bit outdated.

We enjoyed our stay. The resort was dated but very well kept. The beach was beautiful and the water park kept my child very well entertained. The food we thought was good with a lot of variety. We would return.

Second trip to Jewel in 2 yrs. Pros: Grounds are well kept. Variety of good quality food. Very accommodating to allergies. Waterpark is excellent with something for everyone. White sand and turquoise water. Friendly staff. Very comfortable beds. Excellent water pressure and temperature. Stone oven pizza is great. Snorkeling right off the beach. Cons: very difficult to get beach towels - would recommend bringing a couple of your own. Rooms are dated, but clean. Italian restaurant does not take reservations so you have to line up really early to get in. 1.5 hr bus ride from airport.

Check in was slow. There werent enough staff working to handle the families that arrived on the same bus. Room was very outdated. Door locks were loose and appeared to have been tampered with at some point. Rain shower was nice and hot water was no issue. Room cleaning was sparse. Some days no one came by unless we went looking and asking. Hotel grounds were beautiful. Kids loved water park....not overly large but great for our 8 and 12 year old. Pools were great and not overly crowded. Beach was beautiful and relaxing. Tried out the gym. It was very outdated but clean and had all the necessary equipment. Did not participate in many activities but there appeared to be alot to do for the kids. Our son loved the teen centre. Food was good. Restaurants fill up quick at night so arrive early or you end up at the buffet. The jerk chicken hut on the beach was the best!

Beautiful Beach. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The resort does need some up dating but the rooms were clean. The water park was a huge hit with the kids. Not crowded - plenty of beach chairs. If you are looking for authentic Jamaican food, you'll need to go outside of the resort. Overall - if you are looking for small, accessible, affordable and family friendly resort, it's a great option.

No hot water for 3 days. Minimal toiletries and coffee in room. Rooms need updating. This is a resort that relies on its beach and waterpark and hopes its guests will ignore all else at the resort. Massive staff layoffs 2 months ago. Lots of new inexperienced staff. Menu avoids Jamaican dishes for international ones.

This resort is nice, grounds were well kept and rooms were clean. The beach was great with lots of palapas and chairs, always able to find a spot. Pools were nice with lots of loungers. The restaurant foods were good but being a family resort they don't accommodate larger groups. We had 11 of us and every time we went to eat they never sat us together even though we requested table seating for 11. That was disappointing. Kids loved the water park with the lazy river which is a nice feature.

This resort was nice and small which was perfect for kids. I never worried my son would get lost. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Water park was great especially the lazy river. Food was mostly all delicious. We really enjoyed the Jade restaurant and the beach grill. Hamburgers were our favorites!

The rooms were not real clean, (maybe they need better vacuum cleaners). Towels were not always replaced although the used ones were taken away. Placed generally seemed understaffed. Regular maintenance on items like sink drain plumbing and patio door required fixing. Generally the whole place requires upgrades to be competitive with similar resorts. The staff were always helpful and friendly. Rooms had good temperature control and the king size bed was very comfy. This resort felt safe as it is secluded from other resorts and outside beach access. The pools, water slides and lazy river were fantastic for the grandchildren.

Resort was always clean. Friendly staff! Amazing kids club! Made kids feel welcomed! Food was delish! Would stay here again, If the prices were similar! ...........................................

This was our first time in Jamaica, and won't be our last. We will come to this resort again! If you are looking for a great family spot , where the kids can stay entertained, this is the resort for you. The waterpark was a huge plus for us, as was our own private plunge pool on our terrace. Food was amazing, room was spacious enough for 4 of us with separate beds for the kids . Staff was friendly and accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure you have a good time.

This resort was fantastic! From the food to the grounds, even the people. Everything far exceeded our expectations!!! Literally nothing bad to say about our experience. The water park was just an added bonus to our already incredible vacation!

Great resort for families...we stayed here with our boys ages 9 & 6. Had a really fun time at the water park and enjoyed everything about this place. Beach is large and crystal clear. Food was good and staff friendly. No complaints Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

A perfect sized resort for families. Everything is close by...beach, pools, restaurants, bars and water park. Great staff and lots of things for the kids to do - ours are 8 and 11 - plenty of staff at the water park and running the kids club. Good food and enough variety to keep everyone happy. Basic rooms were a bit on the small side but we spent very little time there...it was never an issue. Staff kept rooms and grounds clean. We can’t wait to go back!

The Jewel Runaway Bay is an excellent place to take your kids. The water park is a ton of fun and the kids can safely have the full run of the resort on their own. The beach is beautiful and there is a coral reef near by so the fish will swim right up to you even when you're swimming in the roped off area. Food, drinks and staff are awesome! Our 3 boys (ages 12 , 10 , 7) particularly loved the nighttime games of capture the flag on the beach with the kids/ teen club. Good tennis courts with a local pro, 3 nice clean life guarded pools, nice entertainment at night. Very clean, smoking only allowed in a few designated places away from the main activity areas. My only suggestion for this resort is that they do the audience participation portion of the show after the main stage portion because it seemed to me that they lost a lot of their audience as people snuck away to prevent being chosen for the audience participation activities on stage and that left very few people to stay for the higher quality entertainment such as the steel drum show or the historic dancing or the excellent guest singers with the band. Overall though: a definite gem in a fantastic country: yeah mon!

