The hotel although being only a 3 star was very clea, the staff very friendly and gave us terrific service. We had 3 days and nights of consistent which I know is unusual weather in the Dominican. I felt maybe they could have had some more activities that they could have standing by in case of this unusual circumstances. For instance a movie in the pool bar, games such as charades, a card tournament, some sort of make and take souvenir etc. Extra snacks could have been available as well. It was very nice that staff had umbrellas and escorted people to rooms dinner etc. The other thing I noticed there were not any shows outside in the evening even when the weather was good. More music during the day or evening outside would be something everyone expects in the tropics. All in all we had a very nice, very quiet, holiday One other comment I would like to make is that I was disappointed that wifi had to be paid for as well as room safe was a charge. To have these included in your all inclusive would be beneficial to you as well as an activities director to encourage people to have fun and meet others.

Usually when I book a 3.5 to 4 star all inclusive I expect it to have a few things that could be improved on. I was pleasantly surprised. I can only say great things about the rooms made available to us. Updating could be made to the bathrooms but everything was working efficiently. Lots of hot water, always supplied with towels, maid was efficient and lovely. The grounds are immaculate. The food was quick and delicious and we had a variety at all meals. Staff, security, management went above and beyond. The price for the week eventhough we had to upgrade to a suite for our convenience was reasonable. Eventhough we had to deal with mother nature's 3 solid days of rain the attitude of the staff to keep us smiling was commendable. Close access to the mall with a 5 minute walk was a gem. I will return for sure. Have to return to this beautiful beach and resort.

This hotel was very clean and had the amenities to make our stay great, we would definitely go back! We were there for 7 days and the staff were excellent - food was alway fresh and tasty and had good variety!

Just returned from a wonderful relaxing week at Grand Paradise. The room was spacious and clean, the pools and gardens are well maintained. The drinks were cold and the food tasty, varied and fresh. The open air buffet restaurant is situated at the edge of a beautiful endless beach with stunning nighttime view. I was impressed with the friendly and helpful employees. Always someone at reception to answer questions. The activities crew are to be commended - high energy, personable, very outgoing and friendly. The restaurant wait staff never stop. The bars are gathering places and always busy. A small gym would be a nice addition. All in all a lovely place to unwind and relax!

Grounds and staff we're absolutely wonderful. They made us feel welcome from the moment we got there and what I could not believe was within less than 12 hours 90% of the staff knew me my name. They gave a warm and welcoming persona to the property itself. The rooms were adequate but could have used some updating. For safety reasons one thing I would recommend would be more lighting in the night-time walking areas for example around the pool area. The resort itself was very quiet and relaxing and offered wonderful entertainment staff. They work very hard at engaging customers there and kept us very well entertained. It would have been nice to see more night shows in the main Court area near the dining room. For me the food was perfect because of satisfied a very specific diet for a buddy builder ! I was very happy with the resort as a whole and would be happy to refer anyone to it in the future

Resort is beautiful, very clean, they are always cleaning. Rooms are spacious and bright. Super saver rooms are on the fourth floor, no elevator so it helps you work off the wonderful food. The beach is spectacular....no garbage, you are safe walking barefoot as again, they are always cleaning the beach. Safe to swim in the ocean...so much fun The food was very good, the buffet has lots of selection so you don't need to eat the same things every day. Spaghetti bar was fantastic! Staff are very friendly, they talk and interact with every one....no one is left out. They go out o their way to make you happy. The only complaint I have is the cigarette smoke.....you can't escape it. People smoke where ever they want. We were chased out of the bars on many occasions due to the cigarette smoke. Theyreallyneed an area where smoking is allowed, and only there. It's very hard on the non smokers......I took a star off because of the cigarette smoke

Experience: cruising rivers and oceans, guided and self-vacationing and all-inclusive resorts, around the world. … Our winter vacation in the Dominican Republic at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada Resort is declared a success. Inevitably, vacations are subject to uncontrollable factors like airlines, hotels and weather. That's why “vacation,” your time there, is a different word from “holiday,” your dates away. The Grand Paradise is a mid-sized resort (400+ rooms) located on the very nice sandy Dorada Beach adjacent to similar properties, less than half hour drive from the airport and the bustling small city of Puerto Plata (pop. 120,000). Five minute walk from the resort you’ll find a convenient 2-story strip mall and the vendors there need your shopping pesos. Please spend to help. Our room on the third floor was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. We like to have the room made-up after breakfast while taking our daily walk on the beach, so I requested the maid to adopt this schedule and I tipped her occasionally. Also tipped vendors on the beach. First thing: the beach (playa). It’s very nice. There’s also a large fresh water pool as a backup, with a swim-up bar. Meals in the airy buffet building (right on the beach) were very satisfying, with ample variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now this is not gourmet food, but tasty and well-seasoned, meaning quite salty. At breakfast there’s a grill station for eggs and omelettes. Rise early or saunter in late to avoid the queue. I liked the omelette chef’s style and sprinkled a couple of US$1 bills his way. We really enjoy fresh tropical fruits, salad and vegetables like beans, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, yucca at every meal. Two different styles of pasta are available for meals after noon, and a fresh sizzling pasta station for personal requests. At lunch and dinner the grill is used for meats; prepared meat dishes may be enjoyed with some selectivity. These are subject to the proficiency of the chef, and for the first week I was impressed with the taste and tenderness of the beefs, porks, chickens and fishes presented. I was reminded that chefs are individuals. With a change of shift, vacationers were now offered a new, different taste, evident also in the seasoning of the dishes and even the desserts and fruit salad. We savoured last week's salad which included passion fruit; this week's salad tasted bland by comparison because it did not include passion fruit. All this is highly personal of course. All day pizza is available in a separate pizza hut (right on the beach). Gathering and exchanging information, I chat with many guests. Visitants will encounter breakdowns and complain of hardship experiences. Statistically, you should expect an occurrence of a key mechanical failure with air-conditioning, phones, warm water supply, etc. We were lucky this time, but heard from luckless others: this will generate bad reviews of this (any) property. But wait, if this were a 5 star resort, the problem would be instantly repaired and remedied along with a placatory bottle of champagne. Sadly, this being only a 4 star, the problem could (did) take many days to fix, and gifting would not remedy the injury to the vacation. It's a cruel world. The resort offers an abundance of free activities for the busy-body vacationer. By this I mean free as “included,” but not free of effort. Few hardy vacationers seem willing or able to take advantage. Of course there's water sports (right on the beach), bicycling, volleyball, and the like. Mostly they do not like. Still popular with some are the simple pleasures of smoking (DR manufactures cigars,) vaping, and surfing: I mean surfing the net, even here on the beach. Well, probably, it’s urgent family business. Speaking of the net, wi-fi is pricy in the resort, but you can buy cheaper country wide sim-cards at the mall, or elsewhere. Evening show events are simple, fun, and the music and dance shows are relatively entertaining for this island. The performers are very serious, and for ¾ of hour please provide a little respectful applause. The disco opens at 11 pm for the desperate dancer. Musically, DR is known for the popular musical genres and dances called Merengue and Bachata. Tourists hail from Quebec, Ontario, Germany, Nordic countries. People are very approachable and happy to opine of their feelings about the resort of their choice. I like observing. Many large and extended families come to this resort, with kids and babies slung on buggies and shoulders. Families are welcome, in case you're considering. When dining, tables are joined to accommodate the multitude, and fathers remain seated with the kids while the women gather up a glut of plates of food from the buffet. Families are vociferous and rambunctious, naturally, and with voices having to be heard over the loud musica, you imagine what that’s like. Next door is the adult-only resort. Just saying. I confide that nabobs get nasty when not served their nespresso or beer within their tolerable time limit. This time a German visitor made a strident scene and the manager came to his table and asked his room number; I sure hope he was not rewarded for such behaviour. This German characteristic was confirmed by one of the Dominican staff. So why them? It's cultural. Some nationalities are just not as patient and easy-going as others, even on vaca... As mentioned, there's a lot to do, if you’re up to it, and the animation team leads with exercises, games, lessons in windsurfing, dancing and Spanish, and entertainment. There's always one guy on the animation team who is the “complete sandwich”; this guy here is Martin. In this role you must have stamina, skill and subtlety to achieve customer satisfaction. Give me 5! (smack my palm). At a right-on-the-beach resort, all is exposed. I mean bodies... the naked gamut... hair, guts, chests, tattoos. Oh Dios Mio! so much skin is inked, men and women, you never imagined clothed in the office. The tattooed person exposes a staggering billboard of his and her loves, beliefs and history. (I don’t blame the resort for this.) You will not escape this review without an admonition regarding waste and environment. As a tourist, it's our new responsibility to keep our beach footprint to minimum. Do not discard garbage inappropriately; go beyond to pick up other people's garbage. Don't waste food on your plate as you see others doing. Keep your beach towels for another day. Spend locally for souvenirs and services. Collect gifts of needed items from home to give to poor locals: children’s clothes, otc meds, baseball gloves. Escape the resort and find playgounds or streets where you can give stuff away. Excursions are great for exploring, and there’s lot of choice, including exotic downtown Puerto Plata and a ride up the teleferico. This first cable car of the Caribbean will whisk you up to the Pico Isabel de Torres, at 800 meters the second highest point in DR. At the peak is an arm stretched statue of Jesus similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy pleasant hiking trails amidst botanical gardens, a lake replete with fish, caves and a model Dominican home. Purchase an excursion from your official tour agent, or much cheaper from an independent agent on the beach or at the mall; many to choose. We bought 2 interesting excursions from Antonio (anthonyinfotours.com). The second excursion was the Safari and Waterfalls (www.27charcos.com). The safari takes you deep into the interior of Hispaniola on the northern cordillera to pass by country towns and plantations to the 27 Waterfalls of Rio Damajagua (www.27charcos.com), the best adventure tourism site in the Dominican Republic! It’s a fairly strenuous outing, so be prepared to hike, jump and slide in a serious stream. Please accept my comments with a wink and a pinch of salt; the chef at this resort certainly added a pinch. Also, don’t search my review for my comment on the check-in process; not an important issue for me. I stated at the start we had a successful vacation here. The hotel was clean, although bed and balcony were small. The food was great. Many activities not available. The vendors on the beach are annoying bugging all the time. I really liked the place for the price overall minus the vendors.