Our family had a great vacation at this resort. The staff were terrific, very accommodating and genuinely engaged with us and the children. For families with young children I would recommend booking a room away from the water park due to the noise of the music and some nightly teen entertainment sessions which made afternoon naps and early bedtimes a bit challenging. My only minor complaint is that the rooms were small, it was a challenge to find storage for all of our clothes & luggage and there were also not enough hangers in the room. Also wished the water park opened earlier than 10:30am. None of this however was a dealbreaker for me! I would not hestitate recommending this resort to anyone, we had a wonderful time here!

Arrived to the resort in Jan/18/18. We were greeted by hotel staff, checked in and taken to our room. It was on the second floor overlooking one of the pool areas. The room is your standard hotel room and nothing fancy however we did have two single beds for our kids and a king bed. We got what we asked for!! The room came with a tall dresser that allowed us to put the kids clothes away as well as my wifes. There was also a closet for you to hang your clothes. I always work out of the suit case. The bed was comfy and clean. The shower worked well with good water pressure and a nice size. The resort has a great water park for the kids and adults to have all day fun. Lazy river, water slides, tube water slide. apparently its a much better water park then the expensive Beaches just down the road. There are two other pools to choose. The swim up bar with a kids pool attached as well as a sports activity pool. although the hotel was full you had no idea it was. You didn't have to wake up and rush to claim a recliner. There were plenty of them around the pool area, in the water park, and on the beach. That being said the people were spread out and you didn't feel cramped or uneasy about finding a spot as there were lots to choose. The beach area is nice and has some small reefs you can swim close to and see plenty of fish. You can sign out a snorkel and mask as well. For little ones they have a small lie down floatee that has a clear bottom so your little one can see the fish if they can use a mask . The beach is about 200m or so. clean and soft on the feet. water was warm too! The food was good and especially the jerk chicken at the all night restaurant. The specialty restaurants were good with only having to make a reservation at the Japanese one. Staff were very friendly at all times and everywhere you went. The buffet restaurant was good with a large variety to choose from. The entertainment at night started usually around 830 so we didn't have time to check out all of it as my kids were tired by then. We did see the steel drum band which put on a good show. It would be nicer if some of the entertainment started around 730 so you if you had younger ones you could watch it. However we did learn that the kids club was open til 9 so we would feed the picky ones at the buffet then drop them off at the kids club and we would go out worry free and enjoy our dinner in peace. The kids club was excellent and worry free. First time we used it on a resort and it was great. lots of toys and activities for the kids. there is also a youths room with a pool table and video games room for them to stay in. Overall it was a great resort and worth the money paid!

The resort was absolutely beautiful. The grounds were very well kept the rooms were clean but somewhat outdated. The food was fantastic and great friendly staff. We have a child with special needs and Frederick the chef made our vacation stress free when it came to food for him. Unfortunately it rained 24/7 the first 3 days we were there. 😓, So our trip seemed to be short due to the lost days Laura Mulvihill-Spry, our agent made sure everything was perfect. We will be booking to go back January 2019 !

This resort was perfect for our much anticipated Christmas holiday vacation. While all 268 rooms were booked, there was never a need to get up at the crack of dawn for a prime spot (as we found at our last sun destination) nor wait very long for anything. Waterpark, ocean and pools are all minutes from the rooms - so no 25 minute schlep like in some mega resorts. Food was good and ample - not gourmet but hey this isn't a 5 star. While it is true the rooms are not brand new - do you really want your kids in a room that they could easily wreck? The staff are amazing - from the grounds keepers to housekeepers - restaurant staff and life guards - all were genuinely happy to interact with each other and guests. Being able to feed tropical fish in knee deep ocean was a real thrill for our kids 9 and 12. The many repeat travellers we met confirmed this is a hidden family friendly gem. Shoot. I probably shouldn't have given a good review!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jewel. Check in could have went a bit smoother. Room was clean and comfortable. Beach was stunning. Sand was soft and thick. Ocean was a bit rough for my small children but could have just been the time of year we were there(late November). Food at the buffet was fine. Not remarkable but not bad either. Wood fired pizza was very good as was the Italian Place. Didn’t get a chance to eat at the other restaurants. Drinks were definitely not watered down and in fact found them a bit strong. Water park was a great feature. Resort was fully booked but it is spread out enough that we NEVER had a problem getting a chair at any time of day at the pools, park or beach. Lots of umbrellas and shade. Everything was easily within a very short walk of the room. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

People and food were amazing. Stayed in a standard room and could us some updating. Grounds are well kept. Kids water park was amazing for my 3 kids and even mom and dad. Would recommend to anyone. Alittle far from airport being 1.5 hours away

Loved our trip! We went with a group of 30 for a beautiful wedding on the beach. The resort was awesome...it wasn't over booked so we never had to wait to be seated for a meal or have to fight someone for a spot around the pool or put towels on the beach chairs just to make sure you got one!! The food was great. Probably the best food I've had at an all inclusive. We will definitely be revisiting this resort in the future. Ya Man!!

I recently had the pleasure of vacationing at this resort to attend my son's wedding. I would recommend this resort to anyone who want to vacation with their family who have children. The waterpark was the highlight of my grandchildren's time spent there. The rooms were spacious, although a little dated, however always clean and the maid service I cannot say enough. The hospitality and the friendliness of the staff were incredible. This resort will be going under renovation and in looking at the plans, I would definitely come back to this resort with my children & their children.

We loved our stay at Jewel Runaway Bay. The beach was amazing! The hotel staff were very friendly and the customer service was great. We spent a day going into Ochos Rios to do different excursions, and the resort staff made sure we were all accounted for leaving the hotel and returning. We felt very safe there!

Hotel was very clean and small so it was easy to get around. Service was amazing loved the people very welcoming,not pushy at all. food was bomb I Forsure would recommend this resort great place for the money spent.