I thought the hotel and the people working there were great a little more propinas from the tourist would have been better but hey I was there to take their place the pool the rooms and the food was spectacular I would recommend this hotel for family's and singles don't forget to visit the city for the car cable it's all love and family there don't listen to take news see you soon 're amo republic Dominicana

Terry and I checked into Grand Paradise on Dec 2 2019 and began to settle into a very nice room. Ground floor as we have some mobility issues. Room was very nice clean and was perfect location to everything. I went to get a couple of beverages and on my way to the table I popped into the grill. I use a cane and used the ramp. After checking it out I proceed to the table using the other enter/exit there and thinking it was a ramp imagine my surprise when I found out it was a step I went flying dropped the drinks and the cane and landed on knees. This was not marked with any caution signage Other areas are clearly marked. SO BE VERY CAREFUL THERE. The remainder of our stay was amazing the food was good as were the beverages. The staff are so nice. Ocean is so warm,loved our 11 days.

I stayed here the end of November with my husband for 10 days . The hotel was good and staff were very friendly an accommodating. Nice little swim up bar and a nice variety of activities to do. Only thing missing was a beach volleyball net lol but other then that it was great ... I would go back

Hotel is only approximately 20 minutes from the airport . The grounds are kept perfectly pool also kept clean. Staff are very friendly. Food was average could always find something to eat but a small selection,always had pasta and soup as a stand by. The animation team are just ok dont go out of their way to engage guests My only complaint would be the lack of hot water most days one day was non existent, would also be convenient to have a coffee maker in room . House keepers do a fantastic job well at least mine did

When we first arrived we were offered a trial day at another resort from the airport, while the other resort definitely had a lot going for it, the atmosphere at Grand Paradise was much more relaxing we found. The staff was incredibly helpful and entertaining and you could tell they really put their heart into everything they did.

The service this year was terrible front desk is sickning no hot water 3 days after 10 plus staying ther treated like crap!ive recommended many to stay ther I’m done with that I go ther because of people I’ve met not because they give a shit they don’t everyone passes the complaint even air transit rep I used to get a bottle of rum for returning ther after one and a half weeks of my complaining I got a fruit tray day old no rum go figure I’d need a note book to tell it all,ther was only two trying hard people at the desk guy with braces and women that works with him as for Francis he’s doing a shitty job this year

I found it slightly run down although the staff were great Pool was not always clean Ended up with food poisoning It was difficult to find room at first . The signage was not clear enough. It was my first time in the Dominican I don't think I would visit there again

Everything was good except for night entertainment , there was no entertainment and mostly we were bored at night . Other than night entertainment everything else was amazing , the staff were friendly , rooms were clean, food was good too.

Pros: Good food, large beach, lots of bars to choose from, everything on the resort is close to your room and is accessible for people with disabilities Cons: 4th floor rooms don’t have balconies, many have ants, hot water is limited in busy times like at the end of the day or when the resort is at capacity, many things cost extra like a room with a balcony, a room with ocean view, being able to lay on the beach on the non windy side of the resort as this is reserved for the premium club upgrade vacationers and even if there are 100 empty loungers security will kick you off that part of the beach unless you pay $25USD / day to upgrade to the premium level.

We were pleasantly surprised in our fourth floor spacious, clean suite, with ocean view. The food was first quality with varied dishes every day. Beaches were nice. However the eastern windward beach was inhabitable in the afternoons due to high winds and blowing sand. The western sheltered beach needs more chairs and shade. On leaving, courtesy suite confusion could be eliminated by having sign up list.

Nice small resort easy to find your way around, grounds kept very nice, ocean view from the restaurant lovely, found the restaurant very noisy more like a canteen, staff not very attentive we left without drinks at breakfast and evening meals for some reason we were constantly overlooked, maybe the way to get attention is to tip first, we were a party of 4 ladies and not pushy rather go get our own coffee after meal than make a fuss. We tried booking alacart, however they were fully booked for the next few nights and could not or would not book more than 2 nights ahead not impressed with customer service in this area. Maybe a good idea for this resort is to offer 2 alacart a week not 3 then everyone would get a fair chance, food was good always found something different I am a fussy eater. Bar staff fantastic very happy and friendly. Shows what you could see of them were good needs to have stage so people at back get a good view and enjoy to fullest. Rooms good although didnt get what requested even though followed up with email in the hopes of getting ground floor not a chance, beds really comfortable and nice clean. Pools kept nice clean, beach fabulous hard to get shade, lots chairs at pool and beach. On the whole nothing stands out, but nothing bad either. Would I recommend this resort yes, would I return maybe...

This Resort was great. The suite was good. The food was good. The service was good. The resort and beaches were very clean. There was a large variety if excursions to choose from. The Select Adult package is worth its benifits.

Resort was very clean. Beach was clean and you could walk a long way. Staff very friendly. Italian restaurant was terrible. Took 1/2 hr. just to get a glass of wine and 1 1/2 hrs. till we got our meal and it wasn’t that good. We went to the other a la carte, the grill, and it wasn’t that great either. Kabobs were very tough. The buffet was great. Usually get sick of the food after a couple of days, but didn’t this time. We had the club select and it was well worth it. Top shelf drinks, served on the beach, private bar, private pool, private chairs on the beach, personal service and snack bar. Servers were great and very friendly. There’s a mall just 5 walking minutes away. The down sides.....ocean was rough, so hard to go in, it’s an older resort so small things went wrong, hard to get hot water. Furniture certainly showing it’s age. We requested 2 rooms adjoining, with 2 double beds, and on the main floor as we had an 80 year old. We didn’t even come close, first room had a king bed, second floor, and the second room wasn’t adjoining, it was also second floor but it did have 2 double beds. They wouldn’t budge. Very disappointing. We’re not fussy women, but found a few things just not up to par. Would we go back, no.

This resort has the best beach area for hotels in this area. There are lots of cots either for sun or shade with a beautiful view of the ocean. The grounds, facilities,and gardens are kept clean and spotless. The buffet restaurant has good food with lots of choices. Supersaver room (#1648) was old but large with no balcony. The hot water was lukewarm after running for a long time.The air conditioner was noisy and did not get the room that cold. Entertainment was not that good and was too late in the evening. I would suggest 8:30 pm as a better time.

The grounds. and hotel were very nice. Excellent staff. Good variety of food.The Italian and Eden restaurants required reservations and were very acceptable with great wait staff-very accommodating. I would go back there.

Hotel was great! Food was great! Weather was great!! Company was great!! I would definitely recommend this resort for a comfy stay with great friendly staff! Lots of activities available if you want to do them.. a few steps to the ocean.. great clean sand....

Adults only area was great, your own pool, your own beach, your own bar and restaurant. The service was great with friendly staff. Rooms were always taken care of, always had enough towels. Great place to relax and enjoy the weather.

This resort is very tranquil. Our upgrade to the Select Club made our trip more memorable. The location of our clean and adequate room to the pool and ocean was very convenient. The selection of buffet items was very plentiful and selective. The drinks were well prepared and the beach towel availability with no issue was a bonus. The beach chairs and a wide selection of umbrellas was also a perk. The lack of a la cartes restaurants was not an issue as the Select club meal and drink variations made up for it. The friendly staff and well kept grounds was also nice. The close proximity to the airport was very convenient.

Hotel is very clean, spacious,excellent very from patio. We up graded to Select Flex, very happy we made that decision to up grade. We had our own pool, own bar, v.i.p. check in and the beach was own the properly next to the bar. Nice Location Short distance from the airport 15 to 20 minutes bus ride. Food was 7 out of 10 Staff very friendly and at your service. Security staff was interested in watching beach lounge chairs inside of monoriting daily operations.

The hotel rooms were very specious and clean the bathroom was Very big and place to put your stuff . My room was a loft which it even more extraordinary .it was like really different for Me and my family. The dining was well kept at all time. The food was delicious and there was a variety. The grounds was much better looking in person than the picture on the internet clean up to date and decorated the best was valentines. There was entertainment every night for everyone.a great place to experience .

We stayed at grand paradise last week with two couples . We had a great week . This was my third time staying in playa dorada complex. My favourite part was the location and size of the beachfront where I spent most of my time . Hubby preferred the pool as he likes staying out of the sun . The pool was very cold and half of it (where swim up bar is) shaded . I didn’t like that but hubby didn’t mind . Food was good . Service was good . Staff weren’t as overly friendly as I am used to at most resorts ... they all just seemed kind of in their own world and not smiling much of the time (minus the entertainment staff). Room was good we had supersaver room so it was above fourth floor - lots of stairs , and no balcony which we didn’t know when we booked . But the window above our bed overlooked the ocean so if we stood on our bed we had a nice view lol. Shows were good and went til 11. After that there was a disco for those that wanted . Drinks and food aren’t served after 1 am so my husband often went off resort and paid for drinks at the local pub in the complex - a later bar in the resort would have been better. Overall we wanted a nice getaway to relax and unwind and that’s what we did ! This was my 6th all inclusive and definately not my favourite resort but we always have fun! The beach was large and close to everything so that I loved !

We arrived January 30, heat and sun every day. The beach was amazing great for walking. The hotel is clean and bright we stayed in the cheaper rooms. I would suggest that if stairs are an issue not to book these rooms. There is no elevator. Food was the best I have had in the Domincan,lots to choose from , buffet was different every day. The restaurants were okay ambiance was good service was great. Check in/out was quick . The whole experience was more then I was expecting. I would go back to this resort.

We enjoyed our stay at Grand Paradise. The beach was great & snorkelling. Could have used more shade on beach. Also nightly activities need drastic improvement. Staff were amazing. Food was fantastic.