Loved our whole week at this resort. Travelled with 2 young children under 3, and a group of friends who also had kids 3 years old. Kids loved the waterpark (lots of slides plus a lazy river!) and the infinity/kids pool. Larger pool was nice too as it had both a shallow and deep end. We went during back to school week so it was not very busy at all. Staff was great. Very accommodating, very friendly. Good variety of food and restaurants. I liked that there were several a la carte restaurants, and that only ONE required a reservation! Buffet had different food every day as well, so never got tired of the food. All in all, this resort was really fantastic! I could go on for days.

If you are looking for fancy rooms or an opulent lobby this is not the place for you. The rooms and buildings are a little dated but more than sufficient and clean. If you are looking for a fantastic and interactive staff and delicious food, a la cart or buffet, this is definitely the place for you. It's a smaller resort which makes it easy to get anywhere on the resort in under 5 minutes. I cannot say enough about the staff in the tweens club, my girls loved them and they went out of their way to involve everyone. If you are looking for a great place for a family vacation this is a great choice. Great resort and would definitely return.

Family of 4. Kids are 12 and 9. We absolutely love this place. We've returned 3 of the last 4 years as it's simply tough to beat. The vibe of the place is key. Fun for everyone, especially the kids and the kids in all of us. The staff are remarkable, food is great, and the small size and proximity to the beach are paramount. The water park doesn't hurt either. The rooms/grounds are a bit dated, but we spent very little time in our room as there is stuff to do all the time. They really need new guns at the laser tag. If you're looking for night life, go somewhere else.

We had such a great time at Jewel Runaway Bay in Jamaica. It was the perfect family vacation and everyone had a great time. We've been to a several resorts in the carribean and were blown away at just how amazing the staff were at Jewel Runaway Bay.

This was our third, however, not last visit to Jewel Runaway Bay. This smaller resort is more attractive to our family and travelling style. The beach is large, 90% of the restaurants have water views, the staff is incredible and the food is great with variety. This is a family resort. There are an outstanding number of activities for all ages or there are quiet places on the beach or close to your room where you can hide away with a good book. There is something for everyone. The rooms are clean, moreover, all areas are cleaned as the staff is attentive and responsive to guest's needs. The manager of this resort is incredible, nice guy and it's clear his staff has much respect for him. A shout out to Wendy VZ at Tripcentral, she always takes such great care of our bookings. She follows up and gets us the best deals within her reach. Thank you yet again, Wendy - we'd be vacationless without you!

We had a great week with our two kids (4&6). Perfect weather, amazing beach, pool and Waterpark. We usually like staying in a bit more luxurious feeling resort, but wanted to try out a true family resort. Kids adored the Waterpark, there was almost always lifeguards enforcing rules, which was nice to see, as it would be chaotic without rules. The food was always delicious. Overall a wonderful resort. I would recommend this hotel.

The resort was beautiful and staff was very friendly! This is a great resort for families with small children. The food was good although the options were limited especially in the buffet. Beach was nice but not very deep. Entertainment was good but ended very early so there wasn't much to do past 10:00 pm. Water park was amazing!

The hotel was ok, when we checked in they were going to put us in a room with 2 double beds when we asked for a king and 2 singles. We ended upgrading to a bigger room with butler service for $920.00 US dollars. If I would have seen the room before I paid I would never have done it as it was not a upgrade really, dated room with nothing special and the butler service was useless! The hotel itself was ok alittle dated but the staff were amazing and the service was great, breakfast buffet was the same everyday and got really tired after the 2nd day! Lunches at the grill were awesome and so was the pizza! Dinners were good especially at the Japanese restaurant! All in all a pretty good holiday except for paying the $920 US to upgrade which was a bit of a scam and left a bitter taste for me.

Hotel is just ok. Staff was nice. Water park is great for kids. If you are travelling with kids this is the place to go. If not the. Probably not the best place. Beach is good and the food is decent too

My children and I spent a week at Jewel Runaway Bay and loved every moment! The hotel was clean, the grounds were meticulously maintained, the restaurants offered every type of food you'd want, and the staff was amazing! I can't wait to return!

Overall we had a great time at Jewel Runaway Bay. The food, beaches, staff, Kids club and golf coarse were top notch. The rooms can use some updating, but still good enough for the stay. Sounds like this resort is going to get some renovations in the next year or so. It switched from Breezes to Jewel overnight with limited renos so far.

We enjoyed our family stay at Runaway Bay. This resort was great for family holiday, grandparents, children and grandchildren. Staff very friendly and the food was excellent. They went above board to make New Years Eve special, even though some of the festivities got rained out. The only complaint my family had, was our rooms were next to the disco. The disco opened at 11 p.m. and went to the last person left. It made getting to sleep difficult.

Traveled to Jewel Runaway Bay with my husband and 2 children (4&7). This resort came highly recommended and in most areas didn't disappoint. Food was very good. Stone oven pizza. Italian and Japanese restaurants. Buffet has A LOT of seafood and I'm allergic so there weren't many buffet choices, but there is no limit at the a la carte restaurants. Pool service was great. Buffet and restaurant service quite slow. Beautiful beach with on site snorkeling, but it isn't huge in case you want to go for a long walk. Several bars, including a swim up. Waterpark was terrific and is unlimited. Art hut with Clive at the beach was awesome and the kids loved it. The ride from the airport was 1 hr and 10 minutes, but the airport/ shuttle was so unorganized we didn't get to the resort until 3 hrs AFTER we landed which made for a very long day for the kids. No duty free store on site. Pasta bar only at the Italian restaurant. Would have been nice to have one in the buffet. The steel drum band was the best nightly entertainment. We didn't go off resort as the kids were too small for any good excursions. However, my husband and his friend walked past the beach/ property line and had conch for lunch one day. They said this was the best meal they had all week, despite being charged far too much. All in all, we had a great trip and would return.