My wife Vicki and I stayed at the Grand Paradise DR from January 14, 2018 thru January 25th, 2019. I always read and utilize the Trip Advisor reviews and had a couple of minor concerns but I wanted to return to DR North Shore/ Puerto Plata with my wife to celebrate our first visit there 31 years previous. Our first trip together. We upgraded to an Ocean Front Suite which was quite nice. We are frequent travellers with a diverse experience base so I am providing a fair objective review. I think this resort is a 4 star. Please feeI free to contact me if you have any questions. 1) Food and bars are quite good. Only two a la carte, one snack bar and one primary buffet but the food was very good and way above my expectations. I was particularly pleased with the service we received at all the dining facilities and bars. We dined at the a la cartes for dinner 7 of 11 nights and really enjoyed the food and excellent service we received. Top Notch. The buffet served an extensive offering at lunch and dinner. Always offered some chicken/ beef/ pork/ fish that was amazing, flavourable, suited our taste. Obviously, some dishes we did not enjoy as much but got to try a variety of food we might not otherwise get to sample. Keep in mind different clientelle from around the world have different pallets so they are not only serving food to cater to North American pallets. We had very good service in all of the restaurants. We received excellent service and drinks at all the bars. We visited every bar and restaurant at the resort and we have no complaints. Good service, alcohol, variety of specialty drinks etc... We got to know some of the bar tenders all toooo well but made some friends and shared some laughs. Should add another a la carte or two. A beach BBQ one night a week would be a cool addition. 2) Rooms are nice and grounds are clean, well maintained and beautiful. The beds in our room were excellent, The air conditioner worked very well and quiet. The cleaning service was consistent and very good. 3) All buildings were in good condition and clean. Always staff around cleaning and picking up after the clientele. Front desk staff always helpful super quick and easy check in and check out. Hassle free. The main pool was always tooooo cool. Very few people were using the main pool. Disappointing! 4) Entertainment could use considerable work. The entertainment at the disco and bars was minimal and very low budget and lacking in imagination. They should imitate what many resorts do and present some variety with musical imitators, dance extravaganzas etc.. This could and should be easily fixed. 6) a)Golf course is a great value. Tough enough course and was in very good condition when I played a round. Mostly forgiving and can be played to over 7,000 yds. if you want. Greens were quite good. Rental equipment was moderate but only $20. b) Disco was weak. c) Unfortunately, Casino is closed but we knew that at booking so can not whine. d) Location was good you could quite easily walk in to Puerto Plata or take a 25 pesos "gwaugway", bus or taxi. 7) The people of the Dominican Republic are (bonita) beautiful. Quite friendly and good service.....but please remember you are in their country you have to make an effort as well. We try to speak Spanish as much as we can and the effort is always appreciated. We are not very good at espanol .... but we try.....LOL We went off resort and visited Centro Puerto Plata, local shopping, local market and the forteze San Felipe de Puerto Plata 1577. Unfortunately, everywhere we went the local people were in full press hustle mode. This was quite disappointing and too overly aggresive. Even when you were polite and indicated "NO GRACIOUS" vendors/ hustlers would not relent. 8) The stretch of beach at the Grand Paradise is spectacular. You can snorkel right off the beach in front of the resort. You can view the reef and fish in the ocean and not even over your head. In summary, I think this is a reasonable 4 star resort due to the high quality of the dining/ food and service. I will provide a slightly more detailed review on Trip Advisor. I prefer the south shore of the DR. A mi nuevo Republica Dominicana amigos and amigas..........mucho gracious.......Roberto

This is a 3 star hotel, we have been several times to the DR and this hotel is at the bottom of our list. The service at breakfast was not very good. For example if we asked for coffee the waiter made you feel like you were inconveniencing them. If you like peanut butter bring your own. The selection at lunch and dinner at the buffet was limited. The two a la Carey restaurants were good but you could only request one appetizer and one main course. As for the shows at night, there weren’t any. So basically not much happening after dinner. As for the rooms, the superior garden view was small but clean. Had a nice balcony. There was a fridge in the room but only two bottles of pop and a bottle of water was added. When we asked about beer the maid said they did not put any in the fridge The beach was good with plenty of chairs and space. Overall not a bad place but I would not recommend because of the lack of service.

the resort needs many small updates-paint,roof repairs,rotted gutters replaced are just a few. the rooms also need work. the shower drains worked but very slowly so you are standing in dirty water as you shower.the water pressure is very low as is the shower head.it is about 4 and a half feet above the tub floor so so cant stand under it. the food is good and usually abundant.the grounds itself are very beautiful.full of trees,flowers,hedges.very pretty.our biggest complaint would be that the staff do not understand english.i know i am in their country but they have no idea how to communicate.even to order a drink on their drink list they do not understand.with this lack of communication brings a disconnect between staff and guests that make staff seem unhappy or even miserable.simply put,the staff here did not seem friendly or welcoming.only 3 of the staff were pleasant during out 7 night stay.we got a great price for the week so i feel i got my moneys worth but i will not return there.i like to enjoy my vacation no matter what price i pay and the staff here really put a damper on the mood. just a side note-i have stayed in mexico a lot and have to say they always make us feel welcome and help us enjoy our stay-that said- we tip way more in mexico than we did here-we feel guilty about this but a tip is earned and not a given no matter what country you are in

We returned to Grand Paradise after several years of trying new places. It was nice to still see some familiar faces. It was also nice to see that they seem to be continuing to renovate and upkeep the resort. Yes it is an older resort but the rooms and the grounds are so well kept and very clean. The staff there is top notch. From the staff at the front counter, the wait staff, the bartenders (so nice to see you again Hugo), the maids and the entertainment staff.....all very professional and very pleasant. My only criticism might be the nightly entertainment....the staff gave it a good try but I felt it used to be better several years ago. Also, with so many people having dietary restrictions nowadays, it would have been nice to see some allergy/gluten free/vegan labelling on the buffet. That being said, it was a wonderful relaxing vacation and it was just what we were needing.

I found the resort to be awesome. There was a lot of positive energy. The staff were very accommodating and happy. We had requested an ocean view-to our surprise were given a suite with a beautiful view. I plan on returning in April 2019 and would definitely need to book the same room1412. Negative- No lifeguard-Are your staff able to perform CPR - More American money at front desk for tips (Switch a 20 American for 20 1 dollar bills.) - Occasional bug Patricia Lopez

Great resort. Our suite by the Ocean was the size of an apartment. All of the staff and entertainment people were very nice and always helpful. The beach was beautiful. Had lots of fun playing in the waves on our inner tubes. The food was top notch in both the buffet restaurant and the Italian restaurant. Did not visit any other restaurant. There is a shopping plaza on the same compound as the resort with a movie theatre and lots of different shops.

Checked in right away. Upgraded to a suite which was three feet away from beach. Only 1 bed though. Grounds were beautiful and nicely kept. Hotel staff very friendly. Rooms could use brighter lights especially in bathroom . Also full curtains in living room. Food was good, but salad bar needs to have more salads! All in all a great week. Would definitely go back. 30 degrees is much better than snow.

JUST CAME BACK DEC 3RD AFTER ONE WEEK. Did not meet room requirements, had to change rooms 2 times finally got reasonable room after arguing at Reception for 2 hours. Still did not get what we paid for Superior Gardenview Room not on ground floor, the first room we looked at the balcony looked onto a Tennis Court, this was not Superior Room, the second room was on ground floor looking onto a BAR with tables and chairs, not appealing, JOANNE at Reception did little to cooperate to help us just said Travel Agent did not give proper instructions TOTALLY WRONG, I was there in travel office when form submitted. Joanne said what do we want, we said what we paid for, she said no rooms available Resort full WRONG, the resort was 50% full after being there a couple of days. The Bellman heard the conversation and said he knew of empty rooms available which we took but still not SUPERIOR in our opinion, Joanne should have know this (they have computers) just being a difficult person should not be in that job. Wanted to speak with Manager about accommodations, would not come out to speak with us, totally unprofessional, rude and disrespectful of paying Guest just was hiding in his/her office, BED BUG BITES mattress too old and standard of cleanliness not there. Found out later other Guest complained too and mattress was changed and room fumigated. BEWARE YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR WIFI VERY EXPENSIVE $9.00 USA A DAY AND ONLY AVAILABLE AT POOL. SAFE COST $4.50 USA A DAY, OLD STYLE WITH KEY . ONLY give you 1 pass card to get into your room Ridiculous!! No umbrellas at Beach only in VIP SECTION. NO extra security lock on room door had maid walk into room when sleeping . General Staff at eating areas , bar etc always helpful and smiling. Grounds well maintained. Pool large and clean. Lots of new chairs around pool. Food very good ,but small buffet. Beach nice sandy and clean but little shade other than some trees, no umbrella's. Unless the OWNERS give management skills to certain staff definitely would not go back and upgrade the mattresses.

This hotel is a 3.5 star and lives up to its rating. The beaches are beautiful and well maintained. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The lack of choices in food was my most unpleasant experience. We also upgraded to select and the resort was not full and would not change our room to the vip side. My mother and I shared a bed( not a big deal) but I asked for 2 double beds. Also a 3rd floor was not convenient to walk up with someone who has mobility issues.

The resort was breath taking. I loved every moment there. I didn’t want to leave. The staff was friendly. The food was very delicious. We arrived past dinner time but the hotel had some food waiting for us. The entertainment could have been more entertaining but other than that. Perfect.

Paid for a Superior Garden View room but wasn't able to get this room when checking in at the reception desk. The tours offered via Air Transat at this hotel was a rip off as well. Food was mediocre, with lots of repeat dishes. The Italian restaurant was awful, serving what tasted like canned soup and same items from the buffet; fish and chicken dishes were overcooked and bland and the wine offered was "cheap" resort wine that had a spoiled fruit aftertaste. There was a section of the menu that seemed to offer better dishes at very steep prices; don't waste your time.

Everything about this place was beautiful! The grounds were meticulously kept, buildings a painted beautiful pastel colours and the pool (we upgraded to the Select) was perfect!! The service was warm and friendly and the food was delicious!!!

The grand paradise is the best resort I have ever been to, the place was spotless and the facilities were the best yet.the select option was remarkable with gourmet food and drinks,the staff were very friendly.the pool was the cleanest I have ever seen and plenty of chairs and towels every day.the flight both down and back was not good as the delays were horrific,about 9 hours down and 4 hours return due to technical problemss.this needs your immediate attention.i would rate this resort as the best resort I have ever been to.

The Grand Paradise, Plya Dorada lived up to my expectations as always. Check in was quick and easy, the staff were very friendly and helpful, great selection of food and drinks. I hope to return In January 2019 for I believe my 19th visit. Patricia Jones

We loved our stay. The food was fantastic, the views were breathtaking and the service was super. We had a room facing the pool with a huge balcony. I won a trip to this hotel so it was not my choice but, I am so glad we stayed here. The front desk staff were very helpful and efficient. Snorkelling was great, saw a a lot of fish. My only complaint would be the room key. I had to get it re activated numerous times because it went near my cell or my husbands wallet with a magnet.

Just back from 11 days at Grand Paradise Resort, Puerto Plata. This resort is excellent. The property is well maintained with lots of greenery and beautiful beach, though the beach needs some shade!! Lots of good food with many varieties. Thumbs up for the desert buffet. The office staff are all friendly, waiters and bar workers are all excellent.

We had a relaxing enjoyable holiday at the Grand Paradise Hotel. The location is just stunning with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains from the beach and even the dining room. We were well looked after from arrival until departure. The staff in the dining room were exceptional, The names of Santa, Andy, Wilfry, and Carlos come to mind. Our room was well looked after by Brigeda The activity team did a great job every day. I must say that I would like to commend the gardeners on the beautiful well kept gardens around the resort. Thanks again for a special holiday at your resort.

Entertainment was fantastic very interactive with guests from morning to night they never stopped had us in stitches can't say enough about them "Bravo" Majority of guests Canadian Felt safe had to switch rooms due to no elevator-desk staff very accommodating Food was excellent

To start, I want to thank Heather from Trip Central for going above and beyond to make my boyfriend and my 4 year anniversary amazing! She answered all of our questions in a timely manner, held the line for me as I was at work while booking, and wished us a happy anniversary! The hotel was REALLY clean, the staff was friendly, entertainment staff treated us like family, ( thank you kelvin, Roberto, black panther, Tracy and yancarlos). The food was amazing, I can’t get over how fresh the food was every day! The cooks were always rotating the trays to ensure you had fresh food all the time. The beach was clean and the chairs were comfy. The rooms were always clesned each day in a very timely manner, the beds were so comfy and the pool was always fun and the games that were played each day always changed! I would really reccomend this resort if you want cute and cozy! We both made new friends that we will keep in contact with forever, memories from this resort will definitely last a lifetime! The hotel is extremely clean and well maintained - close to airport. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was small, but don't spend much time there, so perfect. Not much gluten free food, however lots of rice. Salads were delicious with lots of variety. The buffet offered some amazing food for every taste bud. Bread and desserts made fresh daily. Great pizza bar. The only recommendation would be to list the ingredients on some dishes as dairy is a problem for me. Wifi is expensive! There is a great shopping centre across the street with pharmacy, liquor store, souvenirs, etc.

We booked a standard room with a balcony. The room was clean and they supplied us everyday with bottled water. We like this hotel because of the location of the buffet restaurant and the snack bar/ ala carte eating by the ocean. We found the food very good in the buffet and ok in the 2 ala carte with the Italian being our favorite. We found all staff very good. The internet is too expensive. 9US a day or 38US a week.We look forward in returning again.

The food is always amazing on all levels, the only thing I can't stand is the ENTERTAINMENT!!!! They need to get new people for this program they are very unprofessional and they continue to speak Spanish and not everyone understands!!!! OMG do not get the Room 1014 the one bed closest to the washroom is haunted and they gave us a room with a handicap bathroom??? We tried to change and when we went back they said they have no other rooms available and they did not switch our room at all the front desk people should know how to speak English by now and they were not very helpful at all I relied on the AirTransat Ramon and Cassandra they were the BEST....

The restaurant on the beach with beautiful views. Small resort was very social.The staff very accommodating. Rooms are basic and dated. No elevators so if you have super saver rooms you will be taking luggage up 4 flights of stairs. Also no balconys for super saver rooms.

Overall, the resort was okay. The resort does not cater to anyone with a disability. I have a minor physical issue and found it very difficult to get in and out of the pool. The steps into the pool were not very standard steps. Also, the tile throughout the resort was extremely slippery when wet and after 3 days of rain, I was constantly watching my steps to stop from falling on the floors. The floors in the restaurant were extremely difficult to walk on. Plus to all this was our room was satisfactory and the maid service was very good. I have to mention that I did not appreciate arriving to the resort and having to wait for a room till after 6pm. (we arrived around 1pm). The checkout time was 3pm for the rooms and this does not seem to allow for the rooms to be ready for the next group. I have been to resorts that makes you leave at 11 and if you have a late flight, they will allow you to leave your bags with the head porter until you are ready to leave. You had to pay for the WIFI and it was limited to certain locations throughout the resort. Had to pay for the safe in the room. We have been to many of the Caribbean islands, many trips to Mexico and Central and South America and found the cleanliness at this resort was not optimum. Unfortunately, we both got sick. Our first encounter of sickness in 25+ years of travelling through the world. The food was acceptable but we did notice that a wait staff cough into his hand and continue to handle the clean dishes.

I have been staying at this resort for many many years and have seen many changes during that time. The resort looks amazing. The staff are friendly and very good at what they do. The food is plentiful and very good. The rooms are very clean. We were made very welcome and I see no reason to stay anywhere else in the future.