This hotel was wonderful. The people we so friendly and would help with any concerns. The food was great and the beach was amazing! The grounds were well kept and clean. The rooms were ok. We didn't love the fact that there were no doors on the main bathroom.

We had a great time. This compares very well with any 5 star ones we have gone to in the Caribbean. Included full water park, premium drinks and very clean rooms remade twice daily are differentiators. The beach party was awesome. The classy Caribbean restaurant and its gifted Pianist, Kedroy are in a class of their own. Very helpful staff and good Management are evident. Keep it up Guys it will continue to differentiate you. Ah and how could we forget the jump pool and champagne we got invited to by our friends. Excellent range of choices. Thank you bartenders, groundsmen, cleaning staff and all, we really appreciate you all. Respect !! Yeah Man !!

The resort was great as everything was a walking distance. Family oriented as there was a lot to do for the kids is splash pad and lazy river. My kids enjoyed their stay and liked the art and craft activities. The food and service was also great! We will be back next year.

This was our second visit to the Jewel Runaway Bay and it is absolutely a wonderful place to be. The food options provide a vast array of choices which are all great. The weekly dinner on the beach is awesome. Vendors brought on the resort are really respectful. The rooms are standard rooms however are comfortable. The kids camp is Amazing and they do more with the kids than we have ever experienced. Staff is friendly and accommodating. We love it and will be back.

Just got back from 8 days at Jewel runaway bay resort in Jamaica I can not sat enough great things about the resort. Stayed in the junior oceanfront suites...which were amazing. Yoy practically get a entire pool to yourself. Stayed in room 1031 which is dead centre right on the ocean. Food was mostly great. Eating out in the heat was a challenge. Pizza...amazing...beef patties at the grill... Awsome Fed the fish by hand which was cool. Our two kids 7 and 10 had a blast at the watermark. They actually loved the infinity pool the best... Me too because what more do u want then to swim up to the bar and order a drink Best drinks ever... Did horseback riding in the water and Dunn's River falls...both r a must Even though the resort was at full capacity, I never felt squished with people Sailing for free on the holy cats were great too We r already looking at goung hack Thus time, we will get a private plunge pool Ya mon....

The grounds are exceptionally well kept, the room was spotless, the food excellent, the people were extremely helpful, the beach was clean and the sand soft on the feet, the pools were very clean and a fresh supply of towels available daily.

I was there last year and this year and will be going back next year. Awesome place everyone there are so friendly and the food is excellent. We had a manager night special which was cocktails followed by a 6 course meal.

This hotel is one of the best for food, beaches, and most of all the people who work there, especially when they remember you from last year. Such amazing people who work there. Our room was done every day with fail, and the women that cleaned our room she made sure we had everything we needed. Jamaican people are one of the most respected people in my book.

Our stay a Jewel Runaway Bay was fantastic! We were 6 in our party and everyone of us would recommend this resort. It was clean, friendly and helpful staff, good food and drinks, beautiful beach and water park. Loved every minute.

I cannot say enough good things about this resort. This was our second visit and with the addition of the Waterpark, it even surpassed our first time. We have 2 boys 11 and 8 and they were constantly active and entertained by the highly engaged, enthusiastic staff. The food was excellent. The vibe is off the charts as the staff have a laid back, cool demeanor that is infectious. They are proud of their resort and their culture and they deserve to be.

Front Desk people need to improve on people skill and smile , the rest of the Staff were amazing, just my Son and i went for only 4 days to strictly play golf and thanks to Laura Spry from trip central organizing this trip on a very short notice (2 days) took some amazing pics , showed them to my wife and now we are planning our next trip here. This resort was everything I wanted in our vacation. The staff were all amazing, food was delicious, pools were great and the waterpark was perfect. The resort is a perfect size so that my daughters could go off on their own to the tween club and easily find us even if we had changed pools. it rained 80% of our time there but it didn't make a difference. We sat in the cabanas or by the bar while the kids played in the tween club, pool or waterpark. They never complained until it was time to go. They want to stay for 3 weeks next time. The staff really made the difference here. We felt well taken care of and safe at all times. Can't wait to go back to the Jewel at Runaway Bay!

I'm very reluctant to give a positive review of Jewel Runaway Bay...because it means more folk will go and we might have difficulty getting bookings! Jewel is just that, a jewel of a resort. Granted, it is not big at around 300 rooms, but that is part of its charm. The rooms are well appointed and immaculately kept, the restaurants offer enough choices that even the pickiest eater should be happy (suggestion for ordering in the Italian restaurant-- pasta? ask for a 'half' serving or order a serving between two people!! HUGE portions) the grounds are lush, beach pristine the water is a beautiful turquoise blue with an amazing coral reef just beyond the roped off swimming area. The 'designation' is a family resort, and it is that -- not only are there activities for all age groups but you are also treated like family. The staff actually recognize you and, if you make a return trip, remember you. Case in point -- we were at Jewel last September, and have just returned from a January visit, on our first morning heading for breakfast Kerry Ann the hostess for the buffet, stopped dead in her tracks and said 'you're back!' and came over to give us a hug ...she wasn't the only person to recognize us, and when they did, the greeting was usually 'welcome home' -- not something you get at a mega resort like Riu, Bahia or similar. If you are looking for lots of night life and local clubs, this may not be the resort for you but if you prefer good evening entertainment and a variety of daytime activities to choose from I think you'll find what you are looking for here.