I totally impressed with this resort. The beach was awesome...I could walk a long ways either way and felt totally safe. There were always plenty of chairs on the beach and you never had to get up early in the morning to claim one. I loved that part. You could pull the chairs to where ever you wanted ...closer or farther from the ocean. The service at the bar and buffet was awesome.The room was so cool...it was like a little condo suite up in the loft...I loved it!!! The cleaning room service was impeccable. The only down fall was 2 days of rain...but that was out of everyone's hands...the remainder days were sunny and very warm. It was an awesome experience!!

We went to the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada for a week on December 30th. We were so lucky to be there on New Year's and experience an incredible display of fireworks on the beach to bring in the new year - it was absolutely spectacular! We absolutely loved the beach where we spent most of the time and we loved the restaurant as it was directly on the beach so we could enjoy the view for every meal. It was like having an 'a la carte' experience every night. The food was excellent! We were happy with our room as well but had to request a hair dryer and fridge as they were both missing when we arrived. The areas of improvement would most definitely be the front desk. They so need to improve their customer service (everyone was saying the same thing). Our air transat flight was delayed by 6 hours and we arrived at the hotel at 4:00 a.m. (instead of 9:30 p.m. the previous night) and waited 45 minutes to be served - not sure why we couldn't have just been given our room key as we already missed an evening and were extremely tired. Internet wasn't provided. We paid internet for the first day but it got disconnected and we complained but to no avail-the internet person never seemed to be available. We gave up purchasing it after that and avoided the front desk at all costs as they were not easy to deal with and certainly not friendly! Other than the fireworks, the entertainment could definitely be improved. We met lovely people so we made our own entertainment. All in all, we would recommend this place as a definite 3 star but it wouldn't take much to rate it higher if the front desk were friendlier and entertainment improved as this place is in such a picturesque location! We would definitely go back to Puerto Plata!

Staff was very friendly! Everyone was smiling and ready to answer questions or help if needed. Food wasnt the best for me being a vegetarian.. lots of meats and fish. Veggies were all cooked in butter (which i dont eat). Few cold salad options. desserts were all a hit with my crew! First impression of rooms were good but when you look closely, there were some items that needed to be fixed. - towel bar was hanging, caulking etc. Pools were a bit cold and very sandy from people coming from the beach. Beach was great. No seaweed, plenty of chairs, clean sand. Huge plus- No bugs and the endless supply of towels I wouldnt stay here again but if youre looking for a deal, this is one of the best resorts ive been too on a budget.

The Service is excellent, grounds/rooms are clean. Everything is so close to the resort for example the beach is just a few steps away and the airport is about 20 to 30 mins on the bus. There is a mini mall that is a 8 mins walk from the resort. Some of the meals were bland but overall the food was okay. Disco needs to cater more to 30+ more in terms of choice of music. It just seemed to gear towards the under 20 crowd.

this has been one of the best resorts l have stayed at.The staff were amazing,the food was one of the best l have tasted there were so many different dishes to choose from.Rooms where so clean and beautiful.Had the superior ocean view breathe taking.Will deffenetly stay there again.Pricewas reasonable.Enjoyed the pool staff so many activities.On a scale from 1 to 10 deffinetly a 8.Plan on going back in October

the trip started great with the flight and easy airport pickup, the staff was friendly and supportive in every way, the food was much better than i expected, the hotel grounds was easy to navigate and was very clean the only things i was disappointed with was had to pay for safe in the room, $4 a day $28 us funds a week no coffee maker in room and rooms were small. The beach was nice with lots of water sports the pool was big and clean and the bar drinks were plentyful

Just back from a week's vacation at this resort. Stayed from April 15-22/17. Great spot. Although we had rain most of the week, we were still able to find something to do. There was entertainment each night. The shows were awesome. The staff was extremely friendly and always happy, even on the rainy days. Our maid was amazing. Would definitely go back again.

I really liked the resort, I liked the buffet restaurant and how it overlooked the beautiful ocean. I liked the room when the front desk finally gave us the room that we paid for and ordered opposed to putting us on the 4th floor which I requested ground or second floor because of my disability. Then they put us in a kingsize small room that was for single occupant and I had to share a bed with my daughter. After yelling at the front desk and involving both the Air Transat reps, they finally got our room correct. That was over 2 days later. Hence, they kept saying come back in 10 minutes and then they would say at the front desk to come back 10 minutes. That was beyond frustrating and very unprofessional of the front desk. On the positive, the beach was nice and the ocean and the food was good. I would definitely go back to this resort if they got our room correct. The staff at the restaurant and bars were really great.

Hotel was kept clean all around food was good ppl were very friendly.. great place all around..even the toilets in common areas were kept very clean.. no problems here..great place for the value......

The resort has been well maintained, the rooms were fine, food was wonderful and plentiful. The bar staff, table waiters and entertainment team made our stay very enjoyable . We especially would like to recognize Hermie as our dinner waiter. He served 10 of us very well and keep the wine glass full at all times. Edgar at the pool bar was a ball of fun as well. Alonzo our beach vendor was also a great guy and a good salesman as well. We were pleased to have a visit with Nelson a beach vendor we met 15 years ago and he still remembered us as " My family". Weather while there could not be any better. We most likely will go back to Paradise beach " God Willing".

We took a recommendation from a travel agent at trip central and she told us to go here. It is close to the airport which is nice. The resort is amongst other resorts and is very secure (friendly security guards all over resort at all hours). We checked in at night with no issues and from that point entering the resort until the day we left the staff were great. The entertainment staff was....entertaining and the bartenders, servers, maids, etc. were all friendly and were never "hunting" for tips. We did tip after every meal and when we got drinks but you never felt pressured to do so. The beach location we thought was one of the best when we walked the beach. There were other resorts when we were walking that had not many people there. The location is also very nice and in somewhat of a cove so the water was more calm. Being in our mid twenties we wanted to meet some people but also not go to a resort with a bunch of 18 year olds. The report was a good mix of ages. The food was excellent in the buffet. The a la carte restaurants were also very good. There is an Italian one (more formal) and another one on the beach. We liked the one on the beach more but both were great. If I have to mention any cons it would be that a couple nights our shower did not have hot water...We probably could have moved rooms or brought it to a maintenance workers attention but it wasn't a huge deal. I would definitely recommend going to this resort and would go back myself. Cheers.