This resort has it all, great staff, good comfortable rooms, excellent restaurants and all stretched out on a beautiul beach just steps away from anything that you want. The waterpark is first class fun for all ages.

Resort and Staff were wonderful, only thing I could criticize was that they did not seem used to a large group. All our reservations were made the last thing we want to do is wait in line to fill out papers

This would be a great resort for famlies with young children, to remote for adults wanting to explore the island. We were told unsafe to leave resort and taxi's from the resort charged way to much even more than Vancouver.

I would recommend this hotel. It was good. The staff was friendly and the food was good. There was some confusion when we arrived regarding rooms but I think that might have been more our travel agent than the hotel.

The hotel is very comfortable and classy. Food is incredible.We had a minor issue with our room and Stacy at Reception and the GM Mr Scott Robbins resolved it to our entire satisfaction. Every member of the staff smiles and is cheerful at this resort. I am very critical generally but had a hard time finding a fault with this resort. My wife and I had a wonderful time at this resort !! On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give 11 !!!!

Very nice place , Friendly and caring staffs, Kids enjoyed superb water park. Great food. Jewel bay located in the middle and easy access to Airport and you can do some shopping too. Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the Jewel Runaway Bay Sept 12 to 19, 2015. This resort is truly amazing. The food was great, the room was amazing and the service was impeccable. The staff were so friendly and helpful.Would recommend .

Jewel Runaway was great! In summary: the hotel is a good 4 star in my opinion and is generally very children and family oriented. the food is great, lots to do for children and the staff are AMAZING!! Altogether we had a great time! And might go back! Now on to the details! 1. Ride from the airport to the hotel: about 80 min - which the driver made it interesting for us by pointing out interesting sites on the way (and even stopping for people to take pictures)! He also talked about history, geography and anthropology of Jamaica that (if accurate) was very interesting and good to know! So at the end, most of us really enjoyed the ride (more like tour bus!). 2. Arriving at the hotel: Upon arrival, the hotel seemed very small and dark and nothing like hotels I have seen in DR, Cuba or Costa Rica. There was no "Welcome drink" or welcome anything! No one was there to guide us to where we needed to go. 3. Checking in: the process was very simple, easy and quick. Unfortunately, the flight was not timed well with the hotel check-in time!!! We arrived I think around 11 or so, and the check-in was at 3! That was not good especially since all of us were up early in the morning for our 6 am flight! I was dying, so my husband kept asking if the room was ready and eventually at about 1:30 they gave us a room which was nice of them! 4. The room: it was nice, clean and comfortable! The minibar has only water and pop and no alcoholic drinks...we were happy with the contents! 5. food: The food at the main buffet is good. I eat most kinds of food, and I could almost always find things that I liked. they always had Jamaican food, which was amazing! I loved jerk chicken and even bought the spice to make it at home!! :) The a la cart restaurant were all "fantastic". the food tasted soooo good that i often ordered 2 plates just for me! the best restaurant in my opinion was Platinum. they had AMAZING tasting dishes, with fabulous designs and super nice staff! we ended up having dinner and breakfast there I think 5 days!! too bad they were closed for lunch! 6. pools there are 2 main pools and a little pool with the swim-up bar. deep pool - was nice with the deep area clearly marked. They could have tried to keep it a little cleaner. Small pool, good enough i guess for people with small children Pool with a swim-up bar: good, but usually not staffed and we had to wait for some time or go out for a drink! 7. Bars: Drinks were great! there were quite a few and any where in the resort you were close enough to a bar to get a nice drink. 8. Entertainment and activities: Well, we only stayed twice for the evening entertainment and it was really worth staying up for. the talent show was interesting! I think the entertainment group could have tried to engage the guests a little more. for example, a lot of resorts have the entertainment team going around in the pool and start various games, like pool volleyball, etc. but the team at Jewel, wasnt really active in that sense. most i saw was 1 or 2 of the girls asking trivia questions usually around 2-3 and giving jewel dollars to cash in the gift shop. 40,000 Jewel dollar is about 3 dollars at the gift shop!!!! 9. Gift shop: Don't buy rum there. I bought small bottles of rum cream at the hotel for $5, the exact same bottle was $2.5 at the airport!! 10. Water park: good and as much fun as the brochure and website say! we enjoyed it!! 11. Staff: AMAZING!! they are making the difference in this hotel. their general manager, I think Scott Robin, should be commended for the training of the staff and the quality of service the provide. Everywhere in the hotel, staff are nice, smiling, sweet and asking you how they can make your stay nicer! I couldn't ask for nicer staff in a resort! 12. Beach: was nice, quite, soft, sandy....lovely!

Nice beach. Excellent staff. Food is OK. Lots of variety. Underwhelming decor in lobby and entrance area. Poorly lit . No AC in lobby or restaurants except Platinum. More umbrellas needed on the beach.

There was so much to do at this resort and too little time. Great beach & house reef, sea sports, pools, access to water park any time (with food and towels). Morning work outs, night entertainment. Plenty of choice for eating. Kid's activities. And we did not even use the golf course or tennis courts.

THIS IS A FIRST CLASS RESORT. I NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL. THE PEOPLE WERE FRIENDLY ALWAYS AND ALWAYS SMILING. THIS IS ALSO A GREAT RESORT FOR KIDS. THE WATER PARK IS EXCELLENT AND YOU CAN'T BEAT THE DAYCARE.

Great resort, with good food, activities for families with kids and friendly staff. Would definately go again. would be nice if when we arrive , there is something like a welcome drink and luggage is more organized. Other wise had a great time.

Great family friendly resort, well maintained, with the nicest staff!!! For a smaller resort the food was fantastic!! Japanese Restaurant was fun and interactive and was the only a la carte that required a reservation and no restrictions on how many times you can dine at any a la carte. Most restaurants were open air with a beautiful view of the ocean. The waterpark was a blast for all ages and there is an infinity pool with swim up bar with either view of ocean or mountains. Another pool is adjacent to the buffet which is deeper (lots of pool noodles available to float around with!!) Snorkelling is great off the beach....lots of fish and coral to look at! Rooms were modern and decent size and wifi throughout the resort. Activities going on constantly for either kids or adults. Had a blast!

We stayed at the Jewel Runaway Bay from May 4-11, 2015. We had the most amazing trip. My second trip to Jamaica and my husbands first and we are planning on going back next April. The rooms are spotless, the food is amazing, the staff are out of this world friendly. We were in building 3 facing the back of the resort. It was an ok but next time Id want to be facing the resort or pool view to be closer to the action and music. It would be a perfect room for those who go to bed early. We met a lot of very nice people and long life friends. We went to every restaurant and tested every bar and grill. All were fantastic. We had 8 days of 31+ weather with no rain, lots of wind but not a drop of rain. I can deal with the wind. We stayed by the infinity pool every day and ventured over to the big pool once in a while. The beach was an arms length away from the infinity pool and one of the nicest, cleanest water I've seen. Very windy most days but calmed down in the evening. There were tons of empty chairs everywhere, every day. Go to the managers party and go talk to Scott. He doesn't seem to be approachable when you stand back but looks are deceiving. He is very friendly and takes pride in his job and the resort is improving daily. If you have a problem, (which we didn't) they fix it asap. You can tell he really cares about this resort and hopefully he treats his staff great. They seem to really like him. We went to the water park daily. Our favorite day was when the locals came in on the weekend and we got to enjoy their company and had a lot of fun on the lazy river with the little kids. We went down the slide where both of us could get on the tube, we had a blast. Most days we just went on the lazy river and relaxed. There is something for ages 0 to 95 at the water park. It's truly built with all ages in mind. We went on vacation with relaxation on our minds after the terrible NS winter and that's exactly what we did. Bugsy (cabby) took us to Ocho rios for a 5 hour trip for $80 American. On our way back we had lunch at margaritaville, met Birdman where he made us birds out of palm leaves and told us jokes. This was the only excursion we went on. So if you're looking for a small, close to everything, 4+ resort with friendly staff and very family oriented in every way. This is the place for you. So don't sweat the small stuff and just relax and enjoy. Because we apologized to the staff for the actions of some guests who we didn't even know, as they were just down right rude and there was really no need to be. The staff just smiled and said thank you.

The resort was well laid out and accessible to everything in a 5 minute walk. The staff is amazing and very welcoming. If you happen to bring your kids along, then they will be in great hands in the kids club and will be entertained all hours of the day. The food was great at most restuarants and worth a try. The beach was out of this world with a coral reef accessible to do snorkeling right there. The water park was awesome and again if kids are with you, they will be entertained for hours. We didn't have any issues and will definitely be back again. Shout out to Garnet and the ladies of the kids club. This was a fantastic trip. Thank you Jewel.

The entire resort was awesome. Beautiful beach, great water park, immaculate grounds and fantastic food!! The rooms were big enough for the 4 of us and had a large balcony with furniture. Pools were fabulous and never crowded. A perfect vacation:)

The food was amazing - have no complaints about it - all restaurants were good. The pool area was also very good. The service was great. Staff was friendly and inviting. Felt like I was at home. Didn't want to come back!

Rooms were ok. Stand up showers, no tub/shower combination. Rooms had AC. Way too many mosquitos! Kids enjoyed the water park. But was over populated with local excursions/field trips. Food was ok. Not a lot of variety. The A-la-carte restaurants were great though! Much better service provided by staff in the a-la-carte restaurants. Service/staff at General food area/bars were mediocre for a '4 star' hotel. A bit young, inexperienced and slow. Wait times were too long. Weren't very informative or went 'the extra mile'. I stayed at the Jewel Dunn's River last year. Services/accommodations were exceptional! Was expecting the same from Runaway Bay. Kids had a great time. Camp counsellors at the kids/twenies camp were great. Kept the kids entertained. Which gave parents some time for themselves. We enjoyed our stay at Runaway Bay. Was just expecting a bit more service and better food.

The rooms are a little dated, but clean and very, very comfortable. The grounds are impecable. Loved the hammocks & sitting areas whilst strolling through the grounds. The food, plentiful & very tasty. Make sure you check out the pizza place. Nothing like champagne & orange juice while you are waiting for your pizza. The staff absolutely amazing and took care of your every need. If you have children this is the place for you. Waterpark outstanding and activites galore. If you don't have children, this is the place for you as well!!! Beach party outstanding!! The premises are being upgraded and my suggestion is for more washroom facilities on the grounds. If you don't have a great time at the Jewels, then I can honestly say the problem is YOU!!! We have already recommended this vacation to our friends

My husband and I just returned from our vacation to The Jewel Runaway Bay to celebrate our first anniversary. The whole resort was wonderful from the staff, to the food, entertainment and the hotel itself. I loved that our shower had 6 shower heads, so awesome! Make sure to visit Clive at the arts and crafts hut to buy a painting, he's got so much talent. He personalized a painting for my husband and I and it's already got a spot on a wall here at home to remind us of our time there. Also the snorkeling is great at this resort.