We stayed at this resort March 03-10 2017. The staff is great, check-in was easy and we got the room we requested, it was clean and they had a fruit platter for us in the room which we thought was a nice gesture. We had a third floor pool view with a balcony in building 20. The buffet was good and varied. The shows were good, beach was great. We do believe this resort has the best beach area of all the resorts there. The shopping centre is great and a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Although this resort is an older resort, the grounds are well-kept and very clean. There is no shortage of staff anywhere and you get great service at the buffet. Special shout out to Raphael in the bar,he always had a smile and a welcoming handshake for us every time we saw him. He does a great job! The Air transat reps were very helpful and went out of their way to help us with anything. Although we had bad weather for a few days, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada for 7 days in March. The resort facilities were great, the standard room we had a large bathroom and a good bed, TV, mini fridge and working air conditioning. The resort was clean and well kept and the staff were very friendly, always saying hello as they passed by. There was one main pool which was pretty big with a swim up bar. The activity crew were always around doing water aerobics or other games. There were 2 main bars, a disco that's open every night and the food in the main restaurant was always great. The quality of the food is much better than cuba and there was always a variety and fresh fruit and vegetables. There were 2 a la carte restaurants which were pretty good as well, one (Edens) which has a beach view. The beach itself was nice, and the water wasn't rough, however, there could have been more chairs. There were people selling souvenirs on the beach however they weren't pushy. The resort is in a nice beach area and you can walk quite far along the beach passed the other resorts. There is a little mall with a movie theatre, tourist shops and a few restaurants and bars within the resort complex - a 2 min walk. The resort is about 20 minutes or just under from the airport. The weather wasn't great at the time we went - It was overcast and rainy for 3 days. It rained one full day and there wasn't a whole lot to do. The crowd was mixed - quote a few elderly people, middle-aged and some young people (20-30). Not a party resort. Overall, it was a great experience :)

We have visited this resort in February with a large group of friends. 20 people in 7 rooms. Our biggest disappointment started right away. They have scattered us all over the hotel grounds with complete disregard to families. Children under 10 were placed in different buildings from their parents We all specifically asked for adjoining rooms, but to no avail. Nobody at the reception was willing to help out. Their response was that the hotel is completely full. The indifference the front staff showed was staggering . It was quite funny that when one of the rooms was missing a bed, instead of staff moving one more bed in there, the same unpleasant man at the front without hesitation just changed them into another room. We were told to go at the morning meeting to arrange differently with the guide from Air Transat. So if you are booking extra room for your children, make sure the travel agent takes care of it at the time of booking, because they will not help you here. The Air Transat rep started the morning meeting telling all of us that if we need changes regarding our room, to contact the reception staff. Unfortunately this has continued throughout our stay. Anything we have asked for the response was negative, "we don't have it", we can't do that, we ran out. ( just to clarify , we have asked for mustard and such) To find a helpful person was hard. The only exception was the animation staff. They were kind and willing all the time. This was a big surprise for us, we were used to traveling to Cuba with this same group for many years and the warm and kindness we were treated with was missing here. Food was great, a large variety was made at all meals in a tasty way. If you like coffee, than sorry to say but they can't make it here. At the pool bar they have a better machine, but they open later after 10:30 am. If Rolli happens to be there he will make coffe for you, even though sometimes they had 4-5 staff in there, they kept pointing at their watches that they are still closed. Their way out of helping you is pretending not to speak or understand english. All their alcoholic drinks come from premixed plastic jugs. You will not get a freshly mixed mohito. Beautiful beach, sand and water, we spent most of out days here. They never have enough beach-loungers and they don't have ANY umbrellas. You fry on the sun because there is no shade. Plenty at the VIP section, even empty ones, just not for your use. We had a great vacation, but this is a resort I would never return to. For a country where tourism brings in the revenue as in this case, staff needs to be trained and picked differently.

The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful and I the standard of cleanliness was among the best I have experienced in the Caribbean. The only drawback was the lack of elevators which I attempted to overcome by requesting a 2nd or 1st floor room. My request was not honoured at first but two moves later I found myself in a tiny first floor room. During the course of the holiday we ran into the following maintenance problems; A AC unit not working , B Telephone not working, C safety bar in shower missing, D bathtub would not drain, E bar fridge requir d defrosting. The maintenance staff responded wwqquaixccklys to all complaints and all problems (except the safety bar) were resolved in short order. Beth fid an excellent job and was very helpful for which we are grateful.

Not a very good experience checking in, seemed chaotic scramble of staff trying to assign rooms. We were given a suite on 4th floor add on which had one window in each room but you had to stand on your toes to see out! On complaining a few hours later,we were transferred to superior garden view room which we had purchased in our package but it was not in great shape, certainly not 4 star! Fortunately the quality of the food, beach and pool area was excellent which overall gave us a nice vacation!

We really enjoyed the resort, overall. The beach was nice, food was good, staff were attentive and friendly. However, our room had some issues. The door to the washroom didn't close, there is nowhere to put clothes away and our thermostat didn't work. Our room was either freezing or really hot. We had to get up multiple times in the night and manually turn the air conditioning on or off. We asked them to look at it and we were told it would be fixed tomorrow. Unfortunately, tomorrow never came.

Very disappointed with our suite. It was up on the fourth floor. I would call it attic not a suite. It had windows, but all you see out of windows was rusty roofs. When we went into the suite, toilet didn't flush, there was poop in it. No water in the washroom at all. They finally fixed it about 10:30pm. Water pressure was so bad that we only had sponge baths for seven days. No fridge in the room. We asked for one three days in the row, and each day they said "we will get you one", we finally gave up. There was a lot more, but what is the point, they didn't do anything about it. The resort was misrepresented, no mini golf, no bicycles, no workout room, etc. We booked three rooms, they all had problems, no air conditioner, no dressers. There is a lot more. We will not go back there. My husband and had room 1940, our sons with their families had room 2040 and 1145. This was suppose to be our family "happy"vacation, it turned out to be very disappointing.

This was my 1st trip to Puerto plata but it's was most amazing trip I had.. Everyone in this resort were very nice...I will go there again and again. I did had hard time that I couldn't understand them because I did not speak Spanish and I did meet some people who did some English..thank you for great..thank you

The hotel was very clean and the grounds were always clean and staff were excellent. The wait staff were excellent in all the restaurants. It was so easy to find your way around the resort and lots of lighting and no stairs. I loved it and hope to be able to go again.

We loved everything about this resort...the food was excellent, the rooms were great and always kept clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Best of all, very little insects, clean beaches, great entertainment and amazing excursions. We don't have one negative thing to say. We'd return here in a heartbeat and would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

We just returned from the Grand Paradise playa dorada in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic. This resort is very nice rooms great food fabulous pools clean and plenty of room. Staff terrific entertainment group and activity team terrific especially since we found out one of the young men was killed in a horrific accident when we weee there .And the rest of the team continued, but you knew it must have been very difficult for them all. Our hearts were with all of them all our representatives were great they answered all questions and assisted us if we needed help with anything.will return to this resort.Oh only complaint beach lounges outdated and looked old

The grounds were beautiful and clean. The only thing I could complain about is it's not at all like pictures on the web page. The staff was incredible and friendly, the food was great. I would go back!

We loved this resort! The resort is in a gated community of Playa Dorado (felt very safe). The beach is beautiful. We loved the open feeling of the buffet and Eden restaurants. A la carte restaurant Michaelangelo's was wonderful. The food is great at buffet as well. Our trip was well put together through Trip Central, they even shared hotel park and fly information from Toronto that was perfect. Hats off to Lawrence Solomon!