I travelled with my husband and another couple to the Jewel Runaway Bay, Jamaica on Apr. 13 - 27th, 2015. Our two weeks stay was wonderful. This was our first time to Jamaica and our friends it was their third. We flew with Sunwing, all went well, we were even 20 min. early arriving at Sangsters Intl. Airport. The trip on the bus was comfortable, they had refreshments for us to purchase. We got to the resort, and were checked in within 10 min. We checked out the resort prior to our rooms being ready. But in no time we got into building #1. We had a room facing the service area, but it didn't bother us. It was clean and comfortable we were fine. A few days later our friends were having some issues and the hotel moved us to building #2 facing the pool. These rooms were comparable with cleanliness and comfort. We had only a few mosquitos and they didn't bother us. Everything was within a very close proximity so there really wasn't a lot of walking to do. The beach was excellent. The fish came up to you as you were swimming. The small reef was there, but in order to go outside of the buoy markers you would have to go down the beach on either direction and enter that way. If you are within the buoy markers then you are the responsiblity of the lifeguards. The food was very good whether it was at the buffet or at an al carte. The pizza, soft ice cream, mashed potatoes, wraps all the comfort foods from home were just as good if not better. (ice cream seemed to be a big hit with our groups praises :) The staff were very friendly, went out of their way to help you even to remind you of putting lots of sun lotion on. We did a few excursions and we have to say the Blue Hole in Ocho Rios was top knotch. Highly recommend you contact Marvin Gayle to arrange something. He got us to the right Blue Hole and his driver Delton was superb! Great job. We did the catamaran, snorkel & Dunns River Falls. We also did a trip to Negril which is 2 1/2 hrs. drive. We did 7 Mile Beach & Rick's Cafe. Watching the cliff divers was amazing. We didn't see a sunset as it rained and was cloudy. We would go to the Jewel again.

Where do I start.....well with the booking...Natalie from trip Central made it quick, easy, and if I had ANY questions at all she answered immediately! Thanks again for letting it be stress free!! As for the Resort...Jewel Runaway Bay...WOW!!! # 1 BY FAR!!..The staff for check in were informative, quick and very polite. The buildings were very clean and staff ALWAYS with a smile and friendly greeting. The entertainment was great and fun and so enjoyable. The food..OH THE FOOD.....you would have to eat every half hour on the hour just to try all the GREAT food...not enough hours in the day or room in your belly to taste every thing!! We were totally blown away that you could get sit down full service for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you wished and not even go to the buffet......it was all amazing and fun! We have been travelling down south for 8 years now sometimes twice a year to 4 & 5 star resorts in Dominican, Cuba , Bermuda & Jamaica...this was by far #1 in our books. Can't say enough great things about the people. and staff here. WE WILL BE BACK!!!

Stayed here March 30 to April 6, 2015. Older resort but very well kept. Rooms in Building 2 were good. Beach is great, grounds were nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. No problem getting a chair on the beach. Good variety of food and lots of it. Pizza place was quite popular. The addition of the water park is great for kids and adults. Entertainment was average.

Clean rooms with current amenities, great housekeeping staff, engaging, energetic entertainment staff, friendly accommodating service staff, lovely beach, awesome snorkelling, fun water park option, immaculate grounds; delicious food available throughout. See a few opportunities for enhancements - swim up bar pool is in the 'family' pool - a bit small and not always serviced well; evening entertainment could be improved on.

We had the best vacation ever, from the beach, pools, food and the amazing staff the Runaway Bay was perfect. The new waterpark a bonus! Couldn't have had a better time. The resort is the perfect size for adults with older kids who want a little freedom without the worry. Our children enjoyed the many activities away from us but we were still able to locate in a matter of minutes.

Everything about the resort , the food , the staff was top notch... We did not feel the pressures of tipping because the staff was so helpful we automatically wanted to give gratuity. Clean , timely fashion when needed something, questions answered promptly.,

The resort is a wonderful destination for families with a beautiful beach, great activities, food and most of all an amaizing atmosphere. Everything is open air except for one a la carte. Never an issue to beach chairs at the pool or beach. On our departure day, the hotel was at full capacity and never did it feel over crowded. I recommend the Junior suites for families if you need the extra space (addition of cots). What we love the most is that it's an inter-generational friendly spot that has something for everyone.

This is a small resort. Excellent for families with children. Staff very accomodating & friendly. Cudos to Leland @ the front desk & Eggboy. I would definately go back to this resort - had a fantastic time..

Its a really nice beach and very quiet/private albeit on the smaller side. Good snorkelling right off the beach. The resort is very well managed and everyone will have fun. Food is decent but nothing exceptional so are the drinks. For the price you won't go wrong specially with kids.

Loved our trip to Jewel Runaway Bay...travelled the last week on January with our 13 yr old son. The resort is the perfect size and easy to get wherever you need to go. The staff are phenomenal from the reception, wait staff, bartenders animationcand maids - and a special shout out to Ash and Purple at the Teen Club...our son thought you guys were awesome. The food was great, rooms were super clean and comfortable and beaches and pool were amazing. Played 4 rounds of golf as well which was so easy to get to...played early mornings and was back to the resort before 10am. Great family resort to relax and unwind - good entertainment at night but not a party place afterwards which was just fine with us. Highly recommend this resort and we will be going again next year. And as always tripcentral.ca was great and to deal with once again

We were 16 men on a golf vacation. We WILL be going back and as long as everything is the same, will most likely grow in size and make it our annual destination of choice. Wonderful Staff and great service. Top Notch!! Would highly recommend this place.