This was our 6 time to this resort. This was an Air Transat package. We arrived at the airport they had us on one bus to transport us to the hotel and then told us they had us on the wrong bus. So they took our luggage off and then put us on another bus . Then because the bus had mostly all the S-trip kids going to Grand Paradise[only one other couple] they told us we should get a taxi. I told them I was staying on the bus if this bus is going to Grand Paradise and that is what we did. We loved our ocean view room [ we paid an upgrade fee ]We had lobster one night at the buffet . It was very Good. We loved the tacos at the snack bar at lunch time. The ala carte were nice. It was nice to get served a meal. We had a problem on the beach one day in which a hotel guest took our towel off our chair and took our chair. I think they need more beach chair and more shade. It would be nice to have cabanas. It was a nice getaway and we look forward in returning again .

My partner and I recently stayed at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada for a week. We travelled with one other couple. We had the ocean front view rooms and they were great! Lovely view waking up to the beach every morning. Rooms were always kept nice and clean and staff were super friendly. The food was very good for buffet. Lots of different options each night. To be honest we enjoyed the buffet over the a la cart dinners. The beach was great! We always managed to get enough chairs and enjoy the beach the entire day. The only thing that was annoying were all the vendors who kept approaching asking us to purchase things. A polite no usually worked but it did become irritating having to repeat yourself over and over. We booked two excursions- atv and the waterfall excursion through Elvis. He was fantastic and very friendly so I definitely recommend booking any excursions through him. Overall we had a great trip and would recommend visiting.

The food was amazing. Service was ok could have been better. Rooms were always cleaned and restocked with pop and water. Pool was always busy have to get up early to reserve chairs especially if you want an umbrella. Overall the resort was excellent and it's only a short 15-20 minute drive from the airport. Would definitely go back and would recommend this resort to individuals who like smaller resorts.

This is the worst vacation that I have ever had. Have been to Puerto Plata 6 times, and never experienced anything like this before. From the flight delays, to the hotel, to the service, the rooms, and the overall resort, it was a disaster.

Great resort, great food with plenty of variety for everyone ,friendly staff ,towards the end of the week they were different but overall nive people. I didnt like that you had to rent yourvsafe for $28. I also didnt like that one day i didnt put up my clean room sign and they went in abd cleaned it anyways . The public washrooms could have been a little cleaner ,the smell was disgusting but overall great experience!

beautiful beach ... great ocean to swim in ... grounds kept immaculate... food very tasty....staff very accommodating and the Entertainment staff was one of the very best that we have ever seen... Their energy overwhelmed us

The hotel is in need of a little TLC as do many of the hotels, they have been around for quite a few years and you have to remember this. The hotel staff are very friendly, the food was great, one of the best buffets we have had in the Dominican always hot, lots of it and a fair amount of variety. We enjoyed both the A-La-Carte Restaurants especially The Eden we ate there twice delicious. The beach is lovely I would have to say the best beach I have seen in Puerto Plata so far, you could take a long walk in both directions from the hotel. We were in a two bedroom loft which was huge. A lot of stairs and no balcony but we didn't mind we were hardly in our room at all. We were in a very quiet building too which was nice. If you can get a good price on this hotel you will be pleasantly surprised. We would definitely go back.

We had booked two garden view rooms and asked for connecting rooms for our family of five. On arrival, our rooms were not close to each other so front desk staff gave us what they called an apartment - king size bed in a separate bedroom and a queen or double in the sitting area and the sofa made up into a bed. Room was great, technically probably an ocean view but not a great view which was fine with us. No charge for the upgrade. Would not have wanted a room around the pool and disco - would be very loud. Beach is quite nice but need to get there early to get beach chairs. I would say it was the best of the beaches at Playa Dorada. Surf was little rough our first day or two and the last couple of days but was very calm during the middle of our stay. Had perfect hot, sunny weather for first five days but wet for the last couple. Lots of beach vendors and people pushing excursions as others have mentioned. We found the food good. Did not eat at the alacarte restaurants but heard some good comments about them. There was some repetition at the buffet but always something different too. Service at the buffet was either really good or nonexistent. Sometimes hard to find a table, other times tables were available but couldn't get someone to bring cutlery. Snack bar was awesome. We hung out at the beach every day. Didn't see the entertainment guys there much so cant comment on them. I think they did most of their activities by the pool. Evening shows that we saw were OK, not great. 2 evenings were rained out. Not much to do in the evening other than the show which doesn't start until 9:30ish and not much to do on rainy days. WiFi way overpriced at the resort but is available at the nearby mall. We enjoyed happy hour at Barrels to Bottles liquor store while the teenagers caught up with their buddies on social media. All in all, good value for what we paid

The resort is beautiful, the grounds are kept very clean and the staff is very friendly. The only problem we had was we had 3 days of rain which brought up a lot of seaweed on the beach - but eventhough the beach was cleaned daily the rain made the seaweed impossible to keep up with - but of course this was not the resorts fault.

Clean and well kept grounds.Dining was always good and hot food.Lots of drinks and friendly bartenders.Jose was a great help with our luggage.Near by shopping plaza and bars.Beach was clean .Pool was a little cool and swim up bar was not always open.

We had a Superior Ovean View which was just awesome!, food was great and liked the fact that there was food 24-7! Beach was clean & beautiful, staff was overly friendly & helpful. We are planning on going back in April.

i would defenitely be making Grand Paridise my stay again in May.The grounds where kept very clean,food amazing and so much to from.The public bathrooms where so clean and beautifuly kept clean.I was very much amazed at how clean they were.Every one was always so helpful in everyway posible.This will be my resort every stay

Clean. Good food. The Italian restaurant we visited was overbooked. We waited for nearly 2 hours before being served. Check in process was very slow. There are many vendors on the beach. The resort also tries hard to sell you upgrade to VIP. Something like time share.

First room assigned was a loft where AC did not work and was a bit of sewer odour; shower was broken repaired early next day. They allowed us to switch to standard room with poolside view. Nightly entertainment by main dining room near beachfront was a bit loud and went till after 11pm every night

This is a resort with great food and a beautiful beach. The kids club is very well run as well. Lots of vegetarian options everyday at the buffet and the a la carte Italian restaurant was outstanding.

I was at this resort the beginning of November. I went solo so my opinion may differ from couples or families. It was not too busy so for the most part fairly quiet. The food was fantastic. Plenty of choice and tasty. The servers were polite and the entertainment staff were happy go lucky and made me laugh everyday. When the local families started checking in for the weekend, it became crowded and noisy but entertaining at the same time. Nice to see local children and their parents having such a good time. One COMPLAINT: during the day on the beach you would be asked quite often to buy jewelry or clothes; have braids done or have a massage. Also to take tours or to talk about time share possibilities etc. For this reason I found it more pleasant to stay around the pool during the day and go to the beach after 5p.m. The water (ocean) was warmer than the pool and very relaxing.

Overall enjoyed this resort. The staff in general were outstanding and room spacious and clean. Reception services needs some work as it was difficult to exchange money and book a la carte. Recommend.

Staff was amazing... we were there in low season so there was plenty of staff to tend on your every need. Beware the time share people as they are also there for the hard sell... not even a free massage to entice you to listen to their pitch. Front desk staff were a little disappointing, never any cash to exchange of monies, and long wait to check in, 4 hours... other than that a good resort.. They say all inclusive but there are some premiums even with room upgrades, we were in an ocean view suite... 4 dollars a day for in room safe... also the First time I had seen an a la carte with a cash option for the good food......