Amazing beach. Rooms average and dated. Sliding glass door in room 1138 needed both hands and a ton of force to open it 12 inches. Swim up bar is in the kiddies pool which makes no sense. Had 2 rooms. First room kids above us awoke us each morning at 6am running around. Changed rooms. That room had an infant next door and had us up at 5am crying each morning. Gave up after that.

This is my third trip to the Jewel Runaway Bay and our first time bringing the kids, although our kids are 16 and 19 they had an amazing time, we all enjoyed the beach and the entertainment was ongoing from morning to night. We especially enjoyed the New Years dinner and entertainment and the beach party with bomb file and smores. My husband enjoyed the complimentary green fees across the street so he didn't have to spend his vaca on a shuttle to and from the gold course. All in all I recommend this resort to couples and families that want it all without all the walking. Frederick and Austin were the best at the 24hr outdoor grill and all the night time beach bar staff were amazing. Thank-you Jewel's see you next year :)

RE: BOOKING NUMBER – 72995783 Regarding my recent trip to Jewel Runaway Bay Resort, I have the following comments, which are complaints as well as suggestions, but generally resulted in a disappointing trip. The Elite service on the way out was satisfactory, as was the flight until the food service where I took one item and my son the other. Both proved to be awful, making me wish I had just got a cold sandwich at the Toronto airport. Watching a movie on that small screen 3 rows back was hopeless. We were advise we would arrive ½ hour early, great until we were ferried to the buses for transport to the resort where there seemed to be a lot of confusion as the 7 of us waited for some action. We were boarded onto a large bus where we sat breathing diesel for over 1 ½ hours. A transfer to the hotel literally took 3 hours arriving at the front desk at 4:45pm. The front desk personnel definitely lacked any friendliness, and we all had to stand around front desk trying to get service. However, the next day while in the front desk area, arrivals were seated in comfortable chairs, given hot towels and front desk personnel came to them. Two parties were overheard requesting upgrades, and both were granted without question, which makes me wonder what was wrong with us. We arrived at our room passing many great looking rooms, the classification PREMIER was definitely misused. Things only got worse when opening the patio door we were overlooking a construction site, about which we had received no notice or indication this was going on. A number of us went back to the front desk to seek alternative accommodation before unpacking but were told nothing was available, period. This seemed totally contradictory to the number of guests (few, definitely not full) we saw later that evening and next morning throughout the hotel. The resort grounds, pools, beaches, lobby, and eating areas were all well maintained and the staff including the cleaning lady, restaurant staff, grounds keepers, and entertainment staff were all fantastic and were the main attribute of this resort that stands out in my mind. Unfortunately, other issues of infestation of mosquitoes, flies, ants and wasps throughout the stay were absolutely annoying to the extent of wearing long pants at night. I had over 20 bites on one leg in two days and had to avoid wasps as my son is allegoric to their bites. One of our group had indicated that prior to an ownership change in the last 2 years, the resort used to fog daily but not now. Considering the concern over mosquitoes in the Caribbean, you would think more action would be taken. My overall opinion of the food was very poor, not what I had expected, with all meals other than breakfast being a challenge to enjoy something. Even the hamburger outlet proved to be a grease burger with little flavour. The friendly lady at the pizza outlet proved to be a godsend for some eatable enjoyment and her friendliness, always jovial. Even the sandwich on the golf course proved to be better than the hotel. Back to the room which was small compared to other locations where I have flown with Sunwing including Cuba. The washroom felt like you were sitting/squashed in an airline washroom. It took forever to get hot water in the basin, and I had to call maintenance as shower was always cold, to find out the taps were mislabelled and presto hot water eventually came. We could not leave clothes on patio due to construction dust and even sitting out there to play cards and have a drink proved impossible. I called about the air conditioning, which was set at 20 degrees, but it was certainly not that level in the room, which the maintenance chap agreed, when I called for im arriving with a screwdriver and after ½ hour could do nothing to help besides saying to leave it and see if it gets better. The return transfer to airport was much speedier than the arrival. The plane was an older model with narrower seats even with ELITE service, providing little comfort. No champagne service on return, no big deal. Noone had said keep earphones for the return flight so I had left them on the plane on arrival, so I was out of luck, but then you show an animated movie “How To Train Your Dragon”, are you kidding this is 99% adult flight. Again good news, we were arriving 20 minutes early. The confusion on trying to find the carousel with our bags, while not Sunwings’ fault was confusing with two separate arrivals from Montego Bay. ELITE service did not seem to work on return the best way. Three out our 7 golf bags did not turn up. After close to an hour we were filling paperwork in at the Sunwing lost baggage desk, with a number of young ladies providing hopeless service in doing that job versus answering the telephone when we were all upset. Paperwork complete the others were on there way out when we got advised, three bags had been found. Fortunately, we were able to catch our out of town friends in time. Again while not necessarily Sunwing’s fault, it is strange all oversized baggage went on together yet 3 get lost, but your lost baggage staff in my opinion could certainly do with some customer service training considering the stress one is under losing luggage. My bottom line is thank god for the servers, who were taken care of well with the service and enjoyment they provided in a rather negative vacation trip. I would return there but only with some changes particularly in the culinary area, regardless of being in and trying Jamaican, we still like some home style grub now and again. Kudos to my large lady friend at pizza bar who should be put to the front desk as a greeter that one would never forget.

The resort is very well kept and clean. There were many choices for eating and the food was fantastic. The staff are incredible and very personable and accomodating. The golf course was in great shape and the caddies are top notch.
